Not many apartments in Paris can say they have waterfront views, but this home in the lively Canal St-Martin overlooks the neighbourhood’s beautiful canal and its boats, local fishermen, swallows and ducks. The home itself is classically Hausmannian and beautifully decorated, with large windows, Hungarian point hardwood floors, marble fireplaces and intricate mouldings that contribute to its old-world regality. Bright blue velvet couches and vibrant contemporary artwork brings a pop of colour and ground us firmly in the 21st century – as do the TV, air conditioning and modern kitchen. We love that the couches face each other to create a lounge conducive to conversation, while the large dining table can seat up to twelve guests for an animated dinner party. If you don’t feel like eating in though, you’re staying in the right place. You’ll find excellent bars and restaurants in this busy neighbourhood teeming with artists and musicians. Plus, you’ll be around the corner from what is widely considered the best bakery in Paris – Du Pain et des Idées – so grab some of their delectable pastries to enjoy on the banks of the canal (or on your private balcony). On the weekends, the city closes the area for pedestrians – making a canal-side stroll or bike ride particularly pleasant. Should you want to reach other corners of the city, the Place de la République metro station is a quick five minutes’ walk away.

A beautifully renovated home designed to host guests in style and luxury. Tastefully decorated using deep colours, rich textures and small accents throughout, every detail has been considered carefully. This artist’s loft might boast some incredibly quirky decor, but it certainly does not feel out of place in the hip Canal Saint-Martin area. Tucked away on a quiet block within this arty quarter, the clean, white facade simply cannot prepare you for the interiors. A joyous cacophony of art and design sings out to you from the moment you step inside. With a unique cartoon mural and Keith Haring-style feature walls, feast your eyes on a space that feels nothing like traditional Paris. The light-hearted and colourful decor is contrasted by the classy dining area, and the sophisticated architecture of the mezzanine bedroom floor. As much as you might like to stay in, the local area is also full of vibrant surprises. Ten minutes away on foot, head for dinner and drinks at the Cour des Petites Écuries, a cool area for eating out with local creative types. And just fifteen minutes from home, one of the city’s oldest districts, Le Marais, is the place to go for unique shops, cafés, and cocktails. Of course, some classic sights of Paris are close by. This contemporary apartment with a sleek and mischievous personality is located close to Porte Saint-Martin — a fantastic spot for those looking for a thriving locale that's also ideal for visiting the central sights. The interior follows a chic monochromatic theme, but it also scores highly in the comfort stakes, too. It would suit a large group or family planning to split their time between hitting the must-dos of Paris and discovering a neighbourhood that's brimming with activities and attractions, including Le Centre Pompidou — less than fifteen minutes' walk away. Despite this enviable position in the middle of the French capital, we found it to be quieter than we were expecting.

Just steps away from the Canal Saint Martin sits this Haussmannian 1 bed apartment. With a country-house style dining room boasting a large dining table and ornate fireplace, as well as a separate sleek, marble top kitchen I was amazed at just how much space there was - even if you did choose to accommodate a couple of extra guests on the sofa bed in the living area. Perhaps not for those seeking a more colourful, design-centric space, the bedroom is pretty basic in terms of decor, but it does have a charming Juliette balcony filling the room with plenty of natural light. 




Vintage Flora

In the heart of Paris, these three apartments make one stylish home for large groups. The private courtyard offers space to sit outside with an alfresco meal or drink, though if you're planning on staying inside things might feel a bit cramped at full capacity. Several of the beds are on mezzanine levels and will be best suited to younger guests, making it ideal for groups travelling with children or teenagers. In a couple of the apartments, you'll find kitchenettes rather than full kitchens, but some of Paris's best restaurants are within walking distance. The central location does mean there may be some outside noise, but public transport is conveniently close by.

The apartment is compact yet comfortable, equipped with everything you’ll need during your stay in the City of Lights. At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space and privacy, we recommend sticking to a guest count of two.

If you suspect that staying in a loft in one of Paris' most exciting neighbourhoods might be the life for you, then this home is the perfect pick. The open-plan living space is thoroughly modern, with crisp, white walls and a giant skylight that ushers in plenty of natural light. Retro lovers will enjoy hours of entertainment with the old-school arcade game machine, while fitness fanatics can use the collection of weights for an invigorating workout. Those looking to work remotely will enjoy setting up in the light-filled mezzanine space, which is perfect for co-working, and when you need a break you can whip up a hot coffee or use the fruit press to make some fresh orange juice. The Canal Saint-Martin is just two minutes away, and while this area is not especially central, it has become one of the coolest neighbourhoods in recent years. Be prepared to meet a very hip crowd who hang out at the independent bars and restaurants along the water, and grab a coffee if you want to join them for a stroll. And, if you want to head into the heart of the city, just hop on the métro at Jacques Bonsergent station to arrive there in around fifteen minutes.

Canal St-Martin, (nine minutes away on foot), with its towpaths, locks and bridges, is perfect for a romantic stroll. Or head to fashionable Le Marais, just over a fifteen-minute saunter, for hip boutiques, stylish art galleries, and cosmopolitan bars. Not only does this home have a fabulous location, but to cap it all off, Anthony is a fantastic host. He thinks of everything from providing Nespresso pods for your morning coffee to umbrellas to keep you dry while you're sightseeing.

You’ll also be perfectly located for adventures across Paris. From here, you can walk to Canal St Martin and Le Marais. Looking out over the beautiful Canal St Martin, this contemporary Parisian apartment is blessed with plenty of light in the mornings. It's decorated in a classic contemporary style with plenty of mid-century inspiration, curved archways and stained glass sitting alongside the super stylish wood-clad kitchen. The stunning cladding carries through to the peaceful master bedroom, where it contrasts nicely with the original floorboards. A cool and diverse neighbourhood, Canal St Martin has plenty of great bakeries and South-East Asian restaurants to tempt you out of your apartment, plus plenty of vibrant bars to keep the party going into the night. On Sundays, your canalside location right by comes into its own. Quai de Valmy is one of two streets reserved exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists each weekend – an ideal opportunity to saddle up and explore the neighbourhood under your own steam. And on warm days, it's the perfect picnic spot as you people-watch by the water. 

Five Miles on the Canal

This home's location close to the Canal Saint-Martin quarter may not be as central but it's ideal for family strolls by the canal on warm days. Boasting charming lived-in spaces with period features and a modern decor, there are also lots of entertainment options here. With two children's bedrooms with a trundle bed each, it allows for plenty of flexibility and makes a great match for a young family. Our favourite room? Its modern kitchen-diner without doubt – not only is it well-equipped but it's a light-filled sociable space for cooking and sharing family meals.

A warm and friendly home set back within a peaceful courtyard, it's tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of antique treasures, timeless pieces and modern adornments, as well as a fascinating collection of treasures from a life of adventures. If you're French is up to scratch, there are plenty of great books to get stuck into and keep you entertained during your stay. Otherwise, you'll need to provide your own literature to make the most of the reading nook. The location is great too, close to the centre but removed from the tourist trail. Over the last few years, the neighbourhood around Canal Saint-Martin has transformed into one of the trendiest places to live for the city's creative community. With it, a selection of kerbside cafes, enticing restaurants and independent shops have sprung up to cater to their diverse tastes. So whether you're after a casual lunch, tempted by a takeaway, or craving haute cuisine – there's a restaurant that'll tempt your taste buds within a ten-minute walk. On Sundays, the two scenic streets that run beside the canal are closed to cars – providing a perfect opportunity to hire a bike and take in Paris at your own pace. Of course, burning off those morning pastries is just a bonus.

You’ll find everything you need in the kitchen for recreating French classics, and there are desks in the bedrooms for those mixing business with pleasure.

Inside, the place is understated, with a large living area for entertaining and relaxing. In terms of sleeping arrangements, we think the bunk beds are better suited for children. It’s also worth noting the third bedroom has no door, which may not suit those who like their privacy.

While some noise can be heard from the street when the windows are open, the stylish design of the home and bright living room more than make up for this. Cook up a feast in the modern kitchen and enjoy a night in around the large dining table.

With VIP views of the Canal Saint Martin and the ever popular Le Comptoir General, you’ll be staying in the heart of Paris’ busy hipster district in this one bedroom apartment. The home takes the best of typical Parisian style with its parquet flooring, cornicing and antique armchairs, and adds a twist with bold fabrics and some dashes of Indian design. This would make a welcome retreat to return to for a couple after a busy day sightseeing, or exploring the bars and restaurants of the nearby Cour des Petites Ecuries.
