Nestled on the side of a hill with a pretty view of the sparkling Aegean Sea, this villa is an excellent option for a large group looking for a week or so of pure escapism.

You'll feel a sense of peace as soon as you cross the stone bridge leading to the property and enter the gardens filled with olive trees and Mediterranean foliage. Head around to the rear of the address and you'll find a pair of infinity swimming pools with loungers and a hammock arranged invitingly around the sides. There's also a barbecue and plenty of terraces on which to enjoy food fresh off the grill.

It's not just the swimming pools that come in twos — there are two separate homes inside, each with a kitchen and lounge, which offers extra flexibility. Both have been treated to the same contemporary styling, with white walls, eye-catching lighting fixtures and an open fireplace for when after the sun's gone down. 

As you would hope with such proximity to the sea, there's a superb range of beaches nearby, starting from as close as five minutes' drive away. The resort town of Agios Nikolaos only takes eighteen minutes to reach in the car.



Pair of Aces

Just imagine dangling your bare feet into the crystal clear water off your own stone-built jetty. It's just one of the incredible experiences on offer at this luxury home close to Elounda. Boasting four en-suite bedrooms and perfect for a family or a group of friends, it's a smartly modernised home with a stunning setting, right on the coast. 

Built in the 1970s and retaining a bohemian charm with antique tiles and colourful furnishings, it's a magical place with gardens going right down the gently lapping shore. You'll even have access to a semi-private little beach – ideal for morning swims. An oasis of calm, our favourite spot is the terrace, with its comfy seating and view across the water and the mountains. 

Fully staffed with a maid, chef and a team of gardeners, you need not lift a finger but keen cooks will enjoy getting to grips with the well-equipped kitchen and the barbecue, or just head into town for a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants. Just be sure to be back in time to see the sunset over the sea from your garden – it's really something special.

Elemental Colour

What's better than one luxury villa? We think two luxury villas. This plot in the east of Crete is composed of twin homes, each with their own living areas, meaning there's plenty of room for groups of friends or families who want their own space. 

Inside, these houses have a welcoming, homely feel – look out for the antique furnishings that have been passed down in the host's family for generations. Some of the bedrooms have their own access to balconies and patios, where you can enjoy your morning coffee in perfect peace. Head out to the main outdoor space, and you'll find a glittering swimming pool where you can cool off from the heat, along with a hot tub, hammocks, and plenty of sun loungers. And, when you get thirsty, simply pick some fresh lemons from one of the trees in the garden to garnish your drink.  

The water's edge is just 100m away from here, and there's a second beach just four minutes' walk away which is ideal for swimming. You'll also find a selection of restaurants and tavernas nearby for when you need to refuel. If you have a car, we recommend spending a day exploring Crete's stunning coastline, stopping off at the little harbour villages along the way. Or, head inland and hike through the Dikti Mountains – jaw-dropping views are guaranteed.  

Sun, Stars & Moon

Sitting just across the bay from Almyros Beach and with direct access to the sandy shore, this boho-chic villa provides some gorgeous views of the ocean as well as the rolling hills that surround it. The stunning pool deck is a real jaw-dropper – the water seems to stretch out infinitely as it blends with the sea behind it. Here, you'll find loungers for relaxing with cocktails, plus a covered terrace with a lounge and dining area for living alfresco. Inside, natural materials blend with a neutral colour scheme, along with exposed stone walls and beam ceilings, all giving the home a warm and stylish feel.

The Ancient Greek Grove

You'll find this sleek villa a stone's throw from Agios Nikolaos, one of Crete's most popular spots. The outside space here is obviously a highlight. Between the multiple sea-facing balconies, sunny terrace and private heated pool, there are plenty of places to unwind with a glass of wine while admiring the endless blue scenery. While the views are hard to beat, the contemporary interior stacks up quite well. Picture windows flood each room with light, relaxing rainfall showers await in the bathrooms and the modern kitchen has everything you need to whip up dinner. Better yet, speak to your host about hiring a private chef to do all the cooking for you.

The Hippocrene Haven

Located on the outskirts of Plaka, this stylish villa occupies a prestigious hillside spot, offering sensational views over the Elounda Gulf. Boasting chic furnishings and great attention to detail, the warm hues of the home blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Start the day by stepping onto the terrace to enjoy the spectacular seascapes from one of the comfy day beds, before a cooling dip in the private infinity pool. 

Venture down to the garden's lower level and you'll find a lush green lawn with a children's play area, perfect for keeping the little ones entertained. If you ever manage to tear yourself away from the villa, you needn't venture too far to get a taste of Plaka, with steps from the terrace leading down to a pebble beach. Relax on the shores and let the waves wash over your toes for a while. Hikers will no doubt appreciate the area's towering mountains that house numerous caves to explore.

At the end of an adventure-filled day, head home to whip up some Greek-inspired dishes in the outdoor kitchen. We highly recommend dining alfresco beneath the pergola, then moving over to the outdoor lounge to enjoy a few cocktails while the sun sets over the horizon.


Harmony in the Hills 

Homespun and unfussy, this stone villa is the ideal place for relaxing with your loved ones – that is, when you’re not stretched out on the shores of Istron Bay (less than a ten-minute stroll from your doorstep).

Cook up traditional Cretan cuisine in the farmhouse-style kitchen, then serve at the outdoor dining table on the flagstone terrace. While away the hours in the pool or from the comfort of a lounger – the south-facing position of the abode means you get sunshine all day long. 

The quiet bedrooms demand cat naps in the afternoon but if you’re itching to explore, the nearby hotel has a variety of amenities to keep the whole family busy. Practice your drop shot on the tennis courts as the little ones let off some steam in the children’s club. Retreat to your pad in the evening for a glass of wine alfresco as the sky turns pink.

Blissful Sun

This brand, spanking new home mere minutes from the beach is a sure-fire Greek delight. Surrounded by gorgeous gardens and offering captivating Cretan views, this paradisal pad guarantees more than your daily dose of peace and tranquillity. Featuring an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room – think all-white everything – and an incredible outdoor offering, it’s perfect for spending quality time with your nearest and dearest. 

Enjoy breakfast in the light-filled living space before padding across the gleaming marble-tiled floors and stepping out onto the patio. Head over to the covered terrace and get stuck into your holiday read while nesting on the outdoor furniture. Sun worshippers will want to lie out on the loungers beside the pool before taking the plunge. If, however, you’re feeling a little more energetic, why not tough it out on the exercise bike before rinsing off under the outdoor shower? Spend the afternoon gathered around the stone wall barbecue and dining alfresco on the terrace while admiring mesmerising mountain views. 

Alternatively, hang out at the beach – just a 3-minute walk away – before preparing a family-sized Greek salad on the white worktops in the kitchen. Make a beeline for your balcony and enjoy sea views at sundown or get the gang together for cocktails and cards on the patio. At the day’s end, savour a little me-time while luxuriating in the jacuzzi bath. 

If sightseeing or taverna hopping is more your vibe, Georgiopoulis, with its picturesque harbour and sociable central square, is only 7km away. Rethymnon is also within easy reach.


Minoan Memories

With beautiful views over Spinalonga Island, this villa has a wonderful location – we particularly love the vistas from the bedrooms and living room. On chilly nights, there’s a feature wood burner to cosy up in front of and when it's lovely and warm there’s a stone wall-enclosed terrace with a small pool/Jacuzzi to relax in. Out and about, go for a stroll on one of the stunning beaches of Elounda Bay or head to Agios Nikolaos with its array of bars and restaurants.

Perkali

This amazing villa is a hidden oasis on Meakis Beach, only a two-minute walk from your doorstep to the privacy of these isolated sands, shaded by tamarisk trees. The home consists of three main blocks, the main house, guest block, and an extra guest bedroom located close to the beach - perfect for large family or friend reunions. 

Four pergola-covered terraces feature a lounge seating area, dining tables, two barbecues – one of which is on the terrace by the sea – and even an outdoor kitchen. Start your first day right with breakfast from the welcome hamper provided by the host. Lunch on Greek salads from the comfort of a sofa, and for dinner, why not try your hand at making dolmades or barbecue some kofta? 

Let off some steam with the gym equipment provided including; a Pilates ball, training weights, or explore one of the running trials. When it’s time to cool down - swim up to the edge, and overlook the stunning sea from your large, private infinity pool, before drying off on a sun lounger.  

The village of Arvi – where you’ll find supermarkets and local taverns – is just a seven-minute drive along the coast, while "Korakia", a Venetian Castle, is just a thirty-minute drive away. If you wish to venture even further, Heraklion city on the other side of the island will take about an hour and a half by car, and is home to the Minoan Palace of Knossos, Koules Fortress, Heraklion Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral of St. Minas, and much more.

Poseidon's Infinity

Within walking distance of Gouves beach and a short drive from Heraklion, this villa's location and facilities make it shine. The large garden is equipped with a barbecue area and private pool, and the downstairs game room with billiards is great for families. There are no bedrooms on the ground floor here, so guests with limited mobility may be better off looking elsewhere. But with a kitchenette as well as the main kitchen and more bed space than guest space, there's plenty of room for everyone.

Serenity on the Island

This villa – and its two separate guest rooms – is great for large groups. There’s heaps of space inside and out, with eight en-suite bedrooms and a lovely landscaped garden with terraces. The views are show-stopping – whether you’re dining under the pergola or swimming in the infinity pool, your eye will be drawn out to Elounda Bay. The scent of herbs in the air makes the spectacular sunsets all the sweeter. The home is on a hillside 3 kilometres from Elounda, so you’ll benefit from hiring a car to get around – and Agios Nikolaos is only 7 kilometres away too.
