Only a mile from Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, this pocket-sized hideaway is a perfect fit for two. We love how cosy and bright the living space is. Whether you're preparing breakfast in the mint green kitchenette, unwinding with a glass of wine on the comfy sofa or snuggling up in the sumptuous bed adorned with a William Morris duvet, you'll feel right at home here. And the views aren't too shabby, either. In the morning, savour a cup of tea and listen to the birdsong on the private patio, overlooking the tree-lined paddock. Evenings call for charcoal barbecues as the sun goes down, followed by glasses of wine under the stars. 

Ramblers will love this rural spot. Public footpaths lead through the rolling countryside towards the Cotswold Way and along the River Isbourne, and with pubs and restaurants in Winchcombe, you'll have everything you need just a stone's throw away. If it's the magic of the Cotswolds you're after, take an afternoon drive to Bourton-on-the-Water – it's twenty-five minutes away.

Though it's worth noting, it's shared with the two neighbouring cottages, so it isn't the most private of spaces. Ready to stretch your legs? How’s a 15th-century castle that once housed King Charles I and Lady Jane Grey (to name a few) sound for a neighbour? It’s just footsteps away from this charming Cotswolds cottage –⁠ originally part of a paper mill on the vast estate. It’s worth noting there’s only one family bathroom here. And if we were being picky, the outside shared courtyard isn’t the most inspiring space. But with five award-winning gardens and a castle to explore (you’ll have complimentary access), we don’t think you’ll mind. After a little more bustle? The quintessential Cotswolds town of Winchcombe, with its traditional inns and tearooms, is an easy stroll away.

Make sure to discover the fascinating history of the estate, which you’ll have complimentary access to. Once home to King Charles I and his nephew, Prince Rupert, the castle has impressive royal connections. It’s worth noting that the downstairs living space is compact and will feel particularly cosy if you have two dogs in tow. But there’s a decked terrace to spill out onto that you’ll share with another two cottages. Location-wise, Winchcombe, with traditional inns, tearooms and honey stone houses aplenty is just a short amble away.

Located on the Sudeley Castle estate, just a short walk from the castle and its gardens, this quaint eighteenth-century cottage catches the eye with a beautiful Cotswold stone exterior. Positioned on the outskirts of historic Winchcombe, you'll benefit from incredible views of the village as well as easy access to plenty of cafes, shops and restaurants – this is an excellent base from which to explore the Cotswold's outstanding natural beauty. Inside the cottage, a cosy wood-burning stove awaits – perfect for cold nights in – especially after a day spent walking through this idyllic scenery. The country-chic kitchen, dining table for eight and wonderful garden with expansive views are just the icing on the cake. If you'd like a change from the picture-postcard villages, then the charming town of Cheltenham is just eight miles away, while the beautiful cities of Oxford and Bath are a little over an hour's drive.

A Cozy Retreat

Tucked along a tree-lined lane on the outskirts of Winchcombe, this sweet cottage is as cosy as it looks. The red brick exterior exudes a simple country charm, but step inside and you'll be surprised by the sophisticated living space and contemporary comforts.

From the honey-coloured rug to the blue velvet sofa, pops of bold colour are everywhere you look. The roomy kitchen is a dream for home cooks – it's stocked with bakeware, crockery and everything else you'll need to rustle up family suppers to share around the dining table. Another surprise is the private sun-dappled terrace. It calls for barbecues and sundowners in the fresh air, while the shared pasture is perfect for dogs. But our favourite part is by far the decadent bathroom. End the day with a bubble-filled soak in the freestanding tub – a glass of wine in hand – or if you're not one for baths, the rainfall feature in the walk-in shower is just as lush.

Outside, Winchcombe's medieval charms and rolling countryside are begging to be explored. Don your comfiest shoes and set off towards Sudeley Castle or the Cotswold Way – there's a public footpath just off the lane that connects to it – followed by a pint and pub grub at the local taverns in the village. For a change of scenery, Cheltenham, Bourton-on-the-Water and many other chocolate-box Cotswolds villages are within driving distance.

And when it's time to get out and about, you're right on the edge of Winchcombe, with restaurants, shops, and bars just a stroll away, as well as easy access to the area's many breathtaking walking trails. The kitchen and dining areas are perfect for celebrations, with plenty of room for a large group. Outside, you can soak in the hot tub while admiring countryside views, then dine alfresco. Elegant yet charming, this home is a bit special.

Seeing as Sudeley Castle Cottage is right next door, visiting the beautiful castle grounds will be easy, and thanks to your hosts, you'll also get free admission to the castle and its beautiful gardens. Staying in this fairytale cottage offers you a taste of the high life and a gorgeous view of the green rolling hills and unspoiled landscapes. The historical centre of Winchcombe is only a short fifteen-minute walk away as well, which should set you up for at least a few days of sightseeing – there's so much to discover, from chocolate-box buildings to cute-as-button tea rooms. The home itself is furnished with antiques, original paintings, high-quality soft furnishings, and a lovely collection of books chosen by Lady Ashcroft herself – and you'll love curling up with one of them on the comfy armchairs – we especially love the rustic fireplace that keeps things ultra-cosy. But if it's pub grub and local brews you’re after, the nearby inns will set you right.

Set in the heart of Winchcombe, where walking trails will allow you to fully absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings, try the Sudeley Castle Circular for a more leisurely stroll before taking on any of the harder routes. Stop off at one of the stand-out restaurants for lunch and then return home to where understated comfort awaits.

The homeliness mostly comes down to the mix of old and new – find the exposed beams overhead, the brick walls and statement fireplaces, and then sweep your eyes over the glass conservatory and curated art, the furnishings and beautiful colour palette. The entire home has a rustic touch that makes it feel like an elegant farmhouse. 

Pick a spot and get cosy – whether that be in front of the wood-burning stove, in the bright conservatory, or outside where you can enjoy a book and cup of coffee on the manicured lawn.

Accommodating up to seven guests across four bedrooms, one of which sits in a separate annexe, this is sure to be a blissful retreat from the mundane and an idyllic spot for loved ones to spend some quality time with one another, all while maintaining their own bit of privacy. Explore the local area on foot with long country walks along the charming historic paths and lanes of Winchcombe. You'll be spoiled for things to do in this Cotswolds location, from horse riding and cycling to afternoon teas and a good old pub lunch – there truly is something for everyone. But let be known a stay here simply isn't complete without a trip to Sudeley Castle and Gardens, just a ten-minute walk along Vineyard Street. With gourmet restaurants, bakeries and local supermarkets all within walking distance on the high street – it's needless to say convenience is a huge highlight of this gorgeous countryside spot.

Set in Ford, an attractive hamlet along the banks of the River Windrush, this romantic cottage offers the highest levels of charm and comfort for your Cotswolds escape. It’s hidden away within the grounds of the host’s own home, but offers complete privacy. There’s a small but well-equipped galley kitchen with a Nespresso machine and milk frother for a little luxury morning coffee. But our favourite bit is the four-poster, king-size bed which guarantees a luxurious night’s sleep. just what you need after a day tackling some of the best hiking routes in the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds Way runs right by the cottage and walks around Sudeley Castle are just a few miles away.

Country Honey

When you stay at this idyllic Grade-II listed home in the Cotswolds, you’ll be able to relax in the enclosed garden with its picturesque surroundings. There are views of the countryside and borders packed with flowers. Inside, there are two living rooms and a snug, all with open fires – this place is perfect for families or friends. We love the main bedroom’s en-suite, too, with its roll-top bath (one of several). This home is situated just over 2 miles from the village of Toddington with its pub and shop. Or visit nearby Broadway or Cheltenham, just over 10 miles away.

Embodying the true meaning of the quintessential English countryside, this chocolate box thatched cottage offers an enchanting experience to guests seeking a cosy and humbling stay. From the comfy living area and snug room, both featuring crackling fireplaces that'll keep your toes warm after a scenic country walk, to the conservatory and garden – you'll find plenty of space to kick back, relax and enjoy doing absolutely nothing here. The outside area provides the perfect setting for those visiting during the warmer months. Out here, you'll find casual lounge seating, an alfresco dining area and an indulgent hot tub – from which you can watch the stars all year round. 

Located within walking distance from a pub and village shop, Cheltenham is also just a short drive away when you seek a more built-up town centre. A fabulous base for exploring the North Cotswolds, this spot in Gotherington offers a wonderful country escape to families or large groups of friends looking to get away from the stresses of the daily grind.

With its coastal-inspired colour scheme, sumptuous furnishings and suntrap patio, this cosy cottage in the quiet Cotswold village of Alderton is a real home from home. Begin mornings with a cooked breakfast in the bright dining room before throwing open the patio doors and bowling out into the garden for lawn games in the warm sunshine. Enjoy cream tea on the patio or if the sky turns grey, bring it inside and curl up on the L-shaped couch in the inviting living space – we loved warming our toes in front of the wood-burner when the temperature dropped.

Take advantage of balmy days with a stroll through the endless countryside that surrounds your home – there are two circular walks close by, including a 5.5-mile ramble from Alderton to Dumbleton and back. Or why not jump in the car and explore the Regency town of Cheltenham? It’s only a twenty-minute drive away. What better way to end another idyllic afternoon in the Cotswolds than with some pub grub and a glass of rosé at the Gardeners’ Arms, just a five-minute stroll from your doorstep.

This estate consists of four properties ranging from the grand Manor house to a small barn conversion. Each one has been lovingly designed and posses its own unique charm. Guests looking to share these properties will enjoy hopping to each house and discovering their hidden gems – it could be a hot tub, swimming pool, secret garden, children’s woodland playground, boating lake or even a tennis court. 

Golden Knights

If you fancy waking up to the sound of blackbirds singing in the trees, then this home is for you. This picture-perfect cottage is located in an idyllic corner of the Cotswolds and offers the perfect countryside escape for a large group looking for some fresh air and good times. It dates back to the 1800s, and you'll find plenty of traditional touches reminding you of the building's long history, from the antique dining table and original flagstones to the wooden beams – remember to watch your head. The interior is cosy yet spacious, with room for all your guests to find some peace and quiet, and the outdoor space is equally brilliant. The garden is filled with mature trees and grassy lawns, all enclosed by an ivy-covered drystone wall, making it the ideal spot to enjoy a family barbecue on balmy summer evenings. There are several lovely walks and cycling trails in the area, which take you through the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Stow-on-the-Wold is just a seven-mile drive away, and Sudeley Castle is five miles away, so you're within easy reach of some of the area's most charming attractions.

Gather your nearest and dearest for a comfortable stay at this retreat in Gloucestershire. Boasting contemporary interiors and views of the Cotswolds Hills, you'll feel instantly at home here. There's a large kitchen, perfect for family dinners, as well as an alfresco dining space in the garden – backdropped by rural scenery, of course. The only niggle is that there's only one full bathroom, which may not suit every group. When you're ready to head out, you'll find Cheltenham just 4 miles away, while Tewkesbury, Broadway, and other Cotswolds gems are within driving distance.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

With one home dating back to the arts and crafts movement, and another boasting a listed status, these elegantly styled homes ooze period charm. Spill out into the large open plan living space of the main house (with three bedrooms) and cook up a hearty feast – there’s room for each and every one of you (and a few extra guests) around that magnificent banquet table. Of course in this historic place, there would have to be some original features to admire in the home. Our favourites are the Georgian sash windows, ornate ceiling rose, and green tiled fireplace. Imagine cosying up around this striking hearth with a glass of pinot noir in hand – bliss. Another excellent spot to enjoy sipping wine would be in the freestanding bathtub, just for an extra feeling of spa-like luxury. In the morning, after a cup of Earl Grey, hop in the car and explore the Cotswolds half an hour away. Or if you’re looking for a more local green space, Montpellier Gardens are just a seven-minute walk from home.

Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.
