An interesting fact about this Grade-II listed Georgian mansion is that it played host to President Franklin D.Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor on their honeymoon tour of Scotland. Over a century on, the home is still a true one-of-a-kind that will make any special occasion totally unforgettable. Surrounded by six acres of woodland and gardens — it's not uncommon to see a couple of deer in the morning mist and sheep grazing on the hillside — guests will get a taste of the air of seclusion the moment they drive up to the front door. Inside, it's a mix of handsome wood panelling, roaring fireplaces and lots of comfy furnishings — whatever the weather outside, we can ensure you that you'll never be anything other than cosy here. This home has been creating a bit of a buzz, and for all the right reasons. It's been featured by the BBC, and is a shining example of Scottish hospitality in the city of Inverness. Step inside, and you'll find a cosy space with plenty of seating, ideal for flopping down with a glass of whisky at the end of a long day exploring. The hosts have put great thought into every aspect of this home, from the luxury toiletries to the Bose speaker systems in every bedroom and the extra-large bathtub where you can soak in perfect peace. And, the hosts try to buy local wherever possible – once you've tried a cup of the locally-roasted coffee along with a freshly-baked slice of shortbread, you'll understand why. You're just a few steps away from the banks of the River Ness, and Inverness Castle is less than five minutes away from your front door, along with a range of shops and restaurants in the city centre. Jump in the car, and it takes twenty-five minutes to reach world-famous Loch Ness for some monster-spotting. Even if you don't spy Nessie, you can hop on one of the boat tours to sail along the water, or hit one of the nearby walking trails for an invigorating hike through the Highland landscapes.

Sitting on eight acres of gardens, this castle was a case of love at first sight for us. There's plenty of history here, with the home being over three hundred years old – the garden is even believed to have inspired 'The Secret Garden.' Upon arrival, you're greeted by the butler, who will ensure you have roaring fires throughout your stay – perfect after a bracing highland walk. With two ballrooms, the home can be booked for weddings, and the two rooms with four-poster beds make perfect honeymoon suites. In the local area, you can play golf or fish (you'll need to book these in advance), cycle, bird watch, and visit distilleries to try the local wares.

From the outside, this Victorian home looks as quaint as quaint can be, but inside, guests will find an apartment that mixes vintage and modern aspects with considerable dexterity. In the living room, a large bay window floods the space with natural daylight, which dances nicely off the wooden floors and walls painted in muted grey. The Persian rug and deep blue sofa add some bold splashes of colour. Elsewhere, we're big fans of the gleaming copper bathtub in the master bathroom that promises to be as comfortable as it is handsome. Off the same room, there's access to a cute terrace with alfresco seating — yes, it's Scotland, but put on a jumper and enjoy the dramatic sunsets that this corner of the country enjoys. The home's only an eight-minute walk from the River Ness and Inverness's town centre, which includes a castle and an art gallery. Alternatively, if you're feeling more active, Cairngorms National Park takes around half an hour to reach in the car.

Only a stone’s throw away from Little Loch Broom, this breathtaking home in the Scottish highlands is an absolute celebration of peace and tranquillity. Embrace the seclusion as you sit out early morning, admiring the views with a cup of freshly-brewed coffee. Meals can also be taken out on the little picnic-style bench, because believe us when we say, you’re going to want as much time as possible here enjoying the magic of simply being present in the space. 

Watch mist dissipate, clouds roll across the sky to cast shadows on the loch, and when the infamous Scottish weather drives you inside, well, you’ll still have floor-to-ceiling windows through which to keep that connection with the rugged beauty outside. 

With marble, wood, texture, and a lot of detail, this home not only feels modern, but it somehow retains the charm of a log cabin, albeit more luxurious, and the warmth that comes with it, making this feel like a home away from home. Spend wet days stretched out on the sofa with cocoa in hand, or take full advantage of the board games on offer here and have yourself a bit of friendly competition. 

When the rest of the group wander off to do their own thing after a lunch enjoyed at the heavy timber dining table – we suggest sourdough topped with black pudding, cherry tomatoes, vinegar and black pepper – you can claim the window bench for a reading nook or retreat upstairs for a luxurious bubble bath with views of the loch. 

Take advantage of sunny days by exploring the area and find the Ardessie Falls only a short walk away. Stop off at the pancake tearoom or drive about fifteen minutes away to dine at the Ocean View Hotel. One of Scotaland’s famous hidden beaches, Gunaird Bay, is also at the end of a fifteen-minute drive.

If you want to try and spot the ever-elusive Loch Ness Monster, this old stone clergy house that has sat on the banks of the famed body of water for over a century-and-a-half lets you do so in the utmost comfort. Inside, the rooms are filled with varnished wood furnishings, boldly printed rugs and roaring fireplaces — so you can look out the windows at the loch without feeling cold in the slightest. Other noble flourishes come in the shape of the four-poster beds and the two deep claw-footed bathtubs. There's even a small garden out the back, but you're hardly short of beautiful outdoor attractions around these parts. Urquhart Castle is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Dores Beach can be reached in twenty minutes in case you're in the mood for a bracing wild swim. Although the address feels both rural and secluded, the town centre of Inverness only takes seventeen minutes to reach in the car, too.

It’s a real home-from-home, with everything you might need during your stay, including a fully-equipped kitchen and a garden for warm weather.
