Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

Perched on the banks of the Teifi estuary, this renovated former sea captain's villa in southwest Wales treats guests to some spectacular waterside views. On sunny days, these can be enjoyed on the large terrace, whether that's reclining in one of the loungers, lying in the hammock or sitting around the alfresco dining area, waiting for dinner to be served off the barbecue or out of the pizza oven. However, the sparkly panorama can just as easily be appreciated from the huge windows in the open-concept kitchen-dining area or from the bedrooms. When you can prise your eyes away from the beautiful scene outside, you'll find a modern interior that integrates rustic aspects, such as exposed brickwork and a wood-burning fireplace, seamlessly. It's the sort of place you'll look forward to returning on the return leg of a long walk. If you're in need of inspiration, all you have to do is follow the Teifi — half an hour's walk west will get you to Poppit Sands Beach, while the same amount of time in the opposite direction will take you to the town of Cardigan.

From adventure parks, open farms, and Norman castles to fishing trips, hikes, and coastal walks; return home each day feeling refreshed, content, and perhaps a little tired. Don’t worry, you can unwind in your very own, private hot tub. While soaking in the warmth of these spa-like bubbles, take in the green rolling hills all around. The entire outdoor space is designed to take in the view, from the dining table, patio lounge area, and garden, nothing can detract from the natural delights of this haven.

The village of Tresaith on the Ceredigion coastline is relatively humble, but you can find some truly spectacular homes here – this three-storey gem is among them.

It's definitely an address that has been constructed with the surrounding scenery in mind, with sea views to be admired from the balconies and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Even to the rear of the house that isn't so blessed with coastal vistas, there's a peaceful terrace surrounded by flower beds and it's more than possible to enjoy alfresco feasts in this space, thanks to the dining table, pizza oven and barbecue.

Should the weather ever be a little uninspiring, there's plenty to keep guests entertained inside. In the games room alone, you'll find tables for pool and table tennis, as well as a darts board and piano. Once you've exhausted these, the cinema room complete with leather seats and surround sound is the ideal place to watch a movie or some live sports. It's just as easy to escape to the Jacuzzi bathtub and treat yourself to an unrushed soak.

You'll eventually want to head to the seaside at some point and Tresaith Beach is less than ten minutes' away on foot. It's easy to arrange watersport activities here and – if you're lucky – spot dolphins. There's also a waterfall at the far end of the sand, as well.

Looking Good

Overlooking the quaint harbour, this waterfront apartment puts you at the heart of some of Tenby's favourite spots. Stroll to the sleepy seaside town's restaurants and boutique shops, or walk to Tenby North Beach in under ten minutes. The interiors are a little dated, but the home is well-kept, cosy and equipped with most of what you'll need for a comfortable stay – though you'll have to bring your own towels. With views and a central location, this home does well for itself, and the compact balcony is a nice bonus, especially for a nightcap.

Harbour Moon

Set in Gwbert, this home has uninterrupted views over Cardigan Bay, positioned at the mouth of the River Teifi. It's an area that's famous for its sparkling blue seas and dolphin-watching – you may even spot a pod from the kitchen window. Inside, it's open, bright and tastefully decorated with a mix of antique and quirky furnishings. Two of the bedrooms have dreamy sea views, and there's a magazine-worthy glass-fronted porch off the living room where you can sit with a cup of coffee and watch the morning settle over the ocean, following the line of the front garden’s picturesque water feature all the way out to the sea. For active travellers, the nearby activities are endless – you'll find golf courses, stunning beaches within walking distance, shore fishing, pony trekking and a host of cycling paths. The Ceredigion section of the All Wales Coastal Path can be joined with just a five-minute walk from home, and the area is home to a choice of local boat tour operators, should you fancy a closer look at the bay’s famous dolphins.  

Swim Or Dance

Nestled at the edge of the dramatic Cambrian Mountain range, this home is a fantastic base for guests hoping for some adventure. Start the day with a hearty breakfast beside the giant windows and gaze out over the luscious countryside as you plan your itinerary. Keep your eyes peeled and you could spot a red kite – the area is famous for birds of prey. The Brecon Beacons National Park is close by, with cycling and hiking opportunities for all levels of experience. You’re also within driving distance of Cardigan Bay, which is known for its population of bottlenose dolphins – watch them from dry land or hop on one of the boat trips for a closer look. After a busy day out you can return home to a roaring wood burning stove and some tasty Welsh cakes or a glass of wine provided by your host.

This Grade II listed seaside cottage is the perfect base for relaxing breaks on the Pembrokeshire coast. It was lovingly restored and modernised in 2021, so while it still retains its historic charm – and traditional features and layout – it’s now a wonderfully comfortable and cosy cottage. 

The cottage sits just across the road from the sea, so you can be paddling in the shallows of Dale’s beach in no time. From the water sports centre in Dale, you can try your hand at any number of activities, including sailing, surfing, and kayaking. We’d be tempted to give paddleboarding a go, followed by a hearty meal in the award-winning village pub. Of course, you might choose to fish for your supper instead?

Nature-lovers will have plenty to keep them entertained too, with a whole host of coastal walks to enjoy. You might partake in a spot of bird watching on the Gann, or take the ferry to Skomer Island to see the puffins in summer. 

However you spend your days, you’ll be glad to have such a pleasant home from home to return to. When the weather is fine you can tuck into picnic lunches on the front lawn, and admire the sea view as you dine. When it’s a little colder, nothing beats curling up in the living room to play board games together.
