A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

This whitewashed converted farmhouse is a wonderful choice for welcoming families or groups of friends to enjoy the beauty of the Llyn Peninsula. Surrounded by vast greenery and steps away from the coast, it's a fairytale getaway come to life.

This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. Here, you can shed the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life, while still keeping ahold of modern comforts. Lovely accents of green brighten up the home, which is cloaked in soothing shades of grey. But that's not to say it isn't without its traditional charm. The original stone fireplace stands in front of centre of the dining room, while the warmth of the wood burner permeates the home. You'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere as scenic and relaxing as the Llyn Peninsula. This cute little cottage makes the most of its location right on the seafront. It’s just steps away from a small sandy bay where the sea laps at the shore of the Llyn Peninsula. You’ll be in the heart of Abersoch village, a charming harbour town where fishing boats bob in the water and beach cafés line the shore. If you like your beaches long and practically deserted, it’s an eight-minute drive to Porth Neigwl. The cottage itself is fishing-village white on the outside and has a handful of balconies and terraces all facing the beautiful sea view. There’s a walled patio with an outdoor fire for chilly evenings and a dining table on the terrace for sunny days. That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. Inside, it’s cottage-chic with wooden floors and nautical decor touches – driftwood fireplaces and anchor cushions. The main living area is open plan, on the ground floor, where a living room is set around an electric stove and the big breakfasting table is set for six. Upstairs, a more formal living room opens up onto the top terrace with views out over the harbour below.

Outside the address, the Wales Coast Path is on your doorstep, so you could visit a different beach every day if you so wished. Here, there's some of the best surf in Wales, great for beginners and seasoned surfers alike. History and intrigue are all around — the nearby village of Llangian can be reached in just over half an hour on foot and boasts a sixth-century church, while the spectacular Italianate village of Portmeirion (home of cult classic The Prisoner) is only a forty-five-minute drive away.

This once humble barn has experienced quite a transformation of late. It's preserved the old (would you look at those vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework) and embraced the new with a king-sized four-poster bed, freestanding slipper bath, and stove burner, evoking rural romance. 

With wood stacked by the fireplace and a welcome hamper ladened with goodies, you may find you have no desire to venture out. But really you must. Follow the coastal path to the west and discover Porthoer (Whistling Sands) – a National Trust beach with a charming beach-side café where the sand really does whistle when the conditions are right. And just a smidge further, the beautiful seaside village of Aberdaron, at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula (three and a half miles away). With a thatched roofed tea room, seafront restaurants, obligatory fish and chips, and a glorious sandy beach, this place delivers all the Welsh charms you're chasing.

The White Rock

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Follow the coastal path which runs close to the house, for rambling walks through stunning scenery. Machroes Beach backs onto Abersoch golf course, where you can have a swing and a putt on their 18-hole course overlooking the ocean.

The cottage is comfortable and warm, with king-size beds and a splendid open-plan living and dining space. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to start each day with a cooked breakfast – tuck in and get set up for a day of exploring. 

You might drive seven minutes to the beach at Traeth Porthor to paddle and skim stones. Slightly further afield, the Trefor Sea Stacks are forty-eight minutes away by car and well worth a visit. The cottage is less than a mile away from the Wales Coast Path, so you’re never too far from those stunning sea views. 

Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out. 


Cosy On The Coast

Experience the beauty of the Llyn Peninsula from a beautiful working farm, where you'll find three utterly charming stone cottages overlooking the rolling farmland. With a short drive between you and Porth Neigwl, Porth Ysgo, Traeth Porthor and Traeth Penllech, this home is ideal for beach lovers. Though the style might feel a little dated in parts, we love the space this offers large groups across the three cottages – each with a living area and kitchen. Each unit also has a private patio, but there's plenty of communal space where everyone can come together. The garden also makes for a great escape for taller guests feeling a little contained by the low bedroom ceilings. 

Gwydion's Cottage

This home is situated just a short distance from the shops and beaches of Abersoch, making for a convenient base for a small family visiting the Llŷn Peninsula. You’ll benefit from a private balcony with pleasant views over the green neighbourhood, while the interior is modern and comfy – if a bit sparse. Space may be on the compact side but there’s enough room for everyone to find a quiet nook, with a dining area for family meals and an outdoor table for morning coffee and sunset drinks. If exploring is on the agenda, lace up your hiking boots and follow the Wales Coastal Path to Pwllheli or stay local and take the ten-minute amble into the heart of town for indie shops and fantastic seafood eateries. The wood-burner in the living room is lovely to hunker down next to at the end of the day, while the foosball table should keep you entertained during rainy afternoons.
