We particularly love the main bedroom with its four-poster bed and ocean vistas (there's also an office area here if you want to write a travel blog or catch up on work). In fact, there are sea views to enjoy from most rooms. The highlight, though, for us, is the private garden area around the apartment – you have a terrace and garden furniture for alfresco meals – it's a great space overlooking the Grande Plage, as well as the Pointe de la Garde.

Spend idyllic days on the Grande Plage on your doorstep or indulge in some water sports such as surfing, paddleboarding or take some catamaran lessons. If you fancy exploring further afield, then Cape Fréhel, to the west, is perfect for bird watchers, or the nearby charming resort of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo has a small port and coastal paths.

This slice of tropical modernity comes as quite a surprise in a town known for its medieval ramparts and cobbled streets. A timber cabin-style home that wouldn't look out of place in the world's most exotic corners, it's even set in a private garden that's inspired by the jungle. With three bedrooms and a family-friendly open layout, it's stylish, spacious and smart.

Inside, the wood floors and white walls are calm and neutral, with comfy furnishings and lots of house plants. There's a sleek contemporary kitchen with an island where you can sit on the stools and chat as someone rustles up dinner, and both an indoor and an outdoor dining table.

And it's outside where we think you'll be spending most of your time if you're here in the summer months. Step out of your sliding doors and straight onto the deck, partly shaded with a sail over the comfy loungers. And, you guessed it, this place also comes with a private, heated pool. 

Just hanging out here is pretty perfect in our opinion but when you want to head out and explore, the town is less than half an hour away on foot or a five-minute drive. Book a nearby boat trip, visit St Malo or discover some of the sandy beaches on the coast.

Once a home for horses, this former stable is perfectly placed for a visit to Rennes. Tucked nicely near Thabor Gardens, it allows you to be close to the city yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you can enjoy some much-needed quiet time whenever you retreat back home. 
 
With nods to its history through exposed beams and brickwork, this recently renovated home has been beautifully modernised, while retaining its charm. The sleek, modern kitchen is a delight to cook in, should you decide an evening at home is preferred over dining out. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms to choose from, both of which guarantee a blissful night’s sleep. A fairly neutral palette is broken up throughout the home with pops of colour, giving the whole space a calming, cosy vibe.

Our favourite part of this home is the terrace. Quite the sun trap during the day, it’s a peaceful place to retreat to as evening sets in. However, it's fair to say that there's a lot more riding in this address's favour that the spot it occupies on the map. For a start, it's actually made up of two properties that have been joined up and consequently, there's a huge amount of space behind the front door – something only emphasised by the open layout and wealth of natural light from the large windows. Added to that, the design is sleek and contemporary throughout, especially the minimalist kitchen and bathrooms.

There are wonderful views of the coastline to be had out through the windows and you can enjoy these with a sea breeze on your face as you take up residence on the large terrace, which wraps around two sides of the home. As well as that, guests also get the run of a small garden where it's easy to find a shady spot.

When you want to see a little more of the town that has drawn in illustrious visitors for quite some time, there's a coastal path all of 20m from the path that will take you around the coastline and to the golden sands of Plage de l'Écluse. There are restaurants and shops aplenty in the centre of Dinard, about 1km away, while you also have the option of catching a ten-minute taxi-boat to Saint-Malo if you wish.

Even though this large home sits in the middle of a golf course in rural Brittany, there's plenty to keep guests occupied even if they're not keen followers of the sport.

Take the wonderful wellness space, for example. When it comes to seeing a little more of this corner of France, there's a good selection of spots that are a short drive away. The seaside towns of Saint-Malo and Dinard are a quarter of an hour away by car for instance, while both Rennes and Mont Saint Michel take around forty minutes to reach.

All Summer Long

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

Whether you're cooking in the contemporary kitchen, mapping out the daily plans around the dining table, or enjoying your holiday read in the cosy living area, it's all in one space so you can really make the space into your own social sanctuary. 

The star of the show is the large decked terrace outside, complete with seating and a barbecue for alfesco meals in the sunshine. When it's time to head out, walk to the pristine sand of Plage Du Bechet or Plage De La Salinette, and enjoy fun-filled days sunbathing and swimming.

The local village of Plumaudan is picturesque and a quiet location to spend your days. If you’re planning to travel further afield, we’d recommend a visit to the mediaeval town of Dinan, just 12 kilometres away, where you can stroll around the port, enjoy a spot of lunch or even rent a boat if a day on the water tickles your fancy. 

Classic Tranquility

In an old house right on the seafront, this little home is the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries in Brittany. Just half an hour from Saint-Malo, the loft apartment has character features like sloping ceilings, heavy oak beams and partially exposed stone walls, but at the same time it's been modernised with a bright white paint job, herringbone wood floors and skylights. Surprisingly open and bright, we particularly love the living space with its sea view window. The kitchen is perfectly well-equipped for cooking light meals at home but it's only a five-minute walk to the town centre with its bakeries, restaurants and bars (it's known for its oysters, by the way). Keen walkers will be able to explore the local hiking trails and there are all sorts of water sports on offer nearby too.

Seaforth

You'll find this characterful farmhouse in sweet Cancale, where fresh oysters are on the menu and Mont Saint-Michel stands proud in the middle of the bay. It's a charming little village, and you'll be well-placed to soak up its authentic Breton atmosphere. Follow the path by the house and you'll end up at Port Briac beach, while the restaurants perched along the quay in town are an excellent spot to relax with a glass of wine and breathe in the salt-tinged air. 

As undeniable as the location is, what makes this home a standout are the stunning traditional features in every room. We're smitten with the exposed stone walls and knotted wooden beams, and many cosy nooks invite you to kick back and unwind away from the group. Mealtimes are a grand affair in the dining room, with its sky-high ceilings and ornamental hearth. Tuck into a home-cooked feast made with locally-sourced seafood and produce, followed by a glass or two of Brittany's famous cider in the conservatory. During the summer, head out to the garden for sundowners and barbecues, then snuggle up for a good night's sleep in the comfortable bedrooms.

Boasting a sunny south-facing garden, all you need is a little aperitif to relax in this French beauty.
