Not far from Edinburgh Castle, this apartment is in a great spot, close enough to the tourist sights but away from the crush of the Royal Mile. Despite this enviable location, it’s a surprisingly big place, and everything feels very high end. The interiors are relaxed without being too casual — traditional touches, such as the tan leather sofas and the original marble fireplace, mix well with more contemporary flourishes like the glass dining table and the plethora of artwork on display. We’d also be remiss not to mention the wonderful view of the castle, which can be reached in ten minutes on foot. Even closer is the greenery of Princes Street Garden, while there are shops and restaurants galore on nearby George Street.

Situated in an elegant 1850s building in Edinburgh's theatre district, this beautiful home is a rarity indeed. It boasts Edinburgh Castle views from the entrance and a private outdoor space, complete with a gas fireplace and sofas. It's the perfect place for pre-theatre drinks or a wee dram at the end of the night. You may even be lucky enough to see one of the fireworks displays light up the sky around the castle.

Inside, it's been freshly renovated by one of Scotland's leading interior designers. A lot of attention to detail has been lavished on this home. We adore the custom wallpaper, designer accessories, plush velvet seating and drapes, as well as the contemporary artworks by Scottish and New York artists. All in all, this creates a sumptuous, five-star boutique suite feel. There’s even a secret extra outdoor room furnished with tartan throws and puffin cushions – the ideal spot for reading a book.

The location is as impressive as this apartment. It's a three-minute stroll to both Princes Street and the Lyceum Theatre, while Usher Hall, which has hosted concerts and events since 1914, is a mere one-minute saunter. Trust us, this stony scene looks even more dramatic on a famous Scottish rainy day. If you’re staying in, enjoy your own drizzle in the rainfall shower before cosying up on the plush sofa with a tea. For a local wander, visit the Dean Village, just twelve minutes away on foot. This picturesque neighbourhood, founded in the 12th century, is one of the most tranquil and beautiful spots in town. Glowing Ember is something of an unexpected treat. The square outside is lovely, but even so, the flat itself is a surprise. There’s a sense of drama all around, much of which comes from the contrast between antiques and modern furniture, as well as the setting over two levels. The conservatory at the back stands out a bit, as the design is different, but while it’s a bit simpler, that’s exactly what you want in summer, when you can throw the doors open and lounge around in the sun.

Mixing contemporary minimalist furniture with Georgian period features, Watching For Comets feels very homey. Both modern and bright, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay – including an open-plan kitchen/living room, which sets the scene for many cosy nights-in. The tram runs past the front of the home, so you’re also incredibly well-connected. And if you feel like exploring the city by foot, you can reach many of Edinburgh’s art galleries and the Water of Leigh in about ten minutes.

This beautiful home boasts Georgian grandeur in the heart of the West End of Edinburgh. The property was built around 1850 but was renovated in 2021 – the elegance remains, but the home has been brought thoroughly up to date. 

You can expect to find high ceilings and huge floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the home with light, alongside period features like columns in the queenly bedroom. Modern convenience can also be found in the sleek kitchen, where you can whip up anything from Champagne cocktails to full-blown feasts. 

Of course, the apartment is in such a convenient location that you might prefer to dine out. It takes just six minutes to stroll to Princes Street, and there are endless eateries nearby – whether you’re seeking a cosy cafe, a refined restaurant, or a lively pub. You can stroll to Edinburgh Castle in twenty minutes, taking in the historic Royal Mile on the way. All of the city’s major sights are within easy walking distance, but a three-minute walk will take you to the tram if your feet need a break.

Just a few steps from Princes Street, the location of this Edinburgh apartment is spot-on. You'll be walking distance from a bevvy of restaurants and not far from landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Its central location makes noise likely, especially since floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the street. That aside, it's a cosy place to come home to after sightseeing. The leather sofa is a great spot to curl up with a scotch, while the desk and high-speed wi-fi are ideal if you're in town on business. Keep in mind that the first floor is only accessible by stairs and free parking isn't provided – not dealbreakers though if you're keen to be in the heart of the city.

This traditional home is in a great location in the West End of Edinburgh, just a five-minute walk to Princes Street. It’s tucked away on a quiet street close to the action, so you’ll have the best of both worlds. The decor won’t be to everyone’s taste as it’s slightly dated, but if you’re simply seeking a restful base for your visit, we think this home will do the trick. You’ll have your own garden to unwind in, as well as a parking space.

Found in Edinburgh's West End, this comfy flat is an ideal base for exploring one of the UK's most vibrant cities. Despite being in the basement, you'll still get some natural light here (when the sun breaks through the clouds, at least), but some rooms do get less than others. There's also a small courtyard, a rarity in the city centre. With two bathrooms, you'll be out the door quickly in the mornings, meaning you're well-primed to grab brunch at one of the neighbourhood cafes before exploring nearby Old Town.

With its craggy peaks and rolling hills, you might not immediately think of Edinburgh as a canal city. But this fabulous houseboat at Lochrin Basin will defy your expectations, just fifteen minutes on foot from Edinburgh Castle. Its bright green painted exterior stands out on the water, and the interior has gorgeous, rich wood throughout. Two bright terraces on the roof deck are where you’ll sip champagne on arrival. Spacious, stylish, and unique, the VIP experience on board feels more like a yacht than a canal barge. Make use of the foot spa and electric massage chair after settling down in your fluffy bathrobe. The home itself is a splendourful hub flush with all things luxurious. Beautiful antique furnishings add character, meanwhile the peppering of gold–framed artworks sprinkle an extra dusting of splendour. The colour scheme is a medley or warm reds and rich browns and in the master bathroom, traditional black and white floor tiles instantly draw the eye. We particularly love the living area with its brown leather chaise sofa and Persian rug. Complete with an ancient fireplace at its heart, there's also a circular alcove and desk to one side, and a flatscreen television. Quite frankly, we couldn't think of a more elegant spot to watch a movie!

After a tough hike up Arthur's Seat, freshen up using the Bulgari toiletries in the bathroom and sink into your sumptuous tufted bed. Just note it's about 90 steps to reach this apartment, so we suggest packing light.

There’s also a classic piano for evenings spent in the sociable dining room, gathered around a home-cooked feast with your own personal soundtrack and pretty views of the neighbourhood. The bedrooms are similarly styled, with lovely wall details and traditional fireplaces complemented by gold accents, antique mirrors and colourful carpets and throws. Get cosy and recharge before heading out into the picturesque heart of the city. You’ll be just a three-minute walk from the majestic Edinburgh Castle and five minutes from the historic Old Town. Spend lovely mornings strolling through the greenery at the Princess Street Gardens, just four minutes away before you get lost in the maze of the city.

Sitting within one of Edinburgh's many Georgian buildings, this loft apartment doesn't have the period features you might expect from the handsome exterior, but it's still easy on the eye nevertheless. Ideally, it could do with another bathroom, but that's nitpicking really. One thing we especially like is that the neighbourhood is a little more residential than the touristy centre, but you're still within walking distance of many of the city's attractions – the castle and old town are both around half an hour's walk, for instance.

With the New Town’s shops and restaurants on your doorstep and many of Edinburgh’s most famous sights within walking distance, there’s no end to the entertainment available around this stylish home. Housed in a beautifully preserved Georgian townhouse, there’s a definite feeling of natural calm in this apartment with its dark green sofa, pale wood floors and chic modern furnishings. Open up the door in the living room and master bedroom to step out onto a peaceful private courtyard framed by stone walls, where a table and chairs invite sunny breakfasts and evening drinks beneath the moon. We love the clever use of cabinetry that’s been used for the bespoke kitchenette and the master bedroom’s chic vanity desk that will make getting ready for a night out on the town a treat. History buffs will be happy that they're just a twelve-minute walk away from Edinburgh Castle while Calton Hill, with its incomparable city views, is a fourteen-minute stroll from your front door.

Experience a stay like no other at this cosy Gothic castle, part of an unfinished design for Edinburgh’s first observatory. At the top of Calton Hill, you'll have some truly breathtaking views from this historical home. The National Gallery is next door and the rest of the city is a short walk away, easily making up for the lack of parking. It should be noted that the home's standout location does attract a number of tourists, so if you're looking for some peace and privacy it might not be for you. That said, the main bedroom enjoys an en-suite with a luxurious standalone bathtub, and there's outdoor seating to make the most of this stunning location.

The Stargazer's Retreat

At the foot of the Royal Mile, just a five-minute stroll away from Holyrood Palace, you'll find this slick apartment that's perfectly set up for city living. It's a modern space – contrasting with the winding, historic streets outside – where you can settle down on the buttery soft leather sofa and enjoy a nip of whisky between your adventures. The smart grey sideboard opens up to reveal a small kitchen, ideal for preparing a quick bowl of porridge before heading out, and your hosts are on hand to provide hotel-level services during your stay. A wander up the Royal Mile will lead you to imposing Edinburgh Castle in just over ten minutes, where you can walk in the footsteps of Scotland's ancient kings and queens. Or, take a hike up nearby Arthur's Seat for the very best views over the city – you won't be disappointed.

This top floor apartment on historic George Street has the best seat in the house, and we're not just talking about the cow print armchair. From one window you have an unrestricted view of Edinburgh Castle, the iconic fortress that brings inquisitive travellers to the capital. From another, the port district of Leith, and the beaches Edinburgh is not necessarily famous for, but definitely should be. Though it’s not just about the views – the living room's curves, vintage photography and statement armchairs ensure a stay in style. Breakfasting below the huge, arched window in the sunlight is another big plus. Heading out, the New Town is on your doorstep and with it, the buzz of a city you'll never want to leave.

At the eastern end of the famous Royal Mile, you’ll find this modern apartment taking residence in an old brewery. Drawing inspiration from its industrial origins, exposed bulbs, Crittall-style doors, robust furniture and dramatic black accents pack heaps of character into the space. The living area has been impeccably curated to ensure guests have enough room to entertain or relax. The bespoke kitchenette is stylish and functional. Put together a light breakfast in the morning accompanied by locally sourced zero-waste coffee, provided by your host. Once you’re fuelled up and ready to go, step out into your Old Town neighbourhood. You’re two doors down from the Museum of Edinburgh, a five-minute walk to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and a fifteen-minute mosey to the ancient Edinburgh Castle.

This is a genuinely special home, with an abundance of character and sophistication, with everything finished to a high quality. The location was equally impressive, found on a quiet cobbled street just off a main busy road, within walking distance of the city centre. While the striking master bedroom came close, the living room was our favourite room in the home. It feels almost like an old school drawing room, but with an added comfort factor. There's also great attention to detail, such as the drawer of hot water bottles in the kitchen for those rainy Scottish evenings.
