A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. This home in the charming coastal village is Abersoch is strikingly modern, with sleek glass dominating the facade, all the better to take in that sea view. You’re within walking distance of the beach – the soft sand of Abersoch Bay is three minutes on foot. If you want something more grand and sweeping than the harbour-side beach, head to Porth Neigwl, a six-minute drive away. The home itself has some serious wow-factor, starting with the hot tub in the garden and plush rattan sofa set on the patio, perfect for evening cocktails or barbecue lunch. Inside, you’ll find the main living room on the top floor, taking advantage of a view over the village out to where the fishing boats bob out at sea. It’s part of an open-plan living area that spreads across the whole top floor, all natural light from walls of glass and sleek eave angles. Bedrooms are all on the ground floor, with the master opening up to the private garden.

From the outside, this home is slick, stylish and thoroughly modern. However, step inside, and you'll find a beautiful balance of old and new, with bucketloads of character to boot. The smart open-plan kitchen, living and dining areas create a relaxed feel, and the huge sliding patio doors mean that you can effortlessly slip between inside and outside spaces. In the garden, you'll find a patio area complete with sofas and even an outdoor stove which will keep you toasty when the sun goes down. There's another wood-burner inside too, so you can enjoy the gentle sound of crackling logs both inside and out. Upstairs, the sumptuous beds assure you'll get a good night's sleep, and the huge windows will fill the rooms with morning sunlight. The sandy shores of Llanbedrog Beach are just half a mile away, and the charming village of Abersoch is only five minutes away by car. What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

You might drive seven minutes to the beach at Traeth Porthor to paddle and skim stones. Slightly further afield, the Trefor Sea Stacks are forty-eight minutes away by car and well worth a visit. The cottage is less than a mile away from the Wales Coast Path, so you’re never too far from those stunning sea views. 

Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out.

Each unit also has a private patio, but there's plenty of communal space where everyone can come together. The garden also makes for a great escape for taller guests feeling a little contained by the low bedroom ceilings.

The Llyn Peninsula is often overlooked when it comes to planning a getaway in the UK, but it's a region of long stretches of sand, colourful beach huts and yachts bobbing in harbours. This beautifully designed home is a wonderful place to stay in order to see the best of the area. If you get the master bedroom, make sure you throw open those French doors and enjoy the coastal view from the balcony. The kitchen is made for lavish group dining with a dedicated wine fridge and a huge range-style cooker. Every detail has been meticulously thought through — both inside and out, where well-furnished patios feature both an alfresco dining setup and an outdoor lounge to retire to after dessert. Outside the address, the Wales Coast Path is on your doorstep, so you could visit a different beach every day if you so wished. Here, there's some of the best surf in Wales, great for beginners and seasoned surfers alike. History and intrigue are all around — the nearby village of Llangian can be reached in just over half an hour on foot and boasts a sixth-century church, while the spectacular Italianate village of Portmeirion (home of cult classic The Prisoner) is only a forty-five-minute drive away.

Overlooking far-reaching coastal views towards Porth Neigwl and Hell’s Mouth, this converted chapel offers a one-of-a-kind stay, unlike any other holiday experience you've encountered before. An architectural dream, the home retains the old church's original features on the exterior and blends luxury living with a contemporary renovation on the inside. With a huge open layout, the main living space stylishly presents contrasting traditional features including incredibly high ceilings with exposed beams and original stone brickwork. Upstairs, you'll find a cosy corner to cuddle up in after a day on the beach and plenty of games to keep the kids occupied too. Head outside with a glass of wine in hand to take in the stunning views all around. Discover the churchyard graves at the back of the property and a history of life that once graced this home. Perched on the side of Rhiw mountain and in a prime location for enjoying a true countryside escape, you won't be too far away from civilisation – as the beautiful seaside towns of Aberdaron (a fifteen-minute driveway), Abersoch (a twenty-minute drive away) and Porth Neigwl (a twenty-minute driveway). 


Chapel On the Hill

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Maroon yourselves at this luxurious barn retreat for two, nestled away in the beautiful wilds of the Llyn Peninsula and within a mile of a hidden sandy beach.

This once humble barn has experienced quite a transformation of late. It's preserved the old (would you look at those vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework) and embraced the new with a king-sized four-poster bed, freestanding slipper bath, and stove burner, evoking rural romance. 

With wood stacked by the fireplace and a welcome hamper ladened with goodies, you may find you have no desire to venture out. But really you must. Follow the coastal path to the west and discover Porthoer (Whistling Sands) – a National Trust beach with a charming beach-side café where the sand really does whistle when the conditions are right. And just a smidge further, the beautiful seaside village of Aberdaron, at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula (three and a half miles away). With a thatched roofed tea room, seafront restaurants, obligatory fish and chips, and a glorious sandy beach, this place delivers all the Welsh charms you're chasing.

Based in the heart of the Llŷn Peninsula, this home sits in a peaceful spot amongst leafy green shared gardens, and is within easy reach of the beaches of Traeth Penllech and Porth Neigwl, as well as historic spots such as Plas yn Rhiw.

This home is packed with charm and character, with stone walls, beam ceilings and stylish countryside-style decor. There’s something fairytale-esque about this cottage; perhaps it’s the stone walls that call to mind a royal tower, the breathtaking views over the Llyn Peninsula countryside, or the crackling wood burner drawing guests into the heart of the living room. But one thing’s for sure, this home skews far more modern than medieval. Four-poster beds sit across from luxurious spa bathtubs, the conservatory is the site of many a foosball tournament as well as views over the Rhiw mountains, and the infrared sauna is definitely a 21st-century addition. With all of the usual mod-cons, chic decor, and a lovely rural location, this one just about ticks all our boxes. If you can tear yourself away from the home, you’re just ten minutes in the car from the gorgeous beaches and coastal walks of the peninsula.

Get set to make memories in this idyllic countryside cottage, where you can spend your days exploring the surrounding rolling hills. Kids will love running free around the large enclosed lawn, complete with a climbing frame, football goals and a trampoline. If an adventure is on the cards, hop in the car and head to the coast, where you'll find miles of inviting golden sands, hidden coves and quaint fishing villages within a fifteen-minute drive of your home. When you've worked up an appetite, the extravagant dining table can accommodate everyone for a family feast (the two ovens in the kitchen makes cooking a breeze, too). Gather around the fire pit and share stories over a bottle of wine, or head to the private sauna to relax and recharge after a busy day. On the upper floor, sink into one of three comfy leather sofas and admire the Rhiw mountain views or distant vistas of the Llyn Peninsula while you snuggle up in front of the log fire.

A two-minute walk from the fine sands and shallow water of Abersoch Harbour Beach, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking for a modern seaside escape. Inside, light and space are cleverly maximised – we loved the open-plan living area with its enormous windows and double-height ceilings. Your mornings begin here with a coffee on the comfortable sofa before choosing to breakfast on one of the sun trap balconies. 

If exploring is on the agenda, lace up your hiking boots and follow the Wales Coastal Path to Pwllheli or stay local and take the ten-minute amble into the heart of town for indie shops and fantastic seafood eateries. Surfing enthusiasts should make a beeline for Hell’s Mouth, a seven-minute drive away – keep an eye out for Bottlenose dolphins as you carve through the waves. When the day draws to a close, head back to your pad for a chilled glass of wine as the sun starts to set and an early night in the cosy bedrooms, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. Inside, it’s cottage-chic with wooden floors and nautical decor touches – driftwood fireplaces and anchor cushions. The main living area is open plan, on the ground floor, where a living room is set around an electric stove and the big breakfasting table is set for six. Upstairs, a more formal living room opens up onto the top terrace with views out over the harbour below.

Alternatively, head over to the long sandy beach at Morfa Nefyn, only seven minutes away in the car.

Sitting in the middle of the countryside at the far end of the Llyn Peninsula, this stone cottage makes for a wonderful place to visit regardless of the season.

Come during the warmer months and there are plenty of spots to relax out in the open air, whether reading in one of the egg chairs, clinking glasses in the covered bar area or dining out on the terrace – perhaps a meal cooked on the pizza oven or barbecue. Whichever one you choose, you can enjoy sweeping views of North Welsh fields and hillsides.

However, if you're paying a visit during the colder months, it's just as easy to get toasty and warm inside. When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there are beaches in almost every direction, including Porth Neigwl only ten minutes' drive away. Plas Yn Rhiw manor house and gardens make for a sedate afternoon out and are only a ten-minute drive away too, while Abersoch takes about double that time to reach.

If you like your holidays with a side order of seclusion, you're sure to fall for this handsome stone home in North Wales. Not only can it be found at the far end of the naturally isolated Llyn Peninsula, but the property itself lies in the middle of a working farm and is only accessible via a half-mile-long track off the main road.

This peaceful position is only made better by the gorgeous views of rolling fields and the Irish Sea stretching out to the distant horizon, which you can enjoy this coastal vista from one of the two patio areas. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, it's easy to get toasty inside, whether next to the wood-burning fireplace or in the freestanding bathtub.

We also have a lot of kind words for the design. There are plenty of rustic aspects that are typical of cottages of the region, including exposed stonework, flagstone flooring and wooden ceiling beams, but you can spot plenty of contemporary flourishes, too – the sleek kitchen and bathrooms are perhaps the best examples.

When you can no longer resist the call of the seaside, Penllech Beach takes less than ten minutes to reach in the car and is just one of a number of sandy spots to be discovered in the local area. The town of Abersoch is only a twenty-minute drive when you want to treat yourself to a meal out.
