For a wholesome getaway in sunny Devon, this cottage is just the ticket. In the heart of Slapton Ley, you have the coast on one side of the house, and a lake on the other. It's a nature lover's paradise. Enjoy taking your dog for a morning walk along the coastal path, less than a thirty-second walk away. Mornings spent here are peaceful and serene and by lunchtime, families will gather along the golden sands for a beautiful day by the sea. Take leisurely afternoon swims in the sea, before making the short walk home for a glass of wine in your garden. As afternoon turns into evening, you'll love the blue skies slipping away into shades of orange and purples, before unveiling a twinkly starry sky. It's the best seat in the house, the perfect place to enjoy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. If you do want to venture out, the lovely harbour town of Dartmouth, a twenty-five-minute drive away, is lined with restaurants, pubs, and bars. You can't beat seafood when it's this fresh!

You can hear the rush of ocean waves and taste the salt in the air at this charming seaside home in Torcross. First of all, there’s a private terrace, furnished with table and chairs, right on the promenade. Glass sliding doors lead from here to the living room, so you can still hear the sea from the comfort of the sofa. Beachglass-blue bowls and turquoise cushions pop against the otherwise white and cream backdrop inside. The kitchen is tucked away separately, with everything you need to cook a family meal.

On the promenade, it’s no surprise that you’re mere footsteps from the beach and there’s a charming local pub just two doors down. The South West Coastal Path runs right outside the door of this home and, if you want to explore the area by car, you’ll find Dartmouth a twenty-five-minute drive away and Salcombe half an hour away.

This charming little cottage used to be owned by a coastguard and is like a home away from home – but with a better view. Every morning you get to wake up to the sound of the Start Way lake and the sea, with a gorgeous view of the glistening lake from one of the bedrooms. Homely and vibrant, the open–plan living area gives you the chance to pop the TV on while you cook breakfast.

Going solely by the weathered stone exterior and the wooden beams underneath the vaulted ceiling inside, you could be forgiven for assuming that this home is a rustic getaway in the middle of the countryside. It's actually to be found right on the South West Coast Path, close to three miles of shingle beach. Once a coach house, the property has been given a contemporary makeover inside, with parquet wood flooring underfoot, a kitchen finished in a modern shade of grey and bathrooms with neat brick-style tiling. We're sure you'll find it a perfectly relaxing place to return to after a day of exploring the locale. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve sits pretty much next door, while Blackpool Sands can be reached in ten minutes in the car.

Positioned overlooking Start Bay on the south coast of Devon, this home has been thoughtfully put together, making the most of its incredible views. Architect designed using a combination of steel, glass and stone, there's more than a hint of a Mediterranean feel to the place. The interiors are elegant and luxurious, with rooms spread across four floors and encompassing a self-contained studio apartment. With all eyes on the rolling hills and the seascape to the rear, the design features several balconies and terraces – all offering places to sit and take it all in. There's so much to love about this home, but some of our favourite features are the cinema room, the floor-to-ceiling views from the dining table and the choice of terraces outside where you can eat your meals together. By day you can explore the coastal paths and villages, or drive to Salcombe or Dartmouth in less than half an hour. This Georgian home in South Devon’s Chillington sits on an acre of land and offers a quintessential rural retreat. Pull on the wellies provided by your host, help yourself to the apples growing in the orchard and cook up a crumble in the country-style kitchen. When it comes to tucking in, groups of more than ten will need to spread across two dining tables – perfect for adults and children looking to chat amongst themselves. The beautifully-appointed bedrooms are spread across three floors, so expect to climb some stairs here. And after an afternoon of croquet in the garden, the group can either socialise together or split off for quiet time thanks to the two welcoming sitting rooms.

For a stay to remember, look no further than this cottage on the cliff edge overlooking Start Bay. The home is part of an operational lighthouse, and the views are second to none – especially from the decked patio. Flexible sleeping arrangements mean this place is ideal for a family or group of friends, though the steep stairs may make it unsuitable for those with limited mobility. It’s worth noting, however, that there's an automatic electronic fog signal, but earplugs are provided during occasional periods of fog or mist. Guests can explore the South West Coast Path, which runs adjacent to the building, or visit Lannacombe Beach, a twelve-minute drive away.

For that very valid reason, we recommend spending as much time as possible out on the decked terrace – whether that’s in the hot tub or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in one of the outdoor chairs is completely up to you, as long as you’re keeping an eye on the horizon. 

Popular with paddle boarders, you might even spot a few going by when you’re taking in the water views. If you’re eager to try it out for yourself, there’s a rental place a five-minute walk away and they’ll see that you’re joining the fray in no time. Prefer to admire the water from afar? Also completely fine, and you might find yourself frequenting the famous Crabshell Inn. With its waterfront position, you’re able to appreciate the surroundings while you sip a pint, and it’s only a five-minute stroll away from home. 

Explore the market town of Kingsbridge, drive to Salcombe and visit as much of South Devon as you can manage in between all of the relaxation you’ll be doing in this home. Croquet, an apple orchard, and even a selection of wellies are all available, too. Set in the south Devon countryside, you'll only be a short drive from pretty beaches and the seaside.

Tucked away in a secluded valley, yet with South Ham's water's edge and Devon's beaches a short drive away, the setting of this cottage is one of a kind. Part of an impressive country estate, kids will love the shared indoor heated pool, tennis court, playground and vast communal lawns found within the grounds – not to mention the trampoline, slide, climbing frame, sit-on tractors and football pitch. It's worth noting this elegant cottage only has a small private courtyard leading off the kitchen. But with those shared terraces overlooking the valley for barbecues and pizza oven nights, we can forgive that.

Salcombe sits near the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary, where the tides ripple in from Devon’s south coast to create a wonderful waterfront town. With a bustling shellfish industry, you can imagine the sorts of culinary delights you might experience during your stay, as well as traditional fish and chips, and even Michelin-rated eateries over the water in Kingsbridge. Ready to set sail?

Just under half a mile from Salcombe Harbour (around a ten-minute walk) this garden apartment boasts shimmering vistas of the waters beyond. Set in a tasteful, modern building, we think you’ll be spending a lot of your time on the extensive private terrace. With glass-fronted balconies, you can take in the views while reclining on sun loungers with a cocktail in hand. 

After sunset, you can step inside for an aperitif before heading out to dinner. The living space is an inviting nest of cushy corner sofas, woollen throws, and wooden floors. Perfectly modern and rustic at the same time. Sophistication and elegance continue throughout the home, culminating in a superbly stylish dining space with a chunky timber bench and nautical colours – not that you’ll be dining in much.

One of six natural stone cottages tucked away within a secluded valley between Dartmouth and Salcombe, this home's location is idyllic. With no local amenities to walk to, you'll need a car to get out and about. Though you're rarely a fifteen-minute drive from South Devon's sheltered coves and South Ham's water's edge is even closer. There's plenty to keep everyone busy within the cottage's vast communal grounds, too. Think shared indoor heated pool, tennis court, playground, communal lawns and alfresco terraces. Prefer a little more privacy? That wood-burning fire and small suntrap terrace back at the elegant cottage should do nicely.

Situated in a private gated development, this penthouse apartment is all about the views. Easily accessible courtesy of the lift from the covered parking area, head on up to the third floor and you’ll find an open-plan, light-filled space waiting to welcome you home. The sea vistas are best enjoyed from the balcony over a glass of wine, but you’re spoilt with scenery from most parts of this home – fling open the bi-fold doors and take it all in. Better still, Salcombe's centre is just a short stroll away, so you'll never be too far from shops, eateries and the water.

Tucked away in a peaceful but central part of Salcombe, this home had our attention the second we caught those views. With a raised position and spread over three floors, the windows are perfect for watching the town’s iconic harbour. Downstairs, the large living space combines the dining room, kitchen, and living room, meaning guests can easily break off into smaller groups while still being together. Nearby, the adventurous can try crabbing along Victoria Quay or even have a go at paddle boarding. You’ll also want to take advantage of the free parking permit, ideal for exploring even more of Devon’s stunning coastline.

We love the flairs of modernity and fun at this Victorian townhouse, placed just a ten-minute stroll from Dartmouth's harbour edge.

Spread out over three floors and glowing from top-to-toe in crisp white, this family retreat is a joy to return home to. Vintage memorabilia posters and zesty pops of colour perk the space up a treat, while period features and antique pieces bring all the character and charm.

Over in the first of two living rooms, butter-soft sofas placed beside the fire are more than inviting. As is the Gatsby-esque 1920's mini bar in the grown-up feel sitting room next door – playfully known as the Cocktail Room by the owners. And the shaker-style kitchen makes cooking and entertaining a joy – especially with it's handy opening out to the sitting room so that you can keep an eye on the rest of your troops.

When it's time for some coastal adventures, take a stroll down the hill towards Dartmouth's historic maritime centre (five-minute walk – a little longer when you're coming back up!), stopping at its smart shops, galleries, and boutique bistros along the way. Or for a dose of traditional seaside nostalgia, grab your nets and buckets for crabbing on the embankment before fish and chips down at the harbour's quayside – the views of the bobbing boats are delightful. And when the beach finally calls, hop in the car and you'll be on the glorious sheltered bay of Blackpool Sands in five minutes flat.

Inside, it’s modern yet classic with familiar furnishings that make the house feel just like home. You’ll be a short stroll from the nearby beaches, as well as Salcombe’s main attractions. And for those in search of pure relaxation, the terrace provides the perfect spot to sit back and soak in the estuary views. Guests should also note the living room and kitchen are on the top floor with stair access, so this may not be the best option for those with reduced mobility.

There’s no chance of forgetting where you are when you stay in The Bowline. The nautical theme runs through the entire apartment (and when you head out, the entire town of Salcombe), but with good reason. This part of south Devon has some of the most picturesque coast in the country, so it makes sense that the area emphasises that. The apartment itself is charming, with a real homely atmosphere. It’s not huge, but if you don’t try to pack it out, it’s plenty big enough, and Diana’s hosting is top-notch, which goes a very long way.

The Bowline

This home sits in an elevated position in the coastal village of Strete, near Dartmouth. From its raised vantage point, it boasts far-reaching views of Start Bay, Slapton Sands and out to Torcross. It’s on the South West Coast Path so is great for hikers, and there’s good golfing in this area too. Ideal for large groups, this home has plenty of entertaining space, including a formal dining room, two reception rooms, and a self-contained annex where grandparents or teens can enjoy their own space. It’s a period property that’s been brought up to date with all the mod cons – you’ll even have your own cinema room.

You won't be short of things to do with a stay at this South Devon cottage set on a country estate. Expect a shared indoor swimming pool, gym, tennis court, a kid's playground, and so the list goes on. If you don't feel like being sociable, there's a private courtyard back at home for summer months and a wood-burning fire to hunker down beside in winter. Set in a small, secluded valley, you'll need a car to get out and about here. But we don't think you'll mind, with South Hams and Bantham Beach both just a short drive away.

And if you fancy dining out, just hop on a ferry for the short and scenic trip to Dartmouth, where you’ll find a choice of restaurants and pubs.

Out in the palm-filled garden, you can sit back in the hot tub before getting out and taking a perch next to the fire. Alternatively, the alfresco lounge on the terrace isn't a bad spot for a languorous evening over a bottle of wine.
