Once part of the Lanhydrock Estate, this recently converted barn sports a contemporary look and plenty of modern comforts without losing any of its traditional charm. Original timber beams and exposed stone walls hark back to the barn's heyday, but the electric car charging point, rainfall shower and Sonos speakers are just a few of the 21st-century updates. This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. There's plenty to get up to in the local area, too. You're almost equidistant from both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Spend a day at the beach in Padstow or visit historic Charlestown, both of which are less than a forty-minute drive away. For those who enjoy long country ambles, Cardinham Woods is just five miles away and offers plenty of walking and cycling trails. After a stroll in the fresh air, finish the day with a coffee at the pet-friendly woodland cafe or a pint at one of the pubs in nearby Bodmin.

Happy Place

Bursting with character, this cute-as-a-button barn conversion found on a forty-acre Cornish farm offers a real escape from the stresses of modern life. You'll have all the charming rustic touches you would hope for — exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling and a log burner — but there's a modern feel, and absolutely no chintz. You can slip into your own wood-fired hot tub just outside the back door, and the host has been thoughtful enough to provide a generous stack of logs to get you started. Meet the farm animals or set off alongside the private Nature Reserve to discover the private shingle beach on the River Tamar. Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

Apple Bobbing

Settle into this sunny three-bedroom house overlooking the Truro River in Malpas, Cornwall. Whether you're looking to relax, explore the beautiful scenery of the area, or just a change of scenery for working remotely, you'll have everything you need at this beautiful home. You'll have several choices when it comes to relaxing outdoors, with a sunny front patio, back garden and terrace, and private balcony just off the second bedroom to sit out on and enjoy the picturesque countryside views of the river below. Dine alfresco in the tiered garden, or set yourself up in the study to get some work done. For those hoping for a little more excitement in their days, you'll have kayaks at your disposal to get out on the river. Just remember to be aware of the tide times when you're out!

In the sleepy village of Malpas you'll find a fantastic local pub, as well as a farm shop and tea room all within easy walking distance. Lace up your walking boots and take advantage of some excellent country walks right from your doorstep, plus regular boat tours from the marina out to nearby locations, including the bustling nearby town of Falmouth, the Trelissick Gardens or the beautiful port of St. Mawes. There's even a ferry nearby that can take you and your car over the river to the Roseland Peninsula. When you get home, spend a cosy evening warming up on the sofa in front of the log burner as the sun sets.

Upon The Hyldreth

Set in the vibrant Cornish sailing community of Fowey, alongside several Victorian buildings, this apartment is like something out of a fairytale. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Wide Eyes

Craving some time away from the mundane? This Cornish retreat, located just 2.5 miles away from Fowey and a ten-minute walk away from Par Sands Beach is a dreamy spot from which to escape the daily grind. With its cottage-like aesthetic, the home offers all the necessary home comforts to ensure a comfortable stay. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. A muted colour palette of creams and greys, alongside the earthy hues of the wooden furnishings and flooring, create a humble abode, that proves easy to cosy up in and relax. The kitchen leads out onto a private terrace, where guests can lap up the sunshine on a summer's afternoon or watch the bats flying around at dusk. Pick apples from the many apple trees around the property when venturing out along the nature-filled pathways. When you return back, there's even a useful little handheld shower outside for muddy boots and rinsing off the dogs. Once you've worked up an appetite, light up the barbecue for an evening in – since there's no light pollution here, you'll see the glimmering stars light up the sky on a clear night. The home is idyllically situated down a picturesque farm track surrounded by fields – meaning a peaceful night's sleep is undoubtedly on the cards. Enjoy walks down to the local pub at the bottom of the hill for a nightcap and leisurely strolls along the southwest coastal path (just a ten-minute walk away) during the light of the daytime. With the nearest Co-op supermarket only a mile away and Cornwall Newquay Airport, just a thirty-minute drive away for those travelling from further afield – you won't have to compromise on convenience here either.

The Burrower's Den

Only a ten-minute drive from the cobbled streets of Polperro and the bustling harbour town of Looe, this studio apartment is a countryside hideaway. Part of a converted hotel, the home is set in the rolling fields of Cornwall. We love to run an evening bath in the outdoor tub and watch the sunset over the hills. The small plot is great for a solo stay or romantic retreat – with a comfy king-size bed and small kitchenette to cook up light meals and breakfasts. The hosts are particularly attentive and bursting with recommendations and helpful tips. Lace up your walking boots: there are paths to explore on the four acres of land the home is set on, or drive to the nearby South West Coast Path for tramps over coastal cliffs. On sunny days, it's a quick journey to Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. We love Lantic Bay, a sheltered cove that's only accessible by foot, for a sense of privacy. For dinner, it's best to head out and make the most of the abundance of seafood in this region.

Oak Loft

With a prime location right on Newquay's famous Tolcarne Beach, this bright, beautiful home is the ideal base for a family or group of friends looking for a seaside holiday in the UK. Your hosts have certainly made the perfect spot to relax in, with a light-filled living space benefitting from nautical decor and comfy, neutral furniture. But, while the house itself will soon have you feeling all warm and cosy inside, we suspect you'll be here for the beach, which is just a 300m stroll over the Tankerton slopes. From here – this charming, coastal village offers a tumble of cheery cafes, indie shops and gourmet restaurants to sink your teeth into. After exploring the beach, you’ll relish a soak in the spa-style tub, or for a magical end to the day, grab a glass of wine and head out to your private patio. The more adventurous among you can make the most of the foraging spots and harvest handfuls of wild garlic to cook themselves. After a day of activity, switch off and relax inside. The playful decor by Sarah Fortescue features furnishings sourced both locally and around the globe. We love the dining table made from oak sourced directly from the estate.

Eggs In A Basket

Affording exceptional views of England's green and pleasant land from the living room, this family studio is perfect for those looking to get away from city life and explore the lush, undulating countryside of Cornwall. It overlooks the scenic Oaklands Park, and is just a ten-minute drive from Polperro Beach and East Looe Beach. Situated in a former hotel, the apartment itself is embellished by beautiful raw-wood in and around the kitchenette and living room. It has three beds in total – a king for parents and twins for children – all with super-soft 400-thread count linen. Perfect for resting those weary legs after hiking through the Cornish country.

Step into this achingly romantic wooden hut in St Kew, Cornwall, for a whirlwind getaway unlike any other. Decorated in an eclectic, bohemian style, you’ll want to fire up the stove and sink right into a pile of embroidered cushions with a mug of hot chocolate. You’ll also have your own private deck on which to drink tea with scones or enjoy hot Cornish pasties from the local bakery.
