Out in the peace of Crete’s countryside, this grand-looking villa offers a deluxe base from which to explore the ancient archaeological sites and beautiful beaches along the coast near Heraklion. The mountain villa of Rodia is within walking distance and Heraklion itself a twenty-five-minute drive away. Beautifully landscaped gardens and terraces are home to a private swimming pool and a full outdoor kitchen with a wood-fired pizza oven. Each level of the home has a balcony with a glorious sea view and plenty of windows in the open living area on the first floor show off that endless blue. The gourmet kitchen is a chef’s dream.

We can’t imagine there’s much on your holiday wishlist that this contemporary villa doesn’t tick off. Fancy glistening sea views and access to a private beach? This home has you covered. How about a private gym and water sports equipment to get out on the deep blue sea? You’ll find that here, too. Sun seekers can also enjoy the generous terraces and private pool, hanging over the sea below. The basement bedroom even boasts a private kitchen, affording two guests extra privacy – which makes up for the lack of natural light, we think, and all adds to an unforgettable stay. 

Serenity & Sunlight

This is a great choice for a restful stay on Crete. You’ll find this villa in the hilltop area of Rodia, a former Venetian settlement known for its excellent tavernas – you don’t have to walk far for a good meal here. This home looks out over the Gulf of Crete so the views are top-notch, and the outside space is peaceful and pretty. We love the different seating areas around the pool – you can easily slip away for a quiet moment here. There are only three bathrooms, so you might have to wait a little while for your shower each morning – at least you’ll have those views to take your mind off it though. 

Ionian Ouzo

Gather all your favourite people for a stay at this palatial estate housing two identical villas within nearly two acres of private Cretan landscapes. Both villas offer gold-standard amenities, with a lengthy outdoor swimming pool to soak up the panoramic views of the sea and the Psiloritis mountains and a professional tennis court at the heart of the grounds. And don’t get us started on the crisp, minimalist interiors and unique collection of paintings by award-winning artist Kostas Tsolis. Location-wise, you’re just fifteen minutes from the airport and Heraklion city, and Ammoudara Beach is even closer. 

The Garden of the Gods

Beautiful inside and out, this villa stands in a cliffside location on a peaceful bay. It looks out over the Aegean Sea and has a stunning private infinity pool – with a whirlpool section – from which you can admire the sea views. We love the covered dining area, which has a built-in barbecue. There’s also an outdoor shower, and a steam room inside. You’ll need a car to get around but will be rewarded with easy access to Agia Pelagia and Heraklion. 

Hera's Stare

Within walking distance of two Cretan beaches, this home promises to be the perfect seaside retreat for small groups. The natural interior design offers a stylish space for the in-villa services available, including private chefs and massages. But we love the pool terrace for daytime lazing and sunset-watching over the sea. With welcome treats, plus bathrobes and slippers, you'll settle right in. Though when it's time for an adventure, the attractions of Heraklion are only half an hour away by car.

Apollo's Light

Boasting elevated views over the Cretan Sea, this villa sits just 500 metres from the charming village of Rogdia. While there are lots of steps to enter this home, we think the pool area and coast-facing seating spots are worth the climb. Indoors, you'll find an elegant interior and plenty of books to read, but only the bedrooms promise air conditioning. Still, the practical desk and corner bathtub offer lovely bonuses. And for sightseeing, the city of Heraklion is 15 kilometres away.

The Crystal Melody

Sweeping coastal views take all the glory at this dazzling Cretan villa, stood high and mighty on the winding road leading to the dreamy mountain village of Rodia. 

Spread out across three levels and with so many terraces and balconies we’ve lost count, this home is made for soaking up vistas of the Aegean Sea and Cretan sun. While the day away hopping between the pool, Jacuzzi, and luxurious daybeds, all fringed by tropical fauna and flora.
 
When it’s time to cool off, there’s heaps of space to spill out indoors. And while the interiors veer more towards traditional than Cretan rustic-chic, we love how pristine and sparkling everywhere feels with natural light flooding in through the ginormous balcony windows flanking nearly every room. 

When thoughts turn to food, you’ll find an authentic taverna for delicious Cretan fare just next door. Or mosey into Rodia village (fifteen-minute stroll or four-minute drive) for a taste of mountain village life. With an ancient nunnery as a backdrop, it’s a lovely place to spend an evening and meet the locals in its bustling eateries - they may even strike up a free-form jam on the local instruments. 

And when the beach finally calls, hop in the car and head to the sandy shores and glistening waters of Ammoudara Beach – you’ll be there in ten minutes flat. 


Mountain and the Sea

This luxurious villa offers comfort and style. It’s just a short drive from Heraklion and boasts stunning sea views from its elevated position. You’ll likely spend most of your time outside, swimming in the pool, enjoying the flower-filled lush gardens and dining under a bamboo pergola – there are barbecues to cook on, as well as a traditional stone oven. There’s also a Jacuzzi, the ideal spot for a sunset cocktail. Inside, there’s plenty of room to spread out, with two kitchens and two lounges, though two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed. This home is ideal for large groups. 

Luxurious Haven

Perched on a hillside above the north Cretan coastline, this villa benefits from both an unobstructed view of the Aegean Sea and an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquillity.

A lot of this is down to the sixteen-acre site on which the home sits. Not only does this space have more than three hundred olive trees and fifty almond trees, but there's also a swimming pool bordered by loungers on which to bask in the Mediterranean sunshine. Add to that a covered dining area and an impressively sized stone barbecue, and you've got an address that makes it easier than ever to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

That being said, the contemporary interior is just as pleasant, too. The large windows invite plenty of natural light into the space and this bountiful asset is accentuated in the open-concept ground level by the stark white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces. Throughout the rest of the house, the design is relatively simple but it's all been executed especially well.

As you can probably ascertain from the coastal panorama, the local area is well served by seaside spots, with Panagia Beach forty minutes away on foot. The centre of Heraklion is also only a twenty-five-minute car journey and rewards those who head over with ample restaurants, shops and historic attractions.

Sun Worshipping

This modern villa’s views over the Aegean Sea are breathtaking, no matter what time of day. Whether you’re admiring the blue vistas from the private pool in the afternoon or over an alfresco barbecue at sunset, you’ll find it hard to tear your eyes away from the stunning scenery. The on-site playground and three en-suite bedrooms over its two floors make it perfect for families, offering groups plenty of room, entertainment and fun at home. But should you wish to go out and explore, you need only make a beeline for nearby Agia Pelagia with its beach, bay and plethora of shops and restaurants. 


The Watercolour Sea

You’ll find this contemporary villa a mere 600 metres away from Ammoudara beach – so, sinking your feet into the golden sands is a breeze. Made for outdoor living, spend your days enjoying alfresco meals, topping up your tan on the sun-drenched terrace, or swimming lazy laps in the pool. Fancy exploring further afield? There's a selection of shops and restaurants within walking distance, or hop in the car or on the local bus (the stop's a mere three-minute walk away) and take a day trip to Heraklion.
