The apartment is spread over two floors, with one bedroom on the top floor, ideal for a couple seeking a bit more privacy. There’s plenty of space here for everyone to spread out, and the kitchen and dining area means you can easily cook at home.

Just a short walk from Ammoudi Beach, you'll also be within strolling distance from the town's bars, shops and dining delights. Set up as three independent suites – the apartment offers three double bedrooms, each with a living area, kitchen, en-suite bathroom and private balcony terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. With the extra privacy of having three suites, this spot is the perfect option for couples or a group of friends travelling together. The serene balconies, free-standing bathtubs, espresso coffee machines and access to Netflix are the added home luxuries we like to see.

The terrace, with its private infinity pool, is a dreamy spot for gazing out at the blue sea. There’s also a pergola and a barbecue with an alfresco dining area. Inside, you’ll find luxuries like the Finnish sauna, which may come in handy after a workout – there’s exercise equipment here, along with a small basketball court. For days at the beach, you need only walk 200m to reach the Blue Flag-awarded Havania Beach. One guest will be on a sofa bed, which may not be suitable for everyone.

Nestled on the side of a hill with a pretty view of the sparkling Aegean Sea, this villa is an excellent option for a large group looking for a week or so of pure escapism.

You'll feel a sense of peace as soon as you cross the stone bridge leading to the property and enter the gardens filled with olive trees and Mediterranean foliage. Head around to the rear of the address and you'll find a pair of infinity swimming pools with loungers and a hammock arranged invitingly around the sides. There's also a barbecue and plenty of terraces on which to enjoy food fresh off the grill.

It's not just the swimming pools that come in twos — there are two separate homes inside, each with a kitchen and lounge, which offers extra flexibility. Both have been treated to the same contemporary styling, with white walls, eye-catching lighting fixtures and an open fireplace for when after the sun's gone down. 

As you would hope with such proximity to the sea, there's a superb range of beaches nearby, starting from as close as five minutes' drive away. The resort town of Agios Nikolaos only takes eighteen minutes to reach in the car.

At first glance, this villa perched on top of a Cretan cliff is an architectural marvel, but the most impressive aspects lie beyond its appearance. The architects behind the project used ecologically sensitive practices during construction, from natural paints and installing energy-efficient fittings to choosing sustainably sourced stone.

This should give you a sense of quiet satisfaction while you wind back and relax here, which is remarkably easy to do. The infinity pool has glorious views of Mirabello Bay, as well as cascading waterfalls and a Jacuzzi. After a dip, there are numerous terraces on which to take a breather, including a pergola with a barbecue underneath if you're feeling a little peckish.

In this corner of western Crete, you're not only spoiled for beaches, but history abounds in this area — the nearby island of Spinalonga can be reached by boat from Elounda and has an impressive fortress from its time under Venetian occupation.

With ample seating around the private pool and a shaded table for alfresco meals, this is a sun-lovers dream. The beaches along Mirabello Bay, including a sandy Almyros Beach, can be found only minutes away.

The sweeping coastal views from this newly-built villa may be heaven-sent, but it’s the lengthy pool and stylish sun terraces which are getting us hot under the collar. An excellent choice for two couples sharing, each bedroom has direct access to the wraparound panoramic balcony and an en-suite shower room to kickstart your day. Location-wise, the centre of Elounda and its wide sandy beach and seafront restaurants are just a two-kilometre stroll downhill –⁠ and you can always hop in a taxi on your way back home later.

This home is all about those mood-enhancing views. You can soak it all in from the swimming pool (heated upon request), or whilst sipping drinks on the balcony. There’s also an outdoor sauna and plenty of chill-out spots to spread out and spend quality time together. Some of the furnishings are a little dated, but we think the sea views more than makeup for it. And for explorations further afield, it’s a short walk to the nearest beach (Havania is only 250 metres away), while the picturesque city of Agios Nikolaos is a short drive away.

Just be sure to be back in time to see the sunset over the sea from your garden – it's really something special.

Gardens bloom with olive trees and wildflowers all around the villa. Bag a poolside beanbag lounger to soak up the sun or relax in the shade of the veranda. A banquet-sized dining table provides the alfresco option on the terrace, alongside that fabulous view, so you can watch yachts cut across the ocean as you dine. Perhaps the best place to enjoy the view is from the sun-trap roof terrace, lined with sofas. Pathways through the wild countryside are shared with another villa and lead to secret playparks and hammocks in the trees.

Inside, it’s calm and white with boho touches like big wicker lamps and wildflowers in vases. The home is on a hillside 3 kilometres from Elounda, so you’ll benefit from hiring a car to get around – and Agios Nikolaos is only 7 kilometres away too.

If you’d like to make your stay that extra bit special, call upon your host to arrange for an at-home massage. While there’s no proper kitchen here, the fantastic restaurants of Agios Nikolaos are a short drive away. And when it comes to sea and sand, Almyros Beach is footsteps from your building.
