We can easily see why Layers Upon Layers was chosen as one of the best homes for breaks in France in 2016 — it's typical French countryside home with oodles of charm and plenty of amenities that will help you make lifelong memories. The interior has been furnished with gorgeous furniture that give it a rather retro-rustic atmosphere, and the host is keen on restoring period features, so that you can immerse yourself into the spirit of rural France. Meneac is far from a ghost town even outside of the tourist season, making it a great destination year-round, but there are plenty of interesting villages and castles to explore in the area. When you've had your fill of sights for the day, return to your holiday residence and try out a new recipe, or get the charcoal barbecue going in the garden. After a nice meal, treat yourself to some local wine and organise a movie night with the help of the big flat-screen TV that's equipped with Freeview.

If that's not your thing, head to the Carnac Spa for all sorts of thalassotherapy treatments. Of course, there's also a wide choice of seafood restaurants and boutiques to choose from right on your doorstep. You don't have to go anywhere to enjoy the seascape though. Just take a seat on your south-facing balcony and enjoy the vista opening up to the sea. Inside, a blend of calming greys, beach tones, nautical themes and natural materials create an abode that feels both stylish and homely. At the end of the day, the tastefully decorated and comfy bedrooms will ensure you have a good night's sleep – which is a good job, with so much on offer in this slice of Brittany.

Your apartment is set up in the sloped roof of this traditional home, where the rich wood of the pine planks brings warmth and colour to otherwise understated interiors. We love the natural feel of the living and dining space – wicker chairs and decorations, faux fur throws, and pale wooden floors are illuminated by a sloped window and the glass doors leading to the balcony. There's one main reason that people flock to the town of Damgan and that's the long stretches of idyllic beaches that dominate the coastline in this corner of Brittany. With this in mind, you can see why we're so smitten with this apartment that's only 80 metres from the seaside.

Having said that, there's more riding in the home's favour than its prime position on the map. The design is sleek and contemporary, with a preference for walls painted in muted grey, sleek surfaces and white furnishings. The bedrooms might lie on the smaller side, but the open and light-filled communal space more than makes up for it – if not, the private balcony should act as a sweetener.
 
When it comes to filling up your itinerary, more active types will be overjoyed at the number of outdoor excursions that are easy to try here, whether it's renting bicycles and watersports equipment or simply swimming in the Gulf of Morbihan. The town centre is only 150 metres from the home when you want restaurants, cafes and bars.

Situated in a quiet village close to the Brittany coastline, there's an air of nobility to the handsome white facade of this townhouse surrounded by idyllic grounds and this impression continues behind the front door.
