It's the perfect place for pre-theatre drinks or a wee dram at the end of the night. You may even be lucky enough to see one of the fireworks displays light up the sky around the castle.

Inside, it's been freshly renovated by one of Scotland's leading interior designers. A lot of attention to detail has been lavished on this home. We adore the custom wallpaper, designer accessories, plush velvet seating and drapes, as well as the contemporary artworks by Scottish and New York artists. All in all, this creates a sumptuous, five-star boutique suite feel. There’s even a secret extra outdoor room furnished with tartan throws and puffin cushions – the ideal spot for reading a book.

The location is as impressive as this apartment. Sitting within one of Edinburgh's many Georgian buildings, this loft apartment doesn't have the period features you might expect from the handsome exterior, but it's still easy on the eye nevertheless. Ideally, it could do with another bathroom, but that's nitpicking really. One thing we especially like is that the neighbourhood is a little more residential than the touristy centre, but you're still within walking distance of many of the city's attractions – the castle and old town are both around half an hour's walk, for instance.

In a lovely part of Stockbridge with plenty of shops and cafes just a short walk away, this townhouse feels like an excellent family home. The living room benefits from a big bay window and high ceilings, but is made to feel innately snug thanks to tartan chairs and faux-fur throws. The kitchen is remarkable in an entirely different way, with loads of space and a pretty professional set-up meaning it will appeal to any budding chef. Elsewhere, we like the stained glass windows in the bathroom inspired perhaps inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh — let's not go into his Glaswegian connection here — as well as the pleasantly landscaped garden with seating should the sunshine break through the clouds during your stay. If it doesn't, that's no bother because there's plenty to do nearby — the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is just over a quarter of an hour walk away, while the equally close by streets of Dean Village are a treat to wander about.

With this Buckstone cottage, you get the best of both worlds. Edinburgh city centre and all its landmarks are only a twenty-minute drive away, but you'll have excellent walks, the Seven Hills viewpoint, and leafy parks practically on your doorstep. Better still, a private front garden here will surely be a hit when the sun is out. It's the perfect spot to wind down in the evenings, though the light-filled living area is also a fine place to relax. The bedrooms are a little snug, but we think it does the job for a laid-back stay on the outskirts of the city.

The bus stop is two minutes away, and it takes just nineteen minutes to reach Princes Street. From there you can explore Edinburgh’s Old and New Town, visiting galleries and shopping. There’s plenty to see and do closer to home too, with the Saughton Rose Gardens a seven-minute walk away, and the Water of Leith eight minutes away on foot. Sports fans will enjoy the proximity to Tynecastle – home of the Hearts – and easy access to Murrayfield.

It's quite fitting that this elegant studio apartment with its beautiful painted mural is close to the Scottish National Gallery and Scottish Gallery of Modern Art (both are an eight-minute stroll away). There's more culture to be had at the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum on the Mound, eleven minutes on foot. Edinburgh Castle, St James Quarter, the Scott Monument, and St Giles' Cathedral are all within a fifteen-minute or less wander too. Edinburgh International Conference Centre, on the other hand, is just a three-minute walk, and the University of Edinburgh, the Old Town and the Royal Mile are all under a twenty-five-minute amble, while there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for refreshments.

You'll find a little dining area and kitchenette here, too, meaning if you prefer not to whip up your own breakfasts in the morning or settle in for a cosy evening at home – you won't have to go out into the city if you prefer not to. And the chic modern bathroom will allow you to indulge in pamper sessions and that all-important "me time" between atmospheric days and nights out in the city. 







New Town Glory 

The Royal Mile stretches from the hilly city centre, right down to the even larger hills of the Crags and Arthur’s Seat (Edinburgh’s very own extinct volcano). And just six minutes from the edge of this ancient parkland, this modern home is a rather delightful contrast. The interiors are very industrial, but you’ll still find little touches of luxury. We love the lighting fixtures in the lounge and bedrooms, a web of black cords and hanging bulbs which cast a soft glow. Matching this are black metal frames on the door, shower, and bed, as well as dining chairs in the living space. Overall, this flat has a warehouse vibe which feels minimalist yet cosy, ideal for coming home to after witnessing a city steeped in history. Wander uphill after your morning coffee and stop in for some brunch on the High Street, just seven minutes away. Keep on heading to the top of this iconic mile to reach Edinburgh Castle. At just a thirteen-minute walk from home, your descent should include a stop at a traditional pub for a dram of whisky or a pint.

You'll feel right at home in this garden-level Victorian hideaway. From the tartan blankets to the antique furniture, it has a quintessentially Scottish design – yet it doesn't lack any contemporary touches. Outside, a wrap-around courtyard makes the perfect spot to gather in the sunshine with a glass of whisky. Indoors, you'll find a ping-pong table, board games, and a snug with Sky, Netflix, and Disney+ for quiet evenings at home. Princes Street is about a ten-minute stroll away, the Royal Mile is walkable in fifteen, and Dean Village is just down the road. All in all, we think it's a central and cosy stay in the heart of Edinburgh's West End.

Selkirk Grace

Take in the wonderful views over the Royal Mile towards Arthur's Seat from inside this charming apartment, housed in a traditional Old Town building. We love the character features here, such as the sash windows and exposed stone walls. This home is perfect for a couple or a solo traveller wanting to easily explore Edinburgh on foot.

The location is fabulous – situated near the top of the Royal Mile, it's just over a five-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. It's the same walking distance to The Scotch Whisky Experience, where you can discover the history of Scotland's national drink. Just over a fifteen-minute stroll, on the other hand, will take you to the Scottish Parliament building and the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse. There's so much on your doorstep you'll need to book another stay to fit it all in.


A Royal View

Playful and bold, this homey apartment has a lot going for it. It's packed with traditional Georgian features, yet there are plenty of modern updates that really make this place sing. The sleek kitchen has a stylish breakfast bar and is perfectly sized for rustling up meals, and there's no better spot to kick back and relax than the open living space. With its plush sofa, vibrant red accents and ornamental fireplace, there's an old-world parlour feel to this room that we find utterly charming. Cosy and contemporary, you'll love coming home to this apartment after a day out and about. Located just off Queen Street, this part of town is where you'll find lovely cafes, trendy bars and delicious restaurants. It's not far from Waverly Station – about an eight-minute walk – and both picturesque Old Town and Edinburgh Castle are about fifteen minutes away. 

Red Yarn

Not far from Edinburgh Castle, this apartment is in a great spot, close enough to the tourist sights but away from the crush of the Royal Mile. Despite this enviable location, it’s a surprisingly big place, and everything feels very high end. The interiors are relaxed without being too casual — traditional touches, such as the tan leather sofas and the original marble fireplace, mix well with more contemporary flourishes like the glass dining table and the plethora of artwork on display. We’d also be remiss not to mention the wonderful view of the castle, which can be reached in ten minutes on foot. Even closer is the greenery of Princes Street Garden, while there are shops and restaurants galore on nearby George Street.

Right across the street from Dunbars Close – a beautifully manicured 17th-century style park and garden – this bright apartment is as chic as it is comfortable. From its feature pendant lighting to its large leather sofa and floor-to-ceiling windows, there’s an air of industrial sleekness to this home that makes it feel instantly welcoming. We love the Crittall–style doors that lead to the first bedroom with its brewery-inspired wall art and the living room's cleverly concealed kitchenette that will make meal-prep feel like a Narnia-esque experience. You’ll relish starting mornings, too, in the colourful tiled bathrooms, where rainfall showers provide the ultimate luxury wake-up. When you’re not chilling out in your stylish pad or catching up on work at the bedroom's desk space, go out and explore the local area. You’re just a ten-minute walk from Calton Hill, a thirteen-minute stroll from Edinburgh Castle and a seven-minute amble from the shop-lined Royal Mile.
