This stylish little studio apartment is right in the heart of historic Annecy. From your doorstep, you can step out into streets lined with wooden-shuttered buildings, where cafés spill out onto the pavement. An alpine town, Annecy is flanked by snow-capped mountains and perhaps the most picturesque spot is the stone Palais in the centre of the Le Thiou River – the view of which is best enjoyed from the riverside restaurants and gelaterias, a five-minute walk from this apartment. Although it’s a studio, the apartment itself feels spacious and it has plenty of character courtesy of the exposed brick wall and hardwood floor. In summer, there's a lakeside beach just 2 kilometres from this home, and the Voie Verte cycle and footpath passes the door.

Whether you're after excellent hiking in the summer, fantastic skiing in the winter or just a relaxing getaway in the mountains, there's something for everyone here, especially with the gondola a twelve-minute walk away, a free ski shuttle service and the restaurants and shops in town only six minutes by car.

This cosy chalet shows off the idyllic views in every direction and makes an ideal base for anyone exploring the region. You'll feel right at home in this rustic hideaway, with the open-hearth fireplace, squishy sofas and wooden panelling creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our favourite spot to soak up the sunshine (and the scenery) is the deck off the main bedroom. Enjoy a cup of coffee there in the morning before rustling up breakfast in the kitchen, then grab your skis and snowboards and hit the slopes. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge.

Lovingly renovated in 2020, this home in the heart of the Val d’Arly has both charm and location on its side. You don’t have to look far to find proof of the enviable position – simply wander out onto the balcony and you’ll spot the rolling green mountain there as confirmation. But it isn’t just about the views either, not when the ski slopes of Les Evettes are a mere 1.8 miles away and can be reached via the free shuttles that run in season. Get on the snow and test your mettle on the different ski runs, before coming back for a warming Après-ski drink on the balcony. 

The mix of natural wood and a light colour palette makes this home feel incredibly cosy and we can imagine ourselves curling up on the couch in thick socks and a slouchy jumper. Enjoy cups of coffee as you socialise in the lounge, or carve out some you-time by getting your nose in a novel.

Just be prepared that the driveway is a little tricky in heavy snowfall, so you may prefer to leave the car in the village and walk home. The ski bus stops on your doorstep so the slopes of La Clusaz are ready when you are. Non-skier? Hit the ice rink, heated outdoor village pool or bars instead.

Oh, and the kids will love the bedroom on the attic floor – this dormitory-style room has eight built-in bunks and a TV corner. We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t want to leave this place, but if you're looking to ski, this home is located in a quiet village, just a short drive from the slopes.

Set on an old farm between the village of Manigod and the ski resort of La Croix Fry, this home is about as peaceful as it gets. A car is necessary here, as it’s a kilometre to the nearest ski bus stop, but the secluded location makes it worth it. The interiors, created by local craftsmen, have a beautiful quality that only adds to this home’s charm – throw in the hot tub, steam room, and views of the Manigod Valley, and you’re onto a real winner.

If you're looking for a quirky place to stay during a getaway to the French Alps, then this unique home could be the one for you. It's a traditional mazot house, built above ground and supported by stilts, just outside Les Houches – for lovers of the great outdoors, it doesn't get much better than this. 

Inside, the wood-panelled walls create a toasty ambiance where you can settle in and rest your tired legs. The decor is simple yet comfortable, and you can cook up your favourite dishes in the kitchen to refuel after a busy day. The bedroom is cosy, and even has a glass floor panel overlooking the kitchen diner so you can wave hello to your guests. And, if you head outside, there is a private terrace with views across to Mont Blanc, along with a shared garden where kids can play in the fresh air. 

Le Prarion lift is only a five-minute drive away, so you can don your skis and enjoy a brilliant day shredding some powder on the slopes. When it's time for some après-ski fun, then head into Les Houches or take the eight-minute drive over to the famous resort of Chamonix, with its upmarket restaurants and decadent bars. And, during the warmer months, there is a wealth of activities right on your doorstep – from horse riding and mountain biking to rock climbing and even paragliding, you won't run out of things to do easily.

Location-wise, La Giettaz and La Clusaz are within easy driving distance, and the ski bus stop is 300 metres away.
