We can’t imagine a holiday more serene than a stay in a seaside villa. In the afternoons, find a cosy reading nook – perhaps in the plant-filled library where the sun streams through stained glass windows, or in the splendid living room where vintage furnishings, chandeliers, lush carpets lend a luxurious touch. Set within an estate in the Perguia, this villa is surrounded by green hills and oak forests, overlooking the Tiber valley. This home is the largest of four cottages, so there’s plenty of space for the whole family, as well as a shared swimming pool and lush gardens outside. Inside you’ll find roaring open fires, exposed beams and stonework which helps to fully immerse you in your surroundings. Location-wise, this is a great spot, being situated along the border between Tuscany and Umbria. We’d recommend renting a car and taking some day trips to see as much of the area as possible.

Life in Umbria

When it comes to Tuscan idylls, this home ticks all the boxes. Set amongst Cortana’s rolling green hills, this renovated 19th century house is full of quiet corners and scenic spots waiting to welcome you into a world of rest and relaxation. Rural romance at its most beautiful, its stone exterior and wooden shutters give way to an intimate, rustic interior full of original features, exposed beams, brick archways and terracotta tiled floors. Spend the afternoon taking dips in the pool’s cool waters then head to the viewing point at sunset to watch the sky turn amber and pink against the silhouetted hills. Enjoy a glass of wine here before fixing up a feast in the traditional kitchen, or head to the pergola for a barbecue under the stars.

Il Sogno

On Italy’s verdant Adriatic coast, this villa is set in the quiet countryside, a short drive from crystalline beaches. There are a handful of beaches to choose from; it’s a seven-minute drive to the long stretch of sand at Marcelli, or perhaps the craggy coves of Numana are more your style, also a seven-minute drive.

The villa itself sits in a small, private complex, with the use of a shared swimming pool for hot days and a private patio and shaded veranda. Inside, you’ve got the classic wooden ceilings of Italian farmhouses and a brick-style floor reminiscent of rustic country villas. A cosy wood-burner awaits in the living room for cooler evenings and bedrooms come with pretty countryside views out the window.

Surrounded by scenery straight out of an oil painting, it comes as no surprise that the variety of landscape in the Valdarno area is believed to have been portrayed by the great da Vinci himself. The so-called balze that characterise the region and numerous artworks, rural structures, and Romanesque churches provide the perfect backdrop to this stunning, Tuscan palace. By no means out of place amongst such grandeur and history, an aristocratic elegance floods this home. From its turreted bedrooms, wooden beam ceilings, and formal dining room, to its private drive and panoramic veranda that looks out onto twenty-hectares of land and bordering vineyards. Large groups and families will have no struggle for space here, with a main house and two annexes to spread out over. A games veranda also sports its own gym area with treadmill and stepper, whilst multiple porches and shaded lounge areas offer endless spots for relaxation and retreat. A short distance from the home lies a number of trails to explore, either by foot or mountain bike, which your host supplies. Dotted with sites of Roman and Etruscan heritage and a wealth of flora and fauna, there is beauty to behold as far as the eye can see.

Dating back to the 14th century, this farmhouse has an adjoining church which was once the parish of the estate, so it’s steeped in history. Inside, there are plenty of areas to relax and the elegant decor compliments the character features. Another total highlight is the beautiful vistas of the valley from the garden, terraces and the private heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi. You may feel like staying put in this magical home, but if you want to explore, then Perugia, with its medieval Priori Palace and Gothic cathedral is within driving distance.

Emerald Hideaway

This is not your typical Italian villa. Sure, on the outside it looks familiar with its rustic stone walls and quaint shutters.
