The leather sofa is a great spot to curl up with a scotch, while the desk and high-speed wi-fi are ideal if you're in town on business. Keep in mind that the first floor is only accessible by stairs and free parking isn't provided – not dealbreakers though if you're keen to be in the heart of the city.

Despite this enviable location, it’s a surprisingly big place, and everything feels very high end. The interiors are relaxed without being too casual — traditional touches, such as the tan leather sofas and the original marble fireplace, mix well with more contemporary flourishes like the glass dining table and the plethora of artwork on display. We’d also be remiss not to mention the wonderful view of the castle, which can be reached in ten minutes on foot. Even closer is the greenery of Princes Street Garden, while there are shops and restaurants galore on nearby George Street.

Glowing Ember is something of an unexpected treat. The square outside is lovely, but even so, the flat itself is a surprise. There’s a sense of drama all around, much of which comes from the contrast between antiques and modern furniture, as well as the setting over two levels. The conservatory at the back stands out a bit, as the design is different, but while it’s a bit simpler, that’s exactly what you want in summer, when you can throw the doors open and lounge around in the sun.

Mixing contemporary minimalist furniture with Georgian period features, Watching For Comets feels very homey. Both modern and bright, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay – including an open-plan kitchen/living room, which sets the scene for many cosy nights-in. The tram runs past the front of the home, so you’re also incredibly well-connected. And if you feel like exploring the city by foot, you can reach many of Edinburgh’s art galleries and the Water of Leigh in about ten minutes.

The home itself is a splendourful hub flush with all things luxurious. The colour scheme is a medley or warm reds and rich browns and in the master bathroom, traditional black and white floor tiles instantly draw the eye. Outside of your home, Calton Hill and its wide-sweeping views over Edinburgh is just a fifteen-minute walk away, as is Princes Street’s parade of shops. Edinburgh Castle is also easily walkable in twenty minutes, while charming Dean Village is twenty-five minutes away on foot.
