Drift away in the warm bubbles while contemplating the scenery of the rolling countryside. It’s a scenic 40-minute walk into the village of Wiseman’s Bridge, or fetch your towel, bathing suit and other paraphernalia to make the ten-minute drive down to the glorious Pembrokeshire coastline and its award-winning beaches.

Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

There's plenty of room here to make yourself at home – including a separate den fit for the kids, complete with an Xbox for rare rainy days. Out on the deck, you can bask in the scenery while firing up the barbecue, watching the four-legged family members let off steam in the enclosed garden. Better yet, take the dogs for a walk along the sea – Saundersfoot Beach is just a ten-minute stroll away. Brimming with seaside charm and awash with cute cafes, traditional pubs and delicious restaurants, Saundersfoot is a gem in Pembrokeshire's crown. Grab an ice cream cone and sprawl out on the sand or try your hand at crabbing along the harbour walls. Tenby's sprawling beaches are also ten minutes away by car – safe to say, this is an excellent spot for an escape to the coast.

Bookended on one side by Saundersfoot and the other by Narberth, this home in Ludchurch is in an excellent spot for exploring Pembrokeshire's coast. A ten-minute drive away is Telpyn Beach, but just a little further is Tenby, home to pretty pastel houses, narrow lanes lined with boutiques and pubs, and not to mention the five award-winning beaches. As far as locales go, it's pretty ideal – close to the seaside, yet tucked away in the countryside for extra tranquillity. And the views from this home aren't bad, either. Stretching out over the countryside and towards the sea, the best place to take it all in is the private hot tub. Pour yourself a glass of wine and sink into the bubbling waters, watching as the sun slowly sets and the stars come out. Inside is cosy and warm, with a comfortable living area and a sleek kitchen that makes cooking up a storm easy. Everything is on the ground floor, so it's very accessible – the en-suite in the main bedroom even has a roll-in shower, support aids and emergency pull cords. We think a family would be pleased to call this place home during a stay on the Welsh coast.

If you're culinarily gifted, you're sure to love the huge and well-equipped kitchen, as well as the equally generously sized dining room in which everybody can enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Of course, you need to work up an appetite first and there are plenty of ways to do just that in the local area. Saundersfoot Beach takes less than ten minutes to reach on foot, while the myriad attractions in the seaside town of Tenby lie the same amount of time away by car.

South-facing sea views grab all the headlines here, with large windows in the open layout living area/kitchen, plus direct access to a private balcony ensuring you can make the most of the unparalleled location. 

The interior decor is no less eye-catching, with mid-century style leather seating, a wood burner set into the wall, plus a subtle maritime theme, with hints of blue and wood cladding that reminded us of the side of a beach hut.

Sharing the open-plan space is the kitchen, with the sink set up so you can look out at the waves as you wash up the bits and pieces that won't fit in the dishwasher. Rather sensibly, the hob and oven face the opposite way, to minimise distractions. With dinner ready, it's down to you to plate up and grab a seat at the rustic yet elegant dining table.

Elsewhere, the two bedrooms keep up with the nods to the nautical setting, with striped wallpaper and sea-themed artwork adorning the walls.

In addition to the expansive beach, the old tramway route that connected the coal port to mines at Stepsaside survives as a spectacular section of the picturesque Pembrokeshire Coast Path. It's 186 miles long in total, but we'd recommend dipping in and out to walk along particularly panoramic parts.

Those who prefer their outdoor activities more action-packed will find some of Pembrokeshire's finest surf spots within a twenty-mile drive. A particular standout is Freshwater West, which is hailed by many as the most reliable break in the land of dragons and daffodils.

Positioned just a two-minute walk from Saundersfoot beachfront, this inviting cottage has nailed what you need from a seaside holiday home: arresting views of the bay from the master and top floor bedrooms, board games for when the weather’s not on your side, reworked original features and a wholesome, cosy ambience. A well-kept garden with two seating areas calls for cups of tea with a side of Welsh cakes in the sunshine and a glass of wine in the dusky evenings. When it’s warm out, nothing beats rolling your trousers up and taking a bracing Paddle in Saundersfoot Bay. Plot a course across the sands to find a spot to picnic or take the short walk into town for its smattering of restaurants, chip shops and cafes. If you’re feeling up to it, ramble for just over an hour along the Pembrokeshire coastal path to the charming town of Tenby – or jump in the car, it’ll only take you ten minutes.

We can't imagine a better place to switch off than here. No wif-fi, no disturbances – just you, your loved one, and the woods. For a couple looking to spend a romantic weekend away, this couldn't be more perfect.

Nestled between the trees on private woodlands, this cabin lets you shed away the thoughts of the daily grind, while still providing home comforts. The well-equipped kitchen is surprisingly large, so dinners at home are a breeze, and the plush sofa is the perfect place for getting cosy after a day of exploring. 

But really, the best seat in the house is just outside, overlooking the calm lake. You'll love rustling up barbecue dinners, tucking in around the picnic table, while looking out at the wide-spanning fields and the lake. It couldn't be more peaceful. Until you get the wood-burning hot tub bubbling, then we're really talking. Sip on wine in the warming hot tub as the sun starts to go down and the stars start to dot the night sky. 

Blissfully alone in the peace and quiet of the woods, you wouldn't think you're just a fifteen-minute drive from Tenby. Explore the quaint seaside town, full of traditional charm, coastal paths, narrow streets lined with pastel-coloured houses, knick-knack shops, and teeming with historical sites. The surrounding beaches are absolutely beautiful – ideal for taking in the view while tucking into fish and chips. 

The Great Alone

Overlooking the quaint harbour, this waterfront apartment puts you at the heart of some of Tenby's favourite spots. Stroll to the sleepy seaside town's restaurants and boutique shops, or walk to Tenby North Beach in under ten minutes. The interiors are a little dated, but the home is well-kept, cosy and equipped with most of what you'll need for a comfortable stay – though you'll have to bring your own towels. With views and a central location, this home does well for itself, and the compact balcony is a nice bonus, especially for a nightcap.

Harbour Moon

When Mary Ann Evans paid a visit to this home in 1857, she was inspired to write a novel. A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

No pressure to anybody coming to this four-storey, Grade-II listed townhouse in the present day, then. Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.

Further comforts include a pair of en-suite bedrooms – we’re particularly smitten with the freestanding tub – and a garden complete with outdoor seating, ideal for dining alfresco on warm summer evenings.

Set above the sea, a three-minute walk to North Beach, this stylish home is perfectly positioned for exploring the heart of Tenby and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Inside, there’s an open-plan living space with a moody blue and grey colour scheme, creating a sophisticated yet cosy feel. We particularly loved the subtle nautical nods and funky artwork. On chilly days, warm your toes by the fire or sip a mug of hot tea by the enormous bay windows, watching as the waves break on the shore. Cook up your favourite dinners in the flash kitchenette – but not before you’ve sampled fish and chips from D.Fecci and Sons on lower Frog Street, some of the best in town. When the sun shines, make a beeline for the placid waters of Castle Beach and explore Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, the oldest of its kind in Wales. If you’d prefer to expend a little more energy, it’s an hour’s amble to Saundersfoot.

Right on the shorefront in the charming seaside town of Tenby, you can watch the waves roll in and out as you take breakfast at the sunny dining table. As you look around this home, it becomes clear very quickly that it has been designed to make the most of the beautiful coastal scenery in which this part of south Wales really specialises. In the living room, huge bi-fold doors open up to Juliet balconies that gaze out over Tenby's South Beach, while in the bedrooms there are further balconies, only this time with a view of Caldy Island. With such glorious panoramas, you could be forgiven for not really paying the interior much attention, but when you do get around to it, you'll find a modern space that's simple but effective — we're fans of the minimalist white kitchen, in particular. As you can probably imagine when looking out the window, the beach isn't too far away — just five minutes' walk, in fact. Tenby Castle can be reached in under a quarter of an hour on foot, too.

The baby-blue kitchen is both super-sleek and big enough for cooking up hearty meals, while there's also a private courtyard outside just in case the weather's nice enough to dine alfresco.

If that's the case, there's plenty to see and do in this south Welsh idyll. Tenby Castle is only ten minutes' walk up the coast, as is the town's Museum and Art Gallery. This area by the North Beach is also where you can catch a ferry to Caldey Island, on which you can visit the monastery and spot some of the diverse wildlife.

Located in a holiday park in Amroth, you’ll find the beach a forty-five-minute walk away or a short drive from home, as well as plenty of shops and restaurants to explore. Inside the cottage, the decor is functional, but a working fireplace and beamed ceilings are nice touches. Best of all, the patio outside is equipped with an alfresco dining set, making open-air meals a must when the weather is balmy.
