Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, too.

With so much to discover about the rich history and nature of Kent, it would make sense to base yourself in a somewhat historic setting. A twelve-minute walk from Martin Mill train station, in a tiny village of the same name, this home is not only ideal for history buffs, but anyone who is a fan of a tipple. Built in 1610, this traditional boozer hosts locals every evening, but can also play host to four guests in its private apartment. Above this working pub, pick up a pint of English ale to sample before making your way around this striking abode. Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

This charming home was once a favourite pub for weary fishermen at the end of their shift, right on the pebbles of Kingsdown Beach. If you fancy a real ale or cold pint after a day on the beach, don’t worry, the current local pub is just two doors down. If you want a bit more choice, head to the seafood restaurants and swanky bars of Deal, an hour’s walk along the seaside promenade, or an eight-minute drive.

The home itself is packed with little treats and surprises. There’s the beachside garden out the back, where you can pad barefoot from the outdoor dining terrace straight onto the shingle of Kingsdown Beach for a paddle in the sea. Then there’s the secret sauna, tucked down an old alleyway. The pretty little sunroom is furnished with floral armchairs and a vintage-style radio to listen to the Shipping Forecast while gazing out to sea. We love the kitchen and living room, which is packed with vintage pieces and has the air of an old fisherman’s cottage. Poking about through the extensive vinyl collection and browsing the cookbooks is a particular delight.

Set along a row of pastel-coloured terraced houses, this unique space was once an Ale House, and thanks to its Grade II-listed status, it has maintained plenty of its original features including exposed brick chimney breasts, beamed ceilings and a charming façade with gold leaf signage. Inside, a quirky layout awaits with two separate buildings connected by a central courtyard and a Moroccan-tiled hallway, with two bedrooms in the main house and the living area and a further bedroom in the mezzanine building. It’s a brilliant home for families as the kids will love the multiple levels, the playful attic bedroom and the comfy sofas to curl up on for movie nights. Take them back home for a beautiful spread out in the fabulously decorated courtyard, feeling the morning sun on your face as you sip your fresh coffee. You could take the short fifteen-minute walk to Deal Castle before eating classic fish and chips on the beach. Dine out there when the weather plays ball, and when it doesn’t, you can always kindle a fire and play board games or watch a movie together. 

There’s a number of boutique shops and cafes around to explore when you’re out and about, and with the local pub only a stone’s throw away, you can swing by on most days for a lunch and a pint.

We'd describe the aesthetic as contemporary coastal – rattan lighting fixtures, leafy houseplants and plush furnishings bring a beachy bohemian air, while the sleek kitchen and crisp, clean lines are elegant and modern. After a long day on the coast, snuggle up in front of the electric fire for a cosy night at home. If you're in the mood to cook, the blue and yellow kitchen has everything you'll need, so let your culinary skills run wild. On sunny days, enjoy your feast in the garden, which is shielded from the main house by clever bamboo screens. There's even a desk in the bedroom if you need to do some remote working. But our favourite part is the location – you're just a fifteen-minute walk from Deal Castle Beach and the wonderful Kent coastline. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many seaside restaurants, shop the local boutiques, browse the many art galleries and enjoy a romp around Deal Castle. With the rest of the White Cliffs Country easily accessed by car, it's the ideal spot for a romantic retreat by the sea.

Nestled between Dover and Ramsgate on the Kent coastline, Deal is often overlooked – but it’s the getaway destination of choice for those in the know. Despite its emerging artsy identity, Deal hasn’t lost its seaside charm. You’ll find amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and a Saturday market that has existed since 1699. This period property was built in the style of a South African homestead, so if you’re a fan of unusual features and are looking for a sizeable home, this one’s for you. The ground-floor annex is perfect for grandparents, and the children’s playroom and enclosed garden ensure that kids will love it too. With just four bathrooms for a large group, you might find yourself waiting a while in the mornings – and the bathrooms are showing some signs of wear and tear. This is a lived-in – and loved – family home, so it won’t suit everyone’s tastes. The pebble beach of Sandwich Bay is just 0.2 miles away though, and golfers will enjoy being so close to two golf courses.

Nestled into the vast Kent countryside, this whitewashed cottage is every bit as wholesome as you'd want from a country getaway. With beautiful gardens, an original fireplace, and farmhouse-style furniture, it's the perfect place to recharge. This home isn't without its mod-cons though, with underfloor heating, a coffee machine, and fast wifi, there's everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We love how sociable this home is – the ideal setting for a family getaway or a group of friends to reunite. Cosy armchairs provide the perfect spot for late-night catch-ups, a lovely dining table is fitting for dinners, drinks, and board games, while the kitchen is big enough for everyone to pitch in when preparing meals. And while we love the cottage's warm and comforting interior, the gardens really make this home sing. There's more than enough space for the little ones to run around while the grown-ups refresh the jug of Pimms and work on the barbecue. There's even space for a friendly game of rounders. 

If you're up early enough, you can catch an incredible sunrise from the front garden. But if not (you're on holiday after all), pull up a seat in the back garden for the most wonderful sunset, with whirling shades of pink and orange sinking into the Kent countryside. 

This is a really beautiful area. The quaint town of Sandwich is just a ten-minute drive away and is widely considered one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Head to Sandwich Bay for windy walks on the beach, before tucking into some traditional fish and chips.

Carefully and creatively decorated, this home in Deal is, well, kind of a big deal. Not only is it close to the seafront, beach and pier but it’s got a private  south-facing garden complete with subtropical plants and two seating areas to enjoy. Its indoors are just as tempting too with plenty of bespoke details, including heritage paint, a terrazzo worktop in the kitchen, a cosy wood burner and underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty all year round.   In this eco-conscious household all hand washes and shower gels are refillable, natural and organic. Little ones will enjoy sharing the bunk beds in the third bedroom, while we’re certain grow-ups will relish a soak in the tub – perhaps with a glass of wine – after a busy day spent on the coast.

Tucked away at the end of a bridleway, this charming converted barn offers an idyllic romantic getaway within easy reach of Kent’s stunning coastline. 

Surrounded by a beautiful leafy garden, you’ll feel perfectly secluded as you enjoy sunny breakfasts at the outdoor table or celebratory sundowners as the breeze carries birdsong and the perfume of flowers all around you. Spend afternoons hanging out in the hammock by the pond or settle yourself onto one of the deck chairs to catch some rays with your holiday read. 

Cooler evenings call for snuggling up on the sofa by the living room’s wood-burning fireplace with a glass of wine and gathering for an intimate meal under the cross-beamed ceiling when you’re not out sampling the seafood fare in one of the neighbouring coastal towns. 

We love the pieces of art here created by local painters, and we can’t imagine anything dreamier than taking a long soak in the bathroom’s freestanding tub. 

And when you can bear to tear yourself away from your bolthole hideaway, you’ll find all the seaside delights of Sandwich Bay and Deal just a short drive away.

Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

This striking 18th century mansion provides the perfect setting for a large family gathering or to celebrate a special occasion. We love how the rooms have a modern touch to them while simultaneously paying homage to their past. Most of the bedrooms have an ensuite and look out over the beautiful gardens, which have lots of different parts to them – perfect for a game of hide and seek. If you fancy exploring the surroundings, both the coast and the historical pilgrimage site of Canterbury are about half an hour’s drive away.

Your coastal country break starts at this converted flint stone barn, a ten-minute walk from the beach. With its own heated pool in the summer and a games room as well-equipped as the kitchen, there's more than enough space here for extended families and large groups of friends. The home's rustic charm has been retained in the exposed brick and wooden beams, while the log burner is just oh-so inviting for cosy evenings indoors. Furry friends are welcome to join you for a fee, and you'll find plenty of scenic walks nearby. Not to mention the golf club, local pubs and shops, and sandy coast of Kingsdown village are easily reached on foot.

Have you ever had a bath under the watchful eye of an albino lioness? Well, us neither, but that's about to change because we can't wait to book a stay at this outlandish beachside home. Once inside you'll find it hard to believe this was once a 19th-century fisherman's cottage - the owners have done an extraordinary job transforming in into an East London-style design palace with statement House of Hackney-style wallpaper, taxidermy animals, sculptural lighting and artwork that you'd expect to see in the Saatchi Gallery (we're talking Tracy Emin and Peter Blake originals). But for all the provocative design choices, this home is wonderfully liveable - style has certainly not been prioritised over comfort. In the bedrooms, King-sized beds are perfected with exceptional Egyptian cotton bedding. In the living room, we loved the butter softness of the velvet sofas - they're an absolute dream to relax on. And that zinc bathtub next to the lioness guarantees the most luxurious - and memorable - soak of your life. With so much going on inside it's easy to forget that this home has an unrivalled location right on the beach at Kingsdown (the sea views from the master bedroom are divine), but for an unforgettable beach escape, this dramatic home is impossible to beat.

Tucked on a quiet side street just off the main promenade in Deal, this charming home has a cosy cottage feel while boasting an unbeatable location. The living room is the heart of the house, with its rustic brickwork hearth and a wood-burning stove to spend cosy nights curled up next to. The wooden dining area leads through to the kitchen, and out into an enclosed garden. Here you’ll find a table for alfresco dining in the summer months and a deck chair where you can soak up the sunshine on balmy spring evenings. 

The bedrooms, meanwhile, have characterful nautical touches that echo the neighbouring sea, while the family bathroom is a luxurious space with its rainfall shower and gorgeous freestanding tub – the ideal way to unwind in the evening (a glass of bubbly in hand) after an exciting day by the coast. 

Speaking of venturing out, Deal Seafront and Pier are a stone's throw away, while the nearby High Street invites you to explore its independent boutiques and quirky shops, before stopping in at a local deli or cafe for a bite to eat. Deal Castle is also a short stroll away – built in the shape of a Tudor Rose it's well worth a visit for its rich history and sea views.
