With its warm stone exterior, there's no mistaking what area of England this lovely Edwardian villa is in – it’s nestled in the popular Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water. We adore the fragrant, lavender-filled south-facing garden – it's the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon barbecue followed by a lavender martini. The level lawn is ideal for garden games too. The grounds here are a real highlight – there's even a beautiful pear tree flourishing at the front.

Inside, you'll find an array of character features such as the original quarry floor tiles in the hall, exposed stone walls, beams, decorative fireplaces and stained glass windows. There's a cosy snug as well as an elegant living room, so this place is ideal for families or friends looking to spread out a little. To top it all, there's parking for three cars in a private bay behind the house – a total bonus in such a central location.

When you feel like exploring this beautiful village, you'll discover its low bridges, pretty waterways and traditional stone houses. Or head to the Cotswold Motoring Museum, which has a variety of vintage cars and a toy collection. It's home to chic restaurants, traditional inns, cosy pubs and plenty of independent shops ripe for browsing. With countryside walks on your doorstep and many Cotswolds attractions within driving distance, this is a desirable place to be – and we absolutely adore this cottage, which is smack-dab in the centre of town. Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.

Standing along a smart row of 18th Century townhouses in Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll find this Grade II listed home. Don't be deceived by its chocolate-box façade. Step inside, and this ancient property is anything but twee. The four-storey house has been lovingly reimagined into a light-filled space awash in crisp whites, soothing greys and lavenders, and luxurious finishes. The original 1700's features remain (the oak beams and impressive stone staircase is quite something), while elsewhere, everything is firmly into the 21st Century. Climb the stairs to the top floor to discover a marble-clad bathroom with a double walk-in shower and a serene master bedroom boasting a sumptuous emperor-sized bed. At the heart of the home is an immaculate kitchen made for action and a large farmhouse dining table for you to all spill out. But if you don't fancy cooking, you're just a stone's throw to some of the best-known eateries and watering holes in the Cotswolds. While just next door, you'll find the Fosse Gallery – considered one of the best art galleries in the country. Now, how's that for a location?

Take a nine-minute drive to Stow-on-the-Wold for its popular Farmer’s Market or stretch your legs with a ramble to Bourton-on-the-Water – it’ll take you an hour-and-a-half by foot. But if you’d prefer to stay put, your host can arrange fantastic at-home experiences including cider tasting and cooking classes.

Farmhouse Retreat

This home could not be better located. Right in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, you'll be mere moments away from the village's tea rooms, shops, and restaurants. With a provided parking space, you'll also be able to explore further afield – just note that it's only suitable for compact vehicles. The design back home is contemporary yet cosy. Everyone can relax together in the open-plan living space, while the two en-suite bedrooms offer privacy. There's also a small terrace ideal for summer sundowners – or better yet, head to the pub up the road for a nightcap.

Stow's Secret

This converted barn is a charming family-friendly home in the little village of Little Rissington. Outside, there is plenty of charm, with a garden to sip wine on summer evenings – fancy a barbecue? Your host can provide one between April and October. The interior is modern but characterful, with a practical kitchen and a log-burning fireplace to cosy up on cooler nights. Location-wise, the Cotswolds offers endless walking trails, and you’ll also find Bourton on the Water and Chipping Norton within easy driving distance.

This village house is set on a quiet lane in the charming Cotswolds village of Bledington. While there's plenty of parking space outside, you won't need to drive to get the most out of your stay. The village green and babbling brook are within walking distance, and we think the location is fantastic for a well-behaved dog. The village's famous King's Head pub is a breezy stroll away, but you'll have space outside on the terrace to enjoy an evening drink or an alfresco dinner. Indoors, all the bedrooms are upstairs with their own en-suite bathrooms, and underfloor heating adds a touch of luxury.

The huge wall of windows floods the main living room with light, with its feature log burner, grand piano and galleried landing taking centre stage. There's a garden room, a large kitchen-diner and, if the youngsters would rather watch a film separately, there's a cosy snug. Bedrooms are supremely comfortable, and you'll have enough bathrooms to banish those morning queues for the shower. If it's a nice day (and why wouldn't it be?) you can step out onto the home's beautiful terrace for breakfast overlooking the garden – a safe and enclosed space for the children to play. Explore the farm, owned by the same family for 220 years, and you may meet some of their rare breed sheep, cattle, hens and pet donkeys. Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.
