You’ll also find a great restaurant nearby, but we imagine you’ll love dining at home thanks to the outdoor kitchen and barbecue. There’s also a private pool and plenty of lounging spots, while the cool interior makes it easy to switch off after a day in the sun. Each of the bedrooms has direct access to the garden and there are en-suite bathrooms – adding a wonderful sense of privacy.

What the apartment lacks in kitchen facilities, it more than makes up for in proximity to delightful local cafes and family-run restaurants, plus dramatic views over the Gulf of Naples from nearby Piazzetta Marinella and its adjacent beach might persuade you to stay put.

It’s a short drive from Sorrento, with a path that leads directly from the villa to the village of Sant’Elia, through a beautiful valley. You’ll have everything you might need for a relaxing stay here, with a hot tub, private outdoor heated pool, and an alfresco dining space – your host can arrange for a chef to prepare Italian feasts. There’s also exercise equipment, should you fancy a work out – I think we'd prefer to unwind on a sun lounger, though.

With so much within walking distance and excellent transport links nearby for jaunts further afield, a car isn’t needed here. Though with Piano di Sorrento beach a short stroll away, you’ll likely find yourself drawn to the coast.

As well as being close to all the city sights, you’ll also be just 700 metres from pebbly Spiaggia La Marinella and 3 kilometres from the sandy shores of Marina Grande. There’s also a bus stop nearby, so you can easily visit Positano and Amalfi.
