Sun, sea and sand are in store at this stone-built villa in Almyrida – a charming beach resort town on Crete’s northern coast. Within walking distance, you’ve got supermarkets, family-run tavernas that hark back to this town’s days as a fishing village and a horseshoe sweep of sandy beach that looks like it belongs as an office screen-saver. Should you fancy a day trip somewhere with a little more buzz and bustle, the beautiful Venetian streets of Chania are twenty-two kilometres away.

The villa may be newly built, but the honey-hued stone facade blends right in with the surrounding terraced olive groves and rugged hills. Spend sunny days lounging by the poolside and dipping in and out of the inviting blue water in the heat of the day. Long, lazy lunches of freshly grilled fish can be hosted on the shaded terrace where a brick-built barbecue should keep the chef of the group busy. 

Stepping inside through glass sliding doors the open living room is simply furnished, letting the sunlight speak for itself. A sleek and modern kitchen opens up to the rest of the space, and there’s plenty of room in here to whip up family-sized feasts. When it comes to getting some shut-eye, bedrooms are havens of quiet and four out of five come with direct access to the terrace or first-floor balconies furnished with hanging chairs and bistro sets. 

Daughter of Deucalion

Situated just outside the village of Kokkino Chorio, this villa offers gorgeous sea vistas, as well as a tranquil setting, ideal for family stays. The outdoors boasts a private swimming pool, an alfresco dining area, and a barbecue – all you have to do is kick back and enjoy the view. Surrounded by a large private plot, you’ll be undisturbed here. The host also offers a free tablet, in addition to satellite TV, meaning the whole family can stay entertained. We recommend hiring a car to reach the nearby beach and explore the island beyond. 

The Chorus of Aegeus

Relaxing breaks by the coast are a balm for the soul. This villa is the perfect setting for a holiday that’s all about spending quality time together and soaking up the sunshine in a lovely setting. 

The villa combines traditional architecture like wooden beams and arched doorways with modern amenities and comfort. Everything you need is right at your fingertips, so you can focus on unwinding. 

You might begin your day on the terrace, sipping coffee and drinking in the view of the sea and the mountains. There’s plenty of outside space, so you won’t feel crowded and you can easily find a spot in the shade for reading. When the weather is hot, the pool is oh-so-inviting, whether you’re a lap-swimmer or prefer to float on a lilo lazily. The garden is surrounded by high stone walls, making it a private little oasis. 

There are dining spaces in the courtyard – where there’s a built-in barbecue – and on the tiled terrace. Alfresco dinner, anyone? If you fancy eating out, you might meander one minute to one of the tavernas that line the main square in Plaka. 

Almirida beach is a thirteen-minute stroll from the villa, with clear blue sea to splash in. The convenient location is the cherry on top of this marvellous holiday home.  


Hey There Sunshine

Capitalising on the beauty of the natural Crete landscape, this modern villa is built with views of the Aegean Sea and surrounding mountains. Though that'll draw you outside, you'll stay for the infinity pool and alfresco dining table. There are also bean bags and sun loungers to ensure you're making the most of the sunshine. Inside, modern features ensure that all of the family are comfortable. As for your location, you're near Plaka, where you can dine and shop. What about the beach, you ask? The closest one is only 700 meters away.

The Sea Bride

Modern and chic, this home in the north-west of Crete offers a fabulous escape for groups of up to six. Recently built on the hillside below the village of Megala Chorafia, it's the perfect place to press pause and indulge in some serious relaxation. 

The large windows in the living room mean that you can savour the scenery while you sip your morning tea – and you’ll be eager to spend the rest of the day outside in the fresh air. With a terrace overlooking Souda Bay, you have a front-row view of the water – when the sun comes out, keep cool with regular dips in the infinity pool. Dry off while you read a book and gaze out to sea, and we’re willing to bet that nothing is more peaceful than an afternoon nap on a sun lounger. Meals under the pergola and sunset cocktails are just the icing on the cake.

Kalami Beach, with its sandy shoreline, is a pretty spot less than ten minutes away by car where you can paddle and catch some rays. Megala Chorafia is just a ten-minute walk away, where you can stock up on supplies at the mini-market or dine at one of the three tavernas. And, if you fancy a day trip, you can drive to the ancient port city of Chania in just twenty minutes to explore the Venetian Harbour and winding streets. 
 


Seaside Jewel

A 35-kilometre drive along the coast from Chania, this villa sits in a quiet part of the island. The traditional village of Gavalohori is a fifteen-minute stroll away, and Almerida is ten minutes by car if you fancy a beach day. For lazy days at home, there's a pool with massage jets ideal for relaxing. Shaded lounges and an alfresco dining area make outdoor living a breeze, while big glass doors open the lounge and kitchen to the poolside terrace. There’s even an office room for those working remotely – no wonder this home ticks all our boxes.

Jasmine Retreat

Set on a remote Cretan hillside, away from the high rise hotels and built up beaches, this villa is a sanctuary for relaxation and joy. You will be floored by the breathtaking views of the coast, which you can enjoy while taking a dip in the expansive infinity pool. There are plenty of deck chairs and outdoor spots where you can relax and soak up your surroundings, and come evening there’s nothing better than a sunset barbecue for dinner beneath the pergola (perhaps followed by a little ouzo). 

Your host is on hand 24/7 to assist with anything you might need: there is the option to have a private chef, as well as boat and yacht tours, massages and transportation, so you need not lift a finger during your stay.

The villa is down the road from Kokkino Chorio, a traditional Cretan village with a smattering of beautiful churches, a handy supermarket, and local tavernas serving traditional Greek fare. You are less than a kilometre from stunning coastline, where there are many pristine beaches and cave systems to explore by boat, including the famous Elephant Cave, a diving spot for the intrepid amongst the group. This is the kind of villa you will want to return to for years. 

Ariadne's Nectar

With views of the Cretan sea and mountains from a secluded, sun-scorched plot, this paradisal villa offers lasting memories for a group of friends or family visiting the island. With only the neighbouring goats for company and the soft clanging of their bells as your soundtrack, you'll experience unparalleled peace in this scenic corner of Greece.

The villa retains a calming ambience throughout, with a soft colour scheme of grey, white and splashes of aqua. Slide open the glass doors in the bright living space to let the ocean air waft in as you lounge on the L-shaped sofa. In the evenings, gather around the eight-person dining table to enjoy a traditional Greek meze – your host can arrange for a private chef to take the cooking off your hands.

We suggest hiring a car so you can properly explore the island, from its colourful capital, Chania – just half an hour away – to the plethora of awe-inspiring beaches scattered along its coastline. Your closest, Marathi Beach, is only 900 metres away, so you know where to go for crystalline waters and warm white sands.

White Mountain Manor

Fancy a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean sea each morning? Follow the short 10-metre private path, and from here, you'll have direct access to its crystal waters. Those who prefer to spend their days in a more luxurious setting stay by the sparkling swimming pool equipped with its own sunken bar and lounge area to enjoy instead.

Lounge out on the day beds to soak up the sunshine, or head up to the viewing platform for not only the best panoramic views in the house looking over the glimmering bay but – a scenic spot to work on your fitness routine (as there's gym equipment installed for prime viewing time). 

For the competitive type, why not play a game of petanque in the garden before firing up the wood-burning pizza oven for an evening spent in good company? 

As you transition into the house, natural stone floors flowing from indoor and outdoor living spaces create a social setting, whether you prefer to be out in the sun or amidst the cool and shaded interior. Get comfortable on the cosy couches and admire the art installations that inject style and sophistication into the contemporary setting.

With the quaint village of Plaka just a two-minute drive away and the nearest sandy beach reachable in five minutes – this place boasts both comfort practicality. Oh, and we can't reiterate enough those magical, swoon-worthy views. 


Lifted Spirits

In the historic village of Aspro, this charming villa offers beautiful mountain views and plenty of peace and quiet. Just 1650 metres from the beaches of Almyrida, you needn’t venture far to find clear shallow waters and golden sand. Chania town is a little further away but well worth a visit, so we’d recommend renting a car to get the most out of your stay. The villa itself is a little rustic with plenty of luxurious touches like a private pool and barbecue area, while inside you’ll find traditional stone units. These bedrooms are separated by a curtain, so have less privacy than the bedroom, but offer a cosy and authentic place to lay your head each night. 

Aspro Authenticity 

With views of the sea and the mountains, this villa has the best of both worlds. We love the rooftop garden with its Jacuzzi and magnificent vistas. You can relax on the pool's daybed as the kids play ping pong and jump on the trampoline. And when it's time for lunch, why not let your host arrange a private chef to cook some tasty food on the barbecue or wood stove? There's plenty to keep everyone occupied here for sure, but there's also so much to discover in the area. Situated in Xirosterni, a charming village with stone-built houses, you'll be a five-minute drive from the golden sands and crystal waters of Almyrida Beach.
