If you're a keen birdwatcher, you'll love this home's location on the banks of Foryd Bay, a nature reserve in North Wales that sees huge numbers of different species migrate to the area for winter. It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Immaculately converted from a milking parlour, this home sits on a hilltop adjacent to a working farm. The barn served as a dairy for five generations of the same family who still reside here and now run a renowned bakery, supplying indulgent local treats – such as Welsh cakes – to shops across North Wales. Sample these goodies from your welcome hamper, alongside ale and cider from a neighbouring brewery. Inside the home, you’ll find an open-plan living space that’s both stylish and extremely comfortable. A couple of nods to its history come in the form of cow-skin rugs and a milk pail for the wood burner’s logs. Step out the living room’s pretty French doors and onto your private grassy garden. In fine weather, grab a chilled bottle of wine and fire up the barbecue for dinner – at this elevation, the views are spectacular, across Snowdonia and the North Wales coastline, as far as Holyhead and across the channel to Ireland on a clear day. Getting to the region’s sights – including Ffestiniog Railway, Caernarfon Castle, Zipworld and Portmeirion – doesn’t take long at all. Plus, the closest beach, Dinas Dinlle, is just a ten-minute drive away.

You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. There's a lovely view of this hilly terrain from the home's private garden, which comes with a gas barbecue and plenty of seating for when the weather plays ball. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Both Criccieth and Aberdesach beaches can be reached in under a quarter of an hour in the car, while you can also visit the old slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog, only a half-hour drive away.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

When we say this is a historic home, we really mean it. A Roman bathhouse is said to have once stood here, and the current house could be the oldest in the county of Gwynedd – it dates back to around 1543. There are period features everywhere, from the inglenook fireplace to the traditional wooden beams and even an arrow-slit-style window. The garden is just as magical and makes a lovely spot for mealtimes or a relaxing glass of wine while admiring the bluebells. A pond, plenty of trees and a small stream, make it a haven for local wildlife too.

Snowdonia is a twenty minute drive away, where adventurous types can climb hills and ride through jaw-dropping natural mountain biking trails and valleys to their heart’s content. Dwyfor Rabbit Farm delivers fun family activities where you can feed the bunnies. Take a walk along the golden sand, spruced with pebbles and a rocky area that lines Criccieth beaches, exposing rock pools at low tide. Come home for a soak in the Victorian tub, a warm drink by the fire, and then climb into the antique French bed to dream about the days to come.

You’ll also need to mind your head on the sloping ceiling of the second-floor bedroom and en-suite WC, but the vistas from each floor and the water-facing balcony more than make up for it. Bangor, Snowdonia National Park, Caernarfon and Anglesey are all within driving distance, so this is a great option for exploring North Wales.

Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

By splitting eighteen guests into three smaller groups, the bright homes ensure everyone's privacy whilst also providing communal spaces in which to make memories. Sit out on the picnic benches to enjoy meals alfresco, or spend evenings socialising with pints. Take to the leafy shade of the nearby tree and enjoy tea and Welsh cakes for makeshift afternoon tea, and when you want to move indoors, choose the largest of the three cottages to make use of the space on offer. The largest cottage also has a ground floor bedroom and wetroom with disability access if anyone in the group does have reduced mobility. 

Stargaze in the garden after sunset, enjoy the green landscapes visible from the patio, and when you need a moment to yourself, watch the sunrise with your first cup of coffee from the small bistro table outside.

Explore the famous Snowdonia – it happens to be one of the views on offer at the rough-stone cottages – or head to the beach for sandcastles and salty surf. Explore the rural surroundings and coast in your own leisurely time as you relax and unwind in this wonderfully rustic and homely space.

The Three Stony Sisters

Nestled in a lovely complex on the Isle of Anglesey, this stone brick cottage is a wonderful choice for your seaside getaway. With pristine beaches within easy reach, coastal paths galore, and plenty more activities, there’s a great mix of relaxation and adventure in store. 

Start your days in the sunny communal courtyard, chatting away or catching up on your book, while savouring a nice hot coffee. After you’re sufficiently energised and ready to explore, you’re just a mile away from the small village of Trefdraeth. Or you can venture slightly further to the coast at Malltraeth, just 2.3 miles away. For something a bit different than exploring the coast or following hiking trails, you can visit Anglesey Sea Zoo, the Agriculture Museum, or Foel Farm Park.

Back home, your bright interior is the perfect welcome. You’re never far from nature, with a view of the garden from the Juliet balcony peeking through. Take time to relax on the comfy sofa, before whipping up dinner in your well-equipped kitchen. For more sociable evenings, head down to the courtyard – ideal for larger groups – and enjoy a night of good food, drinks, and conversation. 

Flowerpot Cottage

You’ll feel right at home the moment you step into this vibrant, characterful cottage. All the eclectic touches, colourful rugs, period features, and overflowing bookshelves make this home feel cheerful and loved. The bedrooms are equally comforting and warm, and the twin room will please the kids (even big ones). In the morning, as you sip your coffee, the quaint kitchen glows with the warmth of the AGA. On warmer days, sit together on the patio for big lunches, and come evening, stargaze into the night with a mug of hot chocolate. Here on the coastline of North Wales, you’ll have a great view of the stars, and plenty of activities come the daytime. Drive for 10-minutes and hit Criccieth Beach - an award-winning beach with a mix of sand and shingle. Build sandcastles, or visit the real 13th-century castle, Castell Cricieth. Walk, hike or cycle through Snowdonia National Park, a 45-minute drive away, or spend days closer to the dream-house in the town of Porthmadog. This cottage and its backdrop are straight from a storybook, and like all good books, you won't want your stay to end.

Distant Colours

Explore Anglesey from this east-coast escape, just steps away from the coastal path – which offers a 130-mile circular route past the island's secluded coves, vast sandy beaches and captivating villages – it's an ideal base for hikers and bikers. However, with far-reaching sea views from all rooms at the front of the house and the front garden seating area, you won't have to move far to appreciate the island's beauty. Centrally located in the quaint former fishing village of Moelfre, you'll find a convenience store, a couple of cafes and a pub a short stroll away, while it's a five-minute drive to the neighbouring village of Benllech, where there are a couple of supermarkets for stocking up on essentials. 


Seen From the Sea

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The Bodnant Estate offers ten luxury self-catering cottages, including Ty Newydd, sleeping eight guests, and Lletty, sleeping six guests. The estate features hilly and wooded countryside in the lower reaches of the Conwy Valley and various houses and cottages available for rent as holiday lets. The cozy cottage has been sympathetically extended to provide generous openings between the main rooms and includes a wood-burning stove, oak floors, an enclosed garden, garden furniture, barbecue, and Wi-Fi. Guests can explore over 20 miles of private paths winding through woods and farms across the estate or visit the world-famous Bodnant Garden owned by the National Trust. Fishing permits are available at Bodnant Garden Centre. Other nearby attractions include Zip World Fforest, Adventure Parc Snowdonia, Welsh Mountain Zoo, sandy beaches of Llandudno, Conwy and Colwyn Bay, Penrhyn Castle and several Welsh castles.

The Time Machine

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

Charming where it sits on a bend of a lane in rural Dolwyddelan, this terraced stone cottage has become a welcoming base for small families or groups of friends exploring Snowdonia National Park. From the back garden, where a hot tub and dining table are perfect accompaniments to sunny days, you can also enjoy views of Snowdon and Moel Siabod. The kitchen is small and best suited to small bites, but you're close to several restaurants in the town centre. Cosy, bright and brimming with character, this home is also 6km from Betws-y-Coed Golf Club and 18km from Penmaenmawr.

With five bedrooms, a long sycamore dining table and luscious green lawns, there’s no excuse for not inviting the whole family for a trip to this Welsh farmhouse. The 16th-century building is full of historical details – look out for the old baking oven, chapel benches and even a coat of arms on the ceiling. Kids and teenagers will be glad to know they can escape to the den, complete with toys, bean bags and games – there’s even a games room, where young and old alike can get competitive playing table tennis and foosball. With plenty to keep the children entertained, enjoy a cosy evening beside the roaring fire, while admiring the rustic beamed ceilings and brickwork hearth as you catch up with relatives, get lost in a good book or even fit in a little snooze before dinner. A short eleven-minute drive will take you to Denbigh Castle, with its ancient walls and bustling art scene in town. You can also head to the long sandy beaches of North Wales in less than half an hour by car, or pull on your hiking boots and enjoy a stunning walk through the Vale of Clwyd – it is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all.

Snuggled at the southern point of Snowdonia National Park in Sarnau, this quaint abode is made for rural exploration. If you don't fancy the challenging terrains of Snowdon, there are various walking and cycling trails close by to the cottage.

This snug home infuses a homespun and rustic feel with modern comforts. Find stone walls and wooden beams looking into a TV, DVD player and contemporary cooking items. It's the perfect blend of tradition and technology. 

To really capture the privacy and peace of your home, sit out on the garden bench and admire the stunning views. Situated in a quiet hamlet, the only sounds you'll hear are from the animals in the nearby fields.

If you'd prefer to get out and explore the nearby area, the encompassing landscape is blessed with numerous mountain biking trails. If two wheels aren't your scene, Bala is just four miles away and is an oasis of water sports, abseiling and kayaking.

Once you've explored the diverse scenery around your tranquil haven, visit the welcoming pubs and restaurants around Bala. For a real Welsh treat, a Michelin star restaurant resides up the road in Llandrillo.

We may have found the most adorable home for two. This former milking parlour is one of a small group of cottages in the heart of the Anglesey countryside. Rural, secluded and perfectly in tune with nature, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down. Wander down secret paths in the extensive grounds then take a seat on the deck to watch the dragonflies hovering above the water. The fishing lake is well stocked and there can surely be few more idyllic places for casting a line. Inside the single-storey stone cottage, you’ll find pine furniture, pretty coordinating fabrics and a log burner to warm your toes by. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. Stock up for supper in the bustling market town of Llangefni, before hunkering down for the night together.

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn
