Set on the banks of the Nevern estuary, this spacious family home – with large private gardens and a seating terrace – offers the perfect Welsh break. Wake up to amazing views across the estuary. Just outside the home’s gate, you will find access straight to the estuary which leads to Newport Bay and Parrog – reachable in just twenty-three minutes on foot, which makes it ideal for a leisurely walk together. Then return home in the late afternoon for Welsh cake warmed in the Aga. 

In the evenings, cosy up on the big squashy sofa in front of the wood burner with your dog curled up at your feet as you watch your family's favourite film. You'll find everything you need for a relaxing coastal retreat in this charming house, be it board games and books or ping-pong and Prime. Newport is a pretty market town on the north coast of Pembrokeshire, situated at the foot of Carnigli Mountain and the Preseli Hills. There's an array of eateries, including small cafes and old-fashioned pubs, within walking distance, as well as independent shops and galleries. Newport Beach isn't far – about a half-hour stroll along the coastal path – while historic sites like Pentre Ifan, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and Nevern Castle are less than ten minutes by car.

Perched on the banks of the Teifi estuary, this renovated former sea captain's villa in southwest Wales treats guests to some spectacular waterside views. Your eco-minded hosts built this cedar shepherd's hut with their guests' needs in mind – namely, escaping the everyday hustle and bustle and offering a chance to reconnect with nature, themselves and their partner. 

Your hosts have found space for a comfy king-size mattress despite the compact footprint. Given the lack of light pollution out here, stargazing through the skylight from the comfort of your bed is truly breathtaking. Elsewhere, the kitchenette is perfect for cooking up light bites to eat at the dining table or in the outdoor dining area.

Set within its own private garden, the outdoor space has been planted with seasonal herbs, flowers and salad, which you're more than welcome to help yourself to. In addition, a fire pit makes for atmospheric evenings in nature.

It was love at first sight when we clapped our eyes on this eco shepherd's hut, squirreled away in the sleepy village of Moylegrove along the North Pembrokeshire coastline.

With the mighty Pembrokeshire Coast National Park just a stone's throw away, this is a home to embrace the great outdoors and escape the outside world. Discover vast beaches and secluded, sandy coves just a fifteen-minute walk away. Embrace the sea with kayaking and dolphin-spotting boat trips. Or, for something a little more genteel, there are independent shops, galleries and fabulous restaurants just a short drive away in the nearby villages.

Back at home, we love the contemporary design aesthetic of this shepherd's hut, with copper and matt black accents letting the birch-clad interiors sing. A king-sized bed decked out in Egyptian cotton sheets and a rainfall shower room next door dial up the luxury. And the welcome hamper crammed with organic goodies (think fresh eggs straight from the host's hens and homemade bread) has everything you need to rustle up breakfast in the smart kitchenette. Or, let your host, Megan cook up a feast for you over at the main house.

Home chefs can let loose in the kitchen, rustling up freshly-baked cakes and mouthwatering Sunday roasts to share around the eight-seater table. Speaking of, we can't help but swoon over the verdant, lush landscape that awaits you outside. The village of Tresaith on the Ceredigion coastline is relatively humble, but you can find some truly spectacular homes here – this three-storey gem is among them.

It's definitely an address that has been constructed with the surrounding scenery in mind, with sea views to be admired from the balconies and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Even to the rear of the house that isn't so blessed with coastal vistas, there's a peaceful terrace surrounded by flower beds and it's more than possible to enjoy alfresco feasts in this space, thanks to the dining table, pizza oven and barbecue.

Should the weather ever be a little uninspiring, there's plenty to keep guests entertained inside. In the games room alone, you'll find tables for pool and table tennis, as well as a darts board and piano. Once you've exhausted these, the cinema room complete with leather seats and surround sound is the ideal place to watch a movie or some live sports. It's just as easy to escape to the Jacuzzi bathtub and treat yourself to an unrushed soak.

You'll eventually want to head to the seaside at some point and Tresaith Beach is less than ten minutes' away on foot. It's easy to arrange watersport activities here and – if you're lucky – spot dolphins. There's also a waterfall at the far end of the sand, as well.

We dare you to find a home with a more spectacular view of Carmarthenshire's coastline than this. Perched on a hill overlooking Pendine's seven miles of golden sands below, the panoramic sea views reach far and wide, from the Carmarthen Bay to the Gower peninsula.

If you can bear to part your gaze, if just for a while,  the silky sands and charming promenade of Pendine are just a nine-minute drive away. A traditional, understated seaside resort – it's all chalets, fish'n'chips, and windbreaks – just as it should be. But be sure to make it home for dusk - the sunset views from the hot tub are out-of-this-world.

Once Upon a Tide

Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

This home ticks all the boxes for a couple after a romantic retreat to the coast. You'll find all the mod-cons needed here – from a beautifully designed open-plan living space and a cosy wood-burning stove to the spacious bedroom and luxurious roll-top bath in the en-suite. You'll even find an arrow slit in the lounge and another in the ground floor wet room wall.

Cleverly converted and architect designed, this home uses green energy and is insulated with sheep's wool. It's a surprisingly modern and comfortable home for a small family or a couple of friends here to make the most of its idyllic rural setting. By day, explore the farm thanks to a trail that starts at your door, visiting cattle and spotting wildlife as you go. If you're a keen cyclist, you're within striking distance of the Afan Forest and Bike Park Wales, with safe storage for your equipment.
