Wow, were the words we uttered when we walked into the living room of this home and saw the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and River Arno. The vistas are even better from the balcony – it's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and the Florentine skyline. Housed in a beautiful building, this recently renovated, elegant apartment is a lovely place to spend time in with its designer sofa, marble fireplace and gorgeous herringbone patterned wood floors.

If you want to explore what you can see from this home, it's around a thirty-second stroll to Ponte Vecchio, while the Uffizi Gallery is a four-minute walk. It's the same walking distance to Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments. Other attractions nearby include the Strozzi Palace, which is eight minutes on foot. This home is ideal for two couples, a group of friends or a family wanting to be within walking distance of this glorious city's treasures.

When we came across this quaint apartment, we did a double-take. While it may be a bit old-school in style, it has lots of charm for a city stay. Set on the third floor, with a private balcony overlooking the rooftops of Florence, there's no lack of character here – that being said, it may feel a little dated in parts. And, while the bedrooms are semi-open, limiting privacy, its location in the historic district makes it a good choice for those keen to be close to the action.

Found in a 17th-century building only minutes from the Ponte alle Grazie, this modern apartment has some of the best landmarks nearby. Both Palazzo Vecchio and the Basilica of Santa Croce can be found on foot, but the location isn't all this home has to offer. The sleek kitchen is where you can put newly acquired pasta-making skills to use. You'll also find a wine fridge here for stocking the perfect vintage. There's plenty of space, even with four guests sleeping on sofa beds. And the courtyard seating with a vertical garden is a really nice added bonus, especially for sunset drinks. 

17th Century Florence

Nestled in the heart of Florence’s historical centre, you’ll find bars, restaurants, and shops aplenty on the doorstep, as well as the city’s oldest market. And with Duomo di Firenze, Boboli Gardens, and Ponte Vecchio all within walking distance, you won’t have to venture far to explore they city’s must-sees. We love the traditional features in this home but the bedroom doesn’t have a door so privacy here is limited. It’s also worth noting that it’s on the third floor, without a lift. If climbing sixty-five steps to the front door isn’t a deal-breaker, we think this place is a great find for a couple or solo traveller seeking a central spot.

Just four minutes from the Ponte Vecchio on foot, this home's location alone is enough reason for us to praise it to the skies. It sits along a steep, cobbled street in the heart of Florence's historic centre and boasts proximity to all the main sights on foot. You couldn't ask for a better location, less than a twenty-minute stroll from the Duomo and the famous Piazzale Michelangelo viewpoint and even closer to the Pitti Palace's museums and gardens. 

The interior is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between authentic charm and contemporary comfort. We especially love the open-plan living space, primed for relaxation with a compact yet equipped kitchen, a large dining table, a cosy lounge and a majestic fireplace. Perched on the second floor, it feels delightfully peaceful despite its central location and offers beautiful views from its large shuttered windows. After a day of adventure, enjoy a glass of wine while admiring your scenic surroundings before slipping out for your reservation at one of the many eateries nearby.

In an enviable location directly on the River Arno, this home offers ample space and stunning views. We think it’d be very well suited to groups of friends or families, as it has a great social space but individual guests can still have their privacy. You can imagine the main area being used for hosting dinner parties, or just for relaxing on the sofa after a day of exploring. We thought the bathrooms were a little on the small side, but in a home this beautiful in this location, we can look past that.

This apartment is a great base for a family or a group of friends visiting Florence. Situated close to all the historical sights, you can walk to landmarks like the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, while good public transport connections mean that you can easily reach other parts of the city, too. With comfy bedrooms and plenty of space for dining, not to mention the small private balcony, this place has everything to make your stay here an enjoyable one. There's even a desk if you need to catch up on work. And while the kitchen is on the smaller side (though still well-equipped), you'll find an array of delicious eateries a short stroll away.

It’s worth noting you can hear street noise from one of the bedrooms, but we think the location more than makes up for it. From here, it’s just a short stroll to iconic sights like the beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce, the Market of Sant'Ambrogio and the Duomo.

This elegant Florence home delivers on both style and location. Set in the historic centre, you’re five minutes on foot from the Galleria dell’Accademia and ten to the majestic Duomo – a spot-on base for exploring. Despite the building’s heritage charm (don't get us started on those magnificent gabled ceilings), the apartment is surprisingly practical. Each generously proportioned bedroom has a separate shower room – so there’s no need to tussle for the best room here. All that said, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is on the compact side, and the apartment building has no lift, so be prepared to climb some stairs. But for a home delivering on so much else, we'll let that slide.

Each of the two bedrooms is surprisingly spacious, and both come with their own mezzanine level – ideal for spreading out and stashing luggage. It's comfortable, authentic and perfectly placed for strolling to the Ponte Vecchio, Boboli Gardens or the boutiques of Via Maggio in minutes.

The Holy Heart

Delivering knockout vistas of the Florentine hills from a private suntrap terrace and set within easy walking distance of the city’s must-sees, it’s no surprise this home caught our eye. By inner-city Florence standards, this apartment set over two floors is palatial. There’s a banquet-worthy dining room and a well-equipped Italian-style kitchen. Though, with countless trattorias just a stroll away, we suspect you’ll be eating out a lot. It’s worth noting, at full occupancy, the last two guests will have to make do with a single bed and pull-out bed in the cosy fourth bedroom. Fine for a short stay or children sharing – but it might not float everyone’s boat.

Florentine Hills

Gaze out at the iconic domed cathedral from the comfort of this spectacular city-centre apartment. Set within an eye-catching period building, complete with imposing wooden double doors, along the rather lovely Via dei Servi, which connects the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. 

This narrow street is lined with a wide array of shops, charming cafes, and traditional restaurants, which should be your first port of call when you get the urge to head out and explore the city. For a closer look at the duomo, you need only walk a couple of minutes to the bustling piazza that surrounds it. Wandering a little over 100m in the opposite direction will lead to the fascinating Leonardo da Vinci Museum, which is filled with life-sized machines based on his many sketches. 

For more Renaissance creations, the iconic Uffizi Gallery lies around 700m to the south – well within walking distance. We'd recommend a leisurely riverside stroll along the River Arno afterwards, or if you're feeling active, head out on a stand-up paddleboarding expedition downriver.

Inside, the apartment is all clean lines and contemporary design, the exposed wood of the soaring ceilings and large wood-framed windows are the main clues to the building's extensive history. An open kitchen and living area combines Scandinavian style with Italian flair to create a stylish space with a real soul.

The Mannerists

Brilliantly efficient, Blue Heron combines easy living with a great location. The design here is clean, modern, and comfortable, but because it’s run by a management company it does lack a bit of character. We won’t hold that against Blue Heron though, because you’ll find it in the very heart of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo. Better yet, this street is quiet and surprisingly uncrowded given its proximity to Florence’s biggest tourist attraction. There’s even a charming balcony that looks the courtyard – a perfect spot for an espresso or a glass of wine.

Blue Heron

In Italian construction, the 'piano nobile' refers to the storey of a building — typically the first — on which the nobility would reside, therefore being designed to get the most favourable living conditions. This apartment in a fifteenth-century building is a prime example of how this looks in practice. High ceilings and large windows (through some of which the Duomo can be spotted) make the interior feel bright and inviting, while being positioned above street level means that it's a little more peaceful than elsewhere in the building. While there are some period features — the fresco ceilings and the imposing oak front door — the apartment has been modernised in the ensuing six hundred years or so. The parquet flooring, marble bathrooms and mid-century style furniture in deep blues and greens are today's emblems of fine taste. When you're ready to go exploring, you don't have far to go — Basilica di San Lorenzo and Riccardi Medici Palace are just across the street, while the Duomo is only five minutes' walk away.

Sixth Sense

Set over three floors of a medieval tower, this characterful apartment is a bit of a climb, but trust us, it's worth it. With its tiled floors, antique furniture and stone walls, there's plenty of rustic charm on offer. But head on up the spiral staircase to the top-floor lounge, and you'll be blown away by the panoramic views. From up here, the entire city is stretched out before you. Admire the iconic red dome of the Duomo, watch the sunset over the Palazzo Vecchio and spot the spires of the Basilica of Santa Croce. Day or night, the sweeping scenes are some of the best in Florence, and they're entirely your own. Just grab a glass of wine and take it all in from the cosy sofa. Downstairs, there's a quaint dine-in kitchen, well-equipped for rustling up an Italian feast. And when you're ready to venture out and explore the famous sights for yourself, most monuments and museums are only a ten-minute walk away.

Located in an elegant 19th-century building, you can take in the views over one of Florence’s most fashionable shopping streets from the apartment's windows. This home is a great choice for couples, families or friends looking to be surrounded by luxury boutiques and iconic landmarks.

It’s perfectly located for exploring the city, with most of the main attractions a ten-fifteen-minute walk away, including Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. The Basilica of Santa Croce is a few steps away, and the apartment boasts spectacular views of Florentine rooftops. The apartment is full of historic charm – we love the frescoed ceilings – and has plenty of space for all twelve guests to spend time together. 

Terracotta Embrace

In the heart of Florence, this apartment puts you within walking distance of the city's many famous landmarks. Among them are the Duomo (ten minutes on foot), Uffizi Gallery (a fifteen-minute walk) and Ponte Vecchio (also reachable in fifteen minutes) – not to mention a bevvy of shops and restaurants. Due to its ground-floor position, there's little natural light here. But we can overlook that since there's something better – a private courtyard garden. Outdoor space is rare in this postcode, making it the perfect spot for post-sightseeing aperitifs. As the living area has a sofa bed, we recommend this pad for short trips, especially if you're a group of six.

Florence Belle

Just footsteps from the shop-lined medieval Ponte Vecchio Bridge, this apartment sits on the banks of the River Arno. If you’re not visiting the riverside restaurants or ancient jewellery shops of the bridge on your doorstep, make the two-minute walk to the Ufizzi Gallery to discover the world-famous Renaissance art inside. 

Inside, it’s a modern haven of calm, despite the super central location. Wooden floors complement pristine white walls in the open-plan living area. Sun-filled breakfasts can be taken at the dining table by the big window and the kitchen is tucked away in a separate room with an additional dining table. The little terracotta-tiled balcony is a real bonus, with its bistro table set looking out over the internal courtyard.

Just outside Florence's historic centre – reachable in thirty minutes or so on foot – this sprawling apartment makes a fantastic home-from-home. Vintage touches abound, bringing a warm, welcoming atmosphere to every room. Play a tune on the piano, curl up with a well-thumbed book, or put together an Italian feast in the kitchen – you'll have plenty of space to sprawl out comfortably. There's also a balcony here, which isn't the biggest but offers a glimpse of the famous Florence Cathedral and Palazzo Vecchio.

Renaissance Dream

Stunning panoramic views await in this top-floor studio apartment. The scenery speaks for itself – you'll wake up to Palazzo Pitti and drift off to the Duomo. Perched in the building's watchtower, it's part of an ancient palace dating back to 1470. If you love traditional features, this is the home for you – expect terracotta floors, wooden ceilings, a Renaissance courtyard steeped in history, and, of course, large windows that frame the Florentine skyline. Granted, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is compact, and there are quite a lot of stairs. Still, with vistas as good as this and an impeccable location, we think that's a worthwhile compromise.

A View of Dreams

Central and attractive, this apartment is a wonderful choice of home-from-home in Florence. Style-wise, it’s simple and fuss-free, a calm and relaxing space to return to after busy days in the city. With six guests staying here, two will sleep on a sofa bed in the living and dining space – so for more space for socialising, we’d stick to a maximum guest count of four. The apartment looks out over Mercato Centrale, a fabulous meeting spot with restaurants, local eateries, and fruit and veg sellers. You’ll also be a short walk from the Duomo and only 600 metres from Santa Maria Novella station. 

Renaissance Splendour

Apex has so many things going for it that focussing on the specifics seems unfair. Needless to say that everything in the flat is of the highest quality, whether that’s the carrara marble in the bathroom, or the four-poster bed. In fact it’s the bedrooms (or three of them anyway) that make the biggest impression. They’re what you might imagine from a seventeenth-century noble mansion, and while obviously all these things are personal preferences, they make for a seriously good night’s sleep.

Housed in a historical building, just a stone’s throw from the Piazza di Santa Croce, this apartment mixes original architectural fixtures like double-height ceilings with antique furnishings, intricate frescoes and the occasional swipe of colour.  We were particularly fond of the Venetian plaster walls and the king-size bed dating back to the 1800s. 

Mornings begin with breakfast in the rustic kitchen before curling up on the armchair with a book pulled from the shelves and a cup of milky coffee. If the weather is fair, head out onto your private terrace and bask in the golden sunshine. 

When you’re keen to explore a little, take the ten-minute wander to the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, followed by a stroll along the River Arno. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop by one of the many eateries that surround your home (the gelateria on Via dei Neri is a must for afters.)

It’s right by the Duomo, opposite the Baptistry of St John. The centre of Florence isn’t especially big, but even so, you can’t get more convenient than this.
