When nothing but an actual French chateau will do, The Wishing Fountain comes to the rescue. This lavish castle has hosted a few famous faces, from noblemen hiding from the French Revolution to Aga Khan and the Dalai Lama. This home is part of a larger estate and is offered here as a single unit with nine bedrooms —if you need more, check out Cosmopolitan Castle for the full estate. Nearby sights include the Landing Beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and Monet's Garden — but there's so much to see around here that we'd rather just let you get on with it. When you're not out and about, relax on the vast estate that surrounds the chateau. You can walk in the gardens, splash around in the pool, play ping pong, work on your tan, read in the salon, or socialise in one of the living rooms. At night, retreat to one of the regal bedrooms, all of which are furnished with antiques and ready to welcome you into their quiet embrace. 

The Wishing Fountain

With its spire and ornate furnishings, this home is a portal into your own fairy tale. Nestled into a picturesque garden with century-old trees and summer flowers, you and your guests will enjoy a rest in your own fantasy bubble.

The inside of this home is replete with historic charm – the walls are adorned with gorgeous mirrors and ceramics which wouldn’t be amiss in a classic French novel. Special care has been made to make the rooms feel homely – minimalism is certainly not on the menu here, and in your room you might find ornate bedposts, frilly curtains, or an ornamental fireplace. This design philosophy is extended to the bathrooms too, with their vintage-style free-standing baths.

Located near the north Norman coast, the home is just a ten-minute drive away from the famous Pays de Caux. Within walking distance from your home, you’ll also find a charming small town with its restaurants and Sunday market – here you can try local flavours, such as the region's famous cider, cheese, and meat.

Further afield you’ll find beautiful walking paths along the coast, rivers dotted with watermills, the thatched cottages of a former fishing village, and a promenade and pier.

Norman Keep

Looking out over the historic heart of the Saint-Léonard district of Honfleur from its rooftop location up on the third floor, this charming apartment can accommodate six people. On entry, you'll be greeted by a beautifully illuminated space with plenty of skylights embedded in the sloping ceilings. The open-plan living room and kitchen is an enticing mix of old and new, with a sleek kitchen and modern furnishings sitting beneath original exposed beams. The bedrooms are more classically contemporary, with ceilings that slope down from sky-high to almost floor level, which adds some design interest. Honfleur has long been a favourite with France's most famous painters, including Monet. Nowadays, this charming old port town is a popular day-trip destination for weary Parisians looking to escape the city for a long weekend. With spades of rugged maritime charm, the Vieux Bassin (Old Harbour) evokes a Normandy that was lost long ago. 

Casa Solar

Located in the heart of historic Versailles, this home has a great location with the Palace of Versailles a short walk away. Nearby you’ll also find the Salle du Jeux de Palme, while Paris can be reached in under an hour. Or have a walk down Satory Street with its restaurants and shops. Back at this apartment, there’s a pretty shared cobbled courtyard with pots and troughs of geraniums. Inside, it's simply furnished, but it has all you need for a French break.

Geraniums

Set on a 17th-century estate spanning over 40 acres of land, this extravagant chateau was restored by a former artistic director of Dior jewellery who creatively combined classic styles in harmony with the home's historic roots with modern design and luxurious amenities. 

It's no wonder that the chateau is listed under the French National Trust – as its majestic ambience, married with its impressive facade, gardens, and interiors, make for a truly magical stay beyond the norm. Across the grounds, you'll find centuries-old trees, expansive grassy lawns, flower gardens and two private swimming pools for guests to use at their disposal. 

Spend leisurely days playing badminton, petanque and croquet, riding the château's bikes or swinging by the tall trees. Sport-loving guests also benefit from tennis membership at a club nearby and an 18-hole golf course – and horse-riding opportunities within short driving distance. 

Get lost inside the castle's drop-dead gorgeous living spaces. This home is sure to impress, from drawing rooms to lounge areas, office space, and a truly one-of-a-kind enormous chef's kitchen. Around every corner lies refined details, antique treasures and an infinity of elegance. 

Situated between the picturesque towns of Dieppe and Fécamp – you'll be just a five-minute drive away from the beaches along the Alabaster coastline in this magnificent part of Normandy. Also within easy reach from the chateau and well worth a visit is one of France's 'Plus Beaux Villages', Veules les Roses – a fifteen-minute drive away. Here you'll find an idyllic setting filled with thatched cottages – wander along the delightful river passing by the watermills or relax by the beach promenade where you can sample the famous 'Veulaise' oysters.

Rose Garden Romance

This chateau in Normandy is bursting with old-world charm. Built by the original owner in the 19th century as a wedding present for his wife, it has been lovingly restored in recent years. While historic features like the elegant façade, grand rooms and antique French floor tiles have been preserved, the basement has been converted into a haven for fun and relaxation. The curved brick rooms are now home to a cinema room, a pool table, and a fitness suite. Meanwhile upstairs retains its 19th-century splendour through antique furniture, original fireplaces, and oak panelled walls. 

Set within an 18-hectare estate, there are beautiful spots to while away the days. Relax on the lawn with a book or sip calvados on the charming château terrace. On sunny days, whip up lunch on the barbecue while the children have fun in the play area. There are over 300 apple and pear trees in the fruit orchard, and beautiful walking trails through the estate’s woodland, with sprawling views of Normandy countryside, which you can explore on foot or on the bikes at the house. 

The area is surrounded by picturesque villages and scenery. The historic town of Gournay-en-Bray is a five-minute drive away, where you can pick up local produce at the twice-weekly market for a picnic. The Forêt de Lyons can be reached in twenty minutes by car, where you can practise a range of outdoor adventures, or simply walk through the winding woodland trails. 

Chateau des Bois

We can see why this French country estate has been featured in a raft of interior design magazines. Inspired by mid-century modern architects, the layout, furnishings and finishes are not what you necessarily expect from these traditional buildings, but they complement them perfectly. There’s a main house and an attached barn, as well as two independent guest suites (one also has a sauna). Step into the gardens and you’ll find a wood-fired Nordic bath and a pétanque court. There’s also a greenhouse growing seasonal crops and an outdoor kitchen with a wood-fired pizza oven. Set in a small village within the Vexin Nature Reserve and just an hour from Paris, you’ll have plenty to see and do during your stay.

Hidden Splendour

Situated in the heart of the French countryside, this rural gîte offers a private and tranquil place to call home for those looking to escape the pressures of daily life. A short stroll from the charming village of Villers en Arthies, you'll find local shops and restaurants, while the surrounding fields provide a scenic backdrop for your afternoon walks. And, if you're looking for a little excitement, the lodge is approximately an hour's drive from thrilling Paris. 

Back at home, days begin with a cup of coffee out in the garden, complete with a patio dining area and barbecue for those cosy meals at home. Stepping inside, you'll find a comfortable living area, cocooned by rustic wooden beams, brick walls, and sloped ceilings. Sink into one of the squishy sofas with a good book, as natural sunlight pours in through the skylights overhead. With stylish furnishings, homey decorative details, literature and board games, you and your family or group of friends will soon fall settle into this quaint country abode.
