Inside, this ground-floor regency home makes quite the first impression with its soaring ceilings and magnificent bay windows flooding the elegant living room with afternoon sunlight.

A perfect seaside nest for two, the roll-top bath is a delight for a pre-dinner soak – as is the elegant bedroom with one hug of a king-sized bed. And while there’s no outdoor space to speak of, we don’t think you’ll grumble with the beach this close.

With just a five-minute hop, skip, and a jump, you’ll be on its sandy shores – or perhaps a smidge longer with a pitstop at the cliff-top café along the way to grab coffee and pastries to go. For something a little heartier, the village pub won’t disappoint, neither will the 19th-century Sea Marge restaurant with lawns leading down to the sea. Then all that’s left to do is head for the beach for bracing walks that go on for miles. Or hop on a boat and explore the Broads – it’s like a trip back in time.

There's no need to worry – the lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be jumping whenever it's misty (though it does need regular maintenance, so staff may visit during your stay). Even inside, you can admire the vistas of the lighthouse, sea and neighbouring golf course (yes, you heard that right, golf lovers). If you prefer the beach, Cromer, with its traditional pier and colourful beach huts, is a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path.

As you'd expect from a lighthouse cottage (built in 1680), this home has sea views from the private garden and the living space. We love that the bedroom has been formed from the circular base of the lighthouse tower (though the bathroom is back up the stairs off the living room). And the good news is this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so you won't be woken in the middle of the night. When you feel like exploring, a ten-minute stroll along the coastal path will take you to the North Norfolk town of Cromer, with its sandy beach and an array of shops and restaurants. Or for golf lovers, adjacent to the lighthouse is a golf course.

Sea Salt Harmony

Quaint and cosy, this old shoemaker's cottage in the heart of Cromer is a perfect seaside retreat for two. It's just a two-minute walk from Cromer Beach and the Victorian pier, making it a top-notch spot for couples to unwind. 

Inside, the home hasn't lost any of its traditional charm, thanks to the wooden floors, timber beams and vintage furniture. The lovely pier is ten minutes away on foot, and you’re within easy reach of pubs, restaurants, and shops too. Cromer may be a seaside resort, but it’s popular year-round, and it’s easy to see why. 

In addition to boasting an excellent location right in the thick of things, this home has plenty of charm. It’s bright and stylish while still feeling oh-so-welcoming – it’s a real home from home. As you walk into the main living area of this Grade-II listed townhouse, we're pretty sure that it'll be the view out of the window that first grabs your attention. From this excellent vantage point, you can see the windswept sea and sands of Cromer Beach stretching on for miles. However, when you manage to finally prise yourself away from this panorama, you'll notice that the home's interior is pretty impressive, too. Neutral walls and floors in washed-out shades lend the feel of a beach hut, but the decor is livened up by several knowingly retro touches, such as the brown leather dining chairs and the burnt orange fridge. There might be squabbles as to who gets one of the two four-poster beds, but the other bedrooms are just as tastefully appointed. As you can probably infer from the view, the beach and pier don't take long to reach — about three minutes on foot to be precise — while you can also get to Felbrigg Hall and Gardens in six minutes by car.

Even leaving aside the large capacity, this home is definitely geared towards family gatherings. The open-concept living-dining-kitchen area on the ground floor feels innately sociable and the addition of a foosball table is sure to see things get competitive at one point or another.

We didn't realise, you know, how many films have used Cromer as a film location – there are quite a few, so it's somewhat fitting that this home has its own cinema room with a huge flat-screen television. The kids will be delighted as there's also a games console to enjoy. 

We love the living room with its exposed brick walls, theatrical coloured lights and the large kitchen, which opens out onto the garden. Sip a cup of coffee or glass of wine here on warm evenings.

Then, head into Cromer for a meal at one of its many eateries. It’s no wonder this resort is a favourite with families – take a stroll down the pier and see the end-of-pier show (the only remaining one in the UK). There’s certainly plenty to do in this town – of course, there are the beaches and surfing hot spots, as well as the Amazona Zoo, the Cromer Museum and mini golf course. 

A bit further afield,  the vibrant town of Holt is around a twenty-minute drive away, while the 'capital of The Norfolk Broads', Wroxham, is around thirty-five minutes in the car. Norwich, on the other hand, can be reached in approximately forty minutes.

In colder months, cosy up on the sofa beside the log fire and cook hearty meals in the fully-equipped kitchen. On sunny days, sit out in the garden or pack a picnic to take to the local blue-flag beach, just fifteen minutes’ walk away. There are three large bedrooms, one of which has patio doors leading out to the garden, and two bathrooms with rainfall showers (one over a bath). Days out can be spent walking the Norfolk Coastal Path or visiting the nearby seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer - be sure to try some of the latter's famous crab while you’re there. The village itself has several pubs, restaurants and shops, as well as a links golf course. Be sure to read up about the West Runton Elephant before your visit - the fossilized mammoth skeleton was discovered in the beach cliffs in 1990.

What's not to love about this coastal cottage? It sits on an acre of tree-lined gardens, with a natural brook running straight through the grounds. Just over the footbridge lies West Runton Common, where shops, pubs, a National Trust property and the sea are all within walking distance. It's a mere sixteen-minute stroll to the sandy beach and a nine-minute drive to Cromer – as far as locations go, you couldn't ask for better.

Inside, personal touches are everywhere, from the welcome hamper full of local goodies to the Alexa speakers with Spotify in every room. The heart of the home is the fully-stocked modern kitchen – we think it's a dream to cook in, especially with a glass of wine in hand, and the eight-seater dining table calls for family dinners and free-flowing conversation. While barbecues and cocktail hours in the garden are a must-do during the warmer months, we think there's no cosier spot to relax than the garden room. In the summer, the rain-sensitive electric roof slides open to reveal blue skies and refreshing sea air, while the open firebox and leather sofa are perfect for snuggling up in the winter.

Pack up your buckets and spades and get off to a flying start in Cromer for days of picnicking, kite flying, and sandcastle building. When tummies start to rumble, there are fish and chip shops for supper on the beach. The nearby gastro pub (three-minute drive or twenty-minute walk) will do very nicely for something more upper-crust. Or head home for a barbecue in your suntrap garden – you can always swing by the local farm shop (a two-minute drive) to pick up supplies.

Inside, this charming home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday, including your furry friends. Upstairs there are immaculate, clutter-free bedrooms. While back downstairs, the large farmhouse kitchen table is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day of exploring. And after long, bracing walks in the countryside in the winter months, there’s an obligatory log-burner fire to curl up beside in the storybook armchair.

Spend your days exploring the area's many sandy beaches, hunt for Cromer's famous crabs or explore the National Trust land at West Runton and Beeston Regis Heath.
