Located in a former hotel, this apartment has breathtaking sea views. We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.

Located on the outskirts of Saint-Briac, you're a short walk from several sandy beaches and outstanding golf courses, while being just 1.5 kilometres from the town centre, full of charm and character, with granite houses, small cobbled streets, bakeries, shops, and seafood restaurants. 

Architecturally, it's a stunning design and we love how the owners have made use of the space. With the double-vaulted ceiling, skylights, and floor-to-ceiling windows making the home wonderfully inviting and open. Whether you're cooking in the contemporary kitchen, mapping out the daily plans around the dining table, or enjoying your holiday read in the cosy living area, it's all in one space so you can really make the space into your own social sanctuary. 

The star of the show is the large decked terrace outside, complete with seating and a barbecue for alfesco meals in the sunshine. When it's time to head out, walk to the pristine sand of Plage Du Bechet or Plage De La Salinette, and enjoy fun-filled days sunbathing and swimming.

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

Frequent some of the many local ice cream parlors, restaurants, or bars located just a stone's throw from the apartment for a taste of authentic Breton cuisine. Mosy to the nearest beach, just 5-minutes walk away. Or, for something a little more active, why not sign up for the well-regarded sailing school, surf classes, or hire a jet ski for an afternoon of wave-riding? Those with a penchant for golf are in luck too, with the 18-hole course at Pléneuf Val just 10-minutes away by car.

While the Mediterranean beaches in the south of France are constantly lauded, the ruggedly beautiful seaside spots at the top end of the country are underrated by comparison. If you want to see a splendid example of one such resort, this home in Sables-d'Or-les-Pins will convert almost anybody.

There's almost something quite rustic about the address, whether it's the large tree-filed garden surrounding the house or the pretty stone facade. Behind the front door, it's a little more contemporary than you might imagine, with the sort of stark white walls, smart wooden floors and sleek kitchen surfaces that wouldn't look out of place in a stylish city apartment. Saying that, the living room's large window and feature fireplace add a level of cosiness, although sadly the latter is only decorative.

This is one of those homes that will have you completely smitten before you've even stepped foot behind the front door. As you would hope given the proximity of La Manche, the home enjoys direct access to the beach, which feels almost like an extension of the garden. In the other direction, there are shops, restaurants and markets just over five minutes' walk from the home, as well as other attractions a short drive away – Les Jardins de Ker Louis can be reached in a quarter of an hour, for instance.

Staring at the Sea

Sitting close to the point at which La Rance meets La Manche, this home puts guests in an excellent location for exploring the famed beach resort of Dinard.

However, it's fair to say that there's a lot more riding in this address's favour that the spot it occupies on the map. For a start, it's actually made up of two properties that have been joined up and consequently, there's a huge amount of space behind the front door – something only emphasised by the open layout and wealth of natural light from the large windows. Added to that, the design is sleek and contemporary throughout, especially the minimalist kitchen and bathrooms.

There are wonderful views of the coastline to be had out through the windows and you can enjoy these with a sea breeze on your face as you take up residence on the large terrace, which wraps around two sides of the home. As well as that, guests also get the run of a small garden where it's easy to find a shady spot.

When you want to see a little more of the town that has drawn in illustrious visitors for quite some time, there's a coastal path all of 20m from the path that will take you around the coastline and to the golden sands of Plage de l'Écluse. There are restaurants and shops aplenty in the centre of Dinard, about 1km away, while you also have the option of catching a ten-minute taxi-boat to Saint-Malo if you wish.

Sitting within the winding network of historic streets in the Intra-Muros neighbourhood of Saint-Malo, you couldn't ask for a better spot in the Brittany seaside town. Everything from Eventail beach to the cathedral lies within walkable distance, while there's even a rather peaceful view of the English Channel – or La Manche, depending on your disposition – out through the window. 

The apartment itself is humbly sized, sure, but we're impressed by the simple and contemporary design found behind the front door. White walls and smart wooden floors are a timeless combo, while the furnishings, lighting and artwork selection are subtle and unshowy – and all the more chic for it. It's the sort of space that's sure to give you a bit of inspo for when you're next doing up your home address.

As mentioned, you don't have to venture far to find some of Saint-Malo's big sights, but once you've exhausted the small town – which might take longer than you think – you can catch a ferry over to Dinard on the other side of La Rance for more beaches and historic architecture.

This is a charming, renovated terraced house surrounded by fields on the outskirts of Fréhel. The property features a beautiful wildlife garden and private parking for two cars. The house has comfortable and tasteful furnishings, including a lounge with a flat-screen TV and a large kitchen equipped with modern appliances, such as an oven, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, microwave, electric coffee machine, and raclette grill. Location-wise, you're a few minutes’ walk from the shoreline, where you can spend days along the promenade sampling the local oysters. We also recommend a visit to the centre of the city to soak up the local culture – we suggest the Romanesque and Gothic-style Saint-Malo Cathedral and the 18th-century privateer’s museum, La Demeure de Corsaire.

This is a charming 2-room apartment located on the fourth floor of a small residence in the heart of Dinard. A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep. 

Emerald Coast of Cancale

This is a stunning 2-storey, 4-room apartment in the Solidor district, with an excellent location that's both central and quiet. Just 50m from the beach and sea, this cosy apartment boasts a marvellous view of the sea. It's fully renovated with modern furnishings and electric shutters. The large living/dining room has a double sofa bed, flat-screen TV, and ample space to relax. The open kitchen is equipped with an oven, dishwasher, induction hot plates, toaster, kettle, microwave, freezer, and electric coffee machine. Situated on the commune of Pleneuf-Val-Andre less than 1km from the beach lies this cosy home. Perfect for families, you'll have a large garden to let the kids play in alongside your furry friends, and a raised terrace with seating outdoors to comfortably enjoy the fresh air and blue skies. In the day, large windows and doors to the terrace let the sunlight bathe the open-plan living space, and you'll have the option of whipping up something in the kitchen, throwing a barbecue in the sunshine or heading out to one of many choices for fantastic nearby restaurants. In the evening, sit under the stars with a drink or gather in the living room with a movie on the big screen and let the wood stove heat you up – a perfect cosy evening.

You'll be close to the port of Dahouet, and will be able to benefit from close proximity to shops and pick up any necessities you might need. You won't have to compromise the practicality of your stay just because you want to stay away from the busiest areas and tourist traps! It's only a stroll down to the nearest beach where you can appreciate the sand, sun and sea of the coastline. Not to mention you'll also be close to an array of wonderful bars, boutiques and markets where you can immerse yourself in the culture of Pleneuf-Val-Andre and really feel like a local.

This slice of tropical modernity comes as quite a surprise in a town known for its medieval ramparts and cobbled streets.
