Sitting within one of Edinburgh's many Georgian buildings, this loft apartment doesn't have the period features you might expect from the handsome exterior, but it's still easy on the eye nevertheless. Ideally, it could do with another bathroom, but that's nitpicking really. One thing we especially like is that the neighbourhood is a little more residential than the touristy centre, but you're still within walking distance of many of the city's attractions – the castle and old town are both around half an hour's walk, for instance.

If you're a couple, solo traveller or business professional looking to be within walking distance of the majority of Edinburgh's main attractions, then this chic studio is perfect. George Street and Princes Street are a one-minute stroll away, while Edinburgh International Conference Centre is just a three-minute saunter, and the University of Edinburgh, the Old Town and the Royal Mile are all under a twenty-five-minute walk. Staying in this chic apartment puts you right in the heart of Edinburgh. You’ll be a stone’s throw from the Royal Mile and only a four-minute walk from Edinburgh Castle – if you’re visiting to see the sights, this is the perfect location. There are independent shops and restaurants nearby, but you’ll also have a well-equipped kitchen if you prefer dining in. The apartment is comfortable and cosy, a real home-from-home for families and friends travelling together.

You'll be walking distance from a bevvy of restaurants and not far from landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Its central location makes noise likely, especially since floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the street. That aside, it's a cosy place to come home to after sightseeing. The leather sofa is a great spot to curl up with a scotch, while the desk and high-speed wi-fi are ideal if you're in town on business. Keep in mind that the first floor is only accessible by stairs and free parking isn't provided – not dealbreakers though if you're keen to be in the heart of the city.

We’d normally start with the fantastic West End location, but let’s talk about this luxurious apartment first. There’s a stylish open-plan living space with a modern fireplace – the perfect place to relax after a busy day. Just over a twenty-minute walk from the heart and soul of the Old Town – Edinburgh Castle – the New Town has quite a different vibe. You’ll find Georgian architecture nearly everywhere you turn, and historic tenement buildings lining the streets as you head towards Canonmills. While these stone structures might look similar from the outside, we can guarantee you'll find eclectic homes within. This flat is no exception. The owner is a local artist, whose creative interior design choices are evident throughout. You’ll find her charming, abstract artwork on display in various rooms, as well as brightly-coloured walls, quirky tablecloth prints, antique furniture, and unique lamps on ornate cabinets. Our favourite spot has to be the lounge – this yellow room is full of character and old-world charm. Light up the fire and gather everyone round for a board game on a rainy day in this sumptuous space. Or at dusk, it could equally serve as a plush pad for an impromptu whisky-tasting session. While you sip on single malts, have the host arrange for a private chef to come over and handle dinner. You are on holiday after all.

Cosy and comfortable, this basement-level apartment is an excellent option for couples. Inside, there's a well-appointed kitchen, a light-filled living area, and a bedroom with a small workspace. You'll also have the added bonus of a communal garden, where you can enjoy a glass of Scotch in the sunshine. But what we love the most here is the location. Set in bustling New Town, you'll find shops, pubs, and restaurants nearby. Further afield, but still easily reached on foot, is picturesque Old Town, while Stockbridge and Dean Village are also within easy reach.

Take in the wonderful views over the Royal Mile towards Arthur's Seat from inside this charming apartment, housed in a traditional Old Town building. We love the character features here, such as the sash windows and exposed stone walls. This home is perfect for a couple or a solo traveller wanting to easily explore Edinburgh on foot.

The location is fabulous – situated near the top of the Royal Mile, it's just over a five-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. It's the same walking distance to The Scotch Whisky Experience, where you can discover the history of Scotland's national drink. Just over a fifteen-minute stroll, on the other hand, will take you to the Scottish Parliament building and the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse. There's so much on your doorstep you'll need to book another stay to fit it all in.

The Royal Mile and Scottish Parliament are both a fifteen-minute saunter away.
