What this place lacks in state-of-the-art facilities, it more than makes up for in home comforts, boasting cosy living and sleeping quarters that’ll make you feel at ease the second you step over the threshold. Spend your evenings snuggled up by the fire, your favourite song playing on the record player, or head outside for a spot of stargazing in the garden before retiring to your comfy bedroom for a good night’s rest. 

If you fancy getting out and about when you wake up, there are plenty of destinations to choose from. Go for a walk in the shadow of Mount Snowdon, treat yourself to a hearty pub lunch in nearby Dolwyddelan, or pack your bucket and spade and set off for a day of sun, surf, and sand at the nearest beach. Then, when you've had your fill of the great outdoors, come home and unwind with a board game in the conservatory. Anyone for Monopoly? 

Wolf Cottage

A spacious four-bedroom home on the island of Anglesey, located next to Rhosneigr railway station and just a ten-minute walk from the beach, this home is ideal for group getaways with friends and family. 

Both inside and out, you'll find features that point to the building's history – from the exposed stone wall in the living room that was part of the original 1850 cottage to the hot tub in the garden and the years in between.

Nearby, there's not one but two award-winning sandy beaches – Traeth Crigyll and Traeth Llydan – which are popular with watersports lovers. And if you're not into adrenaline-pumping activities, a simple walk along the dune-backed beach brings its own pleasure. Alternatively, Anglesey Golf Club is just a five-minute walk away. All that sea air will likely leave you feeling hungry. Handily, The Oyster Catcher serves up a sumptuous seasonal menu of locally sourced produce just a five-minute drive away.

Imagine Dragons

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

The Marquess

This townhouse apartment is ideal for families and friend groups looking for a peaceful coastal retreat. There's never a dull moment here, thanks to the board games for all ages, the pool table, and the hot tub out on the private terrace. Just so you know, the home is spread over three floors, so it may not suit those who struggle with stairs. Pwllheli Beach is an easy walk away, and the nearby town has restaurants, shops and pubs to enjoy.

The Saltair

Explore Anglesey from this east-coast escape, just steps away from the coastal path – which offers a 130-mile circular route past the island's secluded coves, vast sandy beaches and captivating villages – it's an ideal base for hikers and bikers. However, with far-reaching sea views from all rooms at the front of the house and the front garden seating area, you won't have to move far to appreciate the island's beauty. Centrally located in the quaint former fishing village of Moelfre, you'll find a convenience store, a couple of cafes and a pub a short stroll away, while it's a five-minute drive to the neighbouring village of Benllech, where there are a couple of supermarkets for stocking up on essentials. 


Seen From the Sea

Picture the scene — you've just spent a long day in the great Welsh outdoors and you're faced with the choice of snuggling up by the crackling log burner, lying back into a steamy bath or sitting out in the garden and watching the sky go through its dramatic daily transformation. This is the sort of difficult decision you face when you choose this cute cottage as your next getaway.

This is a home that's completely dedicated to cosiness, right down to the rustic decor touches, like the wooden ceiling beams and soft furnishings. Another way to feel completely at peace is by looking through the wide window in the master bathroom, which faces Malltraeth Marsh, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest that's great for birdwatching.

It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Migratory Patterns

This is the kind of home you need when your mind, body and soul are feeling a little tired. It’s a 200-year-old stone farmhouse nestled in a valley amid the dramatic hills of Snowdonia and 25 acres of ancient woodland. This award-winning home (mentioned by House & Garden and Home & Antiques) will pull you way off the grid, allowing for a tranquil escape for those wanting to get back in touch with the slow pace of nature. Staying here, you can breathe freely and rest easy, away from the hum of electronics and the stress of the modern world. There’s magic here, from the natural spring that provides the water, to the ancient trees that stand sentinel around the property. 

You’ll wake up in a comfortable bed feeling deeply rested after the kind of sleep you can only get in the countryside, where the night is darker and quieter than city-dwellers can imagine. The farmhouse overlooks Cader Idris, and there are magnificent views from almost every angle – stay awhile in bed, sipping a cuppa and drinking in the vista. The farmhouse is cosy in a rustic way, with original slate floors and exposed beams, and with ambient warmth provided by the inglenook open fire, the wood burner and the Aga – you’ll want to pack your warmest woollies for cold weather. Truly off-grid, you'll find no mod cons here, but the electricity from the solar panels provides soft, atmospheric lighting in the table lamps. Bathrooms are lit by candles or battery- operated lanterns.

Your host is at hand to welcome you and ensure you make the most of your stay here, with a welcome gift, a house manual, and a recommended list of essentials, fun things to do, and restaurants to visit. You might spend your day hiking the National Trust Cregganan lakes (a twenty-minute drive away) or bird-watching in the nearby RSPB woodland. Active types will be in their element here, with white water rafting, wild swimming and sailing in Lake Bala all within a short drive from your door. Mountain bikers can head fifteen minutes to Coed y Brenin for scenic off-beaten tracks and traditional pubs. There are also beaches to explore in Barmouth, where you can choose to paddle board or sit back and relax on the sand. Pick up supplies in the market town of Dolgellau for a heart-warming dinner back home or stop off at a pub for a bite to eat in the evening, then make your way back along the track for an evening of stargazing around the fire pit. It’s the perfect way to end a day in the countryside.

Stay in the quaint toll keeper's cottage, which oozes old world charm with amazing waterside views. The bridge was built in 1879 as a replacement for a ferry crossing and the cottage is said to have been added to around the 1900s. The cottage can sleep up to two guests, with a kitchen, dining and lounge nestled around the cosy log burner, perfect for an evening in around the fire. There's also a shower room, and double bedroom with striped wooden walls all around which just adds to the character and charm. Outside enjoy expansive and uninterrupted views on the terrace – the ideal place to relax, watch the local wildlife and immerse in the breath-taking scenery. And of course, you can also watch the occasional car, bike or group of walkers go by during the day and crossing the historic bridge. The adjacent cycle track, the Mawddach trail, that used to be the old railway track is perfect for strolls as well as bikes. Slightly further afield is the seaside town of Barmouth that includes stunning sandy beaches, and the traditional market town of Dolgellau offering a range of artisan shops and weekly farmers market is only two miles away. The foothills of the majestic Cadir and Idris are on the near horizon tempting you to explore their magnificence and beauty, and the beast that is Snowdonia is just a short drive away. Estuary Retreat

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

Welsh Wisteria

There were plenty of reasons why this penthouse apartment made it into our collection, but let's start with the most obvious. When guests step out onto the ornate white balcony, they're greeted with stunning views over the Dyfi Estuary and Cardigan Bay, stretching all the way down the Ceredigion Coastline. As is often the case with coastal locations, there's just so much sky and this uninterrupted panorama brings the added benefit of meaning the interior is flooded with natural light through the windows and skylights. This is emphasised pleasingly by the stark white walls and it makes for a wonderfully bright space to sprawl out on the tan leather sofa. As you can probably tell from looking out the window, Aberdyfi Beach sits just across the street and there are cafes and pubs along the seafront for when you fancy a refreshment. Slightly further afield, there are opportunities for birdwatching in RSPB Ynys-hir and Dyfi Osprey Project, both taking around half an hour to reach in the car.
