Even though this large home sits in the middle of a golf course in rural Brittany, there's plenty to keep guests occupied even if they're not keen followers of the sport.

Take the wonderful wellness space, for example. Surrounded by large windows that look out to the peaceful grounds, there's both a heated swimming pool and a Jacuzzi to recline in once you've done a length or two. If that sounds a little too sedate, there's a huge range of games, from foosball and ping-pong to a petanque court and an arcade machine on which you'll find over 1500 video games. We're not saying you'll be praying for rainy days, but they won't be the catastrophe they might be at other addresses.

At the same time, the huge garden offers lots of space and equipment for enjoying spells of sunny weather. You can embrace a French tradition on the petanque court, bounce about on the trampoline or do nothing more strenuous than read on the terrace – perhaps with dinner cooking away on the barbecue in the background.

Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. A stone's throw from Rennes' must-see sites – such as the Place des Lices, Cathédrale Saint-Pierre and La Vilaine, just to name a few – this cosy apartment is nestled in a prime spot for exploring. Start your day with a wander through the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, then dig into an alfresco lunch at the city's array of delicious eateries. Come evening, don your fanciest outfit and enjoy a night at the opera or for something a bit more low-key, pack a picnic and watch the sunset in Parc du Thabor.

When you're not out and about, we think this flat is a fantastic place to kick back and unwind. The sleek and simple design is a calming respite from the hustle and bustle, while features like the knotted wooden beams overhead and decorative mantelpiece add the perfect amount of French charm.

In Our Time

We fell hard for this characterful home not far from the St Lunaire coastline and we're pretty sure other guests will be just as smitten. A lot of that is down to the design. Much of it is contemporary in scope, from the minimalist kitchen and stark white walls to the bare wooden floors and the chic selection of furnishings. However, there are a few features that hark back to the past, like the large cabinets filled with curios and the vintage wall signs.

One of our favourite parts of the home, however, is just how bright it feels – that's what'll happen if you fill the walls with large windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. If you want to feel the sun directly on your skin, you only have to step outside onto one of the pair of terraces, which have both loungers and an alfresco dining table for making the most of sunny weather.

If you're lucky with the forecast, you'll probably want to make the most of the fact that St Lunaire's main beach is less than a kilometre away and there are a few more along this stretch of Breton coastline to explore. The centre of town is just as close when you want restaurants and shops, but there's a greater variety in the Dinard, only a short drive away.

Past, Present, Future

This lovely home is a real delight. It was recently renovated, and has been beautifully decorated – you can tell how much love has gone into this home. Hues of green and jade run throughout the decor, resulting in a soothing vibe. When you’re on holiday, you want to be able to relax in style, and that’s just what you can do here. 

The stunning monochrome kitchen is a great place to begin your day, whether you’re simply preparing coffee or whipping up a feast. Everything you might need has been considered here, so cooking is a pleasure rather than a chore. When everyone is seated around the dining table, you’ll see why this home is so popular with families and groups of friends – there’s plenty of room for everyone to gather together. 

If the sun is shining, you’ll want to be outside. Lie out on a sun lounger to top up your Vitamin D, or dive right into the heated swimming pool. The south-facing terrace is a wonderful spot, looking out over the lush gardens – we’d be tempted to fire up the barbecue for a dinner under the stars. You’re close to the coast so the seafood is great – the scallops from the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in particular are divine.

With captivating views of the twinkling waters of Erquy's port de pêche, this home provides a great base from which to begin your own seaside odyssey, exploring the myriad sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that make coastal France so uniquely beguiling. 

Tear open those windows and feel the sea air rush in and fill the surprisingly wide-open, uncluttered spaces of the apartment – we can't think of many better ways to start a day than with a few invigorating breaths of salty-sweet oceanic breeze. After a light brunch on the patio, Erquy and its surrounds are beckoning, its delights just waiting to be uncovered. 

Frequent some of the many local ice cream parlors, restaurants, or bars located just a stone's throw from the apartment for a taste of authentic Breton cuisine. Mosy to the nearest beach, just 5-minutes walk away. Or, for something a little more active, why not sign up for the well-regarded sailing school, surf classes, or hire a jet ski for an afternoon of wave-riding? Those with a penchant for golf are in luck too, with the 18-hole course at Pléneuf Val just 10-minutes away by car.

When it comes to seeing a little more of Saint-Malo, there's way more than the neighbouring beach to keep you occupied. Fort National can be visited if you time the tides right, while the winding alleys and streets of the historic Intra-Muros area are less than ten minutes away on foot as well.

You'll find this characterful farmhouse in sweet Cancale, where fresh oysters are on the menu and Mont Saint-Michel stands proud in the middle of the bay. It's a charming little village, and you'll be well-placed to soak up its authentic Breton atmosphere. Follow the path by the house and you'll end up at Port Briac beach, while the restaurants perched along the quay in town are an excellent spot to relax with a glass of wine and breathe in the salt-tinged air. 

As undeniable as the location is, what makes this home a standout are the stunning traditional features in every room. We're smitten with the exposed stone walls and knotted wooden beams, and many cosy nooks invite you to kick back and unwind away from the group. Mealtimes are a grand affair in the dining room, with its sky-high ceilings and ornamental hearth. Tuck into a home-cooked feast made with locally-sourced seafood and produce, followed by a glass or two of Brittany's famous cider in the conservatory. During the summer, head out to the garden for sundowners and barbecues, then snuggle up for a good night's sleep in the comfortable bedrooms.

Regardless of any magic trees, this château will quickly cast its spell over you; antique furniture and all the mod cons sit amongst beautifully restored interior furniture, while the sprawling grounds are home to ancient stone crosses, sun-dappled woodland, and even a tennis court. The home’s guardian is on hand to whip up some gourmet meals, there are complimentary bikes to take a tour of the surrounding area and even a library hidden away in the tower. When can we move in? 

Lord of the Pines

Sitting close to the point at which La Rance meets La Manche, this home puts guests in an excellent location for exploring the famed beach resort of Dinard.

However, it's fair to say that there's a lot more riding in this address's favour that the spot it occupies on the map. For a start, it's actually made up of two properties that have been joined up and consequently, there's a huge amount of space behind the front door – something only emphasised by the open layout and wealth of natural light from the large windows. Added to that, the design is sleek and contemporary throughout, especially the minimalist kitchen and bathrooms.

There are wonderful views of the coastline to be had out through the windows and you can enjoy these with a sea breeze on your face as you take up residence on the large terrace, which wraps around two sides of the home. When you want to see a little more of the town that has drawn in illustrious visitors for quite some time, there's a coastal path all of 20m from the path that will take you around the coastline and to the golden sands of Plage de l'Écluse. There are restaurants and shops aplenty in the centre of Dinard, about 1km away, while you also have the option of catching a ten-minute taxi-boat to Saint-Malo if you wish.
