Steeped in traditional charm and gleaming with grandeur, this charming apartment could easily play holiday home to the Royal Family – and thanks to its prestigious Ramsay Garden location, you're perfectly positioned to enjoy Edinburgh's innumerable sights and sounds on foot. From the famous Royal Mile to the fortress of Edinburgh Castle, one thing's for absolutely certain – you'll never be short of things to see and do.

The home itself is a splendourful hub flush with all things luxurious. Beautiful antique furnishings add character, meanwhile the peppering of gold–framed artworks sprinkle an extra dusting of splendour. The colour scheme is a medley or warm reds and rich browns and in the master bathroom, traditional black and white floor tiles instantly draw the eye. We particularly love the living area with its brown leather chaise sofa and Persian rug. Complete with an ancient fireplace at its heart, there's also a circular alcove and desk to one side, and a flatscreen television. Quite frankly, we couldn't think of a more elegant spot to watch a movie!

This home will leave you feeling like lord of the manor, but as tempting as it may be to stay within the walls of your royal headquarters, with so much to explore – and all within easy reach – be sure to peel yourself away from your plush pad and traverse.

Just over a twenty-minute walk from the heart and soul of the Old Town – Edinburgh Castle – the New Town has quite a different vibe. You’ll find Georgian architecture nearly everywhere you turn, and historic tenement buildings lining the streets as you head towards Canonmills. While these stone structures might look similar from the outside, we can guarantee you'll find eclectic homes within. This flat is no exception. The owner is a local artist, whose creative interior design choices are evident throughout. You’ll find her charming, abstract artwork on display in various rooms, as well as brightly-coloured walls, quirky tablecloth prints, antique furniture, and unique lamps on ornate cabinets. Our favourite spot has to be the lounge – this yellow room is full of character and old-world charm. Light up the fire and gather everyone round for a board game on a rainy day in this sumptuous space. Or at dusk, it could equally serve as a plush pad for an impromptu whisky-tasting session. While you sip on single malts, have the host arrange for a private chef to come over and handle dinner. You are on holiday after all.

Then round off the evening with a stroll around the residents' garden. In the morning, savour a hearty bowl of porridge to prepare for a big day ahead. As you’re just a six-minute walk from the edge of Holyrood Park, you’ve got an enormous green space to explore. We love the living room’s large suede sofas that beckon relaxing evenings over a glass of wine by the period working fireplace, and the large kitchen bathed in natural light that’s ready to cater celebratory feasts aplenty. The three bedrooms, meanwhile, have each been carefully curated with a sophisticated touch and boast similarly large windows that give way to New Town views. We’re particularly fond of the main bedroom’s en-suite – a spa-like space with its rainfall shower and tempting tub, the latter providing the perfect end to a night with a glass of bubbly. 
With ample entertainment options, plenty of children’s equipment on hand, as well as a lavish amount of space in which to socialise or spend some quiet time alone, this is an ideal base for those looking to make the most out of their city stay.
Outside of your home, Calton Hill and its wide-sweeping views over Edinburgh is just a fifteen-minute walk away, as is Princes Street’s parade of shops. Edinburgh Castle is also easily walkable in twenty minutes, while charming Dean Village is twenty-five minutes away on foot.

We love the character features here, such as the sash windows and exposed stone walls. This home is perfect for a couple or a solo traveller wanting to easily explore Edinburgh on foot.

The location is fabulous – situated near the top of the Royal Mile, it's just over a five-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. It's the same walking distance to The Scotch Whisky Experience, where you can discover the history of Scotland's national drink. Just over a fifteen-minute stroll, on the other hand, will take you to the Scottish Parliament building and the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse. There's so much on your doorstep you'll need to book another stay to fit it all in.

This is a genuinely special home, with an abundance of character and sophistication, with everything finished to a high quality. The location was equally impressive, found on a quiet cobbled street just off a main busy road, within walking distance of the city centre. While the striking master bedroom came close, the living room was our favourite room in the home. It feels almost like an old school drawing room, but with an added comfort factor. There's also great attention to detail, such as the drawer of hot water bottles in the kitchen for those rainy Scottish evenings.

At the eastern end of the famous Royal Mile, you’ll find this modern apartment taking residence in an old brewery. Drawing inspiration from its industrial origins, exposed bulbs, Crittall-style doors, robust furniture and dramatic black accents pack heaps of character into the space. The living area has been impeccably curated to ensure guests have enough room to entertain or relax. The bespoke kitchenette is stylish and functional. Put together a light breakfast in the morning accompanied by locally sourced zero-waste coffee, provided by your host. Once you’re fuelled up and ready to go, step out into your Old Town neighbourhood. You’re two doors down from the Museum of Edinburgh, a five-minute walk to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and a fifteen-minute mosey to the ancient Edinburgh Castle.

If your trip is centred around some Scottish sightseeing, this home drops you in the heart of the action – fans of the Edinburgh Fringe, it’s perfectly placed for you, too.

Cook up neeps and tatties (turnips and potatoes, for the uninitiated) in the large kitchen corner, which comes with everything you need, hidden behind sleek, white cupboard doors. Serve up at the table in the sunny bay window with a view straight to the castle. After a tough hike up Arthur's Seat, freshen up using the Bulgari toiletries in the bathroom and sink into your sumptuous tufted bed. Just note it's about 90 steps to reach this apartment, so we suggest packing light.

Bedroom two welcomes a third guest, plus kid-friendly travel equipment is available to families. 

Elegant Retreat

Found on a charming cobbled lane in the middle of Edinburgh's famous New Town, this apartment in a listed Georgian building has way more going for it other than its prime spot on the map. Inside, the palette of greys, blacks and dark wood give the interior the sort of character and warmth you envision from a home in the Scottish capital. Two large sash windows in the living space invite in natural light and there are several lavish touches in the interior design, from the ornate furnishings and the patterned wallpaper to the subway tile bathroom. There's a wide selection of restaurants to be found on the neighbouring Queen Street and George Street, while lots of the city's most famous attractions can be easily reached on foot — Edinburgh Castle takes just under a quarter of an hour, for instance.


A Sandstone Stay

Experience a stay like no other at this cosy Gothic castle, part of an unfinished design for Edinburgh’s first observatory. At the top of Calton Hill, you'll have some truly breathtaking views from this historical home. The National Gallery is next door and the rest of the city is a short walk away, easily making up for the lack of parking. It should be noted that the home's standout location does attract a number of tourists, so if you're looking for some peace and privacy it might not be for you. That said, the main bedroom enjoys an en-suite with a luxurious standalone bathtub, and there's outdoor seating to make the most of this stunning location.

The Stargazer's Retreat

Sometimes you spot a grand-looking, historic building and think the interior could never live up to the impressive facade. That couldn’t be further from the truth for this apartment in Edinburgh’s New Town. The Georgian frontage and original features – think marble fireplaces, high ceilings, and hardwood floors – have been tastefully augmented with rich carpets, and antique and handmade furniture. It’s no wonder this place won a Hilden Style Award. You’ll find modern comforts in the sleek, white kitchen, though the solid wood table and crystal whisky decanter add a bit of old-world charm. This light-flooded city pad is a fantastic base for your Edinburgh stay and if you can peel yourself away from the grand Chesterfield sofas, you’re a ten-minute stroll from George Street, twenty from Edinburgh Castle and just over fifteen from the Royal Mile.

The Royal Mile stretches from the hilly city centre, right down to the even larger hills of the Crags and Arthur’s Seat (Edinburgh’s very own extinct volcano). And just six minutes from the edge of this ancient parkland, this modern home is a rather delightful contrast. The interiors are very industrial, but you’ll still find little touches of luxury. We love the lighting fixtures in the lounge and bedrooms, a web of black cords and hanging bulbs which cast a soft glow. Matching this are black metal frames on the door, shower, and bed, as well as dining chairs in the living space. Overall, this flat has a warehouse vibe which feels minimalist yet cosy, ideal for coming home to after witnessing a city steeped in history. Wander uphill after your morning coffee and stop in for some brunch on the High Street, just seven minutes away. Keep on heading to the top of this iconic mile to reach Edinburgh Castle. At just a thirteen-minute walk from home, your descent should include a stop at a traditional pub for a dram of whisky or a pint.

Small but perfectly formed, this apartment is a great base in Edinburgh’s New Town. It’s just an eight-minute walk to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Princes Street Gardens are only thirteen minutes away. There are an array of attractions within walking distance of this elegant Edinburgh townhouse, set over three floors. The Royal Botanic Garden is under ten minutes on foot, while the Scott Monument is just over fifteen minutes away. Edinburgh Castle, Johnnie Walker Princes Street and the Royal Mile are under a twenty-five-minute walk, as well. We have to say we love this home’s spacious living room with its character features and large sash windows. Another highlight is the bathrooms with their freestanding bathtubs. There’s a seating area in the dining room, too, which also has a log burner. This home is perfect for families or friends wanting easy access to all that this wonderful city has to offer.

The Castle Hill

It's quite fitting that this elegant studio apartment with its beautiful painted mural is close to the Scottish National Gallery and Scottish Gallery of Modern Art (both are an eight-minute stroll away). There's more culture to be had at the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum on the Mound, eleven minutes on foot. Edinburgh Castle, St James Quarter, the Scott Monument, and St Giles' Cathedral are all within a fifteen-minute or less wander too. Edinburgh International Conference Centre, on the other hand, is just a three-minute walk, and the University of Edinburgh, the Old Town and the Royal Mile are all under a twenty-five-minute amble, while there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for refreshments.

After a busy day of sightseeing, take a seat on one of the comfy chairs and admire the artwork with a wee dram. Or get some rest in the bedroom with its dramatic dark navy-hued wood panelling. We love the character features in this apartment, such as the high ceilings, cornices, sash windows and shutters. After you've put your feet up for a while, get ready in the bathroom with its terrazzo-effect tiling and head to bed or if you're anything like us, sample the restaurants and bars – well, they're close by, and it would be rude not to.
