This modern home is located in Westhalten, in the Alsace region of northeast France. We think it's great for families and friend groups, and it's ideal for those looking for a tranquil getaway. Two kitchens, dining rooms, and living areas mean plenty of space – at full capacity though, four guests will sleep on sofa beds, so if you're planning on spending a lot of time indoors things might end up feeling a little crowded. The location of this home lends itself well to exploring the local area by car, including the Alsace towns of Rouffach and Guebwiller.

Silver & Wood

On the first floor of an Alsatian house, this cosy apartment is ideal for exploring the region of Alsace and its famous wine route. You'll find yourself in a charming village between the hills of Bollenberg, Strangenberg and Zinnkoepflé. We recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your trip, whether you're hiking by the lakes or hitting the slopes in winter. The double sofa bed provides flexibility in the sleeping arrangements, and you'll find a ping-pong table in the communal area on the building's ground floor, great for keeping everyone entertained after a busy day.

The Noble Valley

Located in the Alsace valley, this apartment is in a great spot to explore the local area. Though the home lacks a bit of thoughtful design, it’s a good base for a couple and has everything needed for a comfortable stay, such as a fully-equipped kitchen and washing facilities. Guests can also get competitive with a game of ping-pong in the shared space on the ground floor. The picturesque town of Colmar is just a short drive away or head to a nearby vineyard to sample some famous Alsace Rieslings.

Then at the end of an action-packed afternoon, retreat back to the apartment with a bottle of local Alsatian wine for an authentic French aperitif in the comfort of the open living area.

Spend the day strolling through the charming streets and discover riverside bistros, covered markets and historical buildings  – we recommend paying a visit to the oldest house in Colmar, built all the way back in 1380 if you’re a fan of architecture.

Whilst the postcard-worthy city is more than enough to keep you entertained, if you're looking for a change of scenery, stop by the Colmar Nautical Base for fine sands and paddle boating – a great way to spend a hot summer’s day.

There really is something to suit every season here - in winter, the Christmas markets and twinkling lights make a magical addition. After a day of exploring all Colmar has to offer, pick up some groceries and head home to try your hand at a spot of French cooking, which can be enjoyed around the dining table over a bottle of wine.

Old Town Muse 

In the quaint town of Wintzenheim, close to Colmar lies this charming little apartment. Situated on the first floor of a chalet, you'll have access to the garden with barbecue and outdoor furniture, as well as your own private balcony space to look out at the surrounding town. You won't have a separate living area, but you can still cosy up together in the seating area in the second bedroom, and gather around the dining table for some delicious comfort food prepared in the fully-equipped kitchen.

This little apartment is off the beaten track, perfectly located to take advantage of the nearby shops, cycle routes, forest paths and historical landmarks. Staying in this quiet residential area means you won't have to deal with floods of tourists and have a more authentic experience of France, while still being close enough to the excitement that you're not missing out.

Sapphire & Oak Leaves

So constant is this home’s beauty, you can visit summer or winter and be bowled over by the views on offer from the balcony. In winter, when the Vosges Massif is capped in white and the snow lies in wait at the La Bresse-Hohneck ski resort, you can wrap up warm and enjoy a steaming cup of cacao as you gaze out over the blanketed town below. And it’s even more beautiful at sunset, when the orange glow of lights bathes it all in a fairytale glow. Although some of the winter wonderland atmosphere might evaporate as the warmer weather starts to melt the snow, the vibrant green beauty it leaves in its wake is still a sight to behold. 

When you’re not dining alfresco simply to get another look at that view, you can cosy up in the small living room to spend family movie night together, or opt for a bit of quiet time as you get in bed early with a good romance novel. 

With a free shuttle to and from La Bresse-Hohneck, you can get on the piste as early as you’d like and practice on the slopes until your limbs are in need of a hot shower. After, when you’ve sufficiently warmed up, you can have a après-ski drink on the balcony before switching on the fondue machine for a night of cheesy goodness around the dining table. 

Town centre is only a ten minute walk away, so it’s easy to stock up on whatever you need at the bakery, pharmacy, and shop.

Firefly Peak

Winter, Summer, Autumn, or Spring, this gorgeous holiday home – constructed using timber and so lending the building an authentic Alpine feel – is a great choice at any time of year. 

Luxuriate in the wide open spaces of its wood-clad interior, or step outside to the beautiful balcony and take in the ever-changing view of the picturesque valley below – a view that shifts and alters as do the seasons, from the iridescent greens of the summer months to the blazing ambers of autumn and, of course, the pristine, glistening whites of the snow during ski season.

Nestled in La Bresse, an area of the Hautes Vosges, the surrounding area offers a range of activities throughout the year, including more than 250 kilometres of marked walking trails and 200 kilometres of mountain bike tracks. There is also fantastic fishing (as well as spectacular scenery) to be enjoyed at the stunning Lac des Corbeaux. 

For those with a taste for adventure, then the Bol D'Air Aventure Parc is calling, offering thrill-seekers the chance to try their hand at everything from paragliding to bungee jumping and summer sledging. The storybook villages and world-renowned vineyards of Alsace are reachable within about an hour by car too. 

In winter, snow bunnies can make the most of three downhill slopes in the area, including La Bresse-Hohneck just a ten-minute drive from the apartment. The two other smaller resorts of Lispach with six runs, and Brabant, offering three, also welcome visitors during the season. For cross-country skiing, the Lispach Nordic Area boasts 50 kilometres of runs for all abilities, as well as snowshoeing circuits, an international biathlon stadium, a floodlit track, sledging slopes, and an ice rink.

With all that action and adventure on offer, it's just as well that at the end of a day spent making unforgettable memories, you can retreat to the comfort and serenity of your apartment. Make sure to recharge and refuel with a hearty meal of local specialities, which includes a selection of hearty pies, rich and flavourful meat dishes, as well as decadently creamy cheese offerings from local dairies. 

A Midsummer (or Mid-Winter) Night's Dream

Located in the heart of Colmar's historic centre, this convenient apartment provides an idyllic base from which to soak up the city, its sights and its fantastic food and drink scene. You do, however, have a nice-sized kitchen and dining table here, allowing you to dine out or eat in as much as you like. And with an open-plan set-up of the main living area, the space calls for sociable affairs among guests. The views of the city's Dominican Church aren't bad, either.

Colmar is one of Alsace's most sought-after destinations – it's sure to awaken the senses. With quality Alsation wine and a wealth of local culinary delights waiting to be tantalised here, it's safe to say your tastebuds will be in for a treat. But with the majestic chocolate-box architecture and Unterlinden Museum just steps away from the apartment, get ready for a whimsical stay worth writing home about. 

Alsatian Awakenings 

This charming property really is a red brick wonder. Bursting with traditional character, yet beautifully modernised, this home is ideal for a family or group of friends. During the summer months, dine alfresco, enjoy some nibbles and a glass of wine on your private terrace, whilst your friends sink into the Jacuzzi. On those chillier evenings, put on a lavish spread on your quirky centre island table. The open-plan area is ideal for entertaining. Perfect for a movie night, kick off your slippers and curl up on your chaise sofa – all you need is some warm popcorn. Follow the red brick feature wall and you’ll navigate to the sleeping spaces. Contemporary and tastefully decorated, each bedroom has its own theme for a restful night's sleep. 

In the morning, freshen up under your walk-in rainfall shower before enjoying a hot coffee. Perch yourself in front of the French doors and you'll be bathed in the rays of sunshine pouring through the window. Located on the German border, you can embrace two cultures in one. With a quaint bakery only 2km away and countless outdoor activities, your time will be well spent with the picturesque mountain backdrop of the local areas. 

Follow the Red Brick Wall

There's something quietly beautiful about this home that sits just four hundred metres from Lake Gérardmer – it's something to do with the handsome granite exterior, large windows and timber-framed rooftop that all combine to make for a certain rustic charm.

By comparison, the interior is a little more contemporary in style, with stark white walls adorned with artwork, a minimalist kitchen and furnishings that look to the Nordic nations for influence. There are a few period features as well, including stained glass windows, a beech bannister and the fireplace, which is sadly only decorative.

It's fair to say, however, that if you're venturing to Gérardmer, you're hoping to spend as much time out in the Alpine air as possible. Not only does the home have a garden complete with seating for enjoying mild patches, but there's a whole host of excursions to try locally. There's a free shuttle bus to take you to the lifts up to the La Mauselaine ski area, but if you're here during the warmer months, days full of hiking and lake swimming await.
