Just over a twenty-minute walk from the heart and soul of the Old Town – Edinburgh Castle – the New Town has quite a different vibe. You’ll find Georgian architecture nearly everywhere you turn, and historic tenement buildings lining the streets as you head towards Canonmills. While these stone structures might look similar from the outside, we can guarantee you'll find eclectic homes within. This flat is no exception. The owner is a local artist, whose creative interior design choices are evident throughout. You’ll find her charming, abstract artwork on display in various rooms, as well as brightly-coloured walls, quirky tablecloth prints, antique furniture, and unique lamps on ornate cabinets. Our favourite spot has to be the lounge – this yellow room is full of character and old-world charm. Light up the fire and gather everyone round for a board game on a rainy day in this sumptuous space. Or at dusk, it could equally serve as a plush pad for an impromptu whisky-tasting session. While you sip on single malts, have the host arrange for a private chef to come over and handle dinner. You are on holiday after all.

From one window you have an unrestricted view of Edinburgh Castle, the iconic fortress that brings inquisitive travellers to the capital. From another, the port district of Leith, and the beaches Edinburgh is not necessarily famous for, but definitely should be. Though it’s not just about the views – the living room's curves, vintage photography and statement armchairs ensure a stay in style. Breakfasting below the huge, arched window in the sunlight is another big plus. Heading out, the New Town is on your doorstep and with it, the buzz of a city you'll never want to leave.

At the top of Calton Hill, you'll have some truly breathtaking views from this historical home. The three bedrooms, meanwhile, have each been carefully curated with a sophisticated touch and boast similarly large windows that give way to New Town views. We’re particularly fond of the main bedroom’s en-suite – a spa-like space with its rainfall shower and tempting tub, the latter providing the perfect end to a night with a glass of bubbly.

Matching this are black metal frames on the door, shower, and bed, as well as dining chairs in the living space. Overall, this flat has a warehouse vibe which feels minimalist yet cosy, ideal for coming home to after witnessing a city steeped in history. Wander uphill after your morning coffee and stop in for some brunch on the High Street, just seven minutes away. Keep on heading to the top of this iconic mile to reach Edinburgh Castle. There’s a seating area in the dining room, too, which also has a log burner. This home is perfect for families or friends wanting easy access to all that this wonderful city has to offer.
