This apartment is just a short stroll from The Meadows, perfect for a picnic or for the children to play. Holyrood Park and the famous Royal Mile are also within walking distance, as are many eateries, including Michelin Star restaurants. Housed in a traditional stone Victorian building, you’ll find period features such as bay windows inside this home. We should note that the third bedroom is off the main bedroom and is a small box room with a single bed, but it’s okay for a child. This cute little apartment puts you right on Edinburgh’s Grassmarket. Once the city’s livestock marketplace dating back to the 1300s, this square is now home to buzzing bars and cafés. The Castle looms overhead, and it’s a five-minute walk up some old steps to reach this and the Royal Mile. Even better, you’re placed at the bottom of Victoria Street, where a rainbow of 19th-century townhouses attract photographers from far and wide.

True to its Old Town location, the flat itself is housed in a historic tenement building with big sash windows and its original fireplace still on show. High ceilings and original wooden floors keep things classy and spots of greenery come courtesy of pot plants throughout. There’s plenty of room around the glass dining table and across plush leather sofas. The best bit is the view from the living room, where you can watch the lively Grassmarket come to life before you.

Despite this enviable location, it’s a surprisingly big place, and everything feels very high end. The interiors are relaxed without being too casual — traditional touches, such as the tan leather sofas and the original marble fireplace, mix well with more contemporary flourishes like the glass dining table and the plethora of artwork on display. We’d also be remiss not to mention the wonderful view of the castle, which can be reached in ten minutes on foot. It's the perfect place for pre-theatre drinks or a wee dram at the end of the night. You may even be lucky enough to see one of the fireworks displays light up the sky around the castle.

Inside, it's been freshly renovated by one of Scotland's leading interior designers. A lot of attention to detail has been lavished on this home. We adore the custom wallpaper, designer accessories, plush velvet seating and drapes, as well as the contemporary artworks by Scottish and New York artists. All in all, this creates a sumptuous, five-star boutique suite feel. There’s even a secret extra outdoor room furnished with tartan throws and puffin cushions – the ideal spot for reading a book.

The location is as impressive as this apartment. It's a three-minute stroll to both Princes Street and the Lyceum Theatre, while Usher Hall, which has hosted concerts and events since 1914, is a mere one-minute saunter. No trip to the city would be complete without visiting Edinburgh Castle – it's around ten minutes on foot.

Glowing Ember is something of an unexpected treat. The square outside is lovely, but even so, the flat itself is a surprise. There’s a sense of drama all around, much of which comes from the contrast between antiques and modern furniture, as well as the setting over two levels. The conservatory at the back stands out a bit, as the design is different, but while it’s a bit simpler, that’s exactly what you want in summer, when you can throw the doors open and lounge around in the sun.

It’s walking distance from landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and a short stroll from the historic cobblestone streets of the Royal Mile (sensible shoes are a must). After a long day of sightseeing or shopping, this home offers a warm welcome, with a comfy living area, well-appointed kitchen, and restful bedrooms for recharging your batteries. If seven of you are staying, two will be sleeping on the sofa bed, and the single bathroom might mean morning queues. But those small compromises don’t matter as much when you’re in such a great location.

You'll find it off the vibrant Grassmarket, an easy walk to historic Old Town and Princes Street Gardens. Shops, restaurants, pubs, landmarks – you name it, chances are you can reach it on foot. Back home, the design is more modern, but it still feels cosy. The kitchen is well-equipped for home cooking, while the living area features a sofa bed – just note the fee for linens. Even without castle views, we think it's a comfortable, practical option in an unbelievable location.

You can walk to all the must-sees from here, including The Meadows, Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street, and the list goes on.

And if you stay here you could join these hallowed ranks, because this charming apartment has plenty to write home about. The living room is a chic and cosy spot, with its exposed wooden floors, geometric rug, feature fireplace and cushioned-up window nook – ideal for curling up with a good book. The turquoise kitchen has everything you need for making your favourite foods, and the bedroom is an oasis of calm with its clean, white bedding. And then there’s the location. Sitting almost next door to King's Theatre and Edinburgh University, you’ll be a short walk from some of the city’s greatest sights, including the castle, the Royal Mile and Greyfriars Kirkyard. With its craggy peaks and rolling hills, you might not immediately think of Edinburgh as a canal city. But this fabulous houseboat at Lochrin Basin will defy your expectations, just fifteen minutes on foot from Edinburgh Castle. Its bright green painted exterior stands out on the water, and the interior has gorgeous, rich wood throughout. Two bright terraces on the roof deck are where you’ll sip champagne on arrival. Spacious, stylish, and unique, the VIP experience on board feels more like a yacht than a canal barge. Make use of the foot spa and electric massage chair after settling down in your fluffy bathrobe. And your host even offers luxury welcome packages full of fine Scottish fare, as well as a private chef. If you fancy heading out for cafés, dinners, and drinking, walk up to Bruntsfield in just ten minutes, or head over to Tollcross in six. Both areas are absolutely teeming with brunch spots and tasty restaurants, as well as plenty of watering holes like traditional pubs. Indulge in a stylish stay on George Street, one of Edinburgh's most well-known streets and home to famous bars and restaurants including The Dome, The Ivy, Dishoom and the Cafe Royal. Bay windows have views of the castle, the Firth of Forth and, of course, the timeless Georgian architecture right outside your door. Cook up neeps and tatties (turnips and potatoes, for the uninitiated) in the large kitchen corner, which comes with everything you need, hidden behind sleek, white cupboard doors. Serve up at the table in the sunny bay window with a view straight to the castle. After a tough hike up Arthur's Seat, freshen up using the Bulgari toiletries in the bathroom and sink into your sumptuous tufted bed. Just note it's about 90 steps to reach this apartment, so we suggest packing light.

Cosy and comfortable, this basement-level apartment is an excellent option for couples. Inside, there's a well-appointed kitchen, a light-filled living area, and a bedroom with a small workspace. You'll also have the added bonus of a communal garden, where you can enjoy a glass of Scotch in the sunshine. But what we love the most here is the location. Set in bustling New Town, you'll find shops, pubs, and restaurants nearby. Further afield, but still easily reached on foot, is picturesque Old Town, while Stockbridge and Dean Village are also within easy reach.

Just over a twenty-minute walk from the heart and soul of the Old Town – Edinburgh Castle – the New Town has quite a different vibe. You’ll find Georgian architecture nearly everywhere you turn, and historic tenement buildings lining the streets as you head towards Canonmills. While these stone structures might look similar from the outside, we can guarantee you'll find eclectic homes within. This flat is no exception. The owner is a local artist, whose creative interior design choices are evident throughout. You’ll find her charming, abstract artwork on display in various rooms, as well as brightly-coloured walls, quirky tablecloth prints, antique furniture, and unique lamps on ornate cabinets. Our favourite spot has to be the lounge – this yellow room is full of character and old-world charm. Light up the fire and gather everyone round for a board game on a rainy day in this sumptuous space. Or at dusk, it could equally serve as a plush pad for an impromptu whisky-tasting session. While you sip on single malts, have the host arrange for a private chef to come over and handle dinner. You are on holiday after all.

Take in the wonderful views over the Royal Mile towards Arthur's Seat from inside this charming apartment, housed in a traditional Old Town building. We love the character features here, such as the sash windows and exposed stone walls. This home is perfect for a couple or a solo traveller wanting to easily explore Edinburgh on foot.

The location is fabulous – situated near the top of the Royal Mile, it's just over a five-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. It's the same walking distance to The Scotch Whisky Experience, where you can discover the history of Scotland's national drink. Just over a fifteen-minute stroll, on the other hand, will take you to the Scottish Parliament building and the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse. There's so much on your doorstep you'll need to book another stay to fit it all in.

Back at this industrial-inspired home, there's everything you need to feel comfortable during your stay. We love the spider chandelier, modern prints and monochrome wallpaper here. Plan your days from the comfy sofa or enjoy a takeaway at the dining table if you don't fancy eating out. This home is perfect for a group of friends or a family looking to be within walking distance of many of Edinburgh's wonderful sights.

Sitting within one of Edinburgh's many Georgian buildings, this loft apartment doesn't have the period features you might expect from the handsome exterior, but it's still easy on the eye nevertheless. Ideally, it could do with another bathroom, but that's nitpicking really. One thing we especially like is that the neighbourhood is a little more residential than the touristy centre, but you're still within walking distance of many of the city's attractions – the castle and old town are both around half an hour's walk, for instance.

Monochrome style meets Edinburgh's history in this city centre apartment, nestled on one of the city's most famous streets; George Street. The flat pays tribute to city icons such as Sean Connery and Calton Hill with a coherent collection of black-and-white prints lining the living area's walls. Original feature fireplaces in the bedroom, a chandelier in the living room, and cornicing like icing on a cake hark back to the days when horse and carriage would clatter along the wide boulevard below. George Street has its own rich history, originally built as "the principal street" of the New Town. The neighbouring townhouses are architectural marvels. Found on a charming cobbled lane in the middle of Edinburgh's famous New Town, this apartment in a listed Georgian building has way more going for it other than its prime spot on the map. Inside, the palette of greys, blacks and dark wood give the interior the sort of character and warmth you envision from a home in the Scottish capital. Two large sash windows in the living space invite in natural light and there are several lavish touches in the interior design, from the ornate furnishings and the patterned wallpaper to the subway tile bathroom. There's a wide selection of restaurants to be found on the neighbouring Queen Street and George Street, while lots of the city's most famous attractions can be easily reached on foot — Edinburgh Castle takes just under a quarter of an hour, for instance.

Small but perfectly formed, this apartment is a great base in Edinburgh’s New Town. It’s just an eight-minute walk to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Princes Street Gardens are only thirteen minutes away. There are countless bars, cafes and eateries within walking distance, too. The open-plan living and dining space is compact but attractive, and you also have the bonus of a garden to spread out in. The free-standing bathtub is another treat, perfect if you’ve spent the day sightseeing and need to rest your feet.

The Royal Mile stretches from the hilly city centre, right down to the even larger hills of the Crags and Arthur’s Seat (Edinburgh’s very own extinct volcano). And just six minutes from the edge of this ancient parkland, this modern home is a rather delightful contrast. The interiors are very industrial, but you’ll still find little touches of luxury. We love the lighting fixtures in the lounge and bedrooms, a web of black cords and hanging bulbs which cast a soft glow. Matching this are black metal frames on the door, shower, and bed, as well as dining chairs in the living space. Overall, this flat has a warehouse vibe which feels minimalist yet cosy, ideal for coming home to after witnessing a city steeped in history. Wander uphill after your morning coffee and stop in for some brunch on the High Street, just seven minutes away. Keep on heading to the top of this iconic mile to reach Edinburgh Castle. At just a thirteen-minute walk from home, your descent should include a stop at a traditional pub for a dram of whisky or a pint.

We’re particularly fond of the main bedroom’s en-suite – a spa-like space with its rainfall shower and tempting tub, the latter providing the perfect end to a night with a glass of bubbly. 
With ample entertainment options, plenty of children’s equipment on hand, as well as a lavish amount of space in which to socialise or spend some quiet time alone, this is an ideal base for those looking to make the most out of their city stay.
Outside of your home, Calton Hill and its wide-sweeping views over Edinburgh is just a fifteen-minute walk away, as is Princes Street’s parade of shops. Edinburgh Castle is also easily walkable in twenty minutes, while charming Dean Village is twenty-five minutes away on foot.

Step out of the building straight onto the Royal Mile in the capital’s historic Old Town, a short stroll from Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. If your trip is centred around some Scottish sightseeing, this home drops you in the heart of the action – fans of the Edinburgh Fringe, it’s perfectly placed for you, too.

We're into the Scandi-inspired interiors of this Old Town apartment, but we love its location even more. Placed just a stone's throw from the Royal Mile, it's hard to imagine a better setting.

Walk in the footsteps of Scotland's kings and queens with a visit to Edinburgh Castle (six minutes on foot). Marvel at the natural history wonders of Scotland at the National Museum, just across the street. Then see mother nature up close and personal with a hike up Edinburgh's volcano, Arthur's Seat (forty-minute walk) - the views over the city are awe-inspiring.

When thoughts turn to food, you'll be well fed and watered in historical Grassmarket (five minutes on foot). The broad, open square is lined with buzzy restaurants and bars, including the city's oldest pub for a wee whiskey dram or three.

Back at home, you'll find this apartment housed in a handsome neoclassical building of high and might proportions. While the giant windows and lofty ceilings remain, everywhere else is reimagined for modern living, with mid-century-inspired furniture and house plants creating a homey feel. By day, curl up on the sofa with a freshly brewed coffee and soak up charming views of the neighbouring church. By night, draw the blinds and hunker down with a good book or a film – the statement lighting creates a lovely ambience.

Experience a stay like no other at this cosy Gothic castle, part of an unfinished design for Edinburgh’s first observatory. At the top of Calton Hill, you'll have some truly breathtaking views from this historical home. The National Gallery is next door and the rest of the city is a short walk away, easily making up for the lack of parking. It should be noted that the home's standout location does attract a number of tourists, so if you're looking for some peace and privacy it might not be for you. That said, the main bedroom enjoys an en-suite with a luxurious standalone bathtub, and there's outdoor seating to make the most of this stunning location.
