This traditional Cornish cottage in Marazion with pretty blue shutters is reminiscent of the Mediterranean. It will sweep you off your feet with its location perched above the coast, offering stunning views out onto the deep blue sea. The living space of the home opens directly onto the balcony and unrivalled vistas across the bay. Dine alfresco on the secluded terrace, but be warned it will be difficult to tear yourself away from this picture-perfect spot once you're comfy. Inside, soft furnishings including the muted sofa suite, wooden furniture and a toned-down colour palette create a warm space, ideal for moments of relaxation where you can listen to the soothing sound of the waves crashing in the background. Positioned in Marazion, Cornwall’s oldest town, there are plenty of discoveries to be made here – the beaches at low tide are sublime in summer and even on cold winter days. Coastal hikes are endless and range from those looking to leisurely take in the scenes or commit to a more strenuous hike. Take a trip across the causeway to St. Michael’s Moun and be sure to visit the magical structures of the Bronze Age. With an array, a myriad of innovative eateries choose from, refuel on some proper pub grub on the way back home. 


Copper Spoon

A short walk from the pretty harbour, this home couldn't be more typical of Mousehole if it tried. Once declared 'the loveliest village in England' by Dylan Thomas, 'Mowzul' is an ever-popular place to visit with narrow streets lined with historic cottages. Set over three floors, this former fisherman's loft is Grade II listed and has just the right balance of character features and modern, coastal-inspired styling. The top floor bedrooms are pretty special and we particularly love the vaulted ceilings and clever internal porthole windows. From the master bedroom, you can even see across to St Clement's Isle and beyond – what could be better? Stroll to the nearby, shops, cafes and restaurants or drive to Lamorna Cove (ten minutes) or Penzance (fifteen minutes).

When it comes to sightseeing and exploring nearby, make a beeline for Marazion Beach – a twelve-minute walk away – or head to St Michael's Mount which you can access on foot in twenty-three minutes by waiting for the tide to go out and walking across its causeway, or by taking a boat from Chapel Rock, fifteen minutes away on foot. You’ve got a bevvy of other beautiful beaches within easy reach too, including Perranuthnoe Beach (a five-minute drive), as well as dog-friendly ones too at Long Rock (a six-minute drive). Elsewhere, the charming village of Mousehole is a twenty-minute drive and Penzance is reachable by car in ten. 

Sea Shimmer

Out of all the sights in Cornwall, St Michael's Mount is one of the most beautiful. This island community is just off the coast of Marazion, with a medieval church and castle sitting atop its rocky terrain. Just a mile and a half from this striking scene, this house is the ideal base for exploring everything the region has to offer. This sleek, modern apartment is dressed in blue-and-white hues, in a nod to its coastal setting. Sash windows look out to rolling fields and trees, and adorning the walls, you may spy a few pieces that were painted by Cornish artists. But for the strongest connection to the nearby sea and the local area, nothing compares to the beach view from your private patio. You’ll love sitting out here for alfresco dining on a balmy evening, just as much as a wholesome brunch on a bright morning. After a long day of exploring beaches and glorious natural landscapes, curl up with a novel and a tumbler of whisky by the shiny, wood-burning stove (after the kids have gone to bed of course).

Higher Ground

Hidden behind the dunes of Upton Towans Nature Reserve, this luxury eco-home is just moments from the beach. Make your way barefoot down the sandy path flanked by rolling dunes and wild grass to Gwithian Beach's three miles of soft, golden sand. Surfing the Atlantic swells, searching the rock pools for shells, splashing in the Atlantic Ocean – whatever you get up to, there's no doubt that this is a pretty dreamy locale, especially if you prefer to start and end your days with strolls along the shore. In the afternoons, head to St Ives (fifteen minutes by car) for a fish and chips lunch, or pack a picnic and hike to the rugged cliffs near Godvrey Head for a seal-spotting session. 

Made with sustainability in mind and locally-sourced materials, this contemporary, light-filled home treads lightly on the environment and is the ideal base for a coastal escape with family or friends. It's got all the bells-and-whistles – shiny kitchen, underfloor heating, rainfall shower in the main en-suite – plus plenty of style, to boot. We love the surfboards hung on the walls, the swish seating in the living area and the leafy houseplants. Cornwall is known for its laid-back vibe, and this home gives off just that. With neutral tones running through the home, traditional wooden beams, a cosy fireplace, and a flourishing garden, it's the perfect Cornish getaway. We love the nods to Cornish coastal roots, with oars on the walls adding a beachy feel to the home. It's twee and charming while being stylish and contemporary. 

Soak up gorgeous mornings in your lush garden, which spreads across two levels. Enjoy your morning coffee while catching up on your book, before getting ready to take on the day. You could easily spend your days lounging around this home, but the Cornish west coast is too beautiful to miss. The seaside town of Marazion is just a ten-minute walk away and upon reaching its beach, you'll be doing a double-take as to whether you're really still in the UK. With glistening clear blue seas and white sand beaches, spending the day here is easily done. And for the full experience, we highly recommend a classic Cornish pasty or fish and chips on the beach for a satisfying lunch. 

Return home and wash off the sand in your outdoor shower before enjoying a few drinks in the garden. The barbecue is ready to go to cook up a feast, or you could enjoy a homecooked dinner around the dining table inside if the weather starts to chill. There's nothing more homely than gathering around with family and friends in a Cornish cottage, while the traditional fireplace warms you up from the inside out. 

Gingham & Cream

We’re not one for hyperbole, but the views from the terrace of this home really are spectacular. Not only do you have the ocean stretching out as far as the eye can see, but the beautiful bay of Praa Sands also curves down below, and the patchwork fields of south Cornwall lie in the distance. Admire the view from the perfectly placed hot tub, drink a morning coffee on the glass-fronted balcony, or cook a meal on the barbecue to enjoy overlooking the water. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room means that you can take in the scene even on cold days – when you may want to fire up the woodburner for a cosy evening in. Aside from walking, surfing and sunbathing on Praa Sands, you’ll also want to explore the nearby village and go hiking along the South West Coast Path, which is easy to reach from this home.

Cornish Breeze

If you’re looking for a memorable seaside escape with panoramic sea views from all windows, then this gorgeous cottage could be for you. For the colder months, there’s a wood burner to cosy up in front of too. You can enjoy the wonderful vistas from outside as well in the large garden with its terraced seating area, perfect for watching the sun set. If you want to explore this stunning location, the South West Coast Path is just beyond the garden. Or spend the day on beautiful Praa Sands, 3 kilometres away. A little further afield there are attractions such as St Michael's Mount, The Minack Theatre and Penzance to discover.

Fairy Tale Cottage

You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. Sashaying through the double doors and across the marble floor, past the stone fireplace, you come to your abode. It’s in the old ballroom of the manor, and the floor-to-ceiling bays windows and gilded mirrors haven’t changed since the days of swishing gowns and music from the pianoforte (indeed, there’s still a grand piano in here). 

Rather than a bandstand, there’s now a kitchen at the head of the ballroom, and if you prefer your evenings slightly more intimate, a book-lined snug with a plush velvet sofa awaits in the bedroom. We love the hand-carved antique bed, waiting to see you off to the land of nod.

There are acres of grounds to explore on the estate, but if you want to get out and see the Cornish coast, it’s just a ten-minute drive to the beaches of St Ives Bay. The gallery-filled old fishing town of St Ives itself is just twenty minutes by car.
