This lovely home is a real delight. It was recently renovated, and has been beautifully decorated – you can tell how much love has gone into this home. Hues of green and jade run throughout the decor, resulting in a soothing vibe. When you’re on holiday, you want to be able to relax in style, and that’s just what you can do here. 

The stunning monochrome kitchen is a great place to begin your day, whether you’re simply preparing coffee or whipping up a feast. Everything you might need has been considered here, so cooking is a pleasure rather than a chore. When everyone is seated around the dining table, you’ll see why this home is so popular with families and groups of friends – there’s plenty of room for everyone to gather together. 

If the sun is shining, you’ll want to be outside. Lie out on a sun lounger to top up your Vitamin D, or dive right into the heated swimming pool. The south-facing terrace is a wonderful spot, looking out over the lush gardens – we’d be tempted to fire up the barbecue for a dinner under the stars. We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.

We can easily see why Layers Upon Layers was chosen as one of the best homes for breaks in France in 2016 — it's typical French countryside home with oodles of charm and plenty of amenities that will help you make lifelong memories. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview.

The vibrant hues of cobalt and marigold create a playful atmosphere here – we love the light-filled living room with its layered rugs and plump velvet sofa where we imagine you’ll spend afternoons stretched out with your holiday read and a glass of Rosé d'Anjou. There’s a vivid kitchen for preparing dinners with the produce you picked up from Marché de Saint-Servan, and after a day perusing the promenade and touring Saint-Vincent Cathedral of Saint-Malo, you’ll look forward to a blissful night’s sleep in the soft and stylish bedrooms. 

Saint Malo’s pristine sand beaches are just a short stroll away – grab a flaky pastry from your local boulangerie before enjoying a morning swim. At the golden hour, sample a couple of locally-caught oysters and a glass of Muscadet overlooking the bobbing boats in the port.

This magnificent château lies on the southern coast of Brittany, surrounded by acres of ancient woodland. You'll find a farmhouse and a dovecote that speak to the rich history of this home, and a medieval entrance hall with its original stone walls and flooring. Whether you're gathering by one of the open fireplaces and keeping cosy, challenging friends to a game of table tennis or heading out to explore the expansive grounds and enjoy a game of croquet or alfresco dining, there's plenty to do during your stay.

There's only a ten-minute drive between you and the beaches of the Atlantic coast, and it's only a short drive into the historic town of Quimperlé where you'll find necessities and fantastic local food. Breton beaches are within easy reach, and you can head out to sea for some water sports or paddle boarding around Larmor-Plage. In the evening, draw yourself a hot, luxurious bath before drifting off to sleep in one of the plush beds.

Light as Dove Feathers

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

Past, Present, Future

While the Mediterranean beaches in the south of France are constantly lauded, the ruggedly beautiful seaside spots at the top end of the country are underrated by comparison. If you want to see a splendid example of one such resort, this home in Sables-d'Or-les-Pins will convert almost anybody.

There's almost something quite rustic about the address, whether it's the large tree-filed garden surrounding the house or the pretty stone facade. Behind the front door, it's a little more contemporary than you might imagine, with the sort of stark white walls, smart wooden floors and sleek kitchen surfaces that wouldn't look out of place in a stylish city apartment. Saying that, the living room's large window and feature fireplace add a level of cosiness, although sadly the latter is only decorative.

Such is the humble size of the local town, the bulk of the attractions and conveniences are only a short walk away. The main beach is 1km, for instance, while there are tennis and golf facilities all of two minutes away on foot. In the centre of town, there's a small selection of restaurants and bars to tide you over during your visit.

With the double-vaulted ceiling, skylights, and floor-to-ceiling windows making the home wonderfully inviting and open. Whether you're cooking in the contemporary kitchen, mapping out the daily plans around the dining table, or enjoying your holiday read in the cosy living area, it's all in one space so you can really make the space into your own social sanctuary. 

The star of the show is the large decked terrace outside, complete with seating and a barbecue for alfesco meals in the sunshine. When it's time to head out, walk to the pristine sand of Plage Du Bechet or Plage De La Salinette, and enjoy fun-filled days sunbathing and swimming.

Sitting close to the point at which La Rance meets La Manche, this home puts guests in an excellent location for exploring the famed beach resort of Dinard.

However, it's fair to say that there's a lot more riding in this address's favour that the spot it occupies on the map. For a start, it's actually made up of two properties that have been joined up and consequently, there's a huge amount of space behind the front door – something only emphasised by the open layout and wealth of natural light from the large windows. Added to that, the design is sleek and contemporary throughout, especially the minimalist kitchen and bathrooms.

There are wonderful views of the coastline to be had out through the windows and you can enjoy these with a sea breeze on your face as you take up residence on the large terrace, which wraps around two sides of the home. As well as that, guests also get the run of a small garden where it's easy to find a shady spot.

When you want to see a little more of the town that has drawn in illustrious visitors for quite some time, there's a coastal path all of 20m from the path that will take you around the coastline and to the golden sands of Plage de l'Écluse. There are restaurants and shops aplenty in the centre of Dinard, about 1km away, while you also have the option of catching a ten-minute taxi-boat to Saint-Malo if you wish.

This traditional stone home has a surprise in store. Far from the old world vibe you may be expecting, inside it's modern and chic – and perfectly equipped for your stay on the Normandy coast.
