Back downstairs, the layout is set up for easy socialising with a spacious kitchen made for action and two dining spaces. But there are also cosy nooks to retreat to, with a separate playroom and snug complete with a crackling fire.  Outside, kids and furry friends alike can roam free on the immaculate lawns, all under the watchful gaze of the grown-ups from the raised deck terrace as you fire up the barbecue. And when it's time to get out and about, you're right on the edge of Winchcombe, with restaurants, shops, and bars just a stroll away, as well as easy access to the area's many breathtaking walking trails. Only a mile from Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, this pocket-sized hideaway is a perfect fit for two. We love how cosy and bright the living space is. Whether you're preparing breakfast in the mint green kitchenette, unwinding with a glass of wine on the comfy sofa or snuggling up in the sumptuous bed adorned with a William Morris duvet, you'll feel right at home here. And the views aren't too shabby, either. In the morning, savour a cup of tea and listen to the birdsong on the private patio, overlooking the tree-lined paddock. Evenings call for charcoal barbecues as the sun goes down, followed by glasses of wine under the stars. 

Ramblers will love this rural spot. Public footpaths lead through the rolling countryside towards the Cotswold Way and along the River Isbourne, and with pubs and restaurants in Winchcombe, you'll have everything you need just a stone's throw away. If it's the magic of the Cotswolds you're after, take an afternoon drive to Bourton-on-the-Water – it's twenty-five minutes away.

Make sure to discover the fascinating history of the estate, which you’ll have complimentary access to. Once home to King Charles I and his nephew, Prince Rupert, the castle has impressive royal connections. It’s worth noting that the downstairs living space is compact and will feel particularly cosy if you have two dogs in tow. But there’s a decked terrace to spill out onto that you’ll share with another two cottages. Location-wise, Winchcombe, with traditional inns, tearooms and honey stone houses aplenty is just a short amble away.

Inside, the traditional interiors are befitting of this period home, and the wooden deck outside is a nice touch for evening drinks. Though it's worth noting, it's shared with the two neighbouring cottages, so it isn't the most private of spaces. Ready to stretch your legs? The castle and gardens, which you'll have complimentary access to, will keep you busy. Or mosey into charming Winchcombe with it's local inn – just 200 metres from your door.

Split across two wings that are accessed via separate doors, you’ll enjoy snuggling up in the peaceful living room – we especially loved the regal tones and the antique tapestry that hangs above the sofa. There’s a well-appointed kitchen for home-cooked suppers and a neat courtyard with alfresco dining set for breakfasts in the sunshine. Spend a morning exploring the magnificent castle and gardens before strolling into Winchcombe, less than ten minutes away. Here, you’ll find a pretty High Street lined with bakeries, indie boutiques and quaint tearooms. If you’ve a taste for fine dining, the Michelin starred 5 in Winchcombe restaurant is sure to impress. But if it's pub grub and local brews you’re after, the nearby inns will set you right.

Once the hayloft to one of the grandest homes in the Winchcombe area, this gorgeous barn conversion now presents a luxurious property in its own right. With characteristics from the 1880s, original features contrast beautifully with the high-standard furnishings and modern designs seen throughout the home. 

Upon entering the barn, you'll step straight into the stylish open-plan kitchen-dining area and living room, with exposed beams and characterful stone walls. We particularly love the lime green velvet sofa, which adds a tasteful pop of contemporary personality to the otherwise countryside design aesthetic. Across the rest of the home, you'll find soothing earthy tones and soft fabrics and furnishings that tempt those much-needed relaxation moments. 

When the weather is kind, enjoy alfresco meals on the patio terrace or a refreshing glass of wine in the sunshine while the kids play on the wooden swing set and slide in the courtyard.

The kitchen and dining areas are perfect for celebrations, with plenty of room for a large group. Outside, you can soak in the hot tub while admiring countryside views, then dine alfresco. Elegant yet charming, this home is a bit special.

Positioned on the outskirts of historic Winchcombe, you'll benefit from incredible views of the village as well as easy access to plenty of cafes, shops and restaurants – this is an excellent base from which to explore the Cotswold's outstanding natural beauty. Inside the cottage, a cosy wood-burning stove awaits – perfect for cold nights in – especially after a day spent walking through this idyllic scenery. The country-chic kitchen, dining table for eight and wonderful garden with expansive views are just the icing on the cake. If you'd like a change from the picture-postcard villages, then the charming town of Cheltenham is just eight miles away, while the beautiful cities of Oxford and Bath are a little over an hour's drive.

Tucked along a tree-lined lane on the outskirts of Winchcombe, this sweet cottage is as cosy as it looks. The red brick exterior exudes a simple country charm, but step inside and you'll be surprised by the sophisticated living space and contemporary comforts.

From the honey-coloured rug to the blue velvet sofa, pops of bold colour are everywhere you look. The roomy kitchen is a dream for home cooks – it's stocked with bakeware, crockery and everything else you'll need to rustle up family suppers to share around the dining table. Another surprise is the private sun-dappled terrace. It calls for barbecues and sundowners in the fresh air, while the shared pasture is perfect for dogs. But our favourite part is by far the decadent bathroom. End the day with a bubble-filled soak in the freestanding tub – a glass of wine in hand – or if you're not one for baths, the rainfall feature in the walk-in shower is just as lush.

Outside, Winchcombe's medieval charms and rolling countryside are begging to be explored. Don your comfiest shoes and set off towards Sudeley Castle or the Cotswold Way – there's a public footpath just off the lane that connects to it – followed by a pint and pub grub at the local taverns in the village. For a change of scenery, Cheltenham, Bourton-on-the-Water and many other chocolate-box Cotswolds villages are within driving distance.

Oozing in medieval character with its sixteenth-century facade and original features throughout, Mercia hides a little secret behind its quirky front. You wouldn't expect it, yet a light-filled and contemporary entertaining space features at the back, with fabulous views of the Isbourne Valley and Sudeley Hill. It opens up to a large patio with seating and a barbecue, followed by a long sloping garden, so you can continue admiring the vistas while something nice is grilling and children play on the lawn. 

There are plenty of cosy spaces to retire to after a day of Cotswold exploration – from the sitting room with a charming inglenook fireplace to an inviting roll-top bathtub in the master suite. Just a twenty-one-minute drive from the bustling city of Cheltenham, this apartment offers a regal base to come home to after a day at the races.

While you could spend all day perusing Sudeley Castle and its ten gorgeous gardens (which you can do as much as you want, with free entry as a guest of the cottage), you’ve got history to discover closer to home. Explore the local area on foot with long country walks along the charming historic paths and lanes of Winchcombe. You'll be spoiled for things to do in this Cotswolds location, from horse riding and cycling to afternoon teas and a good old pub lunch – there truly is something for everyone. But let be known a stay here simply isn't complete without a trip to Sudeley Castle and Gardens, just a ten-minute walk along Vineyard Street. Stop off at one of the stand-out restaurants for lunch and then return home to where understated comfort awaits.

The homeliness mostly comes down to the mix of old and new – find the exposed beams overhead, the brick walls and statement fireplaces, and then sweep your eyes over the glass conservatory and curated art, the furnishings and beautiful colour palette. If you’re looking for a charming retreat in the Cotswolds, then this Grade II-listed cottage could be perfect. There’s a garden with views over the countryside and the neighbouring church. There are also two seating areas – ideal for alfresco meals and drinks. Inside, the cosy sitting room has a log burner, while the conservatory is a great place to read a book. As with many cottages, there’s a steep staircase and many low beams and ceilings. So, this place may not be suitable for taller guests or those with limited mobility. When you want to explore, there’s a pub, shops, and river walks a short stroll away. Or have a drive over to the 15th-century Sudeley Castle.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Dating back to the 17th century, this cottage is perfect for those looking for a slice of idyllic living. Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

A Cotswold Delight

If you fancy waking up to the sound of blackbirds singing in the trees, then this home is for you. This picture-perfect cottage is located in an idyllic corner of the Cotswolds and offers the perfect countryside escape for a large group looking for some fresh air and good times. It dates back to the 1800s, and you'll find plenty of traditional touches reminding you of the building's long history, from the antique dining table and original flagstones to the wooden beams – remember to watch your head. The interior is cosy yet spacious, with room for all your guests to find some peace and quiet, and the outdoor space is equally brilliant. The garden is filled with mature trees and grassy lawns, all enclosed by an ivy-covered drystone wall, making it the ideal spot to enjoy a family barbecue on balmy summer evenings. When you stay at this idyllic Grade-II listed home in the Cotswolds, you’ll be able to relax in the enclosed garden with its picturesque surroundings. There are views of the countryside and borders packed with flowers. Inside, there are two living rooms and a snug, all with open fires – this place is perfect for families or friends. We love the main bedroom’s en-suite, too, with its roll-top bath (one of several). This home is situated just over 2 miles from the village of Toddington with its pub and shop.
