It’s based just a short stroll away from the stunning Racou beach, where you can enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean, sunbathe on the sandy shore, or sip on a glass of champagne in a beach bar. We can't think of many things better than living right on the beachfront of the French Mediterranean coast. Sitting four floors up with a spectacular panoramic view of the breakers, this effortlessly chic, modern home adds a slice of luxury to beach holidays. The hub for beach activities is directly over the road, so whether you want to go swimming, kayaking or windsurfing in the balmy Med, you'll be in the water in minutes. If you can tear yourself away from the sandy shores, a half-hour car ride will get you to Perpignan, loved for its renowned cultural scene and wide array of restaurants and bars.

This home ticks every box when it comes to fuss-free holiday homes. It’s small but perfectly formed, with a cosy living room that’s the heart of the home. Children will love sleeping on the mezzanine level, where they can have their own space while still being close to the grown-ups. 

The outside space here is sure to win over everyone, though. You’ll have access to the shared swimming pool, which is a dream to dive into on hot, sunny days. You can sunbathe alongside the pool, dipping a toe in every now and then, or choose to soak up the sun on one of two terraces. The location suits those eager to explore the woodland, but the beaches aren't too far away either.

A modern, stylish and comfortable home in an enviable position, a little more than ten minutes walk from Les Angles' famous ski area, this place has bags of appeal. Over three floors, with its own ski storage room and views across the countryside all the way to the nearby Lac de Matemale and the mountains beyond, it's family-friendly and roomy enough for a large group.

We love the styling here, with its mix of stone floors, local timber and exposed stone. The living room has comfy sofas and a log burner to keep everyone toasty in the depth of winter, and there are a few decorative touches that may come as a quirky surprise (we love the bear in the living room and the ski mask mirror in the hall). A well-equipped, modern kitchen comes with everything you'll need and there's a dining table seating eight.

Elsewhere, bedrooms and bathrooms are all individual and smartly furnished – our favourite being the main bedroom with its partly open en-suite. And kids will no doubt love the bunk room. Close to the centre of the village, you'll be within walking distance of its shops and restaurants, with all the resort facilities at your fingertips.

Up on the roof terrace you can admire views across Empordà, while down below the rooms are family-friendly with plenty of space to enjoy quality time together. Amble through the town of Les Angles, stopping for a bite in one of its authentic restaurants – which, thanks to its positioning close to the border, consists of a delicious blend of French and Spanish flavours packed into hearty fare for mountainous terrain. Nestled in the coastal village of Calella de Palafrugell, a scenic walk from the golden sands of El Golfet beach, this villa promises an exceptional stay – especially since you'll have a House Manager and housekeeping team looking after you. Standing in the heart of the Les Gavarres Natural Park, this former farmstead sits amidst oak forests and idyllic nature. Renovated using local materials, the home's rustic charm makes a fantastic backdrop to a family reunion, while the private garden offers stunning landscape views. While the pool is shared with the owners, it's still a great addition – set in the large garden and surrounded by trees, you'll feel the seclusion here. When you start to miss civilization, though, you're just 15 minutes from La Bisbal d'Empordà, a town with shops and eateries, and close to some of Costa Brava's most beautiful beaches.

In the charming fishing port of L'Escala, the rooftop terrace of this bright and breezy villa gives you a panoramic view over the Bay of Roses. Up here, above the rooftops of the colourful town, you’ll find a turquoise plunge pool offering respite on hot days, and deck chairs to enjoy the view. Dinner can be taken on the terrace at the table for eight, and glass fold-away doors blend the dining terrace with the open-plan living room. Rattan furnishings and driftwood touches bring the beachy vibe inside and pristine white walls are livened up with sea-glass bottles and rare seashells. It’s a five-minute walk to the seafront where boats land the freshest seafood at the harbour, and a ten-minute walk sees you at the sandy stretch of beach at Platja del Rec. The countryside around this grand, Catalan mansion looks like a painting with verdant green forests meeting wildflower meadows. The view from the arched windows of the living room, across the green hills to the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, is a reminder that you’re just a ten-minute drive from the coast here. A day at the beach is possible at the secret bays of Cala del Crit and Cala el Golfet, both sandy coves hidden between the cliffs.

But we wouldn’t blame you if you ended up spending all your time at this luxurious, old-world villa instead. Sun terraces and shaded nooks offer sunseekers and wallflowers alike a place to spend the day. The fountain-fed Roman swimming pool invites you for a dip on a hot day and, wandering the expansive grounds, you’ll stumble across a tennis court and games area with ping pong. Outdoor dining is a treat with a huge table for the whole group in front of the summer kitchen and, if you’re hosting a special event, a marquee can be set up on the lawn.

The foundations of this home date back to the 14th century, and inside you can still get a feel for the medieval in the vaulted basement where you’ve got your own private spa. Down here, there’s an indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Various lounges and sitting rooms allow the whole group to spread out and our favourite has to be the Rib-vaulted grand lounge with its Baroque painted ceiling harking back to a bygone era. Perhaps spend the evening taking it back to analogue in the library or snooker room.

Set high above the sea in the Spanish sunshine, this clifftop villa offers spectacular views – best enjoyed from the scenic swimming pool or shaded terrace. Designed in 1962 by renowned architect Peter Harnden, it blends Californian cool and rustic Mediterranean charm, creating a sense of calm and comfort. We love that each bedroom has its own en-suite, and how many of them open onto a terrace, so you can go from snoozing to sunbathing in moments. We also love the location – just ten minutes in the car from Cadaqués, which former resident Salvador Dalí once called “the best place in the world”. It’s easy to agree when you’re wandering the whitewashed streets of this pretty seaside town – especially when you’re staying in such a heavenly home.

And when you’re ready to explore, the historic town of Torroella de Montgri, with its narrow streets and impressive castle, and the former fishing village of L’Escala, famous for its anchovies, are just a short drive away.

Located in the heart of charming Begur, this stylish Spanish villa offers the perfect sanctuary within Costa Brava’s bustling town. You’ll find large living spaces across two floors, making this a great spot for two groups of families looking for the occasional downtime. We loved the contemporary windows that flood the interiors with natural light, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Its stone-walled garden is in keeping with the home’s traditional charm and offers a lovely backdrop to the sunsets over the Pyrenees each night.

Surrounded by holm oak forests in the heart of the Les Gavarres Natural Park, this villa is an ideal retreat for nature lovers. Outside, there are plenty of shady spots and the swimming pool provides respite on hot afternoons. When it comes to mealtimes, we recommend calling upon the help of your host to arrange for a private chef to take care of dinner. Inside, beds can be configured as doubles or twins upon request and there’s an office for anyone who’s mixing business with pleasure. Location-wise, Pals Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away and the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is reached in fifteen.

Gaudi might be famous for his work in Barcelona, but that hasn't stopped this home taking inspiration from the famous Catalan architect. A 200-year-old farmhouse has been turned into a slick, white-washed hangout. Modernist influences are seen in the rounded walls, arched doorways, and buckled pillars. The living room is far out, from the white pool and foosball tables to the huge semi-circular sofa. The master suite is the most impressive, sending out spaceship vibes with its round bed, droplet shaped fireplace and spacious curved bath. But not even the slinky interiors can compete with Mother Nature, as views over the hills and out to the sea abound from every angle. The garden has been planted with bougainvillea, which showers archways and dining tables with pink blossoms when it blooms.
