If you're looking to get away from it all, this home is in the ideal spot. All on the ground floor, it's set in a wing of a Grade II listed Palladian Villa and surrounded by 200 acres of unspoilt parkland. Originally built in the 1930s for use during the shooting season, the main part of this impressive house is now a family home. Beautiful arched windows let the sunlight stream into the spacious living room and offer views out over the grounds. 

Step straight from your door to explore the woodland, meadows and lakes of this vast estate – and if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of deers, badgers, otters and all kinds of birdlife. Or enjoy a few games of tennis on the owner's outdoor court. 

It's only a four-minute drive to the nearest pub, or it's a fifteen-minute ride to the delightful coastal town of Cromer with its pier walk, crabbing, and fish and chips by the shore. By day you can explore the area's sandy beaches, walk the Norfolk Coastal Path or discover the National Trust properties of Felbrigg Hall and the Blickling Estate (a ten and twenty-minute drive, respectively).

Inside, this ground-floor regency home makes quite the first impression with its soaring ceilings and magnificent bay windows flooding the elegant living room with afternoon sunlight.

A perfect seaside nest for two, the roll-top bath is a delight for a pre-dinner soak – as is the elegant bedroom with one hug of a king-sized bed. And while there’s no outdoor space to speak of, we don’t think you’ll grumble with the beach this close.

If you can tear your eyes away from the view, that is. From the moment you sweep into the private grounds of this flint-clad Norfolk farmhouse set just a short walk from the beach, you know this isn’t going to be your average coastal bolthole. Dating back to the 1600s and surrounded by three acres of fairytale-esque gardens, this is a home for all ten of you (and your furry friends) to pile in and start living the seaside dream in serious style.

In the summer months, pad out onto the elegant terrace to catch the golden hour sun with a tipple or two. Kids can run amuck on the vast lawns with a kickabout, game of badminton, or search out the garden basket swing, all under your watchful eye. Then head back indoors to cook up a feast in the shaker-style kitchen. There’s a grand dining room if you fancy rolling out the red carpet or keep things casual and alfresco on the veranda.

Enjoy long walks along the nearby cliff tops (a ten-minute walk) in the winter months. Then hunker down beside the fire with a post-walk cuppa. In need of some peace and quiet? We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Quaint and cosy, this old shoemaker's cottage in the heart of Cromer is a perfect seaside retreat for two. It's just a two-minute walk from Cromer Beach and the Victorian pier, making it a top-notch spot for couples to unwind. 

Inside, the home hasn't lost any of its traditional charm, thanks to the wooden floors, timber beams and vintage furniture. Lighthouses and wooden shoes line the shelves, paying homage to the cottage’s excellent seaside location as well as its history. Don't you just love a garden with a sea view? Even better, this charming semi-detached cottage is next to a lighthouse, built in 1833. There's no need to worry – the lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be jumping whenever it's misty (though it does need regular maintenance, so staff may visit during your stay). Even inside, you can admire the vistas of the lighthouse, sea and neighbouring golf course (yes, you heard that right, golf lovers). If you prefer the beach, Cromer, with its traditional pier and colourful beach huts, is a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path.

The Naval Captain

As you walk into the main living area of this Grade-II listed townhouse, we're pretty sure that it'll be the view out of the window that first grabs your attention. From this excellent vantage point, you can see the windswept sea and sands of Cromer Beach stretching on for miles. However, when you manage to finally prise yourself away from this panorama, you'll notice that the home's interior is pretty impressive, too. Neutral walls and floors in washed-out shades lend the feel of a beach hut, but the decor is livened up by several knowingly retro touches, such as the brown leather dining chairs and the burnt orange fridge. There might be squabbles as to who gets one of the two four-poster beds, but the other bedrooms are just as tastefully appointed. As you can probably infer from the view, the beach and pier don't take long to reach — about three minutes on foot to be precise — while you can also get to Felbrigg Hall and Gardens in six minutes by car.

Even leaving aside the large capacity, this home is definitely geared towards family gatherings. The open-concept living-dining-kitchen area on the ground floor feels innately sociable and the addition of a foosball table is sure to see things get competitive at one point or another.

Outside, the alfresco seating on the terrace is ideal for languourous summer suppers, while the hot tub is another option in which to sit around and shoot the breeze. Add to that a lawn big enough for games, and you can see where the warmer months will be spent here.

That's when you're actually at the address, of course. With the wealth of distractions nearby, you might find you're away from the home more than you envisioned. The town of Cromer and its beach take no more than five minutes to reach in the car. In the other direction, Felbrigg Hall and Gardens can be reached in a similar amount of time.

Plus, you’re ideally positioned for walking and cycling, and nearby Cromer Beach is just a short way away, offering entertainment for all ages. Guests keen on doing some shopping or in search of delicious food should head to Norwich for its many excellent restaurants, boutique shops and theatres, a short drive or an easy train ride away.

We didn't realise, you know, how many films have used Cromer as a film location – there are quite a few, so it's somewhat fitting that this home has its own cinema room with a huge flat-screen television. The kids will be delighted as there's also a games console to enjoy. 

We love the living room with its exposed brick walls, theatrical coloured lights and the large kitchen, which opens out onto the garden. Sip a cup of coffee or glass of wine here on warm evenings.

Then, head into Cromer for a meal at one of its many eateries. It’s no wonder this resort is a favourite with families – take a stroll down the pier and see the end-of-pier show (the only remaining one in the UK). There’s certainly plenty to do in this town – of course, there are the beaches and surfing hot spots, as well as the Amazona Zoo, the Cromer Museum and mini golf course. 

A bit further afield,  the vibrant town of Holt is around a twenty-minute drive away, while the 'capital of The Norfolk Broads', Wroxham, is around thirty-five minutes in the car. Norwich, on the other hand, can be reached in approximately forty minutes.

If the sun makes a regular appearance during your stay, the town's pier, esplanade and beach can all be reached in under ten minutes on foot, while Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate take a similar amount of time to reach in the car.

Burning Love

This three-bedroom cottage in West Runton, a quaint village on the North Norfolk coast, offers an idyllic retreat for family and friends at any time of the year. In colder months, cosy up on the sofa beside the log fire and cook hearty meals in the fully-equipped kitchen. On sunny days, sit out in the garden or pack a picnic to take to the local blue-flag beach, just fifteen minutes’ walk away. There are three large bedrooms, one of which has patio doors leading out to the garden, and two bathrooms with rainfall showers (one over a bath). Days out can be spent walking the Norfolk Coastal Path or visiting the nearby seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer - be sure to try some of the latter's famous crab while you’re there. Be sure to read up about the West Runton Elephant before your visit - the fossilized mammoth skeleton was discovered in the beach cliffs in 1990.

The Happy Valley walking trail is located just moments away from the home and takes you through the woods, along the coast, and down to the water's edge. Cromer Beach is only a ten-minute walk away, and keen golfers will also delight in the fact that you can walk to the Royal Cromer Golf Club in five minutes.

There’s nothing better for blowing away the cobwebs than a bracing walk along the seafront. This cosy home in Cromer makes for a fantastic base for a family seaside visit. It’s within easy walking distance of the sea, beach and Cromer Pier, so make sure you bring your bucket and spade. If the water isn’t too chilly, you can paddle and skim stones as you walk along the coast, before picking up a parcel of piping-hot fish and chips. Eat them from the paper as you take in the sea views and the pretty coloured beach huts – this is a lovely spot. 

Back at the house, you can look forward to spending your evenings curled up in front of the log-burning fire on colder evenings, and out in the garden when the weather is warm. There are two sitting rooms here, which is ideal when you’re travelling with a couple of families. Set the little ones up in front of a film, and sit back to relax with the grown-ups. The sunny courtyard garden is a delightful spot for a sundowner and an alfresco takeaway dinner.

Calling all seaside explorers – this one is for you. Perched in the sought-after village of Thorpe Market with four of North Norfolk’s finest beaches just a ten-minute drive away, the location of this flint period cottage is unbeatable. 

Pack up your buckets and spades and get off to a flying start in Cromer for days of picnicking, kite flying, and sandcastle building. When tummies start to rumble, there are fish and chip shops for supper on the beach. The nearby gastro pub (three-minute drive or twenty-minute walk) will do very nicely for something more upper-crust. Or head home for a barbecue in your suntrap garden – you can always swing by the local farm shop (a two-minute drive) to pick up supplies.

Inside, this charming home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday, including your furry friends. Upstairs there are immaculate, clutter-free bedrooms. While back downstairs, the large farmhouse kitchen table is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day of exploring. And after long, bracing walks in the countryside in the winter months, there’s an obligatory log-burner fire to curl up beside in the storybook armchair.
