Set out over two floors united by considered design, downstairs, you’ll find three airy, luminous bedrooms with contemporary en-suites and a cosy cinema room for movie nights. But for us, the clear standout feature has to be the palatial living area and kitchen with incredible views of the distant fields rolling into the glistening sea. This space is best served with the patio doors slid right back to let the sunshine in as you come together for lazy breakfasts around the dining table. And when the sea comes calling, you won’t have far to go. The two-mile-long surfing beach at Watergate Bay with a buzzy cafe and restaurant is a mere ten-minute walk away. Or for a change of pace, Padstow is just ten miles north, and The Eden Project is a thirty-minute drive away. Just be sure to make it home for dusk to fire up the barbecue and enjoy the ultimate post-surf relaxation in the sauna and hot tub. With the views of the setting sun in the distance, there is no better place to be.

If you are not snuggled up in front of your Charnwood stove, with your slippers resting on the cream rug, there is a beautifully laid dining area ready for afternoon tea and a slice of cake. The decor is layered with delicate neutrals and the vast windows cast a wash of natural light over the space. Ideal for a family, the centre island makes for a perfect social space where everyone can relax together whilst dinner simmers away. To the centre of the house is the delightfully curved staircase. Upstairs, the bedrooms are generous with large luxurious throws. Beyond the cottage-style windows is a beautiful green space, where in the summer months, breakfast can be enjoyed alfresco. 

Spend your days exploring picturesque Cornwall – the beaches, the coastal paths, the delightful little cafes. Refuel on local produce at the Gull Rocks Bar & Coffee House at the beach’s entrance after an afternoon spent splashing about, and take in the stunning vistas afforded by its prime location. The Treguth Inn, hailing back to the thirteenth century also awaits just five minutes away, while several more traditional pubs and desirable restaurants can be found within a fifteen-minute drive. The choice is all yours. 

A short twenty-minute drive away is the Gannel Estuary, which separates neighbouring Crantock village from Newquay. Have a go at canoeing in the estuary, or try your hand at paddle-boarding over in Crantock. On quieter days, why not go for fish and chips followed by some ice cream in idyllic fishing villages such as Mevagissey, Mousehole or Gorran Haven, all within an hour's drive? Whatever you choose to do, you won't be short of fun.

Back at this wonderful barn – it's perfect for a family or a group of friends looking for a tranquil retreat. Inside, we were blown away by the rustic charm mixed with elegant modernism. We love the Delabole slate bathrooms, exposed stone walls and vaulted beams throughout this home. In fact, this place has been designed with socialising and entertaining in mind – it's a great space to spend quality time together. On chillier days, curl up in front of the cosy wood-burning stoves in the living room or den and settle in for an evening of board games with the family. There are four acres of grounds to explore here, including orchards and wildflower meadows. There's even an outdoor shower, so you can rinse off after visiting the beach – your lovely hosts have really thought of everything here.  Our favourite spot in the garden has to be the magical summerhouse – savour the spectacular views that stretch to the Atlantic Ocean or recline on the day bed and read a book. It's just one of the many fantastic features that make this home so very special.

Alternatively, take in spectacular summer sunsets from the west-facing front garden after a day in the ocean. Upstairs, you'll find three comfortable bedrooms, with awe-inspiring views available from the en-suite master bedroom. To top it all off, there are four beaches within walking distance, so you can select a different stretch of sand daily if you like to change it up or settle in your favourite spot if you're a creature of habit. Sweet Nightingale

Arranged over three floors, this maisonette just five minutes walk from Newquay town centre has a pared-back, modern style, with a muted grey and white colour palette making the interior feel as bright and breezy as its coastal setting. Fully modernised but retaining some of its period features, it's got plenty of space for a large family and comes with a real treat in the form of a decked balcony to the rear.

Set over three floors, you'll have an elegant living room with a feature wall of exposed stone, a huge kitchen-diner and bedrooms over the top two floors. The master has a fabulous bay window and its stylish en-suite is open to the room to make the most of its light, while the main bathroom features a freestanding bathtub to soak in after a day on the nearby beach. The sea is less than a mile away and there are both surf schools and board hire shops if you fancy hitting the waves. Less sporty guests will appreciate the array of restaurants in the town centre, and of course, there's nowhere better for evening drinks than on your own balcony.

Breezy and bright, this home has quintessential English seaside written all over it. Whether you're here to top up your tan, hike breathtaking coastal paths or surf Fistral's world-class waves, you couldn't be more perfectly positioned to enjoy everything that Newquay has to offer. On arrival, it's hard to look past the view over the beach. So swing open the French doors, breathe in that sea air and listen to the sounds of the sea – the soundtrack to your stay. We loved the relaxed living spaces that made us nostalgic for childhood holidays to the Cornish coast. It's the ideal spot to sit back with your morning coffee as you plan what to do with your day. Of course, the beach offers something completely different depending on the weather. Blow away the cobwebs on a windy walk, brave a bracing dip, or soak up the sun on the sand. As for the surfing? That's a year-round pursuit. There's no such thing as cold water, just the wrong gear. And there are plenty of local surf shops that can kit you out. Away from the beach, the town beckons with an excellent selection of seafood restaurants and cool cafes with some classic Cornish fare too. Who doesn't love a pasty? Families will love the zoo and aquarium, while couples can enjoy the sunset from the comfort of a contemporary home with views to die for.

Situated a ten-minute walk from Fistral Beach and Newquay Golf Club, this comfortable apartment is a fabulous seaside escape for a family or couple of friends who like to spend their time outdoors. Inside, an open-plan living space with a tropically sweet pink and green colour scheme opens up onto a private balcony, where you can sit out with indulgent cream tea and watch fishing boats slip over the horizon. A clever kitchen makes light work of whipping up culinary favourites, but if you’d prefer to eat out, there’s a fine selection of restaurants a fifteen-minute walk from your doorstep. Once you’re fuelled and raring to go, scamper down to the waterfront to carve through crashing waves or relax on golden sands. Head home at the end of a windswept day, tuck away your surfboard in the storage provided and fall back into comfortable beds for a night of sweet dreams. 

Fistral Vista

This seaside cottage is located a few streets back from the sea; but as it’s situated atop a hill, it still boasts wonderful ocean views. Take in these panoramic vistas from the master bedroom or walk on down to the beach to experience it all in person – just a three-minute stroll away. 

The private balcony is idyllically set up for a glass of wine as the sun sets in the balmy sky come evening time. With four bedrooms for eight guests, this coastal getaway is ideal for an extended family. The back garden contains plenty of isolated seating spaces, perfect for a summer barbecue, dining alfresco or simply soaking in the sun. 

The inside is also spacious, with a large open-plan kitchen and dining room and a piano in the entrance hall. We especially love the conservatory; where you can enjoy the sunshine without stepping outdoors. However, we’d recommend making a beeline for Newquay’s celebrated Lusty Glaze Beach and the abundance of surfboards, wet suits and bodyboards that are available to rent. With food and drink options aplenty, a day on the beach simply isn't complete without cornish ice cream in the afternoon or a good old fashioned fish and chips come dinnertime.

A big family home in the ever-popular town of Padstow, this place has plenty of wow factors – from rare private parking to stunning views across the River Camel estuary. Set on a slope, its three floors make the most of its position with views getting better and better at the top of the house. Inside, it's a tasteful blend of period features and contemporary styling, with a subtle nod towards its coastal location in its palette of whites, greys and blues. The Edwardian home has been thoroughly updated to provide a perfect spot for a large family getaway. There are two living rooms to choose from (one for the youngsters to hang out in, perhaps?) and a big kitchen diner with an Aga and everything you'll need to cook on night's in. We particularly love the big bedroom on the top floor, with its panoramic estuary views all the way across to Rock, and the semi-covered patio at the back where you can barbecue on sunny afternoons. The garden goes up in steps from the house, finally reaching a raised deck with a dining table and chairs – the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine and that famous view. Just minutes away on foot, Padstow's beautiful harbour and legendary dining scene offer all sorts of options, and it's just a short hike along the coast to the nearest beach. Or catch the foot ferry and paddle in the clear waters at Rock.

When it comes to dramatic scenery, few parts of the UK can rival Cornwall and you'll find yourself agreeing with this if you stay in this apartment with an uninterrupted view of Newquay Beach and the county's northern coastline. As it's on the ground floor of the building, it means that, out through the living room's glass doors, there's a terrace on which you can sit and admire this sweeping vista.

When you can finally draw your eyes away from what lies outside, you'll find a contemporary home shaped by stark white walls and sleek surfaces. There are a few nautical mementoes that nod to the local area, but you'll be happy to hear that these all fall on the tasteful side of things. Importantly, you can easily get warm here after a day in the great outdoors, thanks to the underfloor heating and the inviting bathtub in the toffee-coloured bathroom

As well as Newquay Beach awaiting just across the road, the South West Coast Path runs directly past the home and you can continue it in either direction to see a little more of the region's celebrated landscape. In local Newquay, there's a good choice of restaurants and bars to keep you refreshed, as well as an aquarium and a zoo.

This wonderful Canadian-style lodge offers the best of both worlds for adventurous visitors. With easy access to both Cornwall's dramatic coastline and the rolling countryside, it's a wonderful place to embrace the great outdoors in style.

The spacious log cabin has plenty of room for up to eight guests, meaning everyone can put their feet up to enjoy some peace and quiet. The wood-panelled walls create a cosy ambience, and you'll love spending your evenings around the rustic table, sharing some tales of your excursions. Or, if the sun is shining, you can head out onto the balcony and breathe in the fresh air as you sip a tipple and enjoy the view. 

Walkers and cyclists are in the perfect position to start exploring – simply lace up your boots or hop on your bike and away you go. A short drive will bring you to the sea, where you can discover long, sandy beaches and hidden coves. Surfers can head to Harlyn Bay Beach to catch some waves, while golfers can take a short drive over to the local course to tee off.
