Even though this large home sits in the middle of a golf course in rural Brittany, there's plenty to keep guests occupied even if they're not keen followers of the sport.

Take the wonderful wellness space, for example. Surrounded by large windows that look out to the peaceful grounds, there's both a heated swimming pool and a Jacuzzi to recline in once you've done a length or two. If that sounds a little too sedate, there's a huge range of games, from foosball and ping-pong to a petanque court and an arcade machine on which you'll find over 1500 video games. We're not saying you'll be praying for rainy days, but they won't be the catastrophe they might be at other addresses.

At the same time, the huge garden offers lots of space and equipment for enjoying spells of sunny weather. You can embrace a French tradition on the petanque court, bounce about on the trampoline or do nothing more strenuous than read on the terrace – perhaps with dinner cooking away on the barbecue in the background.

We should also mention that the home – once a farmhouse in a former life – is a pleasing mix of rustic and contemporary aspects, with wooden ceiling beams and a few patches of exposed stonework sitting quite happily alongside stark white walls, bold artwork and a super-sleek minimalist kitchen.

When it comes to seeing a little more of this corner of France, there's a good selection of spots that are a short drive away. The seaside towns of Saint-Malo and Dinard are a quarter of an hour away by car for instance, while both Rennes and Mont Saint Michel take around forty minutes to reach.

A Playful Character

Perched cliffside above the beach of Saint-Énogat, this apartment offers idyllic sea views and makes the perfect setting for a restorative retreat on the Emerald Coast. 

From the outset, you’ll want to pause and admire the striking facade of this building – it evokes a wonderful sense of tradition and ushers you inside with a warm welcome. Head up one flight of stairs and you’ll find this apartment adds a contemporary touch to the rustic charm of its setting. From the light-filled living room styled in calming tones to the simple bedroom (with its own private balcony), every detail inspires a wonderful sense of relaxation. 

Enjoy quiet mornings with a coffee listening to the sound of the waves, sip refreshing drinks as the sunsets and prepare simple meals inspired by the fresh local produce – Saint-Énogat’s weekly market is just a short walk away. And when you’re refreshed and ready to explore, wander straight down to the beach or visit the beautiful coves and towns dotted along the coast – Saint-Malo is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away.

Maison Perle

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

Past, Present, Future

Once a home for horses, this former stable is perfectly placed for a visit to Rennes. Tucked nicely near Thabor Gardens, it allows you to be close to the city yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can enjoy some much-needed quiet time whenever you retreat back home. 
 
With nods to its history through exposed beams and brickwork, this recently renovated home has been beautifully modernised, while retaining its charm. The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms to choose from, both of which guarantee a blissful night’s sleep. A fairly neutral palette is broken up throughout the home with pops of colour, giving the whole space a calming, cosy vibe.

Our favourite part of this home is the terrace. Quite the sun trap during the day, it’s a peaceful place to retreat to as evening sets in. Grab yourself a bottle of fine French wine and settle down on the sofas with your loved ones. As night falls and a blanket of stars breaks out above, listen to the quiet chatter of your loved ones and feel yourself relax. This is where memories are made. 

Once Upon a Stable

A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep. 

Emerald Coast of Cancale

With captivating views of the twinkling waters of Erquy's port de pêche, this home provides a great base from which to begin your own seaside odyssey, exploring the myriad sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that make coastal France so uniquely beguiling. 

Tear open those windows and feel the sea air rush in and fill the surprisingly wide-open, uncluttered spaces of the apartment – we can't think of many better ways to start a day than with a few invigorating breaths of salty-sweet oceanic breeze. After a light brunch on the patio, Erquy and its surrounds are beckoning, its delights just waiting to be uncovered. 

Frequent some of the many local ice cream parlors, restaurants, or bars located just a stone's throw from the apartment for a taste of authentic Breton cuisine. Mosy to the nearest beach, just 5-minutes walk away. Or, for something a little more active, why not sign up for the well-regarded sailing school, surf classes, or hire a jet ski for an afternoon of wave-riding? Those with a penchant for golf are in luck too, with the 18-hole course at Pléneuf Val just 10-minutes away by car.

The Fisherman's Friend

A serene spot on the beachfront in Saint-Malo, this seaside escape invites guests to make ever-lasting memories in delightfully blissful conditions. Built in 1906, you'll be just metres away from the sandy shores of le Grande Plage. With direct beach access via the stairs in front of the villa, from here, you're encouraged to meditate, do yoga, or relax while taking in the stunning blue views with a cup of tea in hand. Inside the beach villa, classic and nautical designs present a home bursting with character. We love the antique furniture pieces which add traditional French charm with bags of elegance. 

Thanks to its on-point location, you can enjoy scenic beach walks, rollerblading or cycling on the seawall. There's also a surf school just 200 metres away, and if actively participating in watersports isn't your thing, the beach's kitesurfers, windsurfers or surfers will guarantee an excellent show. Meanwhile, a mini-market and the many nearby restaurants offer an endless opportunity to sample the local Brittany delicacies and fresh seafood in Saint-Malo. 



Staring out to Sea 

There's something special about waking up to a view each morning, and at this bright and cheerful apartment in Saint-Malo you'll have just that. Whether you're waking up from your restful slumbers in the comfortable bedrooms and cradling a cup of coffee on the balcony, enjoying breakfast in the light-filled dining area, or catching up with friends in the stylish living space, views of Solidor beach can be admired from every angle. 

Throw open the windows, kick back on the velvet sofa and relax with the sea breeze washing over you, as you map out the day ahead. We love the palm-themed artwork and rattan details that add to the cool and calm feel around the home. 

When it's time to head out, grab your seaside essentials and take the short walk to the sandy beach right on your doorstep for a day of sunbathing and swimming. And if you're in town for sightseeing, you can reach the historic centre of Intra-Muros in fifteen minutes on foot along the coast. There's also a fish market on the square of St Servan nearby and a small oyster market every Sunday on the Place Bouvet square. 

Sea Through You

Overlooking the bay of Cancale, soak up majestic sea views from every room of this home located just 800 metres away from Saussaye Beach. On a clear day, the views even stretch as far as the islands of Chausey and the iconic Mont St Michel. 

The perfect getaway for a family and those travelling with children, the home presents a large space area which frames the view like a piece of artwork at the centre of the room. Gaze out at the stillness of the sea from the window seat, and you might even wind up in a meditative state. You'll also find a cosy reading corner which invites you to select a book from the home library. 

Open up the French doors leading out onto the spectacular terrace area where the group can gather around the alfresco dining area for barbecues by the sea. When the weather is kind, what better than a spot of sunbathing on the loungers in a prime position of those glistening views? 

With a dormitory-style bedroom with six single beds, the children will enjoy sharing a room on one giant sleepover. Meanwhile, the garden shed equipped with games and bicycles will keep the whole family occupied for hours. 

After fun-filled days on the beach (you'll be just a few minutes away from the most beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast here), the home sauna awaits for some blissful moments of relaxation. Of course, even from the sauna – you won't miss a moment away from the stunning sea view. 

An ideal base for exploring Britanny and the likes of Mont St Michel, Port Mer Beach (900 metres away) and the beach of Le Verger La Pointe du Grouin – found a fifteen-minute walk away.

Whether you're making your morning coffee in the well-equipped kitchen and greeting the day out on the terrace, or you're sitting at the dining table to get some work finished remotely, you'll feel right at home in no time. In good weather here, you'll be able to see as far as the Chausey Islands – it's the perfect backdrop to good conversation, evening drinks or morning yoga.

Not only does this home allow you to comfortably enjoy the beauty of the Emerald Coast and the rolling waves at your doorstep, but you'll be close to a range of salubrious amenities like Les Thermes Marins de Saint Malo and Phytomer Spa, where you can spend your day receiving the pampering you deserve – after all, what else is a holiday for? Once you’ve experienced total tranquillity, you’ll be all set to explore the medieval town of Dinan, filled with art and history. Visit the feudal castle and take in the beautiful traditional architecture. Hikers will be able to take advantage of the walking trails atop the Point de la Varde cliffs with incredible views over the whole bay, and through the gorgeous Rance valley with its picturesque landscape punctuated by fishing villages and mills.

Upon the Rocks of Malouin

Sitting close to the point at which La Rance meets La Manche, this home puts guests in an excellent location for exploring the famed beach resort of Dinard.

However, it's fair to say that there's a lot more riding in this address's favour that the spot it occupies on the map. For a start, it's actually made up of two properties that have been joined up and consequently, there's a huge amount of space behind the front door – something only emphasised by the open layout and wealth of natural light from the large windows. Added to that, the design is sleek and contemporary throughout, especially the minimalist kitchen and bathrooms.

There are wonderful views of the coastline to be had out through the windows and you can enjoy these with a sea breeze on your face as you take up residence on the large terrace, which wraps around two sides of the home. As well as that, guests also get the run of a small garden where it's easy to find a shady spot.

When you want to see a little more of the town that has drawn in illustrious visitors for quite some time, there's a coastal path all of 20m from the path that will take you around the coastline and to the golden sands of Plage de l'Écluse. There are restaurants and shops aplenty in the centre of Dinard, about 1km away, while you also have the option of catching a ten-minute taxi-boat to Saint-Malo if you wish.

Maison Grâce

Situated just 10 metres from the beach and a short walk from the heart of Erquy, this straight-talking apartment is ideal for a small family or two couples. Inside, it’s calm and collected with vintage furnishings in the living space and a sleek kitchen with everything you need for putting together Breton-inspired dishes. Begin your mornings with a coffee on the quiet balcony before grabbing your seaside essentials and skipping down to the stretch of golden sand. 

Stroll into town for freshly caught scallops in a local restaurant then explore the Cap d’Erquy moors. Head home in the late afternoon to watch the sun set over the harbour with a glass of wine in hand. And when it’s time to get some rest, an early night is impossible to resist thanks to the supremely comfortable beds dressed in crisp, white linens.
