And the views aren't too shabby, either. In the morning, savour a cup of tea and listen to the birdsong on the private patio, overlooking the tree-lined paddock. It’s worth noting that the downstairs living space is compact and will feel particularly cosy if you have two dogs in tow. But there’s a decked terrace to spill out onto that you’ll share with another two cottages. Staying in this fairytale cottage offers you a taste of the high life and a gorgeous view of the green rolling hills and unspoiled landscapes. The historical centre of Winchcombe is only a short fifteen-minute walk away as well, which should set you up for at least a few days of sightseeing – there's so much to discover, from chocolate-box buildings to cute-as-button tea rooms. The home itself is furnished with antiques, original paintings, high-quality soft furnishings, and a lovely collection of books chosen by Lady Ashcroft herself – and you'll love curling up with one of them on the comfy armchairs – we especially love the rustic fireplace that keeps things ultra-cosy. Tucked along a tree-lined lane on the outskirts of Winchcombe, this sweet cottage is as cosy as it looks. The red brick exterior exudes a simple country charm, but step inside and you'll be surprised by the sophisticated living space and contemporary comforts.

From the honey-coloured rug to the blue velvet sofa, pops of bold colour are everywhere you look. The roomy kitchen is a dream for home cooks – it's stocked with bakeware, crockery and everything else you'll need to rustle up family suppers to share around the dining table. Another surprise is the private sun-dappled terrace. It calls for barbecues and sundowners in the fresh air, while the shared pasture is perfect for dogs. But our favourite part is by far the decadent bathroom. End the day with a bubble-filled soak in the freestanding tub – a glass of wine in hand – or if you're not one for baths, the rainfall feature in the walk-in shower is just as lush.

Outside, Winchcombe's medieval charms and rolling countryside are begging to be explored. Don your comfiest shoes and set off towards Sudeley Castle or the Cotswold Way – there's a public footpath just off the lane that connects to it – followed by a pint and pub grub at the local taverns in the village. For a change of scenery, Cheltenham, Bourton-on-the-Water and many other chocolate-box Cotswolds villages are within driving distance.

Once the hayloft to one of the grandest homes in the Winchcombe area, this gorgeous barn conversion now presents a luxurious property in its own right. With characteristics from the 1880s, original features contrast beautifully with the high-standard furnishings and modern designs seen throughout the home. 

Upon entering the barn, you'll step straight into the stylish open-plan kitchen-dining area and living room, with exposed beams and characterful stone walls. We particularly love the lime green velvet sofa, which adds a tasteful pop of contemporary personality to the otherwise countryside design aesthetic. Across the rest of the home, you'll find soothing earthy tones and soft fabrics and furnishings that tempt those much-needed relaxation moments. 

When the weather is kind, enjoy alfresco meals on the patio terrace or a refreshing glass of wine in the sunshine while the kids play on the wooden swing set and slide in the courtyard. 

In prime position for exploring the historic town of Winchcombe and the north Cotswolds, enjoy the famously good walking in the area (preferably on foot) or take road trips out in the car to the surrounding Cotswolds villages – all of which are brimming with quintessential English countryside charm and scenary.

Explore the local area on foot with long country walks along the charming historic paths and lanes of Winchcombe. You'll be spoiled for things to do in this Cotswolds location, from horse riding and cycling to afternoon teas and a good old pub lunch – there truly is something for everyone. But let be known a stay here simply isn't complete without a trip to Sudeley Castle and Gardens, just a ten-minute walk along Vineyard Street. As with many cottages, there’s a steep staircase and many low beams and ceilings. So, this place may not be suitable for taller guests or those with limited mobility. Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Second Nature

If you fancy waking up to the sound of blackbirds singing in the trees, then this home is for you. This picture-perfect cottage is located in an idyllic corner of the Cotswolds and offers the perfect countryside escape for a large group looking for some fresh air and good times. It dates back to the 1800s, and you'll find plenty of traditional touches reminding you of the building's long history, from the antique dining table and original flagstones to the wooden beams – remember to watch your head. The interior is cosy yet spacious, with room for all your guests to find some peace and quiet, and the outdoor space is equally brilliant. The garden is filled with mature trees and grassy lawns, all enclosed by an ivy-covered drystone wall, making it the ideal spot to enjoy a family barbecue on balmy summer evenings. There are several lovely walks and cycling trails in the area, which take you through the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Stow-on-the-Wold is just a seven-mile drive away, and Sudeley Castle is five miles away, so you're within easy reach of some of the area's most charming attractions.

Believe it or not, this home actually used to be a barn. There are no animals left, just lots of character and charm. Set in the Cotswolds, in between Stow and Cheltenham, it's part of a larger estate complete with a children's playground and a wonderful on-site pantry that serves excellent coffee and food. A mix of eye-catching antique pieces and quirky art installations, it opens up to a bright, welcoming courtyard that’s perfect for both relaxing and socialising. We also loved the private pool (yes, you read that right), where you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding greenery and grassland.

Dating back to the 17th century, this cottage is perfect for those looking for a slice of idyllic living. Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

A Cotswold Delight

Set in Ford, an attractive hamlet along the banks of the River Windrush, this romantic cottage offers the highest levels of charm and comfort for your Cotswolds escape. It’s hidden away within the grounds of the host’s own home, but offers complete privacy. There’s a small but well-equipped galley kitchen with a Nespresso machine and milk frother for a little luxury morning coffee. But our favourite bit is the four-poster, king-size bed which guarantees a luxurious night’s sleep. just what you need after a day tackling some of the best hiking routes in the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds Way runs right by the cottage and walks around Sudeley Castle are just a few miles away.

Take advantage of balmy days with a stroll through the endless countryside that surrounds your home – there are two circular walks close by, including a 5.5-mile ramble from Alderton to Dumbleton and back. Or why not jump in the car and explore the Regency town of Cheltenham? It’s only a twenty-minute drive away. What better way to end another idyllic afternoon in the Cotswolds than with some pub grub and a glass of rosé at the Gardeners’ Arms, just a five-minute stroll from your doorstep.

This Cotswold home is located in the picturesque village of Stanton. Surrounded by open countryside, you’ll really feel like you’ve got away from it all here. Lazy days can be spent enjoying a cup of tea in the rose garden, reading in front of the wood burner, or firing up the barbecue for a flame-grilled feast. When you want to venture out, you’re just a short stroll from the local pub. And keen walkers will be pleased to hear that the Cotswold Way is on the doorstep. While the home is ideal for a family holiday with teens or a group getaway, children under 12 and all-adult groups under 25 aren’t permitted.

Steps from a beautiful church and village pub, this cottage in Snowshill makes it easy to explore the Cotswolds. We love the views of the steeple from the bedroom windows, while the shared garden boasts panoramas of the rolling countryside. There's a lot to like indoors, too. The cosy sitting area boasts a wood-burning stove and quintessential wooden beams. Consider yourself to be the chef of the group? You'll have everything you need to rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. When you're ready to venture out, you'll find Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, Winchcombe, and other chocolate-box hamlets within a thirty-minute drive.

A rural idyll set on a small, family-run farm, this place oozes charm. A converted stone barn packed with character, it's the ideal place if you're looking for a country bolthole for a large group. In terms of style, it's all stone floors, oak beams and classic country furnishings. The huge wall of windows floods the main living room with light, with its feature log burner, grand piano and galleried landing taking centre stage. There's a garden room, a large kitchen-diner and, if the youngsters would rather watch a film separately, there's a cosy snug. Bedrooms are supremely comfortable, and you'll have enough bathrooms to banish those morning queues for the shower. If it's a nice day (and why wouldn't it be?) you can step out onto the home's beautiful terrace for breakfast overlooking the garden – a safe and enclosed space for the children to play. Explore the farm, owned by the same family for 220 years, and you may meet some of their rare breed sheep, cattle, hens and pet donkeys. Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.

It’s a splendid home for celebrations and special occasions, with more than enough room for fourteen guests. The house, which includes a high-ceilinged drawing room, French-style bedrooms, and even a yoga studio, sits within 13 acres of stunning gardens. The grounds also feature an outdoor heated pool, which little ones are sure to love. If you can tear yourselves away from the house, you’ll find Broadway and its shops and restaurants on your doorstep.

Bordering the rolling greens of the Cotswolds, and with horse racing, Regency architecture, and independent shops to discover throughout, you get a taste of both the city and country lifestyle in Cheltenham. Eleven minutes from the town centre, this apartment offers an elegant base for your stay in Gloucestershire. A neutral palette of colours in the living space brings a sense of calm, with a plush, pale-peach sofa and sand-coloured walls contrasting beautifully with dark wooden floors. Of course in this historic place, there would have to be some original features to admire in the home. Our favourites are the Georgian sash windows, ornate ceiling rose, and green tiled fireplace. Imagine cosying up around this striking hearth with a glass of pinot noir in hand – bliss. Another excellent spot to enjoy sipping wine would be in the freestanding bathtub, just for an extra feeling of spa-like luxury. In the morning, after a cup of Earl Grey, hop in the car and explore the Cotswolds half an hour away. Or if you’re looking for a more local green space, Montpellier Gardens are just a seven-minute walk from home.

This home is something else, so where do we even begin? Set between Stow and Cheltenham, it’s nestled to the edge of a wooded Cotswolds hamlet with beautiful views of surrounding greenery and grassland. Part of an estate (with a wonderful on-site pantry/cafe that serves excellent coffee), you have access to tennis courts, tranquil gardens, and a children's playground. Even though it’s an old historic property (antique lovers rejoice), it also has plenty of modern comforts like a hot tub, games room, and a secret cinema. Full of charm, it’s a characterful home that’s just waiting to be explored.
