The bathtub in the living area takes some getting used to, but you can't deny that its panoramas are fantastic, especially the glimpse of Capri. Will today be for lounging by the pool, feeling the sun’s rays warm your face as the day takes on a hazy, almost Botticelli-esque quality and the scent of the ancient lemon grove which surrounds the property perfumes the air with its heady citrus scent? Or perhaps today is the day for setting off on one of the numerous paths that criss-cross the verdant landscapes of this unspoilt peninsula, stopping along the way to admire spectacular vistas encompassing everything from rows of olive trees to pastel-hued villages and distant sailboats bobbing on the glittering Gulf of Naples. This charming two-storey apartment makes the most of its seaside spot with an upside-down layout – bedrooms on the entrance level, and an open kitchen and living area on the first floor, leading out onto that show-stealing terrace. Floor-to-ceiling doors fold back to allow easy access to the outdoors, where you can soak up the sun on the rattan-style seating, pop the umbrella up for some respite from the midday sun, or barbecue a banquet for the whole party on the grill. 

White and blue dominate the decor throughout, reflecting the azure hues of the sea and sky, plus the occasional passing cloud. The main bedroom also boasts its own private balcony that opens out onto fragrant lemon and olive trees that are used to create all manner of sumptuous local products.

Best of all, the outside space is wonderful. The terrace has an outdoor kitchen and a barbecue with glorious views. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to spend all your time out here. When you’re not cooking or dining, you can stretch out on a sofa and drink in the view as you top up your tan. Children will love the free-standing swimming pool, too. 

It takes around ten minutes to stroll to Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, where you can shop and dine out. Slightly further afield but still within easy reach is Massa Lubrense, a pretty town known for its pastel-coloured houses perched on cliffs. Stroll around the harbour to admire the boats while tucking into gelato. Sorrento and all of its beauty and style are a twenty-minute drive away. There’s something for everyone here.

Spread over three floors, with a living room, kitchen, bedrooms and at least one bathroom on each floor, it’s an ideal base for a few families to share. Everyone can enjoy their own space and still gather together easily. 

We love the outside space here, whether it’s the sunny private swimming pool and the sun loungers alongside it, or the balconies. You can prepare your breakfast and morning coffee and take it outside to enjoy in the sunshine, all the while drinking in those marvellous views. You can always find a spot in the shade too, ideal for the afternoon when the Italian sun is beating down on the tiles.

Inside, you can enjoy the view from the living rooms and kitchens too. Windows are a big part of the traditional decor here, so if you need to take a break from the sun you won’t miss out. Once the residence of the noble d'Avalos family, this 18th-century villa close to the tip of the Amalfi Coast still retains an air of grandeur.
