You don’t have to look far to find proof of the enviable position – simply wander out onto the balcony and you’ll spot the rolling green mountain there as confirmation. But it isn’t just about the views either, not when the ski slopes of Les Evettes are a mere 1.8 miles away and can be reached via the free shuttles that run in season. Get on the snow and test your mettle on the different ski runs, before coming back for a warming Après-ski drink on the balcony. 

The mix of natural wood and a light colour palette makes this home feel incredibly cosy and we can imagine ourselves curling up on the couch in thick socks and a slouchy jumper. Enjoy cups of coffee as you socialise in the lounge, or carve out some you-time by getting your nose in a novel. 

With ample windows, the home is not only bright and inviting, but it means you get to keep an eye on the view even when you’re having a meal at the dining table, or settling in to watch a movie together.

It may be perfectly set up for a skiing holiday, but it’ll tend just as nicely to a nature lover’s green spirit whilst giving the whole group a space in which to relax and rejuvenate.

The drive to reach the chalet may not be the easiest, and snow tyres and chains, as well as a 4x4 vehicle, are a must, but it’s worth the effort. Surrounded by nature, this is somewhere you can truly switch off – and, step inside, and you’re met with a contemporary yet homely space. When you’re ready to hit the slopes, experienced skiers can ski straight from the chalet via a blue slope – otherwise, it’s a mere 1.5 kilometres to the lifts at Le Plan.

Whether you're after excellent hiking in the summer, fantastic skiing in the winter or just a relaxing getaway in the mountains, there's something for everyone here, especially with the gondola a twelve-minute walk away, a free ski shuttle service and the restaurants and shops in town only six minutes by car.

This cosy chalet shows off the idyllic views in every direction and makes an ideal base for anyone exploring the region. You'll feel right at home in this rustic hideaway, with the open-hearth fireplace, squishy sofas and wooden panelling creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our favourite spot to soak up the sunshine (and the scenery) is the deck off the main bedroom. Enjoy a cup of coffee there in the morning before rustling up breakfast in the kitchen, then grab your skis and snowboards and hit the slopes. When your toes feel frosty and your muscles are sore, head back home to a roaring fire and some delicious cheese fondue around the oak dining table before snuggling up for a family movie night in the lounge.

You'll enjoy first-class skiing in the winter – this chalet is only 100 meters from the slopes – while summertime offers excellent hiking trails through the French Alps. A Nordic hot tub makes a fantastic spot to warm up after your adventures – as does the ceramic woodburner and hammam inside – while the terrace and balcony are ideal for barbecues in the sunshine. Indoors, pine panelling and wooden furniture made by local craftsmen ooze Alpine cosiness. It can sleep a maximum of eight adults, so we think it's a great fit for families.

Modern and chic, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from this home, and the sauna and hot tub will warm you up after a day on the slopes. Just be prepared that the driveway is a little tricky in heavy snowfall, so you may prefer to leave the car in the village and walk home. The ski bus stops on your doorstep so the slopes of La Clusaz are ready when you are. Non-skier? Hit the ice rink, heated outdoor village pool or bars instead.

If you want to be surrounded by lake and mountain views, look no further. There’s a Nordic-style hot tub on the terrace, large gardens, a kids’ play area and pétanque pitch, as well as a shaded pergola for dining. The accommodation is over three floors, and all of the rooms capitalise on the wonderful vistas. Three bedrooms have access to a balcony, while the spacious fourth on the top floor has a seating and workout area. If you want to do some winter sports, the ski resorts of La Sambuy and Semnoz are just under thirty minutes away. In summer, there's a lakeside beach just 2 kilometres from this home, and the Voie Verte cycle and footpath passes the door.

A former farmhouse dating back to 1880, the friendly owner lives downstairs and has kept many of the original details – think wooden beams and a cosy stone fireplace. You'll also be treated to stunning views overlooking the village from the balconies – perfect for an aperitif after skiing. The large open space living area presents a sociable setting that encourages the group to come together for game nights and homemade meals. Why not serve up some French wine and local cheeses picked up from one of the independent shops in Megève, just a fifteen-minute walk away? 

Alternatively, you'll find an array of fabulous eateries serving up the local delights down in the town centre – not to mention aprés ski hot spots if you're keen to carry on the day's adventures after hours. After wine-filled evenings, waking up here couldn't be more refreshing as each bedroom leads out to the balcony with enough outdoor space to breathe in all the fresh air you need. Bliss.

It was built in the 1930s and is full of character and charm, with everything you might need for a comfortable stay, including a well-equipped kitchen. The large garden, where you can admire mountain views, play games, and cook on the barbecue, is ideal for families.

Extraordinarily, in our opinion, Megève seems to fly under the radar of many mountain sports enthusiasts. However, most visitors here will find more than enough terrain to keep them entertained for a week of skiing and snowboarding. In addition, its proximity to Chamonix opens up a host of off-piste options for the pros among your group. Its stunning setting – in the shadow of Mont Blanc – makes it a fantastic summer escape, too, with golf and plenty of hiking routes, plus rafting, paragliding, and mountain biking for the thrill seekers.
