Located a stone's throw from the famous Fleece Inn, this delightful cottage is the definitive answer to that longing we get when driving past all those charming thatched roofs in the Cotswolds (though it's actually just over the border in Worcestershire). Your hosts have worked tirelessly to deliver interiors that feel both modern and historically charming at once – the greatest example of which being the upstairs bedrooms. Both are tucked under beams and eaves but still maintain an atmosphere of luxury through high-quality bedding and furniture. Start your day by tucking into breakfast in the bright conservatory before heading off to explore nearby villages – picturesque Chipping Campden is a twelve-minute drive away, while Bourton-on-the-Water is half an hour away. If cooking during your country break is not on the cards, the Fleece Inn is steps away and serves traditional English favourites, or you could arrange a private chef through your hosts. Then, at the end of a long day, return home to enjoy a quiet night in by the TV or watch the sun go down from the cushioned window seat.

In the quaint, countryside village of Bretforton, some of its ancient buildings and farmsteads have been owned by the same family for the last two-hundred and fifty years. Incredibly, this cottage on the corner dates all the back to the 17th century, exuding historic charm from every nook and cranny. While the home is less than 5 miles from the town of Evesham, and just over an hour from the metropolis of Birmingham, it’s a world away from modern life. A traditional timber-framed exterior welcomes you to the past as you approach the olive-green front door. Inside, you’ll find yet more original elements with impressive 21st-century updates. We love the inglenook where the fireplace would have sat – now you can sit here instead, as you sip Earl Grey in this cosy sofa alcove. Timber beams on the ceilings, exposed brickwork, and a narrow staircase create a fairytale cottage vibe, but fancy features like Bluetooth speakers in the bathroom mirror bring you back to the present day. Outside, you might fancy a barbecue on the patio with a chilled glass of champagne. Or if you’d rather have a picnic on the lawn, don’t forget to pick fresh apples from your tree.

It's also the perfect spot to do a bit of stargazing when the night skies are clear and full of sparkling diamonds. Beautiful bi-fold doors provide plenty of light inside this single-level barn, which was once a grain store. We love the gorgeous stone floor and exposed wooden roof beams framing the high ceiling. A fresh colour scheme of pale cream, yellows and greys complement the rustic yet stylish design. If you can tear yourself away from this love nest, there's plenty to explore. Go for a walk to the historic riverside village of Bidford-on-Avon, sixteen minutes on foot, where you'll find an array of charming pubs, restaurants, shops, and a picturesque church built in 1250. Or visit Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, around a twenty-five-minute drive, while stunning Warwick Castle is a few minutes more in the car. The magnificent Cotswolds are on your doorstep too – Hidcote Manor Garden, near Chipping Campden, just over a fifteen-minute ride, which has one of Britain's most influential Arts and Crafts gardens.

Enjoy a cosy stay at this cottage in Mickleton. You're just a stone's throw from the Cotswolds Way, so set off on an afternoon amble, finishing at one of the two village pubs. Chipping Campden, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Warwick are also within driving distance and make great options for day trips. The house dates back to the 19th century but has been given a modern makeover. We love the contemporary kitchen, leading onto a small garden outside which is ideal for alfresco dinner and drinks. Still, there are plenty of traditional touches to admire here, especially the stone hearth (complete with a wood burner) and rustic wooden beams in the lounge.

Located in the heart of Chipping Campden, this 17th-century cottage is the perfect base for discovering the Cotswolds. With plenty of walks on your doorstep, the beautiful countryside can be easily explored on foot. After a long day hiking, the patio keeps outdoor living comfortable, while the log burner ensures things stay cosy during colder months. This is a typical cottage – spread over three floors, with low ceilings and beams, so may not be the best option for those who may struggle with stairs. Just a fifteen-minute drive from Moreton Marsh train station, which has good transport links to London and Oxford – so you can have the best of both worlds.

There's something to satisfy everyone's wanderlust at this charming period cottage nestled right in the beating heart of Chipping Campden. This is your gateway to the best of the Cotswolds – Market Hall, The Spa at Cotswold House and Chipping Campden's bustling high street are all within walking distance. And when it's time to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be in the chocolate-box villages of Bourton-on-the Water and Stow-on-the-Wold in fifteen minutes flat. 

Back at this cosy home away from home, exposed Cotswold stone walls, higgledy-piggledy beams and a crackling wood-burning stove bring all the charm. While we liked the comfortable bedrooms and sparkling bathrooms, what really blew us away was the impressive kitchen and dining area. It's the true hub of the home, with plenty of room to cook and dine together. We can easily imagine mornings here, the French doors open wide as you sip coffee on the patio and tuck into a lazy breakfast around the dining table. We also loved the techy extras, like nest heating, electronic locks and Google Home Bluetooth speakers. With the occasional bleat from the neighbouring sheep your only distraction, it doesn't get much more charming than this.

A true recipient of the Plum Award, this home has also received the Green Tourism Silver Award, in recognition of this host's dedication to green initiatives such as energy and water efficiency and mindful waste reduction. Your host can share recommendations on local farmers markets and shops selling locally-sourced food, as well as eco-friendly activities such as cycling routes and nature trails to help you enjoy your stay in Chipping Campden, all the while reducing your carbon footprint. Set in the village of Laverton, this home promises a relaxing rural retreat. Ideal for a family, there’s plenty of space here with a charming garden and room to spread out across three floors, with whoever bags the bedroom stretching across the entire top floor able to enjoy the sweeping vistas. Sure, you have to climb a fairly steep staircase to reach the room and you’ll need to watch your head on the sloping ceilings, but we think it’s worth it for the sunsets over Bredon Hill alone.

Recently restored throughout, while lofty exposed oak beams and honey Cotswold stone walls remain to tell of the lodge’s rich heritage, everywhere else is beautifully reimagined for luxurious modern living. Upstairs, on the first floor, you’ll find one hug of a king-sized bed feathered in quality Egyptian Cotton awaiting in the two serene double bedrooms and a luxurious rolltop bath for post-hike evening soaks. While up into the eaves on the top floor, you'll find a characterful third bedroom with twin beds that would perfectly suit children or friends sharing. 

But it’s back downstairs in the expertly extended living areas where we think you’ll spend most of your time together. Hunker down in the cosy lounge for board games and catch-ups. Previously a home for silk mill workers, we loved how homely the space is – start a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace (made with local stone, no less) and relax after a long hike or a short stroll through the local village. Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

Welcome to this beautiful 17th-century Cotswold cottage in the pretty village of Ebrington. This place is brimming with original features and some more modern additions, including the all-important wood-burning stove and a slipper bath. The house gets its name from the original water pump in the front garden, while out back, there's a deck with a sofa – perfect for an alfresco drink. We also love the secret garden room ideal for remote working (note it's not available to use during the winter months). It's just 2 miles to Hidcote Manor – a National Trust property – while the quintessential Cotswold village of Broadway is 8 miles away. Or, there's a highly regarded village pub a two-minute stroll from your door – perfect after a walk around the countryside.
