This apartment offers a relaxed and easy stay in the historic heart of Florence. Nestled inside a Palazzo dating back to 1500, you’ll be welcomed by a wonderful sense of character. It’s worth noting you can hear street noise from one of the bedrooms, but we think the location more than makes up for it. Wow, were the words we uttered when we walked into the living room of this home and saw the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and River Arno. Housed in a beautiful building, this recently renovated, elegant apartment is a lovely place to spend time in with its designer sofa, marble fireplace and gorgeous herringbone patterned wood floors.

If you want to explore what you can see from this home, it's around a thirty-second stroll to Ponte Vecchio, while the Uffizi Gallery is a four-minute walk. It's the same walking distance to Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments. Other attractions nearby include the Strozzi Palace, which is eight minutes on foot. This home is ideal for two couples, a group of friends or a family wanting to be within walking distance of this glorious city's treasures.

We were sold on this Florentine apartment's private terrace alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the lofted living space. While both double bedrooms are charming, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed in the lounge, which is overlooked by the loft bedroom balcony above. So, while it's an impressive feature, it's not the most private space. Set in the characterful Santa Croce district, you're set back from the tourist traps immediately around the Duomo yet within easy walking distance of the must-see sights. Get off to a flying start at Piazza Santa Croce – it's just around the corner.

Renaissance Hideaway

Visiting Florence is always a good idea, and staying in this historic palazzo makes it all the more memorable. You’ll be in an incredible location, between the iconic Ponte Vecchio and  Ponte Santa Trinita – you can admire the four seasons statues from the living room windows. This home comprises two suites with bedrooms at mezzanine level above the living spaces, and a third bedroom. There’s plenty of space – you can unwind here in between exploring Florence.

Brilliantly efficient, Blue Heron combines easy living with a great location. The design here is clean, modern, and comfortable, but because it’s run by a management company it does lack a bit of character. We won’t hold that against Blue Heron though, because you’ll find it in the very heart of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo. Better yet, this street is quiet and surprisingly uncrowded given its proximity to Florence’s biggest tourist attraction. There’s even a charming balcony that looks the courtyard – a perfect spot for an espresso or a glass of wine.

Admire the vistas of the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio from this beautiful, newly renovated apartment. It's the perfect choice for a group of friends or family looking for a fabulous location in the heart of the city. Located in an elegant building, this home's large and bright living room is a lovely place to relax in. Rustle up a papardelle al cinghiale in the modern kitchen, or if you prefer to eat out, there are plenty of sublime restaurants within walking distance. 

If you want to visit some of Florence's best-loved attractions, you're in luck. Palazzo Vecchio is a four-minute stroll, while the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is an eight-minute walk. Or see the magnificent Ponte Vecchio more up close – it's a ten-second hop and a skip, while Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, is a six-minute saunter away. In Italian construction, the 'piano nobile' refers to the storey of a building — typically the first — on which the nobility would reside, therefore being designed to get the most favourable living conditions. This apartment in a fifteenth-century building is a prime example of how this looks in practice. High ceilings and large windows (through some of which the Duomo can be spotted) make the interior feel bright and inviting, while being positioned above street level means that it's a little more peaceful than elsewhere in the building. While there are some period features — the fresco ceilings and the imposing oak front door — the apartment has been modernised in the ensuing six hundred years or so. The parquet flooring, marble bathrooms and mid-century style furniture in deep blues and greens are today's emblems of fine taste. When you're ready to go exploring, you don't have far to go — Basilica di San Lorenzo and Riccardi Medici Palace are just across the street, while the Duomo is only five minutes' walk away.

Sixth Sense

Marrying contemporary design with Italian flair, this apartment is a stylish base in the heart of Florence. The living space boasts modern artwork and a small kitchen. That said, with delicious eateries nearby, dining out will likely be on the cards. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms ensure there's plenty of privacy, too. However, the location is what makes this place a real star. A stroll in one direction will take you to Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi Galleries. Head the opposite way to see the striking Basilica di Santa Croce and historic Teatro Verdi. Exploring on foot is a breeze here – it's perfect for those keen in the centre of the action.

Speaking of exploring, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to cultural hotspots nearby with the Uffizi Gallery a seven-minute walk, Ponte Vecchio a nine-minute stroll and the famous Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore thirteen minutes away on foot. 


Arno Poetry

Footsteps from the train station, this apartment sits between the red-roofed buildings and ancient churches of Florence’s centre. It’s styled for the perfect escape to a historic and culture-filled city with darkwood, wrought iron and chandeliers grabbing your attention. We adore the ceiling motif – layers of old parchments and book pages with a clutter of bric-a-brac, as though somebody raided one of the city’s museum store room and fixed the contents to the old wood beams. Then there are the 16th-century frescoes that have been restored, and the kitchen made from old medieval doors. A second kitchen downstairs is all sleek modernity, but the upstairs bedrooms embrace the old world with velvet and hand-painted headboards. 

All of Florence is on your doorstep here, with Piazza della Signoria two steps away and the ancient streets leading to the central Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in ten minutes on foot.

Found in a 17th-century building only minutes from the Ponte alle Grazie, this modern apartment has some of the best landmarks nearby. Both Palazzo Vecchio and the Basilica of Santa Croce can be found on foot, but the location isn't all this home has to offer. The sleek kitchen is where you can put newly acquired pasta-making skills to use. You'll also find a wine fridge here for stocking the perfect vintage. There's plenty of space, even with four guests sleeping on sofa beds. And the courtyard seating with a vertical garden is a really nice added bonus, especially for sunset drinks.

Location is the name of the game at this one-bed in Florence. It's near Piazza Santissima Annunziata, away from the tourist throngs, but close enough to the action that you can do a lot on foot. The area is also a hive of activity with artisan shops and studios dotted around the streets, as well as cafes, bars and restaurants aplenty. And, with a large, private terrace at your disposal, you can cap the day off with a cocktail or meal alfresco, with views over the landscaped gardens below.

This apartment is a great base for a family or a group of friends visiting Florence. Situated close to all the historical sights, you can walk to landmarks like the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, while good public transport connections mean that you can easily reach other parts of the city, too. With comfy bedrooms and plenty of space for dining, not to mention the small private balcony, this place has everything to make your stay here an enjoyable one. There's even a desk if you need to catch up on work. And while the kitchen is on the smaller side (though still well-equipped), you'll find an array of delicious eateries a short stroll away.

The Symmetry

Apex has so many things going for it that focussing on the specifics seems unfair. Needless to say that everything in the flat is of the highest quality, whether that’s the carrara marble in the bathroom, or the four-poster bed. In fact it’s the bedrooms (or three of them anyway) that make the biggest impression. They’re what you might imagine from a seventeenth-century noble mansion, and while obviously all these things are personal preferences, they make for a seriously good night’s sleep.

Housed in a historical building, just a stone’s throw from the Piazza di Santa Croce, this apartment mixes original architectural fixtures like double-height ceilings with antique furnishings, intricate frescoes and the occasional swipe of colour.  We were particularly fond of the Venetian plaster walls and the king-size bed dating back to the 1800s. 

Mornings begin with breakfast in the rustic kitchen before curling up on the armchair with a book pulled from the shelves and a cup of milky coffee. If the weather is fair, head out onto your private terrace and bask in the golden sunshine. 

When you’re keen to explore a little, take the ten-minute wander to the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, followed by a stroll along the River Arno. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop by one of the many eateries that surround your home (the gelateria on Via dei Neri is a must for afters.)

By inner-city Florence standards, this apartment set over two floors is palatial. There’s a banquet-worthy dining room and a well-equipped Italian-style kitchen. Though, with countless trattorias just a stroll away, we suspect you’ll be eating out a lot. It’s worth noting, at full occupancy, the last two guests will have to make do with a single bed and pull-out bed in the cosy fourth bedroom. Fine for a short stay or children sharing – but it might not float everyone’s boat.

With jaw-dropping frescoes and standout designer interiors, it’s no wonder this central Florentine apartment has graced the pages of the decor bible, Architectural Digest. Delivering split-level living with a huge open plan living and kitchen area taking centre stage, you’d hardly believe this home is designed just for two. If we were being picky, the bed feels a little big for the bedroom – but a dressing room and two bathrooms more than make up for that. Set in the heart of historic Santa Croche, it’s surprisingly quiet here. But when you’re ready to dive into the city’s bustle, all the hotspots, including the mighty Accademia Galleries and Basilica of Santa Croce, are just a stroll away.

Take things easy on one of two gorgeous balconies belonging to this dream of an apartment a short walk from central Florence. With views across the rooftops to the green hills, it's just about 50 metres from Ponte Viejo and Piazza Pitti.

A romantic retreat for two at the top of a traditional building, it's bright, neatly laid out and super comfortable. In the summer months, all you'll need is the small but practical kitchen, the outdoor dining table – shaded from the sun with an awning – and the squashy outdoor corner sofa. Set in a historic building (which used to be the Habsburg embassy in the nineteenth century), Eyes To The Sky makes an impression from very early on. It’s ridiculously grand, with double-height, frescoed ceilings, and antique furniture (along with a few modern, designer additions). It’s just around the corner from Piazza della Libertà, so it’s just away from the most crowded parts of the centre, but even walking to the Ponte Vecchio doesn’t take more than twenty minutes.


Eyes To The Sky

Not many people have the privilege of saying that their local church dates back to the late thirteenth century and is one of the largest such buildings in the world, but you can include yourself in this number if you stay in this apartment five minutes' walk from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Aside from the illustrious neighbour, there's plenty to like about this home on the first floor of a historic building. The high ceilings, tall windows and burnt yellow walls lean into the city's architectural heritage, while the minimalist kitchen and sleek bathrooms belong well and truly in the 21st century. As well as this pleasant interior which is generous when it comes to space, the address also benefits from two terraces, one of which overlooks a peaceful garden.

There are plenty of other notable attractions in the local area, including Bargello National Museum and Accademia Gallery, which can both be reached in ten minutes on foot. You're well served by restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets, as well.

Imagine being a short stroll from the most special spots in Florence. That’s where you’ll be when you stay at this cosy apartment. Our favourite feature is the balcony, which offers a glimpse of the Palazzo Vecchio – it’s the perfect perch for planning your day. There’s a basic kitchen too (best for simple meals), but with so many restaurants nearby, we heartily recommend sampling the local cuisine. The downside? It’s a fourth-floor apartment without a lift, so you’ll have to climb quite a few stairs when you come and go. But name a landmark in Florence and you can probably walk to it from here – and that’s the thing we love most.
