Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. This characterful, quintessentially Cornish cottage dates back to the 1800s and provides perfect panoramic views over these stunning vistas, with three separate outside seating areas to choose from. Watch the sailboats float by as you lie on the garden bed, or have breakfast on the terrace while waving to a passing paddle-boarder – the river is never far away, and you can even view the shimmering water from your double bed. Trelissick is just a twenty-minute drive away, and Swanpool Beach is a sandy cove half an hour away, beside Swanpool Nature Reserve. This beautiful Grade II-listed Georgian Manor House in the heart of Cornwall is perfect for large gatherings and celebrations. Tucked away among thirty acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, there are plenty of woodland paths, ponds and rolling hills for adults and children alike to enjoy. Gyllyngvase Beach takes less than twenty minutes to reach in the car as well. Alternatively, you could use the large lawn at the front of the home for a friendly game of croquet or cricket. Inside, you’ll be blown away by the high ceilings, snug drawing rooms and period-inspired furnishings that will bring a touch of elegance to your holiday. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. On sunny days, the patio with its barbecue and alfresco dining area will naturally be the place to be, but there's also the option to slip away from the crowds for a dip in the outdoor hot tub, complete with candles and LED lighting.

Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

One added benefit of all this glass is the copious amount of natural light that it lets into the home and this asset is emphasised by the preference for stark white in the walls and the kitchen's sleek surfaces. The home's design is definitely shaped by contemporary minimalism, which will really sing to those who have no time for nautical kitsch found in plenty of local properties.

As a glimpse out the windows will tell you, the sea isn't all too far away – in fact, you can be standing on the sands of Swanpool beach in under five minutes' walk. This seaside spot sits on the South West Coast Path, so you can ramble on in either direction if you so wish. The town of Falmouth will take you half an hour to reach on foot, too.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

With its wooden beamed frontage and luscious shrubbery, you’ll instantly fall in love with its countrified good looks – and as you step inside beyond the blue front door, a welcoming snug awaits.

The open–plan kitchen–diner is definitely the heart of the home. Leading directly onto the living room, there’s no better space for a spot of socialising with family and friends – and with access to the garden from the patio doors, you won’t need to travel far to soak up the rays. 

We love the way the tall windows allow natural light to flood from room to room, making things bright and breezy. The statuesque, beamed ceilings sit high on our list of ‘loves’, too.

You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.

Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. Or perhaps you’d rather recline on the outdoor sofas by the wood-burner, have a barbecue, or play a few rounds of table tennis? As you’re just a fifteen-minute drive to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, you’ll also need to pack a picnic one day and head for the shore (don’t forget to grab the beach towels that your host kindly provides).

Settle into this sunny three-bedroom house overlooking the Truro River in Malpas, Cornwall. Whether you're looking to relax, explore the beautiful scenery of the area, or just a change of scenery for working remotely, you'll have everything you need at this beautiful home. You'll have several choices when it comes to relaxing outdoors, with a sunny front patio, back garden and terrace, and private balcony just off the second bedroom to sit out on and enjoy the picturesque countryside views of the river below. Dine alfresco in the tiered garden, or set yourself up in the study to get some work done. For those hoping for a little more excitement in their days, you'll have kayaks at your disposal to get out on the river. Just remember to be aware of the tide times when you're out!

In the sleepy village of Malpas you'll find a fantastic local pub, as well as a farm shop and tea room all within easy walking distance. Lace up your walking boots and take advantage of some excellent country walks right from your doorstep, plus regular boat tours from the marina out to nearby locations, including the bustling nearby town of Falmouth, the Trelissick Gardens or the beautiful port of St. Mawes. There's even a ferry nearby that can take you and your car over the river to the Roseland Peninsula. When you get home, spend a cosy evening warming up on the sofa in front of the log burner as the sun sets.

If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

Meanwhile, an enclosed garden, outdoor hot tub and a west-facing deck make for a spectacular spot to sip on sundowners as golden hour approaches on those seemingly endless summer days.

A mile down the road is the village of Stithians. Here, you'll find a popular pub serving modern takes on British classics, a couple of well-stocked corner shops and even an artisan bakery (who'll deliver to your door if you like). But, of course, there's no need to stop by a supermarket with all this on your doorstep, though you'll find a few options 4.5 miles away in Redruth.

Stithians reservoir is sure to appeal to watersports enthusiasts, with sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding on offer, while the Mineral Tramways cycle path is also worth exploring.

The cottage's location in the west of the county makes it impossible to stray far from either the north or south coast. Seasoned surfers and weekend warriors will appreciate the proximity to plenty of excellent surf spots, including Porthtowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within half an hour's drive.

The Cornish Barn

Away from the cottage, the village of Stithians is just a mile down the road or a half-hour scenic walk away via the network of bridleways and footpaths that crisscross the Cornish countryside. Watersports enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the reservoir, where you can sail, windsurf and paddleboard to your heart's content, with the traffic-free Mineral Tramways trail worth exploring by bike.

Finally, you can't visit this far-flung corner of the country and not head to the seaside. The cottage's location means that you're never more than seven miles from either the south or north coast. Standout surf spots include Porthowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within a half-hour drive of your home.

We love the open-plan living space, with its fully-equipped country kitchen, large dining table and cosy lounge, complete with a wood-burning stove. There are lots of things that impressed us about this cute cottage close to the North Cornish coastline. First off, there's a lot of room inside considering it's only for two people, with the modern corner kitchen particularly large — and well-equipped for that matter. This generosity with space will have contributed towards the M2 Accessibility Rating it received from Visit England, which marks the single-level property out as suitable for guests with reduced mobility and part-time wheelchair users. What's more, there's a private sandstone patio complete with alfresco seating and a hot tub from which to enjoy summer evening sunsets. If you prefer to watch this while sitting on the sand with the sound of the waves lapping nearby, Perranporth Beach is less than ten minutes' drive. Similarly, the towns of Truro and Newquay only take a quarter of an hour to reach by car.

On the other hand, Holywell Bay has one of the most beautiful beaches in the county. You’ll be pleased to know it's only a five-minute walk from your door, where alongside stunning scenery, you’ll find a gorgeous coastal path, and a handful of charming beachside cafes and eateries. Refuel on local produce at the Gull Rocks Bar & Coffee House at the beach’s entrance after an afternoon spent splashing about, and take in the stunning vistas afforded by its prime location. The Treguth Inn, hailing back to the thirteenth century also awaits just five minutes away, while several more traditional pubs and desirable restaurants can be found within a fifteen-minute drive. The choice is all yours. 

A short twenty-minute drive away is the Gannel Estuary, which separates neighbouring Crantock village from Newquay. Have a go at canoeing in the estuary, or try your hand at paddle-boarding over in Crantock. On quieter days, why not go for fish and chips followed by some ice cream in idyllic fishing villages such as Mevagissey, Mousehole or Gorran Haven, all within an hour's drive? Whatever you choose to do, you won't be short of fun.
  
Of course, such is the high-quality amenities, you don't even need to leave the house. An open living area is blessed with natural light and plenty of space, perfect for social evenings. Chill on the sofas, sit with a glass of beer on the kitchen bar or take to the circular table for dinner. On cooler nights, gather around the log burner, or venture out to the garden for a spot of stargazing by the outdoor heater.

Brimming with original artwork and oozing charm, this coastal cottage is a real knock-out. We love every inch, from the inviting living space to the sumptuous bedroom. It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. As far as locations go, this home is close to everything – it's only a ten-minute walk to Gyllyngvase Beach and five minutes to the restaurants, shops and pubs along the waterfront. While there's private parking on-site, you won't need the car for much. Don your comfiest shoes and set off on foot instead, exploring Falmouth's coastal walks, art galleries and cafes with ease.

Occupying an enviable position overlooking the Cornish coast, this elegant home has views to die for. Our preferred way to enjoy the vista is with a cup of tea in the garden as you watch the sailboats floating by below. The house is situated on a private footpath that leads you to the sea in a couple of minutes. If you're in the mood for an adventure, there are plenty of watersports options and boat rental that your helpful hosts can help you arrange. The village amenities of St Mawes harbour are within a few minutes on foot should you need to stock up on essentials. However, if you can tear yourself away from that view, you're just a twenty-minute ferry crossing from the vibrant university town of Falmouth. For a different atmosphere, you're a short drive from picturesque fishing villages like Portscatho and Portloe. After a day on the water or exploring the local area, return to a catered candlelit dinner looking out over the sea (available at an additional cost) before cosying up around the log-burning stove and curling up with a book and a glass of wine.

From a homemade fish pie ready to be popped in the Aga upon arrival to the fluffy towels in the bathrooms, a stress-free stay is guaranteed from start to finish. The rooms are thoughtfully styled with period antiques, and the conservatory, offering distant sea views, is the ideal place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. Head outside, and you’ll find an enclosed garden with seating and a barbecue. Fancy exploring? Set off on the South West Coast Path or head to Porthleven, a thirteen-minute drive away.

Rejuvenate with blue sea views at this modern house perched above sleepy St Mawes - one of the most sought-after Cornish fishing villages. Step out alongside the iconic pastel cottages bustling with cafes and boutiques (five minutes on foot), and you'll quickly discover why St Mawes has ranked the UK's best coastal destination. Grab a crab baguette, hop on the ferry to Falmouth (dolphin-spotting on the way), or go mackerel fishing on the Madeline Rose. And no stay here would be complete without a visit to Henry VIII's St Mawes castle (thirteen minutes on foot). In the evening, the town is buzzing with energy, so sneak away for a cocktail, or hearty pub grub and a pint, if that's more your style. Back at home, your host has thought of every detail to make for a luxurious stay. Expect boutique hotel standards in the light-filled bedrooms - we're talking 100% Egyptian Cotton and mattresses fit for a queen (Hypnos beds hold the Royal Warrant, don't you know). While over in the living space, board games and a games console will keep kids entertained on drizzly days. But it's the bespoke concierge service that impresses us the most, with everything from a private chef or a picnic hamper, to babysitting or massage bookings - you need only ask.

Fresh from an appearance in June 2021's issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine, this coastal Cornish home is more than ready to be the setting for a memorable holiday. Attention to detail can be seen in every corner of this home, with only natural products used for cleaning, and even the bed linens are made from 100% natural materials. The nautical-themed interior design is inescapably cosy, especially in the living room with the log-burning fireplace and a big bay window that looks out over Percuil River. If you want to see this gorgeous view a little closer, simply step outside onto the home's private terraces, which feature a swimming pool, loungers and a table for alfresco suppers - plus a private riverside beach. There's a ping-pong table and trampoline to keep youngsters entertained, but there's also an impressive four-monitor WFH set-up in case there are emails that can't wait. However, be sure to finish up as soon as possible, because there's so much to see and do in the local area, too. By request you can have someone take you out on the hosts' boat, moored at the home. Summers Beach is only four minutes' walk away, although there are plenty of other coastal destinations easily reachable in the car. The harbour town of St Mawes takes a few minutes to reach on foot and has delicatessens, restaurants and a castle waiting to be explored.
