Pad across terracotta-tiled floors, with wood beam ceilings above, and discover rooms filled with character and charm, where period features and modern touches sit effortlessly alongside one another. Nowhere is this better displayed than in the contemporary kitchen and adjoining dining room with its antique stove. Each of the four bedrooms blends rustic charm with supreme comfort, while the bathrooms are fitted out with beautiful tiles and gleaming marble for a touch of luxury.

Step outside and you'll discover a lush landscape of terraced gardens, an inviting pool and breathtaking views over the Tuscan terrain. Your hosts recommend making the trip to Forno La Chiocciola, where you can stock up on Florentine speciality flatbread, schiaccata, each morning. Afterwards, place yourself poolside and settle in for a day of sunbathing, interrupted only by refreshing dips in the water and trips to the kitchen to get some more of that delicious bread.

For the culture vultures, we'd suggest spending a day (at the very least) wandering the backstreets and alleyways of Florence. In our opinion, getting lost on a self-guided tour is the best way to get to know the artistic, architectural and cultural history of Tuscany.

The home itself is traditionally stone-built, with the wooden ceilings on show, an old hearth in the dining room and the farm’s well still on display. Sprawling grounds house a swimming pool with a view over the rolling hills beyond, and a rustic-style loggia for outdoor dining – perfect when you're serving something cooked with fresh vegetables straight from the home's veggie patch. The stone-built, wood-fired barbecue is ideal for summer evenings.

With traditional arched doorways, aged wooden beams, and beautiful antique furniture, there’s no doubt you’re in the romantic region of Tuscany. The indoor dining room with its oil paintings and long family-style table next to the old hearth could almost rival the outdoor dining under the vine-clad pergola. Aged to Perfection

Lying within the verdant hillsides just outside of Bologna, this stone and plaster villa might look rustic on the outside but don't be deceived – this is a home for those that appreciate the finer things in life.

You only have to look at the large and colourful garden to see what we mean. Sitting in the middle is a swimming pool sure to be appreciated on hot summer afternoons, neighboured by loungers and not just one, but two hot tubs.
