A traditional stone cottage in a rural spot, this lovely place has a few surprises up its sleeve. Far from old fashioned, its interiors are modern and crisp – mixing character features like the old inglenook fireplace and oak beams with inset lighting and neutral decor. And although it feels like a remote location, you're conveniently close to town. We love the pretty master bedroom, with its vaulted ceiling and metal bedstead. From here it's just a stone's throw to the Panorama Walk, which has some of the best views in Snowdonia. Further afield you can visit old slate mines, hop aboard heritage steam trains and explore some of Wales' ancient castles. If seaside activities are more your thing, you can do everything in Barmouth from kayaking and paddle boarding to sandcastle building. The town is packed with quirky shops, cafes and pubs, so there are plenty of options for eating out. Back at the cottage, sit outside before bed and take in some of the best stargazing skies in Wales.

This impeccably designed home has all the trappings of a modern family home, but it's set in a centuries-old converted farm building. Taking full advantage of its stunning rural setting, it's all about sociable, open spaces, big windows and beautiful views. Perfectly placed to offer the best of the coast (it's just two miles to the beach) and Snowdonia, it's a great spot for exploring this beautiful area. 

Inside, you're greeted by crisp, contemporary design, bright white walls and wood floors – with cosy underfloor heating to the entrance level. There's a comfortable living room with a rather stylish log burner in the corner and picture windows, while a few steps down leads through to our favourite room in the house – a vast kitchen and dining space with A-frame beams and a dual aspect. Open it right up to the patio on either side for evening barbecues or summer breakfasts.

Elsewhere, each of the three bedrooms comes with an en-suite and we love the vaulted ceilings and far-reaching views across the fields and hills from the upstairs rooms.

Step inside, and this is the ultimate Welsh dream cottage – with exposed beams, chocolate-box windows, a made-for-action Aga cooker, and an inglenook fireplace at its heart. While upstairs, the serene bedrooms are pared back and unfussy, letting those pretty garden scenes and magnificent mountain panoramas seen through every bedroom window do all the talking. 

When it’s time to don your walking boots and get out exploring, you’re spoilt for choice here. Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in Southern Snowdonia, is on your doorstep – as is Castell y Bere, with its historical ruins strung along the foot of the mountains. Or, pack up a beach bag and head to the vast shores of Tywyn for a wander along its five miles of sandy beaches backed by a promenade and dunes. For a blast of sea air, Abermaw Beach in Barmouth, less than a twenty-five-minute drive from home, has golden sands which are perfect for basking or swimming. It’s a wonderful base for exploring the national park, but staying home is just as much of a treat here. You can enjoy riverside views from the garden, where you’ll have a barbecue. The bridge was built in 1879 as a replacement for a ferry crossing and the cottage is said to have been added to around the 1900s. The cottage can sleep up to two guests, with a kitchen, dining and lounge nestled around the cosy log burner, perfect for an evening in around the fire. There's also a shower room, and double bedroom with striped wooden walls all around which just adds to the character and charm. Outside enjoy expansive and uninterrupted views on the terrace – the ideal place to relax, watch the local wildlife and immerse in the breath-taking scenery. And of course, you can also watch the occasional car, bike or group of walkers go by during the day and crossing the historic bridge. You’ll wake up in a comfortable bed feeling deeply rested after the kind of sleep you can only get in the countryside, where the night is darker and quieter than city-dwellers can imagine. The farmhouse overlooks Cader Idris, and there are magnificent views from almost every angle – stay awhile in bed, sipping a cuppa and drinking in the vista. The farmhouse is cosy in a rustic way, with original slate floors and exposed beams, and with ambient warmth provided by the inglenook open fire, the wood burner and the Aga – you’ll want to pack your warmest woollies for cold weather. The Grade II listed building was built as a farmhouse in the early 19th century and has since become a haven for those looking for some peace and quiet. It’s full of traditional touches, from the exposed beams and roll-top bath to the slate fireplace and wood-burning stove in the old hearth. On arrival, a welcome pack of tea, coffee and local treats awaits in the country-style kitchen. Outside the view takes centre stage, with the green fields giving way to rugged peaks. Savour that panorama with a drink at the picnic area. Hikers and walkers will be glad to know that Snowdonia’s epic landscapes are on your doorstep, as you’re in the south of the sprawling National Park. There are trails suitable for seasoned pros and newbies alike. The golden beach of Abermaw in Barmouth is also close by (a twenty-minute drive) for those fancying some sea air. When you’re craving sustenance, stroll into nearby Dolgellau (less than 2 miles away) for some drinks and tasty pub grub.

If you want to explore towns and villages of the North Wales coast, you're in the right place – Fairbourne is just a fifteen-minute drive away, a small but charming seaside village, where you can hop on a water taxi or steam train to the bustling seaside town of Barmouth. 

However you spend the day, you'll love coming home to your cosy cottage. Wrap up and sip downers out on the patio, taking in the breathtaking sunset with panoramic views of the rolling hills and mountains. The majestic mountain views of Cadair Idris took our breath away when we visited this secluded home. Clad in Virginia creeper that turns a stunning fiery red in the autumn, this cottage, surrounded by farmland, is as pretty as a picture. It’s a paradise for bird watchers with an array of wildlife, or if you’re a fan of planes, you can enjoy watching them from the garden as the valley is a training area for aircraft. 

When night falls do a spot of star gazing here, the dark skies reveal a multitude of sparkling jewels. The incredible vistas can be enjoyed from inside too, or gather around the wood burner in the inglenook fireplace when the weather turns chilly. 

Out and about, explore Snowdonia National Park, including Dolgellau, a fifteen-minute drive. Or, for a day by the coast, head to Tywyn on Cardigan Bay, around thirty minutes in the car.

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

The best spot to enjoy them is the garden's picnic table, but nearly every room boasts a scenic outlook. Even the living area offers a glimpse of the mountains – and with the wood burner crackling away, it's the definition of cosy. Most of all, though, we love the location. Only one mile from Dolgellau, you'll have easy access to The Mawddach Trail (perfect for cycling) and Barmouth Beach (9 miles away) – not to mention a bevvy of walking and hiking routes to suit all abilities.

Nestled into a square in the charming village of Tremadog, just a ten-minute walk from Porthmadog, this Grade II listed building makes for the perfect North Wales getaway. With Snowdonia National Park and its endless quaint towns, beaches, hiking trails, and historical sights on your doorstep, this cottage is a wonderful choice whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure. 

This home is one that lends itself to any occasion. Rich colours, exposed brick, and traditional touches make the living room cosy and inviting – you’ll love settling into the snug armchairs in the morning, with the light piercing through the windows, while the warming log-burning fire cuts through the early cold. Your kitchen is just as cosy and comforting, but it’s also practical. It’s kitted out with top-notch appliances that make home-cooked meals a breeze, while the dining room invites family and friends to settle in for light-hearted evenings of good food, games, drinks, and conversation. 

French doors lead you out to the charming patio, which is particularly lovely in the warmer months. And while even summer can’t promise warm weather in Wales, the hot tub is sure to warm you up. Having appeared on a couple of popular TV shows, it’s no surprise that this modern marvel is a perfect place to stay for friends and families alike. Cool and contemporary inside, it’s quite the contrast to the rugged landscape surrounding it. Just take care with the cliff edge – little ones and four-legged friends will need to be supervised.

There were plenty of reasons why this penthouse apartment made it into our collection, but let's start with the most obvious. When guests step out onto the ornate white balcony, they're greeted with stunning views over the Dyfi Estuary and Cardigan Bay, stretching all the way down the Ceredigion Coastline. As is often the case with coastal locations, there's just so much sky and this uninterrupted panorama brings the added benefit of meaning the interior is flooded with natural light through the windows and skylights. This is emphasised pleasingly by the stark white walls and it makes for a wonderfully bright space to sprawl out on the tan leather sofa. As you can probably tell from looking out the window, Aberdyfi Beach sits just across the street and there are cafes and pubs along the seafront for when you fancy a refreshment. Slightly further afield, there are opportunities for birdwatching in RSPB Ynys-hir and Dyfi Osprey Project, both taking around half an hour to reach in the car.

Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

The Marquess

This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). Two dogs are welcome to join you here, plus there’s a sweet welcome pack with Prosecco provided for your arrival. Outside, you’ll find everything you could need on the doorstep. From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

With underfloor heating in the open-plan living and dining area, you’ll welcome the warmth seeping through your slippers after a long day exploring the surrounding countryside. For added cosiness, light the fire, settle down on the sofa, uncork a bottle of red, and enjoy quality time with your loved one. 

As daylight creeps through your curtains in the mornings, hop out of bed (just mind the beams), rustle up a spot of breakfast and enjoy a morning coffee in your courtyard as the countryside wakes around you and happy birdsong fills the air. From your home, there are plenty of rural walks to enjoy – take a look at the maps and recommended routes provided in your cottage and you’ll soon be on your way. For a bite to eat, you may want to venture into Llangollen, where a great selection of delicious restaurants serves up local cuisine from their riverside location. 

Happy as a Lark

We may have found the most adorable home for two. This former milking parlour is one of a small group of cottages in the heart of the Anglesey countryside. Rural, secluded and perfectly in tune with nature, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down. Wander down secret paths in the extensive grounds then take a seat on the deck to watch the dragonflies hovering above the water. The fishing lake is well stocked and there can surely be few more idyllic places for casting a line. Inside the single-storey stone cottage, you’ll find pine furniture, pretty coordinating fabrics and a log burner to warm your toes by. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. Stock up for supper in the bustling market town of Llangefni, before hunkering down for the night together.

Tucked away down a quiet country lane lies this comfortable and cosy barn conversion, just outside Dolgellau. Wake up each morning to dramatic mountain views through the bedroom’s Velux window, and on sunny days, enjoy a leisurely breakfast alfresco in the south-facing garden which offers uninterrupted panoramas of the impressive Cadair Idris mountain range. 

This home is a great base to explore southern Snowdonia with plenty of walks and cycle trails not far away from your door. Plus, Abermaw beach at Barmouth is just nine miles away where you can bathe in the sun, wander the village or even have a go at paddleboarding. 

In the evening, we would love to fire up the barbecue for an alfresco meal, accompanied by vistas of woodland and mountains. Then get cosy for a night snuggled up on the sofa, warming your feet on the underfloor heating.

This stately manor sits on the outskirts of Dolgellau, offering market-town charm and nearby amenities in the Snowdonia National Park. A grand home for family get-togethers, this building steeped in political history, now serves as a contemporary retreat for the whole group – and your furry friends. A games room awaits, as well as outdoor seating spots and a hot tub in the garden. While the local shop a stroll away is a handy bonus, cars are necessary for visits to Cadair Idris mountain and hikes along the popular Mawddach Trail.

This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. There's a lovely view of this hilly terrain from the home's private garden, which comes with a gas barbecue and plenty of seating for when the weather plays ball. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Both Criccieth and Aberdesach beaches can be reached in under a quarter of an hour in the car, while you can also visit the old slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog, only a half-hour drive away.

If you aren’t planning to summit it yourself, you can simply enjoy the scenery with your own homemade barbecue or morning coffee. This unique home is made up of two slate quarryman's cottages and steeped in history, retaining original features such as the slate walls and large hearths. After long scenic walks, you’ll be pleased to find wood-burning stoves in both the living room and dining room to keep you cosy. Unwind under the exposed beams or fix up a meal at the kitchen island. It’s a space that’s both charming and comfortable, with bedrooms that feel just like home and bathrooms that benefit from a modern renovation. You’ll also be just a twenty-minute drive from the market town of Dolgellau and twelve minutes from Machynlleth, where you'll find a fantastic selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. For a trip to the seaside, Snowdonia's sandy beaches are within a half an hour’s drive away.

We think it's great for families, with your host providing a cot and high chair for little ones and allowing up to two dogs to join you. Books and games are provided for entertainment, and the wood burning stove adds that extra layer of homeliness. You'll have easy access to Snowdonia, Moel Siabod, and Conwy, making this home a great stay for hikers, bikers, and anyone hoping to explore the Welsh coastline.

Picture the scene — you've just spent a long day in the great Welsh outdoors and you're faced with the choice of snuggling up by the crackling log burner, lying back into a steamy bath or sitting out in the garden and watching the sky go through its dramatic daily transformation. This is the sort of difficult decision you face when you choose this cute cottage as your next getaway.

This is a home that's completely dedicated to cosiness, right down to the rustic decor touches, like the wooden ceiling beams and soft furnishings. Another way to feel completely at peace is by looking through the wide window in the master bathroom, which faces Malltraeth Marsh, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest that's great for birdwatching.

It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Migratory Patterns

In the idyllic mining own of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this home was once an old chapel dating back to 1861. The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. There’s a pool table here too, which is boung to keep both the kids and grown-ups entertained for a few hours. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

The Chapel Doors

Every home has a story, and this peaceful hillside barn dates back over two hundred years. Original features like the solid wooden A-frame have been carefully preserved, with practical changes made to the design to facilitate modern living. 

The home sits on on the outskirts of Coed-y-Brenin forest, renowned for its cycling tracks and luscious woodlands – so it’s the perfect escape for lovers of nature and adventure. With gorgeous walking trails, a waterfall, nature reserve, mountains and lakes at your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore even if cycling is not for you. 

In the evenings, sit out on your patio with a glass of wine and look over the open grounds, where ducks, sheep and pigs roam. Between cosy dinners, film sessions and competitive games evenings, there’s plenty to look forward to after a day of adventure.
