The views from this coastal cottage are nothing short of cinematic. Looking out over the Llyn Peninsula you’ll see winding coastal paths, sandy beaches and the silhouette of a castle in the distance. This home makes the most of the breathtaking views with a spacious conservatory (the most popular room in the house) and plenty of outdoor seating. There’s a wood-burning stove in the living room’s old stone fireplace and cosy bedrooms are characterised by bright wallpaper and contemporary furnishings. The kitchen is plenty large enough to fit you all at breakfast time and there's a formal dining room for evening meals. The Wales Coast Path can be accessed from the gate in your garden, and from there it's an easy walk to Criccieth Beach or Black Rock Sands. And, if for any reason you tire of the seaside, you're less than an hour’s drive from Snowdonia.

You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. There's a lovely view of this hilly terrain from the home's private garden, which comes with a gas barbecue and plenty of seating for when the weather plays ball. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Both Criccieth and Aberdesach beaches can be reached in under a quarter of an hour in the car, while you can also visit the old slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog, only a half-hour drive away.

Slate Stream

When we say this is a historic home, we really mean it. A Roman bathhouse is said to have once stood here, and the current house could be the oldest in the county of Gwynedd – it dates back to around 1543. There are period features everywhere, from the inglenook fireplace to the traditional wooden beams and even an arrow-slit-style window. The garden is just as magical and makes a lovely spot for mealtimes or a relaxing glass of wine while admiring the bluebells. A pond, plenty of trees and a small stream, make it a haven for local wildlife too.

Snowdonia is a twenty minute drive away, where adventurous types can climb hills and ride through jaw-dropping natural mountain biking trails and valleys to their heart’s content. Dwyfor Rabbit Farm delivers fun family activities where you can feed the bunnies. Take a walk along the golden sand, spruced with pebbles and a rocky area that lines Criccieth beaches, exposing rock pools at low tide. Come home for a soak in the Victorian tub, a warm drink by the fire, and then climb into the antique French bed to dream about the days to come.

When the sun makes an appearance, spill out into the garden with a jug of Pimm’s and admire your unspoilt surroundings from the picnic bench. If you’d like to expend some energy, lace up your hiking shoes and follow one of many bridleways that unfold from your doorstep. Should a beach day be on the cards, Black Rock Sands Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away. 

After a day of sea swims and windswept coastal walks, nip into the town of Porthmadog for fish and chips by the harbour and a well-deserved pint in a traditional pub.

Here on the coastline of North Wales, you’ll have a great view of the stars, and plenty of activities come the daytime. Drive for 10-minutes and hit Criccieth Beach - an award-winning beach with a mix of sand and shingle. Build sandcastles, or visit the real 13th-century castle, Castell Cricieth. Walk, hike or cycle through Snowdonia National Park, a 45-minute drive away, or spend days closer to the dream-house in the town of Porthmadog. This cottage and its backdrop are straight from a storybook, and like all good books, you won't want your stay to end.

Distant Colours

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

We love the outside space, where you can drink in gorgeous views from every direction – and where you can enjoy some stargazing at night. The farmhouse itself is comfortable and cosy, with a wheelchair-accessible bedroom on the ground floor. The three bedrooms on the first floor all share one bathroom, so there may be a bit of a wait for the shower.

The seaside town of Pwllheli in North Wales is a wondrous secret, its sandy beaches almost deserted, and it’s yours to discover from this sunny bungalow. Further along the Llyn Peninsula lies Abersoch (a fifteen-minute drive away) – a cool beach town that oozes charm. You're equally well served if you're a hiker keen to take on Snowdon, with the rocky terrains and hikes of the national park within an hour of your front door. The countryside views at this bungalow reach every corner, with floor-to-ceiling patio doors letting the outside into the huge kitchen, and flooding the place with natural light at the same time. The seaside prints on the wall are by local artists and are for sale if any take your fancy. Dine at the picnic bench on the wrap-around terrace, which boasts sea views, keeping the coastal vibe alive. Throw some logs on the wood-burner when the sun dips under the horizon and keep cosy warm in the living room. 

Banana Breeze

Set in a lovely position in the heart of the Llyn Peninsula, this Victorian stone cottage was once the gatehouse to the Grade II-listed manor house, Plas Boduan. Make your way through the grand estate gates and down the drive where you're sure to feel the history all around you. The cottage itself is a delightful blend of old and new, with a large, light extension complete with glass doors, a piano and a log burner sitting alongside original features like pretty leaded windows. Outdoors, there’s a charmingly wild garden, a sun-trap patio for morning coffees, and a hot tub for soaking your bones after long hikes in the Welsh countryside. Walkers are spoilt for choice with paths and lanes crisscrossing the surrounding countryside, and if you don’t mind hopping in the car, you’re a half-hour drive from some of the best walking terrain in the world in the form of Snowdonia National Park. Alternatively, head over to the long sandy beach at Morfa Nefyn, only seven minutes away in the car.

Perfectly situated for exploring the stunning Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia National Park – this lovely cottage has a great location. If you like gardening, there’s a garden centre, with a café within walking distance, while the Wales Coast Path and Abererch Beach are 2.4 miles away. You don’t have to go anywhere for stunning views – a bench at the front of the cottage lovers over Cardigan Bay or take a seat in the private patio area, have a slice of complimentary cake and admire the vistas over to Snowdonia. This stone-built cottage is semi-detached and some of the lawned areas are shared, so you may not have the place totally to yourself though.

Once the former shooting residence of the Earl of Marlborough, this charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Snowdonia carefully stitches together history and contemporary design. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where your clan will spend time eating, drinking and playing card games if it tips it down outside. Light the wood-burning stove to keep the chill at bay or warm up with a brisk walk to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog – you’ll get there in under an hour if you go at a decent pace. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

On a sunny day at this home on the Llŷn Peninsula, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on a little island somewhere much closer to the equator. The garden blooms with tropical plant life – palm trees are dotted everywhere and the air is scented with fig leaf. Down below are the glimmering waters of the sea, and there’s no better place to admire the view than from the outdoor hot tub. 

Step inside and you will see that the house is a homage to Great British design. Make use of the high-spec appliances in the modern farmhouse-style kitchen for whipping home-cooked delights. These can be enjoyed in the dining room, or the spectacular conservatory – the showpiece of the house. With its glass exterior that frames the sea, it’s a breathtaking spot for sunny breakfasts and long, lazy lunches. 

The house is a quick walk to Machroes Beach, a long sandy expanse perfect for splashing around in the shallows or practising a wide range of watersports like sailing and windsurfing. Follow the coastal path which runs close to the house, for rambling walks through stunning scenery. Machroes Beach backs onto Abersoch golf course, where you can have a swing and a putt on their 18-hole course overlooking the ocean.

In the idyllic mining own of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this home was once an old chapel dating back to 1861. The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. There’s a pool table here too, which is boung to keep both the kids and grown-ups entertained for a few hours. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

Offering stunning mountain and sea views, this semi-detached cottage is conveniently located just 3 miles from the seaside town of Pwllheli and its beaches, marina, and cafes. With a sociable open-plan living and dining set-up, the space opens onto the garden's private patio terrace overlooking Snowdonia. Meanwhile, an extended lawn area is shared with the holiday cottage next door. It's an excellent base for exploring the golden beaches and picturesque villages of Llyn Peninsula, as well as Snowdonia National Park.

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

With views all across the fields and valleys towards Snowdonia and the North Wales coast, this smart cottage is a former milking shed reimagined. Modern and luxurious, it combines a peaceful, countryside setting with up-to-the-minute styling and plenty of modern comforts. 

Owned by the same farming family for five generations, the open-plan living space now features herringbone flooring, a contemporary log burner for cosy evenings no matter the season and a handbuilt kitchen with everything you'll need. Two bedrooms and two fabulous bathrooms make it as perfect for friends sharing as it is for small families, and we particularly love the huge rain shower in the en-suite.

Step outside and you'll have your own fully-enclosed garden with a picnic table for summer barbecues, and it's just a short drive to the nearest beaches. And look out for the extra special welcome hamper at this home because the owners run a successful bakery from the farm.

We may have found the most adorable home for two. This former milking parlour is one of a small group of cottages in the heart of the Anglesey countryside. Rural, secluded and perfectly in tune with nature, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down. Wander down secret paths in the extensive grounds then take a seat on the deck to watch the dragonflies hovering above the water. The fishing lake is well stocked and there can surely be few more idyllic places for casting a line. Inside the single-storey stone cottage, you’ll find pine furniture, pretty coordinating fabrics and a log burner to warm your toes by. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. Stock up for supper in the bustling market town of Llangefni, before hunkering down for the night together.

This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). Two dogs are welcome to join you here, plus there’s a sweet welcome pack with Prosecco provided for your arrival. Outside, you’ll find everything you could need on the doorstep. From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.
