When the sun shines on the striking shoreline, make sure to head to the gorgeous beaches that shape the Cornish coast. Falmouth is just a short drive away, whilst the more famed beach towns are under an hour away. If you want to keep things local, Truro is fourteen minutes away and provides a hint of urban life in the sprawling county.

Of course, you can always have lazy days in the village to immerse yourself in the Cornish lifestyle. Mosey through the cobbled streets and stop off for a glass of cider and a pasty in the traditional pub. Most tourists make a beeline for the Cornish coast – but little do they know that this beloved landscape is home to another beautiful feature, the Fal River. The surroundings here are slightly different, where green pasture gives way to mixed woodland and small pebbled riverside beaches. This characterful, quintessentially Cornish cottage dates back to the 1800s and provides perfect panoramic views over these stunning vistas, with three separate outside seating areas to choose from. Watch the sailboats float by as you lie on the garden bed, or have breakfast on the terrace while waving to a passing paddle-boarder – the river is never far away, and you can even view the shimmering water from your double bed. Trelissick is just a twenty-minute drive away, and Swanpool Beach is a sandy cove half an hour away, beside Swanpool Nature Reserve. After all that exploring, stop at the local inn three doors down for a pint before heading home to play a board game in front of the cosy log burner.

Perched close to the Cornish coastline, it's possible to gaze out at peaceful vistas of Swanpool lagoon or Falmouth Bay, depending on which of the floor-to-ceiling windows you're standing next to at any given moment. The best spot at the address, however, has to be the covered balcony, from which you can enjoy the coastal panorama with a sea breeze on your skin.

One added benefit of all this glass is the copious amount of natural light that it lets into the home and this asset is emphasised by the preference for stark white in the walls and the kitchen's sleek surfaces. This beautiful Grade II-listed Georgian Manor House in the heart of Cornwall is perfect for large gatherings and celebrations. Gyllyngvase Beach takes less than twenty minutes to reach in the car as well. Alternatively, you could use the large lawn at the front of the home for a friendly game of croquet or cricket. Inside, you’ll be blown away by the high ceilings, snug drawing rooms and period-inspired furnishings that will bring a touch of elegance to your holiday. However, there are so many ways to let loose here. The conservatory, for example, has a billiards table, disco ball and sound system, and there's also table tennis that can be set up in the rear hall or courtyard. Just over a mile from the village of Stithians, down by the River Kennall, this stone cottage is set in the 7-acre land surrounding an old farmhouse. But despite its incredibly rural setting, staying here is far from the rustic experience you might expect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Upon arrival, your host will warmly welcome you with a hamper full of luxury Cornish fare and home-baked goods to start your holiday right. While you nibble and sip, you can start exploring the cosy home. Fluffy rugs, plush sofas, and wooden floors create a sense of warmth and softness in the living space, but floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. And the great outdoors are particularly great in this case. Under the wooden decking, get ready to pop champagne and soak in the hot tub. Or perhaps you’d rather recline on the outdoor sofas by the wood-burner, have a barbecue, or play a few rounds of table tennis? As you’re just a fifteen-minute drive to Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, you’ll also need to pack a picnic one day and head for the shore (don’t forget to grab the beach towels that your host kindly provides).

In the centre of charming Truro, this apartment feels like a cosy ode to wool. Plush knitted throws adorn the sofa in the open-plan living room, and the bed is lined with fluffy sheepskin. Herringbone floor completes a classic look, and we love the seat in the big Georgian window (furnished with a sheepskin throw, of course) overlooking the street for a spot of people-watching. The kitchen has everything you need to cook full meals at home – perhaps courtesy of the fresh fish landed every day in the nearby harbour towns. And, if you want to dine outside, there’s a shared courtyard dappled with fairylights for the occasion.

Location-wise, you’re in the heart of town and can reach all of Truro easily on foot. Quaint cafés serving scones (jam first, of course) and cream teas, fresh seafood restaurants and plenty of shops await. Getting out to explore the area, you’ll find the Roseland Heritage Coast AONB a ten-minute drive for clifftop coastal walks, and the buzzing beach of Falmouth is a twenty-minute drive.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

The open–plan kitchen–diner is definitely the heart of the home. Leading directly onto the living room, there’s no better space for a spot of socialising with family and friends – and with access to the garden from the patio doors, you won’t need to travel far to soak up the rays. 

We love the way the tall windows allow natural light to flood from room to room, making things bright and breezy. The statuesque, beamed ceilings sit high on our list of ‘loves’, too.

Being encased in glass allows guests to get in touch with nature come rain or shine, while the adjacent balcony is perfect for a sunny afternoon cuppa overlooked by the resident donkeys in the next-door field.

A well-equipped kitchen is situated towards the back of the room and is more than capable of doing justice to any delicious local produce that you happen to pick up on your travels.

Finally, you can't visit this far-flung corner of the country and not head to the seaside. The cottage's location means that you're never more than seven miles from either the south or north coast. Standout surf spots include Porthowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within a half-hour drive of your home.

But, of course, there's no need to stop by a supermarket with all this on your doorstep, though you'll find a few options 4.5 miles away in Redruth.

Stithians reservoir is sure to appeal to watersports enthusiasts, with sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding on offer, while the Mineral Tramways cycle path is also worth exploring.

The cottage's location in the west of the county makes it impossible to stray far from either the north or south coast. Seasoned surfers and weekend warriors will appreciate the proximity to plenty of excellent surf spots, including Porthtowan, Gwithian, and Porthleven, all within half an hour's drive.

The Hyde is special. Every inch of the home, right from the shell to the interiors, is masterfully crafted by hand. Tucked away in a dense wood, far from the world, it's a perfect retreat for a couple or a solo traveller. It’s also a wonderful location for exploring Cornwall with easy access to the nearest beaches, hiking trails and Falmouth – just a short ferry ride away.

If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.

Though if you fancy exploring, the towns of Redruth, Falmouth and Helston are less than twenty minutes away by car, while the honeypot haunt of St Ives is a thirty-five-minute drive away. The closest village, Stithians, can be reached in half an hour on foot. Stop by for a hearty pub lunch, or visit the local reservoir for watersports galore.

It's snug, but that's what makes it so cosy, and for a small space, it sure is packed with personal touches. Egyptian cotton sheets, electric fireplace, fluffy bathrobes, beach essentials, a welcome basket overflowing with breakfast items – your host has all the little details taken care of. As much as we adore the lovely kitchen, our favourite spot has to be the rustic courtyard. Dotted with olive trees and surrounded by leafy potted plants, it's the perfect place for morning coffees, alfresco dinners and evening tipples as the sun goes down. This charming stone cottage offers delightful views of the river, quietly tucked away in a lush paradise but still close to the excellent Shipwrights Arms and ferry point. Inside the interior design blends seaside chic with rustic, farmhouse vibes. We love the ship paintings, sea-blue tones and wood finishings. This charming cottage still retains a lot of its original features, boasting a characterful stone hearth and wood-burning stove. The open-plan kitchen and living room feel particularly snug. There are lots of things that impressed us about this cute cottage close to the North Cornish coastline. First off, there's a lot of room inside considering it's only for two people, with the modern corner kitchen particularly large — and well-equipped for that matter. This generosity with space will have contributed towards the M2 Accessibility Rating it received from Visit England, which marks the single-level property out as suitable for guests with reduced mobility and part-time wheelchair users. What's more, there's a private sandstone patio complete with alfresco seating and a hot tub from which to enjoy summer evening sunsets. If you prefer to watch this while sitting on the sand with the sound of the waves lapping nearby, Perranporth Beach is less than ten minutes' drive. Similarly, the towns of Truro and Newquay only take a quarter of an hour to reach by car.

Set in a secluded spot within twenty acres, this upside-down home makes the most of the countryside vistas and will have you itching to get out to explore. While a car is necessary for travelling further afield, there are walks from your doorstep here or you can take a ride on the Helston Railway to soak up the scenery – it’ll stop at the bottom of the garden for you. After a day spent exploring the coastline, return home and pop the complimentary homemade fish pie in the Aga for the perfect dinnertime treat.
