Tucked away in a quiet position surrounded by fields and nature, this holiday home is a charming escape in Scotland. It’s close to Loch Ness, a short drive from Fort Augustus, in an excellent spot for hiking, mountain biking, and enjoying the Great Outdoors. The modern cottage has a large garden that boasts panoramic views of the countryside, perfect for a picnic lunch or a sundowner after a long walk. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable home-from-home with an attractive open-plan living and dining space at its heart. You’ll have everything you need here. 

Highland Mist

Situated in former St Andrew’s Chapel, this unique home retains many of its original gothic features. Stained glass windows depicting Scottish saints let the sun shine through, casting rainbows of light. The carved stone columns and vaulted Cathedral-style ceiling have been incorporated into the design, while gilded mirrors and antique pieces are woven seamlessly with modern furnishings in the living and dining area. The master bedroom is on a mezzanine level, overlooking the living room where you can watch the light change through the stained glass windows throughout the day. Ideally located to explore the outdoors, you’ll be on 20 acres of private gardens – with tennis courts, a swimming pool, an orchard and even a giant chess set spread across the complex. This former fort, monastery and abbey on the shores of Loch Ness is now a self-contained holiday complex, with easy access to the wild Highland countryside, boat trips on the loch and village pubs. 

Saints Go Marching

Nestled in Kingussie within the Cairngorms National Park, this charming home is perfect for large group getaways in the Scottish Highlands. Set across three floors, there’s plenty of space to spread out here and enjoy some quiet time with a good book. But for us, what really caught our eye is the location. Entertainment abounds in the local area – visit the Highland Folk Museum for an insight into local history, peruse the art on display at the Iona Gallery, take a whiskey distillery tour at nearby Dalwhinnie, or visit the Highland Wildlife Park, unbridled fun for all the family. However you spend your days, memorable moments are guaranteed. 

Highland Welcome

Designed to celebrate the natural beauty of its environment, this unique eco home makes the perfect setting for a Highlands getaway. Overlooking Loch Duich, you can admire the spectacular views from the terrace or while relaxing by the fire in the living room. Both bedrooms feature stunning views across Eilean Donan Castle and one of the en-suite bathrooms features a bath – perfect for a long soak after a day of exploring. So whether you’re inside or outside, this home is bound to leave you feeling refreshing and inspired. You’ll also be spoiled for choice when it comes to hiking trails and it’s just a short drive to the town of Glenelg. 

Full of Wonder

An interesting fact about this Grade-II listed Georgian mansion is that it played host to President Franklin D.Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor on their honeymoon tour of Scotland. Over a century on, the home is still a true one-of-a-kind that will make any special occasion totally unforgettable. Surrounded by six acres of woodland and gardens — it's not uncommon to see a couple of deer in the morning mist and sheep grazing on the hillside — guests will get a taste of the air of seclusion the moment they drive up to the front door. Inside, it's a mix of handsome wood panelling, roaring fireplaces and lots of comfy furnishings — whatever the weather outside, we can ensure you that you'll never be anything other than cosy here. There's a complimentary daily housekeeping service, along with lots of extra options, including full catering, a welcome greeting with the sound of bagpipes, and a local guide who will show you the best this area has to offer, as well as booking tee times or spa treatments if you so wish. And there really is so much to see and do around here. You can walk to Black Rock Gorge in twenty minutes or the banks of Loch Glass in under an hour. Alternatively, hop in the car and you could be on Avoch or Rosemarkie Beach in around half an hour.

Assynt House

Situated on a working farm and sporting estate in Perthshire, this refurbished Victorian home is a great option for larger groups wanting to explore the Big Tree Country. Due to its elevated position, you'll get stunning panoramic views across Aberfeldy, Ben Lawers, and the surrounding hills. There's a cinema and games room to enjoy here, as well as a private hot tub to soak in as the sun goes down. The large fenced garden has plenty of outdoor seating, as well as BBQ facilities for alfresco dining in the warmer months – and a fire pit for cooler evenings. We suggest hiring a car so you can discover the dramatic landscape of this county with ease.

Beside the Farmhouse

Once the country playground of lairds and ladies, this former hunting lodge sits in the untamed wilderness of the Cairngorms. Acres and acres of grounds are home to a fishing loch with its own jetty, a professionally maintained 9-hole golf course and tennis courts. After a day of action and adventure in the great outdoors, there’s nothing better than soaking in the bubbling hot tub on the patio. Unwind with a single malt by the fire in the sitting room, or opt for an evening in the formal lounge fit for a duke, with its grand piano and wood-panelled walls. With stained-glass windows and a vaulted, beamed ceiling, the dining room reminds us of a church – a beautiful spot to gather the group for a decadent meal. The kitchen’s four-door Aga means country-style feasts are on the menu. There’s more to this home than pure opulence and Victorian splendour. It’s the small details that tie the design to the landscape, like hand-made staircases and the Ossian quotes carved into beams. This place really captures the magic of the Cairngorms. 

Old Milton

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Highlands at this cottage in Invermoriston. The leafy garden is a haven for wildlife, from badgers and birds to deer and elusive pine martens. On chilly evenings, get cosy in front of the living area's log burner with a glass of Scottish whisky. Expect traditional touches in every room – some may consider the decor a tad dated, but we think it only adds to the charm. Behind the house, private woodlands lead onto the Great Glen Way, while the village is about a kilometre away. That said, we think you'll need a car to make the most of the setting – Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness are both within driving distance.

Pine Marten Paradise

Just outside Aviemore, this home is perfect for a family trip to the Highlands. The design is contemporary but still cosy. One living area boasts a log burner – ideal for cosy evenings – while a second snug makes a comfortable hangout for kids and teens. A-frame ceilings and large windows show off the surrounding nature on your doorstep. Speaking of, you're in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Known for its scenic lochs, ancient forest, tree-topped mountain trails, and ski runs, this is a terrific option if you're keen to enjoy the great outdoors.

Cairngorms Cosy

Nestled at the foot of the Torridon Hills, this home promises a true rural retreat in the Scottish Highlands. Inside is cosy and homely, with the wood burner in the living room adding to the ambience. Outdoors, by contrast, offers far-reaching views of the rugged landscape – and while you’re soaking up the vistas, keep an eye out for local wildlife including deers, otters, and golden eagles. Locally, Torridon village has a shop and cafe, or you can head to Achnasheen for an evening meal. And of course, don’t forget to visit the mirrored beauty of Loch Torridon – it’s a must-see in the area. 

Eagles Peak

This former railway lodge with a wood-burning stove and cottage garden couldn't be more charming if it tried. A home of this age does come with its compromises. The living room and twin bedroom are both on the snug side, and the only bathroom is a little dated. It's also worth noting that the Strathspey Steam Railway runs daily just fifteen metres from your door – you'll hear it before you see it. But we think this only adds to the experience of staying here. Location-wise, there's a café and food store within walking distance, and all the highland must-sees, including Aviemore, Loch Morlich, and the Cairngorms National Park, are all just a short drive away.

The Railway Cabin

Tucked beside the River Ness in the heart of Inverness, this peaceful riverside home is perfectly placed for scenic Highland escapes. Inside, the open-plan living space is warmed by a wood-burning stove and softened with moss-green walls and plush textures. Share leisurely breakfasts beneath the chandelier-lit dining table, or curl up by the fire after long walks in the Cairngorms. Three calming bedrooms await at the end of the day, including an en-suite double for added privacy. With Clava Cairns and dolphin-spotting boat tours close by, this charming home makes a relaxed base for adventurers and history-lovers alike.
