With tranquil views of the Apennine mountains from the garden’s shady seating area, we doubt you’ll even want to leave the grounds – but if you do, you’ll find Portofino, Pisa, and Florence all within driving distance. Unwind by the pool during the day and cosy up around the fire pit come evening, or curl up with a book in one of the bright living areas. If you find yourself a little too relaxed, you can always get the adrenaline pumping with nearby activities such as paragliding over the Cinque Terre, rock climbing at Via Ferrata, rafting and hiking. The home has been designed as a space to reconnect with nature, but fear not; there’s also wi-fi, a flat-screen TV and a wireless sound system to enjoy.

Deep within the green Ligurian hills behind the famous Cinque Terre (a 35-kilometre drive away), this villa offers an escape from it all. After exploring the surrounding scenery by bike or on foot, you can kick back by the poolside, play games on vast lawns or gather for alfresco feasts on the covered barbecue terrace. This place consists of two separate villas, each with its own open kitchen, living and dining room for social evenings together. The traditional feel of some of the furnishings and bathrooms won’t be for everyone, but the vast, manicured space outside makes up for it.

What this home may lack in style, it makes up for in location. Nestled in the hills of Moneglia, it commands views across the bay and is well-connected by train to Genoa and the coastal villages of the Cinque Terre. Admire the views from a lounger on the terrace, or head down to the pool, which stays relatively shady and cool thanks to the surrounding trees. The furnishings are a little dated, but at least there are sea views in the upper bedrooms, while the large sliding glass doors mean you're never far away from a sunny seat. Plus, the glass dining table comfortably seats your entire group, so you can also enjoy meals together – that's if you don't wander into Moneglia to try one of the restaurants on the palm-tree-lined streets.

This modern villa enjoys a prime position, five minutes’ drive from the beaches of the Ligurian coast (Bocca di Magra is the closest). The famous Cinque Terre route is an ideal day trip, where colourful fishing villages dot the cliffs. This villa would suit those that don’t like a lot of clutter as it is sparsely furnished with the essentials for a holiday in the sun. It consists of a main villa with a large living room, fully-equipped kitchen and dining for the group, plus a separate dependence with its own small kitchen and living room. The highlight is the private pool with loungers and dining on the terrace as the Ligurian hills rise in the background.

When you want to explore, you'll find Strozzi Palace close by, as well as Florence Santa Maria Novella station, connecting you to the rest of Tuscany and beyond.

Set on a farm in Tuscany, this house blends rustic charms with a wealth of unforgettable experiences. The house is one of six rooms and casitas, and guests have access to a vast, crystalline pool that overlooks the rolling hills and vineyards. The farm produces its own Tuscan olive oil and honey, and there is even a top rated restaurant where you can sample some of the farm’s produce. Days can be spent riding the horses from the stable, exploring the area by E-bike, or taking a cookery class at the restaurant, where you might learn how to make fresh pasta or cantuccini. On more relaxed afternoons, treat yourself to a spa or beauty treatment – there is nothing more serene than a massage in the garden, with a gentle breeze and a soundtrack of cicadas.

You will easily fall into the laidback Italian way of life here, and will come away feeling inspired and rejuvenated.

A handful of shops and restaurants are a five-minute walk away and just outside the villa, a (very steep) path leads down to Punta Corvo's Beach. The colourful fishing villages of the Cinque Terre and within day-tripping distance too. Put the full kitchen through its paces by hiring a private chef. It’s a fairly higglety-pigglety layout, owing to the age of the building, and you’ll find three bedrooms in the main villa and a fourth bedroom in a separate garden apartment.
