There isn’t a swimming pool here, but with the sea on your doorstep we don’t think you’ll miss it, and you’ll have your own private Jacuzzi on the terrace overlooking the water. Your host can help arrange a variety of treats, including a private chef and beauty treatments, and when you’re ready to explore, the seaside resort of Agios Nikolaos is just a few kilometres away.

We love the sea views from this contemporary house, and with terraces, balconies and picture windows, there are plenty of spots to enjoy them from. Built as two detached villas, connected by internal stairs, this is a great option for anyone travelling as part of a group – you’ll share the outdoor pool area but have your own private space indoors. To make your holiday feel extra special, your host can help arrange a private chef to cook for you. This apartment is situated just 400 metres from the centre of Agios Nikolaos on the beautiful Bay of Mirabello. Explore the small harbour or the circular Voulismeni Lake with its cafes and restaurants. Alternatively, spend the day on one of the nearby beaches of Ammos and Almiros. Back at this modern apartment, whilst there is a patio area, it’s part of a larger shared terrace with your neighbours, so this place won’t suit you if you’re looking for more outside space.

This home is all about those mood-enhancing views. You can soak it all in from the swimming pool (heated upon request), or whilst sipping drinks on the balcony. There’s also an outdoor sauna and plenty of chill-out spots to spread out and spend quality time together. Some of the furnishings are a little dated, but we think the sea views more than makeup for it. And for explorations further afield, it’s a short walk to the nearest beach (Havania is only 250 metres away), while the picturesque city of Agios Nikolaos is a short drive away. 

A Note from the Oracle

This villa is all about the view. It’s on a small hillside in Agios Nikolaos, looking out over Mirabello Bay. The terrace, with its private infinity pool, is a dreamy spot for gazing out at the blue sea. There’s also a pergola and a barbecue with an alfresco dining area. Inside, you’ll find luxuries like the Finnish sauna, which may come in handy after a workout – there’s exercise equipment here, along with a small basketball court. For days at the beach, you need only walk 200m to reach the Blue Flag-awarded Havania Beach. One guest will be on a sofa bed, which may not be suitable for everyone.

Built in the 1970s and retaining a bohemian charm with antique tiles and colourful furnishings, it's a magical place with gardens going right down the gently lapping shore. An oasis of calm, our favourite spot is the terrace, with its comfy seating and view across the water and the mountains. 

Fully staffed with a maid, chef and a team of gardeners, you need not lift a finger but keen cooks will enjoy getting to grips with the well-equipped kitchen and the barbecue, or just head into town for a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants. Just be sure to be back in time to see the sunset over the sea from your garden – it's really something special.

The sweeping coastal views from this newly-built villa may be heaven-sent, but it’s the lengthy pool and stylish sun terraces which are getting us hot under the collar. An excellent choice for two couples sharing, each bedroom has direct access to the wraparound panoramic balcony and an en-suite shower room to kickstart your day. Location-wise, the centre of Elounda and its wide sandy beach and seafront restaurants are just a two-kilometre stroll downhill –⁠ and you can always hop in a taxi on your way back home later.

Nestled on the side of a hill with a pretty view of the sparkling Aegean Sea, this villa is an excellent option for a large group looking for a week or so of pure escapism.

You'll feel a sense of peace as soon as you cross the stone bridge leading to the property and enter the gardens filled with olive trees and Mediterranean foliage. Head around to the rear of the address and you'll find a pair of infinity swimming pools with loungers and a hammock arranged invitingly around the sides. There's also a barbecue and plenty of terraces on which to enjoy food fresh off the grill.

It's not just the swimming pools that come in twos — there are two separate homes inside, each with a kitchen and lounge, which offers extra flexibility. Both have been treated to the same contemporary styling, with white walls, eye-catching lighting fixtures and an open fireplace for when after the sun's gone down. 

As you would hope with such proximity to the sea, there's a superb range of beaches nearby, starting from as close as five minutes' drive away. The resort town of Agios Nikolaos only takes eighteen minutes to reach in the car.

There's something wonderfully serene about this villa in Eastern Crete and much of that is down to the exquisite hilltop spot, which gives guests a front-row seat for gazing out at the blue waters of Mirabello Bay. You shouldn't find it too difficult to picture long spells out in the home's remarkable outside space, perhaps paddling in the pool or enjoying lavish feasts on the covered terrace.

The ample amount of large windows dotted across the villa's walls mean that you can appreciate the coastal vista from the comfort of your bed if you so wish. When you can finally prise your eyes away from this heavenly scenery, you'll be greeted with a contemporarily designed interior, heavy on clean lines, sleek surfaces and soothing neutrals. As well as looking the part, there's also a small collection of exercise and games equipment for guests to enjoy.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there are beaches starting from as close as seven minutes' walk away and the lively town of Elounda is only 4km up the coastline. It's also easy to catch a boat from Plaka over to the island of Spinalonga, too.

You needn't venture very far at all to get close to the water, however, with a private sunbathing platform offering direct access.

Should the sea be too choppy for swimming, simply head up to the infinity pool for a dip. Stretching towards the horizon, you'll have spectacular views here, making it the perfect spot to catch a sunset. When evening comes around, this home offers plenty of entertainment. Hire a private chef to tuck into Greek delicacies in the grand dining room, or if you'd rather dine alfresco the upper terrace is ideal. Post-dinner, unwind in the library, where you'll find a Steinway grand piano, or open a bottle of wine and gather around the 600-year-old working fireplace. Round off the night with a long soak in the Jacuzzi bath.

The scent of herbs in the air makes the spectacular sunsets all the sweeter. The home is on a hillside 3 kilometres from Elounda, so you’ll benefit from hiring a car to get around – and Agios Nikolaos is only 7 kilometres away too.

Up on a hilltop overlooking the sea, this stone villa has views as far as the eye can see. Three kilometres from the town of Elounda and facing east, at the end of the day you’ve got an unparalleled view of the sun setting over the water. Head into the charming harbour town of Agios Nikolaos, a ten-minute drive away, for an evening of shopping, tavernas or perhaps a day chartering a boat. 

Gardens bloom with olive trees and wildflowers all around the villa. Bag a poolside beanbag lounger to soak up the sun or relax in the shade of the veranda. A banquet-sized dining table provides the alfresco option on the terrace, alongside that fabulous view, so you can watch yachts cut across the ocean as you dine.
