This stylish little studio apartment is right in the heart of historic Annecy. From your doorstep, you can step out into streets lined with wooden-shuttered buildings, where cafés spill out onto the pavement. Although it’s a studio, the apartment itself feels spacious and it has plenty of character courtesy of the exposed brick wall and hardwood floor. Le Prarion lift is only a five-minute drive away, so you can don your skis and enjoy a brilliant day shredding some powder on the slopes. When it's time for some après-ski fun, then head into Les Houches or take the eight-minute drive over to the famous resort of Chamonix, with its upmarket restaurants and decadent bars. Whether you're after excellent hiking in the summer, fantastic skiing in the winter or just a relaxing getaway in the mountains, there's something for everyone here, especially with the gondola a twelve-minute walk away, a free ski shuttle service and the restaurants and shops in town only six minutes by car.

This cosy chalet shows off the idyllic views in every direction and makes an ideal base for anyone exploring the region. You'll feel right at home in this rustic hideaway, with the open-hearth fireplace, squishy sofas and wooden panelling creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's the perfect place to kick off your snow boots and unwind with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book.

Our favourite spot to soak up the sunshine (and the scenery) is the deck off the main bedroom. Enjoy a cup of coffee there in the morning before rustling up breakfast in the kitchen, then grab your skis and snowboards and hit the slopes. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge.

Lovingly renovated in 2020, this home in the heart of the Val d’Arly has both charm and location on its side. You don’t have to look far to find proof of the enviable position – simply wander out onto the balcony and you’ll spot the rolling green mountain there as confirmation. But it isn’t just about the views either, not when the ski slopes of Les Evettes are a mere 1.8 miles away and can be reached via the free shuttles that run in season. Get on the snow and test your mettle on the different ski runs, before coming back for a warming Après-ski drink on the balcony. 

The mix of natural wood and a light colour palette makes this home feel incredibly cosy and we can imagine ourselves curling up on the couch in thick socks and a slouchy jumper. Enjoy cups of coffee as you socialise in the lounge, or carve out some you-time by getting your nose in a novel. 

With ample windows, the home is not only bright and inviting, but it means you get to keep an eye on the view even when you’re having a meal at the dining table, or settling in to watch a movie together.

It may be perfectly set up for a skiing holiday, but it’ll tend just as nicely to a nature lover’s green spirit whilst giving the whole group a space in which to relax and rejuvenate.

Parking there is free, but if you don't want to take the car, the ski bus stops just 100 metres from this home. Alternatively, you could just relax on this apartment’s large south-facing balcony or unwind in the Nordic hot tub. We love the enclosed games area, too, with its table tennis and table football. This abode also has a sauna and a great farmhouse-style kitchen.

Savoyard Bliss

Summer or winter, this chalet makes a great base for exploring the French Alps. Set in the charming village of Manigod, you'll be treated to stunning views across the Aravis mountains – best enjoyed with a glass of bubbly or a mug of hot chocolate on the balcony. It's got everything you need for a relaxed getaway, from a revolving fireplace to boot warmers and ski storage in the garage. Though it can sleep ten with the bunk beds in use, we think it's best for eight adults and two children. Location-wise, you're just ten minutes from the Croix Fry ski station, so you can hit the slopes with ease.

Nestled five kilometres from La Giettaz, this home is nestled in its own secluded piece of paradise. The drive to reach the chalet may not be the easiest, and snow tyres and chains, as well as a 4x4 vehicle, are a must, but it’s worth the effort. Surrounded by nature, this is somewhere you can truly switch off – and, step inside, and you’re met with a contemporary yet homely space. When you’re ready to hit the slopes, experienced skiers can ski straight from the chalet via a blue slope – otherwise, it’s a mere 1.5 kilometres to the lifts at Le Plan.

We love the contemporary feel of this chalet, and for larger groups, it can be rented alongside the neighbouring home to accommodate even more people. In winter, it’s just a few minutes' drive from the lifts at Croix Fry, so hitting the slopes is a breeze. But, this is a home for all seasons, so when the snow’s melted, turn your hand to hiking, paragliding, canyoning or white-water rafting, instead.
