For a day out of your sanctuary, hop in the car and head through the village to pick up picnic supplies. As the crow flies, you’re under two miles from the rugged coasts of Cornwall. However, we recommend checking out the fishing village of Padstow, about an hour away. This gorgeous home can be found on the hill behind Mousehole, under a mile away, in the traditional village of Paul. There you’ll find a cosy pub and a 15th-century parish church – if you’re looking for authentic English charm, look no further. It’s in the heart of the Cornish countryside but still close to the coast, making it popular with hikers and surfers alike. We love Sennen beach for the waves, but Penzance is just as easy to get to if you prefer building sandcastles. 

The house has been recently refurbished with much love. Muted hues and natural textiles are key to the style of this laid-back, comfortable home-from-home. When you’re not lounging inside or dining at the farmhouse-style table, you’ll likely be enjoying the fabulous outside space.

This apartment is a prime example of when location, design and the space itself dovetail into something really rather remarkable. Behind the front door, the wooden floor, neutral walls and large windows create a bright and inviting interior, with a touch of class added from the building's grand features, such as the arched doorways and high ceilings. The kitchen is both large and modern enough for long dinner parties, while there's also a small games room to keep little ones out of the way for a while. Outside, guests get access to a private courtyard, which has a barbecue for those warm evenings. If the weather's agreeable while you're here, there's no shortage of activities to undertake nearby. Porthkidney Beach is the closest stretch of the seaside — only a quarter of an hour's walk — but there are lots more options within easy driving distance. Tate St Ives only takes fifteen minutes to reach in the car as well.

Soak up gorgeous mornings in your lush garden, which spreads across two levels. Enjoy your morning coffee while catching up on your book, before getting ready to take on the day. You could easily spend your days lounging around this home, but the Cornish west coast is too beautiful to miss. The seaside town of Marazion is just a ten-minute walk away and upon reaching its beach, you'll be doing a double-take as to whether you're really still in the UK. With glistening clear blue seas and white sand beaches, spending the day here is easily done. And for the full experience, we highly recommend a classic Cornish pasty or fish and chips on the beach for a satisfying lunch. 

Return home and wash off the sand in your outdoor shower before enjoying a few drinks in the garden. The barbecue is ready to go to cook up a feast, or you could enjoy a homecooked dinner around the dining table inside if the weather starts to chill. There's nothing more homely than gathering around with family and friends in a Cornish cottage, while the traditional fireplace warms you up from the inside out.

Set in a secluded spot within twenty acres, this upside-down home makes the most of the countryside vistas and will have you itching to get out to explore. While a car is necessary for travelling further afield, there are walks from your doorstep here or you can take a ride on the Helston Railway to soak up the scenery – it’ll stop at the bottom of the garden for you. Walk past the wrought-iron gate and hang up your coats in the porch, then you'll see how the interior design continues to honour the heritage of this home. With glorious views of St Ives, as pretty as the coastal paintings this artistic town is known for – you won't want to leave this amazing Edwardian townhouse. Situated in a private terrace, with no passing traffic, take in the turquoise ocean vistas from the beautiful, sunny terrace, surrounded by pink hydrangeas, with a glass of Cornish fizz. Or head inside, where you'll be greeted with large bay windows – admire the town, harbour and the sparkling sea from here. Our favourite spot has to be the plush velvet window seat in the bedroom. With two living areas and several outdoor spaces, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to spread out. To top it all, there's parking for up to two cars, which is a rare bonus in St. Ives.

The vibrant town centre is a five-minute walk, where you'll find plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. It's the same walking distance to Porthminster Beach, one of St Ives's six beaches – the others are Porthgwidden, Harbour, Porthmeor, Lambeth Walk and Bamaluz – so you're spoilt for choice. For art lovers, the Barbara Hepworth Museum is a seven-minute saunter, while the Tate St Ives is eleven minutes on foot.

In a tightly contested field, St Ives is one of the most idyllic coastal towns in all of Cornwall, a fact that you'll come to appreciate when gazing out the bay window in the living room of this home. From the comfort of a cosy chair, you can gaze out across the glistening bay and beaches in the distance.

Swivel around in your seat and you'll find a home that keeps it reassuringly safe and simple with the design, with white walls, wooden floors and the odd piece of nautically themed artwork making for a space that's instantly calming. The glossy kitchen is clearly influenced by the trend for all things minimalist, while the boxy bathtubs upstairs share similar traits – and offer a lovely way to finish the day.

When it comes to seeing the best of the locale, you're in an excellent position to do so. Porthmeor Beach is only a seven-minute walk away and the Tate art gallery sits close by, too. Even closer to home – three minutes on foot, to be precise – you can get a primer on the work and life of Barbara Hepworth at the museum and sculpture garden dedicated to her art.

Discover the quaint fishing village of Mousehole with a stay at this traditional Cornish home. Mousehole offers plenty of options for eateries, including traditional pubs and tearooms, but on nights when you just fancy a home-cooked meal, the kitchen is fully equipped. Dine at the rustic wooden table, then head out for an evening walk along the harbour wall and watch the waves crash. Tomorrow you can walk the Coastal Path to the Tater Du Lighthouse, or take a scenic drive to the nearby towns of Newlyn, St Michael's Mount or charming St Ives. If you prefer to stay in Mousehole, wander the shops and enchanting streets of this quiet seaside town before returning it's time to hit the beach again.
