This Georgian home in South Devon’s Chillington sits on an acre of land and offers a quintessential rural retreat. Pull on the wellies provided by your host, help yourself to the apples growing in the orchard and cook up a crumble in the country-style kitchen. When it comes to tucking in, groups of more than ten will need to spread across two dining tables – perfect for adults and children looking to chat amongst themselves. The beautifully-appointed bedrooms are spread across three floors, so expect to climb some stairs here. And after an afternoon of croquet in the garden, the group can either socialise together or split off for quiet time thanks to the two welcoming sitting rooms.

River Rush

Positioned overlooking Start Bay on the south coast of Devon, this home has been thoughtfully put together, making the most of its incredible views. Architect designed using a combination of steel, glass and stone, there's more than a hint of a Mediterranean feel to the place. The interiors are elegant and luxurious, with rooms spread across four floors and encompassing a self-contained studio apartment. With all eyes on the rolling hills and the seascape to the rear, the design features several balconies and terraces – all offering places to sit and take it all in. There's so much to love about this home, but some of our favourite features are the cinema room, the floor-to-ceiling views from the dining table and the choice of terraces outside where you can eat your meals together. By day you can explore the coastal paths and villages, or drive to Salcombe or Dartmouth in less than half an hour. If you're bringing your bucket and spade, you'll be pleased to know the beach at Slapton Sands is just a five-minute drive away.

Terraces For Days

Situated in a private gated development, this penthouse apartment is all about the views. Easily accessible courtesy of the lift from the covered parking area, head on up to the third floor and you’ll find an open-plan, light-filled space waiting to welcome you home. The sea vistas are best enjoyed from the balcony over a glass of wine, but you’re spoilt with scenery from most parts of this home – fling open the bi-fold doors and take it all in. Better still, Salcombe's centre is just a short stroll away, so you'll never be too far from shops, eateries and the water.

The Olde English

Perched on the edge of Slapton Sands, you’ll find this wonderful coastal apartment. Beautifully reflected in the decor, this contemporary home has a vibrant, nautical theme, with pops of marine blue peppered around the home. Snuggled on your sofa with your hands wrapped around a morning coffee, you can take a peek through the bay window to see the water sparkle below – it’s the most serene way to start the day. 

For a relaxing evening in, the sleek kitchen will be perfect for you to put your culinary skills to the test, and the open-plan space is ideal for socialising with loved ones. Set the ambience with the electric fire and you’ll soon be ready for a blissful night’s sleep. In summer months, leave your window ajar and the sound of the waves will carry you away. 

With a year-round, dog-friendly beach on your doorstep, be sure to bring your four-legged friends on this holiday – they’ll love nothing more than a three-mile beach to stretch their paws on. Bringing together the best of the coast and country, this hideaway will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. 

Part the Sea

With its sumptuous interiors and privileged position in the heart of Dartmouth, this home is a great base for exploring one of South Devon’s most enchanting towns and its surrounding countryside. Inside, a cosy seating area unfolds into a modern kitchen – we loved the glass ceiling and creamy neutral colour scheme. Head upstairs for quiet bedrooms which guarantee a peaceful night's sleep.

On warm afternoons, spill out onto the terrace for barbecues in the balmy sunshine. Or why not pack a picnic and enjoy a bite to eat in Coronation Park, a five-minute walk away. If you’d like to learn more about the local history, visit the Dartmouth Museum before exploring Bayard’s Cove Fort. 

And of course, no trip to southwest England would be complete without a day at the beach, so slap on your sun cream and make haste to the Blue Flag Award-winning Blackpool Sands, just a ten-minute drive from your doorstep.

Stickleback House

We love the flairs of modernity and fun at this Victorian townhouse, placed just a ten-minute stroll from Dartmouth's harbour edge.

Spread out over three floors and glowing from top-to-toe in crisp white, this family retreat is a joy to return home to. Vintage memorabilia posters and zesty pops of colour perk the space up a treat, while period features and antique pieces bring all the character and charm.

Over in the first of two living rooms, butter-soft sofas placed beside the fire are more than inviting. As is the Gatsby-esque 1920's mini bar in the grown-up feel sitting room next door – playfully known as the Cocktail Room by the owners. And the shaker-style kitchen makes cooking and entertaining a joy – especially with it's handy opening out to the sitting room so that you can keep an eye on the rest of your troops.

When it's time for some coastal adventures, take a stroll down the hill towards Dartmouth's historic maritime centre (five-minute walk – a little longer when you're coming back up!), stopping at its smart shops, galleries, and boutique bistros along the way. Or for a dose of traditional seaside nostalgia, grab your nets and buckets for crabbing on the embankment before fish and chips down at the harbour's quayside – the views of the bobbing boats are delightful. And when the beach finally calls, hop in the car and you'll be on the glorious sheltered bay of Blackpool Sands in five minutes flat.

Heroes Welcome

Explore the delights of South Devon from this picture-perfect penthouse apartment, ideal for a family looking to get away from it all. Located in the sleepy village of Torcross, it's an excellent spot to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The modern, open-plan design means you won't miss out on any of the fun, whether you're relaxing on the low sofa or preparing a mouthwatering dinner in the sleek kitchen. At the end of the day, the three bedrooms offer a tranquil sanctuary and a sound night's sleep. Blessed with a prime position, you're just a short walk away from a three-mile expanse of shingle beach and the pristine Slapton Ley Nature Reserve – a haven for birders. Meanwhile, history buffs will appreciate the opportunity to discover more about the ill-fated Exercise Tiger that took place here in April 1944. Finally, if you want to explore further afield, the picturesque towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are within a half-hour drive.


Strawberry Jam

Just outside Salcombe, this two-storey home places you amongst rolling hills and an idyllic lake. The living areas, offering up incredible views, are perfect spots for relaxing after a hike, but it's outdoors where this home really comes to life – there are 2.5 acres of private gardens to explore, and the home even has its own private slipway on the lake. Fancy trying out paddleboarding? Speak with your host to arrange to hire a couple throughout your stay.

The Oasis House

There’s no chance of forgetting where you are when you stay in The Bowline. The nautical theme runs through the entire apartment (and when you head out, the entire town of Salcombe), but with good reason. This part of south Devon has some of the most picturesque coast in the country, so it makes sense that the area emphasises that. The apartment itself is charming, with a real homely atmosphere. It’s not huge, but if you don’t try to pack it out, it’s plenty big enough, and Diana’s hosting is top-notch, which goes a very long way.

The Bowline

This stylish four-storey home is an old brewery cottage in the centre of Salcombe, a stone's throw away from the waterfront, restaurants and shops. It boasts high vaulted ceilings, an open plan design, and three outdoor terraces with stunning views of the harbour. The top floor leads out onto all three terraces with outdoor furniture including an outdoor shower on the upper terrace. An additional garden studio with a double bed and en-suite shower room is ideal for those that like extra privacy. And the view from up here is simply sublime. 

The Sandcastle

This former writer's retreat is a luxurious woodland escape just outside the seaside town of Salcombe. The house features panoramic window walls in the upper levels, bringing the outside in and giving a tree-house feel to this elegant space. Light wooden dining tables and exposed brick walls create a simple yet chic Scandinavian feel, while the plush beds upstairs, including cute children’s bunkbeds, promise dreamy and restful nights. With two acres of grounds, you could spend hours exploring the gently winding paths and terraced gardens, before enjoying an alfresco dinner on the huge balcony that runs right along the house. Afterwards, jump into the outdoor jacuzzi, run a hot bubble bath or curl up beside the fire with a glass of wine. Venture into Salcombe to wander along the sandy beaches, stopping at the seafood shacks for snacks along the way, and watch boats bobbing in the picture-perfect harbour. There are also bracing coastal walks along the nearby South West Coast Path, and you can try your hand at water sports in the estuary. 

Year Of The Ox

Nestled in a sleepy village on the South West coast path, this corner of Devon is the perfect place to embrace the slow pace of village life. Crafted in grey stone, this bolthole is equal parts rustic romantic as it is contemporary comfort. The upside-down layout means you'll wake up to views of the small garden in the morning. After a relaxing lie-in, head upstairs for a cup of tea and a delicious breakfast. We love the vaulted ceilings – complete with timber beams – and the squishy L-shaped sofa is just the ticket after a long day. Outside, a small patio is a sweet spot to sip morning coffees and evening cocktails. When you're ready for adventure, don your walking shoes and enjoy a ramble along the coast, rewarding yourself once finished with some hearty fare at the pub down the street. You're also well-connected to Devon's busiest destinations – it's only a fifteen-minute drive from Dartmouth and five minutes from Blackpool Sands – making this an excellent base to call home.
